some pearlina thoughts because side order is Their dlc okay guys (tagged this as spoilers just in case). Specifically, about their love languages.

When I was first playing I noticed there were a lot of scenes where Marina praised or fawned over Pearl, but not so much from Pearl’s end. For a bit I thought this meant Pearl didn’t have the same feelings as Marina did, but I thought about it a little more and realized that no. She cares just as much as Marina does, just in a different way.

From all her lines in Side Order, I think Marina is very much a “words of affection” kinda gal—she communicates that she loves Pearl often by outright telling her. I imagine this also takes the form of like, love letters? Or songs. She seems like the type to be into that. Also physical touch, too, given the tackle-hug from OE.

Pearl, meanwhile—I think her love language is more “acts of service.” When we first meet her in the DLC, she’s made finding Marina her first priority—she immediately moves to try and protect her. You also see this when reaching the top of the Spire, where she’s hesitant to let Marina join the fight against Order. Protecting someone, I think, is kind of an act of service—it’s doing a favor for something else. So, I think Pearl often shows her love by taking care of Marina when she needs it, by giving her a massage or helping her out with household chores or what have you. It’s not necessarily as blatant as Marina’s love towards Pearl, but it’s love just the same.
