things I would do if you're a nsfw/kink creative now because I've been eerily prescient about every single wave:

a) get a personal site with your own domain you own. now. not a carrd or third party squarespace. not next week. now. get it online with ugly-ass html but get your links there.

b) if you have the money: join one or multiple of eff.org / cbldf.org / freespeechcoalition.com

partly because they're actively fighting this, partly because they have members-only Lawyers You Might Need. Hint. Hint. Canary.

c) Write Down Those Lawyer Contact Numbers in meatspace. phone number of a real human being especially on paper, On You.

I have been in contact with lawyers for a few months now as my doujin circle knows. this should be telling you Many Things.

d) www.ecrater.com is where i'm going to be tentatively testing a shop because i like the fact you can *not* have payment processes and order digital/physical products via purely mail order.

(... be prepared for this to fall through too in the next 1-6 months.)

e) friends and followers of nsfw artists who earn most of their income through it: now's the time to support them. they're going to need the grace and financial flexibility especially mental health wise. domain/shop transfer/refund/therapy bills ain't free.

check in on them, and often.

f) get a VPN, use it daily to acclimatize, have them on your hard drive, several VPN's preferable. this is for the age verification laws coming. Start reading up on secure, privacy-focused infrastructure (prioritize email > website > shop in that order).

eff.org has a *ton* of resources.

g) prepare for discord and tumblr to be hit in the next wave. have alternatives *and actively start using them* if they're mission critical platforms for you.

I've played with matrix though I quite fancy IRC. if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I say these things not to fearmonger but to give yourself the maximum amount of time to prepare. the pendulum *will* swing back. it did with the 80's moral panic. it will for this too.

you just have to outlast the bastards.

I just wanted to say that I really really adore seeing all the Dragon Age people coming back to stuff based on 16-11 yo games. I have ideas for at least three more short comics with Fenris and Hawke. Ideas for pins with them and the golden trio from DAO. Posters w Morrigan and Zev. And do I feel pressured into spitting them out asap?

No.

I know people have loved these games for 5000 years and been giving thumbsup and nice comments to my drawings for that long too (man, I really want to go back to draw some Morrigan fr, I love her, my fave lady, Kieran too.).

They can wait a few more days or weeks.

Not people saying “Fandom has always been like this” in that vent post I made. No. It hasn’t always been like this. Fandom has NEVER been like this until recently and if you were in fandom pre-tumblr purge, pre-twitter, pre-netflix boom, pre-tiktok….then you would fucking know it was nothing like this.

We still had the drive to create. We still sold prints and charms and made zines…but it was never like this.

The introduction of streaming, binge shows that drop all at once, tiktok and vine RIP i still love u vine but you were the beginning of a particularly ugly era) creating this bite sized, quick paced ‘content’ era of creation and it bled out into fucking everything else.

Fandoms didn’t die down when the show ended or the season was over. You didn’t mass unfollow artist, writers or moots just because they changed fandoms. There wasn’t this need to please the algorithm in order for your posts to get seen by people and enjoyed.

Fandoms used to last YEARS. Star Trek is literally the oldest running fandom out there and you got people in there that could care less about the new stuff and still have been happily prancing through their fucking fifty year old fandom today. Hell, even SPN after all it’s fuckups and shitshows has a dedicated fanbase STILL creating tons of art and fic.

There is no patience anymore. No calm feeling of taking in fandom and friends at a pace that which doesn’t make you stressed and is still fun.

Do I blame fandom for this? Of course not, but people are complacent with it and start changing their vocab to accommodate and end up making the situation so deep it cant be fixed.

We call Art & Fic Content now, completely stripping the value of what it is to a level of consumerism instead of personal entertainment & community bonding.

About the Fenhawke reading comic...

I'm absolutely blown away by your love (and the threats heheh).

Seriously.

I absolutely didn't expect this. While I've been a DA nerd for a decade, I thought that the fandom is old and here I thought it was mostly dead.

Thank you for proving me wrong.

I might draw more with them! ❤️

(I have a few ideas, and while I'm probably not going to indulge in a full Hawke lives AU, because I've read one that was better than anything I could ever think of myself -- yes I'm talking about By the Still Waters --, I might at least doodle Fenfen entering the Fade on his own, bc why not. Plus some nicer, fluffier and better things for them too. I said I have... a few ideas.)

And knights in general, because I've been on a knight kick for a while now.

After not being able to draw a single page of a comic for almost half a year, seeing this one receiving so much... love and reactions in general... is giving me a lot of energy and strength to keep going! I'm so happy my random comic made you feel things.❤️
