There's something hilarious about how so much subsequent media has positioned Vampires and Werewolves as, like, binary opposite entities, and then you read Dracula (1897) and realize that wolves are that guy's preferred solution to every problem. You'd say something to Dracula about "ah yes, werewolves, vampires' great eternal enemies," and he'd just be like "you mean my subcontractors?"

okay so rewatching hbomberguy's new video, James Somerton has:
Called ND Stevenson and Rebecca Sugar women so he can make a point about how queer women have it easier
stolen an Asian transmasc person's very personal essay on Mulan and queer Asian identity
stolen from Alexander Avila, the One somewhat well known transmasc video essayist
Lied about English courts letting Radclyffe Hall "live her happy life" because perceived-female queerness wasn't legally persecuted, when in actuality, they were charged with obscenity and had their work destroyed
clearly a man whose very normal and chill about transmascs and anyone he sees as a woman i think

“Forcemasc doesn’t work because masculinity isn’t considered degrading” hello???? Yeah maybe not on cis men. But growing up as a "girl" I was made very aware how masculinity for a woman was considered disgusting and humiliating.
Growing up, my performance of femininity determined my worth. I was valuable to others because I was feminine, and if I did anything unladylike or was caught with what people considered “masculine” traits I was shamed for it. Do you remember the stereotype of the “ugly feminazi”? How they would be portrayed as loud and aggressive, with short hair, large unkempt eyebrows, hairy legs and armpits, sometimes even facial hair, and other features considered "masculine" (broad shoulders, big jaw/chin, large nose, etc.), all to make them seem deeply unfuckable to a mostly male audience. And as we should well know by now, under patriarchy a woman's worth is measured by their fuckability. This is what I grew up being exposed to, what I was socially told not to be unless I wanted to be treated as subhuman.

ngl, I'm beginning to take issue with how in conversations about anti-intellectualism almost automatically, the face of girls and women will be slapped on the problem.

The aspec community REALLY needs to add intersecting identities to these analysis' instead of making general statements. How helpful is 'ace women are seen as pure because everyone thinks all women are asexual' when we look at the sexualisation of Black women and the Jezebel, the idea Black girls are 'fast' and the general sexualisation of women of colour e.g. spicy latina trope? Are we factoring in how the desexualization of women of colour e.g. the Mammy, the 'submissive' East Asian women trope, the virginity myth isn't acceptance of female asexuality? Does 'ace men are expected to be more sexual' factor in the sexualisation of Black men and other men of colour e.g. 'savage' Arab trope and the antiblack trope that they're inherently predatory? Or the desexualisation of East Asian men? How easily can we define the ace men v ace women experience at all if trans and non-binary aces are missing from most ace representation despite facing the brunt of anti ace discrimination? If we're solely defining these experiences by cis aces? How easily can aroallos 'just have sex' when you factor in the demonisation of gay sex, HIV/AIDS crisis and seraphobia and how this affects gay, lesbian, bi and pan aros? How easily can alloaces 'just partner up' when you factor in the ban of gay marriage that is still in many countries across the globe and the historical policing of 'homosexual behaviours' and this impacts gay, lesbian, bi and pan aces? And this isn't even getting into disability, religion etc. yet. When there's SO many factors that play into how an individual participates in sex and romance, or if they're even allowed to participate at all, how much can we clearly cut the aspec experience into alloace v aroace v aroallo. Or sex favourable v sex indifferent v sex repulsed. There's A LOT we can learn from each other.

one thing I like about tazmuir as an author is that at any given time she will be like "here is a character," and I will think "that's nice, but I don't care. please return me to my beautiful Gideon" and then she'll be like "no. look at this other character under a microscope. they are so fucked up and full of love in such specific ways. probably they are bad at sex also." and I make a shocked face and welcome them into the pantheon in my heart, still waiting to hear from my beautiful gideon, at which point tazmuir will show me another character. and then.

Okay I'm curious. Since the MCYT fan space has a tendency to unanimously agree on certain headcanons and make a lot of things widespread fanon, are there any popular headcanons, interpretations, or portrayals of characters that you really don't like? I genuinely wanna know. Any popular ships you dislike? Any creaturifications that you dislike? Or even just the way people talk about a character?

small reminder this pride season that in the natural world you will find examples of animals changing their sex [such as the peacocks, or those lions], or being multiple sexes [such as bilateral gynandromorphs], or similarly being what you want to call "naturally nonbinary" or "naturally trans".
it's fun to use these wonderful creatures as trans and nonbinary iconography, but please! don't forget your intersex siblings in your excitement. those are intersex animals, not trans or nonbinary
sincerely, a perisex bigender constantly bummed at the missed opportunity for cool pride art

TBH in the original Hellblazer it's not that all of John's friends died, lot of them did, for various reasons, (plus there's the Newcastle incident and all that personal trauma), but lot of the time the old friends John reconnects with have either abandoned their anarchist/leftist principles or revealed they never had any particularly solid politics and John is like 'wow this sucks we're all going to die' and then wanders around for a bit depressed until satan tries to kill him again
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most of new 52/DC stuff with John just refuses to interact with the political elements this way. so it is what it is and can't even really answer the question why john is depressed

Okay so a few things I think are worth discussing about Lucifer’s very noticeable non-presence in Mastermind, and how it is very much NOTED by the narrative:
For one, I think this pretty firmly sets Helluva Boss, certainly the show up to this point, as taking place BEFORE Hazbin Hotel, or at least the events of the first Season. As in, Lucifer is clearly still a hyper-depressed shut-in spending all day making rubber ducks.
Which brings us to the next point; concerning the hints we seem to be getting this episode that Satan is taking advantage of Lucifer’s absence to try and rule Hell in his stead.
The thing is, I’m pretty sure this is a plot point that will NOT be resolved in Helluva Boss, but rather in Hazbin Hotel. As in, the dealings and power-plays of the Seven Deadly Sins are well outside the scope of characters like Blitzo, Moxxie or even Stolas, yet are EXACTLY the sort of thing we could expect CHARLIE to be dealing with.
Basically, I think this stuff with Satan this episode, not to mention the brewing conflict between Asmodeus and Mammon that got setup in the midseason special, are essentially setting up plotlines for Hazbin’s future seasons.
As in, Season 2 or 3 of Hazbin will have Lucifer, and more notably Charlie, working to unite the seven rings of Hell, aka putting Lucifer’s old band/theater troop back together, aka Charlie having to deal with all her wacky, dysfunctional aunts and uncles.
In particular, I think it’s especially interesting to consider CHARLIE having to do all this, possibly due to Lucifer being otherwise occupied by goings-on in Pride (say, negotiating with Heaven).
For one, it gives us a potential ‘Charlie and Vaggie taking a road-trip through the seven rings’, but more notably I think it’s easy to imagine this providing Charlie with a whole arc about Charlie growing into a leader. Specifically, the future leader of Hell.
I mean we’re already throwing around ideas of Lucifer dropping in to smack Satan back into line, but what if instead it was CHARLIE? It makes perfect sense, right? Charlie is at first trying to play nice and get her aunts and uncles to help, and while Ozzie, Bee and maybe Belphagor might be sympathetic, Mammon, Leviathan and Satan are just as quick to shoo her off and ignore her.
Until Charlie has had enough of this shit, gets her next-level power-up and kick’s Uncle Satan’s ass.

I have to wonder if Will being into space themed sci-fi specifically is like. A weird side effect of being an Apollo child. He's the sun god and the first major NASA expedition was called Apollo and now sometimes his kids get Space as a special interest. Doctor Who, Dune, and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy are also probably up his alley.
I like this thought a LOT and am immediately incorporating it into my Will hcs.
