It needs to be said...
Tumblr media
Elves with distinct and diverse appearances are always going to be 100x better than the long-haired, white, skinny, androgynous look copy/pasted everywhere.

I genuinely do not believe anyone who calls this "ugly" because it's simply not. Everything from the costuming to the jewelry and casting is carefully thought out and executed perfectly.

a BIG part of the lore of Dungeon Meshi is how ageism is bad. About how the long lived races treat the young lived races like children and thus infantilize them and do not show them the respect and understanding they deserve simply because of their looks or short life spans. Whether its because to them they look like children in their eyes (like half foots and gnomes) or because the adult ages of the younger lived races are still in the child ages for the longer lived ones and so they get treated/viewed as children (we see otta receive comments about getting with minors when in reality she dated adult half foot women. so we already see this view towards things like this are a thing in the lore) We see this with chilchuck, senshi, and marcille where the two later view chilchuck as a child and treat him like one even though he is a full grown man who drinks (and is supposed to have grey hairs) all because he looks young and in the newest episode its revealed he is 29 which is still young children to the two of them. We see how perspectives that characters are children because of their age being a childs age for a different race as opposed to their race or because they look like children is a completely infantilizing and disrespectful behavior that causes so many problems in the long run. a theme that is completely flying over the average tumblr users head.
ive seen people get furious at other people because they sexualize chilchuck and even marcille
“oh they look like kids so dont do that you freak”
you absolute fool you missed a major theme of the fucking story. But because they look young suddenly they are children? have you paid no attention to the story? did you just ignore how the ageisim and weird mindset about ages like that causes so many issues that could easily have been avoided. and as for the age one i see people getting furious at others for being into and sexualizing izutsumi even though she is a year past adult in tall man years, but because she isnt in the adult age range in real life (wild your applying real life society standards to a fictional medieval fantasy world). even though even in lore she would be well an adult able to get married and everything tumblr really does have the media literacy of a toddler.

You know what?
The council never specified what they meant when they said Leola gave Humans Magic
They didn’t say she gave them Dark Magic, they just said Magic? Since season 3 it’s been implied that Aaravos gave Humans dark magic, whereas this season’s telling us it was Leola
What if Leola taught them to understand Primal Magic and the council jumped to humans doing dark magic and Xadia devided, but were too far away to see the details? To see that it was Aaravos pulling the strings and causing Chaos. To see that it wasn’t Leola giving them Magic, it was them punishing her that unleashed the chaos that Aaravos would cultivate?
Wouldn’t that be interesting?

Request- 'Modern au farmers market stall owner Halsin meeting dashing fashion model Astarion!'
I don't know who put him in a bad mood, maybe Cazador is a big name designer and Astarion is one of his models, but he's treated badly and wants to quit.
[ty to papa rye for the sound business model line, and general vibes!]

Man :( My uncle kinda bummed me out about my fantasy series.
He's like "well you need humans or elves or something that readers can already relate to" and I'm like
the 10+ species I made was for nothing? The species I made to replace the human population is just,,, irrelevant? Like damn :( I really broke my back making this fantasy realm for 8 years, and I have to change it entirely now because humans need to be there for 'relatability'?
My wee little heart is shattered,, Would literally anyone read a fantasy series that doesn't have humans or elves?

Danny 'always checks if the billionaire he's staying at got a basement/cave' fenton, peacefully eating at dinner.
Bruce speaks up, smiling light. "So, Danny. How are you liking your stay so far?"
Danny, meeting his eyes, answers easily. "Yeah, it's been alright."
The teen keeps staring at Bruce, leaning on his hand and not even trying to hide it.
"I'm sorry, but are we not gonna talk about the fact you're batman and have a massive cave underneath your home?"
Bruce chokes immediately, "Excuse me?" He looks rather baffled.
Danny isn't done yet, deciding that Damian is his next victim. "Or the fact that Ra's al ghul's grandson is next to me?'
Someone is coughing hard, another is hysterically laughing. He doesn't knows who.
"Or," he meets Jason's eye. "He apparently died and came back?"
Danny leans back into his chair, honestly confused.
"You all reek of death, even Mr. Alfred does!" The statement is followed by ridiculous gestures and Duke shrugs.
"You get used to it." He explains, chewing.
"Really? Kinda strange. If I hadn't researched batman before, I'd 100% think Bruce is a villain."
"Amen to that, Bruce being a secret villain seems more plausible than vigilante."
"Yeah!"
The rest of dinner and after was spent on all ridiculous points and theories towards the waynes, Duke and Danny got on like a house on fire.
To the dismay of both Dick and Bruce, for different reasons.
Dick for not being the favorite and Bruce for being found out so fucking fast, he still is recovering.
(He was only slightly glad Stephanie wasn't here during that reveal.)

me: “aww they’re so cute”
literally them:
“You Councillors just can’t seem to get enough of me,” Fintan muttered as Bronte approached him, rolling his eyes dramatically. “Tell me, is there a reason you couldn’t have come to me during the day? Or do you just enjoy inconveniencing me?”
“I assumed you’d be awake,” was all Bronte said.
“A risky assumption,” Fintan replied. “I was just about to head to bed. In fact, if this could wait until tomorrow, that would be great.”
Now it was Bronte’s turn to roll his eyes. “Must you make everything difficult?” he asked.
“It’s what I’m best at,” Fintan agreed.
-
Fintan wondered how he had ever gotten through working alongside Bronte without wrapping his hands around his throat.
-
“Perhaps,” Bronte mimicked through gritted teeth, “it would be best if we continued this conversation inside.”
Fintan clapped his hands together. “Ooh, are you going to torture me?” he asked. “How exciting. I’ve honestly gotten bored of this conversation already. I appreciate you skipping to the action.”
-
Fintan found himself wondering how much trouble he might get in if he attempted to strangle a Councillor.
-
“I’m not so stupid that I’ll threaten a Councillor to his face,” Fintan said. He twirled his finger in a circular motion. “Turn around, maybe then we’ll see.”
-
“Why not go ahead and ban every ability?” Fintan laughed, though it wasn’t funny in the slightest. “They all have the potential to be dangerous, after all. And hey, why not start with inflicting?”
He thought it was a clever comeback—until Bronte shot him a glare that was so vicious it made his knees weak.
-
“Because I know what it’s like—“
“Oh, don’t start with that,” Fintan spat. “You have no idea what it’s like. Any trouble you’ve ever gone through—any pain you’ve ever felt—I’ve experienced it ten times over. And no one’s ever come to my aid. But why should they? I’m a murderer, after all.”
The words couldn’t have been more true.
His eyes strayed to Bronte’s neck. He wondered what it might be like to feel his pulse beneath his fingers.
-
“I fucking hate you.”

Hello! I’ve seen your work over the years and every time I see it I always get a kick over it. I have a sociological question to ask you about centaurs. How do humans or other races fit into their lives? Both in a general sense of life, platonically, and romantically? Sorry if you’ve answered this before.
Thank you! It always blows my mind that I've been puttering away in my little corner of the internet with my horse people for this long!
I've covered a couple different specific situations in my cultures; re platonic and romantic? but for the most part is it boils down to that romantic would probably be rare and boil down to individual choices for how they approach it? But for platonic I have sort of covered a lot of platonic relationships just from the standpoint that basically all my centaur cultures have a deep societal tie to another race. At first it was a lot of convenience- a way to get around the difficulties of centaur bodies getting in the way of certain ways of life, but at this point I just do it cause it's lovely to me!
Like the merchants build their cities with the dwarves and they both benefit from the dwarves engineering and centaur's strength and mobility re:trade. The centaurs easily manage huge farms, trade networks, and logging infrastructure on their strength and speed but benefit from dwarves (and a small portion of other bipeds) being better set up for building (try to imagine a centaur making a roof, it's vexed me for a year now..) and generally engineering wizzes so it's a mutually beneficial relationship to entwine their cultures in the main Merchant City
Tumblr media
Obviously my Riders are wholly entwined with their biped family as I've talked extensively about in.. too many posts probably haha
Tumblr media
but then my very lightly covered Mountain folk have a different, almost religious relationship with the Forest Giants in which the relationship between their two cultures is separate other than the spiritual importance they hold with each other. The giants live approximately 300 years but are very slow, sedate creatures who prize a life of peace and telling stories over all else. So the centaurs almost view them as minor deities and the giants keep and love the stories their fiery little companions entrust to them.
Tumblr media
As you can tell, I really love building all these races and cultures and then mashing them together and see what comes out! I find it makes the world feel more real and lived in when I'm not only thinking about how a culture would work and operate, but also how they interact with their neighbors! What's their main export and how does that shape their life and relations?? These are the questions I get LOST in so thank you for asking :D

something has been bothering me ever since the discourse regarding marcille being conservative ir2 gender started rolling around. it doesn't bother me that it was said; it's obviously true based on the shapeshifters chapters. but people trace it back to her elvish background, and i think this is a sort of misunderstanding of elvish gender?
elves see themselves as androgynous and are interpreted as feminine by Everyone Else. there doesn't seem to be a very strict "feminine" or "masculine" presentation that elves must adhere to- mithrun is a manly ass elf. otta is a masc elf lady. lycion is a fem elf dude. the only thing i can imagine would possibly gender their presentation is their hair length (and boobs i guess? notably cithis and marcille are the only elves i can remember that really have a rack. anyways). this is a gender role in it of itself- androgyny without flexibility can and will be its own shackle. BUT this isn't the gender conformity that marcille reinforces!
marcille's childhood was incredibly lonely, and her closest friends for like 30 years were her parents. her parents, of whom were her tallman father and her elvish mother. her elvish mother who left elvish society to be a court mage for a tallman. her elvish mother who in ALL of her appearances is doing Housewife Things.
as an aside, don't you think it's interesting that falin considered accepting a proposal from someone she didn't even love because she feared it would be the only shot she had at getting married, implying that being married would make her more desirable? don't you think it's interesting how in laios' nightmare, his mother is pressuring him to have children? don't you think it's interesting how it's gender roles that are familiar to us are the gender roles that marcille seems to be trapped between?
marcille's problem is that she's applying that good ol' fashioned elvish superiority to tall-men gender roles.
