If you cared at all about truth, you'd have answers for at least some of these questions:
Who is the band?
Where and when did this happen?
What are the lyrics of the song playing?
Is Quds News Network a reptutable news agency?
Did QNN provide any further information on this story, or just this short clip and this unsubstantiated claim?
Has any reputable news source confirmed this story? Can you produce any independent confirmation of this claim?
For a moment, let's say the claim IS true that a Israeli band did this at a concert in Israel.
Does the band determine national policy?
Does this band speak for Israeli public opinion?
When I show you countless broadcasts from Palestinian television in which Hamas-run channels featuring speakers who live in Gaza promote repellent, racist, and homophobic ideas, will you deny that these broadcasts are representative of not only Gaza's elected government, but popular opinion in Gaza?
instagram
You're not immune to propoganda, chuckles - you're not even wary of it. You parrot whatever propoganda you come across which confirms your biases and never stop to think criticically.
This is why Hamas regards you as useful idiots, despite loathing western leftists.
Yes, Israel is the nation which the people of Gaza and the West Bank must make peace with because that's the only option. Israel's seven million Jews isn't going anywhere.
The PA and Hamas have turned down peace at every opportunity.
One doesn't make peace with one's friends, sweet pea - one makes peace with one's enemies. YES. They need to make peace with having a small nation of Jews in the homeland of the Jewish people.
Go study media literacy and develop some critical thinking skills, find yourself some verifiable sources, and learn something you don't get from propoganda.
Bonus, here's video of Hamas' Al-Qassam Brigades murdering civilians this week for criticizing them:
Because I don't want to be a sucker for propoganda, I checked the source. The video came from Hamas' own Gaza Now Telegram channel along with explicit text from Hamas bragging about it. I visited the channel myself and translated the Arabic text. Care to deny it? Care to question Hamas as a source...about themselves?
Gaza Now has 1.7 million followers on Telegram. In this video, more than a dozen Hamas operatives, many of them in uniform, open fire on three men lying on the ground.
The caption, in Arabic, says “The moment of punishing the agents of the Zionist occupation."
I guess this forces me to admit that I have I pay attention to Hamas propoganda, too.
The difference is that I pay attention to the propoganda Hamas puts out in Arabic and I believe them when they say what they are and what they believe.
Useful idiots like you will believe and parrot anything they tell you in English while the whole time telling Israelis who understand Arabic that they're racists for believing Hamas when Hamas clearly describes themselves as intent on murdering every Jew they can ans teaching children how glorious it is to die in the effort to murder a Jew.
Is this who I expect Israel to make peace with?
YES.
I want Israel to seek to make peace with people who want Jewish blood more than they want a state.
I want Israel to make peace with people who have repeatedly claimed that they love death more than the Jews love life.
I want Israel to make peace with people who hate Israel more than they love their children.
So, to your question: Is it Israel which I want Hamas to make peace with?
YES.
If you actually knew anything about the people of Gaza and cared about their future, you would want that too, and you might - if you stop parroting English-language propoganda and start thinking critically.
Thanks for the question. Feel free to ask any others.

The Orders
Wyatt and his boyfriend Tate were watching the 2020 election results on TV as they cuddled together on the couch. They both believed that the election would be a landslide for the Democrats but after they had dozed off they had heard a loud announcement from the news anchor waking them both up, “It’s official! Donald Trump will continue serving this country as President of the United States of America!”. A sense of dread came over the two, “How could this have happened?” Wyatt sorrowfully asked, Tate just sat there in silence and held Wyatt closer.
Over the next few months life stayed practically the same even though Trump was acting like a dictator, all news channels were banned minus FoxNews and other right wing stations, Trump forcibly created the 28th Amendment which repealed the 22nd Amendment making it so that term limits vanished, and he had somehow managed to make it so that one of his children would take the Presidency if he ever stepped down or died. One day as the boyfriends were making dinner together the TV, which was playing the news for some background noise, ran a segment that sent chills down their backs. “Trump just declared that homosexuality is now criminalized in the United States of America. All homosexuals must go to their nearest police station and turn themselves in, immediately”. Hearing this they knew that they had to flee the country as soon as they could. Running to the bedroom Wyatt began packing up a suitcase for both him and Tate. While his boyfriend was rushing to pack in the bedroom Tate heard a knock at the door, he looked through the peephole and saw police officers standing on the other side of the door. “wyatt! what do we do? there are police at our front door!” Tate whispered to Wyatt after he ran to the bedroom. “ummm uhhhh I dont know!” Wyatt said fearfully as he heard a louder and more aggressive knock at their door. The two boys decided to hide in their own apartment and wait until the police hopefully leave.
The knocking continued until eventually they heard an officer yell at the other police officers “Alright thats it!” Thinking this meant the coast was clear Tate got out from under the bed even though Wyatt begged him not to. “Babe it’s fine they are leaving, didn’t you hear them?” Tate said to calm down his worried boyfriend. Tate walked out of the bedroom and into the living room when suddenly the front door was kicked in, “OH SHIT” Tate yelled out. Tate tried to flee but he heard a voice from the front door yell “THERE’S ONE! GET HIM!”. Before Tate could take more than two steps, 3 police officers ran in and took him down to the ground. Two held down his arms flat on the ground and one officer who was especially buff held down Tates legs. Tate heard someone slowly stepping into the apartment. He watched as this big, masculine police officer, obviously the leader of this mission, stepped over Tate’s restrained body. “What do you wan-?” Tate was cut off as the officer began to monologue, “Know what I hate? I’ll tell you what I hate, I hate people who bring down this beautiful country we have. It’s a shame that you were able to be such a stain on this great nation for so long, but now that Trump has given the orders, you and your…friendsss” the officer made a disgusted face as he said that last part “Well you all won't be a problem anymore”. “FUCK YOU!” Tate proclaimed with fire in his eyes. “Hahah awwww it’s cute when they have this much fire in ‘em it makes it so much more fun to see it drainnnnnn out” The 3 other police officers all laughed in sync, the same monotone laugh. The officer standing over Tate looked annoyed “We’re still working out their old personalities, these ones were fixed early this morning as soon as we got the order. Whoever made them “better” didn’t do the procedure right so we had to wipe their minds and start fresh.” The officer rolled his eyes. Tate was puzzled and asked “What do you mean “fixed”?”. “Huhuhuh oh buddy you really don’t know do ya? Police and Military across the nation have been given these” The officer held up a baggie with a bunch of red pills that looked like M&M’s and shook it, “to get rid of the gayness plaguing this nation. Some of my officers gave them to your “friends” this morning but they came out…wrong” As he said that he placed his right palm down on one the officer’s head who was holding down Tate’s arm. “This dumbass and the idiot behind me used to be a gross married couple. Good thing my men got to them before they could indoctrinate some kid or something” Said the officer standing above Tate. “No…no what did you do to them?!” Tate cried, “Oh don’t worry my dumb little gay boy, you’ll see”
Wyatt, with his hands clasped around his mouth, watched as the officer above Tate pulled a little red pill out of the baggie he held up earlier. He squatted down and pulled apart Tate’s clenched mouth and forced him to swallow the red pill. Wyatt watched as his boyfriend began to seize on the floor as the 3 other officers continued to hold him down. Wyatt was forced to watch as his boyfriend’s hair became shorter, thinner, and lighter, his fluffy brown hair had just dissolved into the dirty blonde mop now on his head. Wyatt watched as his boyfriend’s face gained some softer features, a rounded nose, a soft round jaw, but his brow bone became more prominent and his lips grew thinner. His boyfriend stopped shaking and calmed down but was now making animalistic grunts every few seconds. It was obvious he was trying to resist whatever was going on in his head. The officer looked down at Tate and saw that no progress had been made past his head, “Tsk I hate having to do this, you should just give into the right side”. The officer untied his boot and took it off, he gave it a whiff and recoiled his head “Oooof huhuh you’re in for it now!” the officer swatted over Tate and placed the boot right over his nose and mouth. Wyatt heard his boyfriend’s animalistic grunts get louder as the boot approached but as soon as it covered his face the grunts died down, becoming sparser than they were before the boot was lowered. This is when the real changes happened, Tate’s arms began to bulk up and his already hairless armpits stayed that way but still being able to proudly pump out pungent B.O., his chest grew two soft pillows as his pecs exploded with muscle. Tate’s stomach stayed lean while gaining some muscle and his thighs began to get girthier and girthier. Tate began to grunt loudly as he tried to push off the mindless officers holding him down, the officer who had been in charge of all of this removed the shoe and mockingly said “Awww you were doing soooo good.” He grabbed another red pill and forced it down Tate’s throat.
Tate quieted down quickly as his body continued transforming. Tate felt his ass twitch and tingle when suddenly it ballooned up like a life raft and was now a nice soft cushion. His legs grew a nice layer of hair that spread to his newly minted ass cheeks. Lastly Tate’s feet began to expand, “Ooooo this is the best part!” the officer in charge proclaimed. Tate’s feet grew bigger and meatier, a soft wafting stink began to float off of them which quickly evolved into a rotten smell of pungent cheese. Wyatt watched as his sweet sensitive boyfriend was left a sweaty and smelly mess on the ground. The officer said to himself, “Time to clear out his block, gotta make sure we get all that homo stuff out”. The officer bent down and placed his hand into his own armpit and then proceeded to place his hand right under Tate’s car, “Yea…smell that manly stink. Thats what you smell like now. You are a stinky, straight jock; nothing more, nothing less.” Tate began to grunt even more animalistic now but it wasn’t him trying to escape…Tate was moaning… Tate was thrusting the air and flip flopping between moaning and grunting as the officer continued his speech about Tate’s new form. Tate kept going and going until a wet spot appeared in the sweatpants Tate was wearing.
He was gone, sweet, innocent Tate, the guy who would always go along with the love of his life, Wyatt, the guy who accepted everyone, the guy who was a proud gay guy, all of that was now just a damp stain in his sweatpants, right in the crotch region. The officers turned the TV station to an obscure channel no-one would flop to on their own, it was just a looping video of a hypnotic spiral. It taught important truths about how evil gay people are and how much better it is to be straight as an arrow, and now Tate’s mushy, brain-drained mind was being forced to watch it. The officers stayed in the apartment for an hour as Tate was indoctrinated into the Republican party, the entire time Wyatt kept hidden under the bed. Once the officers left, Wyatt emerged and saw Tate still staring at the spiral and drooling, the officers had left him to sit through the spiral even longer than he needed to. As drool dribbled down his chin, Wyatt couldn’t help but feel awful for the smelly himbo that used to be his boyfriend. He grabbed a tissue and went up to the brainless giant to wipe away the drool when suddenly Tate looked at his and said “What do you think YOU are doing GAY BOY?!” his breath reeked something awful and Wyatt tried to back away. “Nah come here bro!” Tate lifted his armpit and grabbed Wyatts head and forced him deep into his noxious B.O. factory…

"If you’ve watched Avatar the last Airbender, you’ve seen a good example of characters wearing a lot of reds and having reds in their decor/aesthetics without it resembling a tv the screen with the blue and green color channels taken out. I feel like I am going to be having random WoT Finale thoughts for the next six months, but one I especially want to hit up now:
The actual logistics of the Whitecloak attack on Falme, from the military tactics to the geo politics of it all are so perfectly on point that it's like something Jordan would have written himself.
In the books the Whitecloaks are on Tomon Head for unrelated reasons to the Seanchan (ones that would be hard to establish properly in a tv format where we don't have the time to follow Bornhold Sr for six odd scenes), so the show runners shifted it so that they are explicitly answering a call for aid from a foreign throne. The Whitecloaks are a autonomous military body beholden to no nation that operates with pseudo-legality in most places that are not under their influence, and the idea of expanding that influence to another nation is far to tempting to resist, especially when no other power is answering the Falme's call for aid, including the White Tower, who are the Whitecloak's primary rival. On principles it seems like they are stepping up to help a victimized nation that the 'witches' have abandoned, or even orchestrated the fall of.
And then on a practical level, the actual tactics they employ are fiendishly clever. Using incense burners to create a fog to hide their approach and blunt the effectiveness of the enemy channelers (who need to be able to see something to target their weaves). This also makes sense on a world building level- the Whitecloaks probably have a dozen tactics in their back pockets to deal with an outright war against the Aes Sedai if it ever breaks out. Then once the Whitecloaks close up to the walls, they send in their cavalry first, to overwhelm enemy defenses before they can get the gates shut, then send in the infantry to secure and pacify the remaining resistance not taken out by the shock charge. At this point the Seanchan have to focus their fighting to the streets of Falme, and the best way to do that is to gather their damane on the nearby tower and rain down artillery fire in an attempt to break the Whitecloaks into retreat- a brutal strategy likely to result in the deaths of their own troops and civilians, but necessary if they are going to have any hope of holding the city.
And then is where things get INSANE. See, conventional medieval military wisdom dictates that in a situation where the gates are breached already siege engines have no use. Their too clumsy, taking to much time to aim and fire to be much use in a melee brawl like this. Siege engines are useful for breaking fortifications, toppling walls, etc, so if used offensively almost always come out first. That means that no one is expecting them to roll out of that fog and hurl stones at the damane's position. In one strike Bornhold Senior decapitates the enemy's primary advantage over him and tilts the battle in his favor. (And even if the damane had managed to counter the strike, they would be weakened significantly, having to focus on blocking further attacks and counter attacking the siege engines- not easy with the fog- instead of keeping the fighting in the streets under control).
This might be one of those things that only I care about, but good employment of medieval military tactics combined with magical fantasy elements always makes me go

Ch.1: The Crossroads Of Destiny
"During times of war, there is no good or bad. Everyone is a victim and an abuser. But it's good to remember that the best thing a person can do is to be kind and show mercy to the enemy."
Everyone needs a pep talk once in a while. Even Optimus Prime.
After the death of Cliffjumper, there wasn't much morale going around in the base. Just a very uncomfortable quietness. It was like an unspeakable agreement between Team Prime to never really speak of their feelings. Whether it had become customary to lose the ones they cared about, they didn't see the point.
It's a war after all.
"It takes one act of kindness to change people's hearts and everyone has the ability to change. Together we can transform this hateful world into one of peace."
Nonetheless, he found comfort in the small things. He wasn't fond of human entertainment but he deemed it necessary to learn the current happenings of the world. That was the main reason he installed a TV in his private quarters. With all the main news channels. He wasn't surprised to see robberies, murders, abuse and the constant wars. He was too familiar with it all.
But one day as he passed by one of the channels he found something, or rather someone who caught his attention.
"I believe anyone can be a hero."
The reporter always had something good to say. Just like him, this individual has been through countless wars and witnessed many misfortunes. Optimus knew this because he would never miss the news just to watch this specific reporter. Or if he did, he made sure to record it so he could watch it later. This human had somehow become a small hope for him. Encouraging words when he needed it the most.
"But the world will always need a true leader in the darkest hour."
And Primus knows he needs it.
.
.
.
"Reporting to you live, (Reader), CNF News."
You should have stopped being so biased and giving your opinion on everything when your boss first told you to.
You hated watching your old reports but you needed to see what was so wrong with them for CNF to fire you. Now you can see why.
Hero? Hope? Peace? Love?
You were young and stupid to believe in all of that. You had grown now and after seeing so much malice in this world, your opinion had completely changed.
Now you were in Jasper City. Not so much of a city more like a town. With its small population, they had a local news station that was willing to give you a job.
"I have insiders in the government telling me that aliens are real! I even have footage and locations where they have appeared!"
That was one of the few things you told your boss before he fired you. Of course, it wasn't just that. Your ticket out was trying to report your findings live on national television, with video, graphics and all. Of course, the station cut you off the broadcast the moment you started to sound like crazy.
But it was enough to ban you from all major broadcasting companies. Not even print media would accept you. Not the New York Times, not The Wall Street Journal, not even lifestyle magazines wanted you.
You had so much information to share. Like how you were able to track down locations that lead to items of alien origin. You didn't know what the items were for but by investigating ancient legends, you assumed that they were important.
"So, (Y/N), what are you going to be reporting on?"
Your new boss came into your small office. Not really an office but rather a desk that you shared with the other ten people.
"I've been investigating and on a few forums, it says that this town has a government base not too far from here," you typed in your laptop and quickly flipped it to show your boss various pictures. "Apparently, the base is used for weaponry manufacturing and other .... Illicit activities."
"Look, when we hired you, we didn't need a crazy alien believer," he put a hand on his eyes and moved it down his face, clearly frustrated. "We just needed someone who met deadlines."
"But isn't our job as journalists to bring the truth to the people? Don't you want to know where your taxes are going?"
"Look, this is Jasper City, the most interesting thing that has ever happened here is a pig that gave birth to another pig with two heads," he pointed to the wall and you followed it with your eyes. It was indeed, a newspaper cut out of the birth of a mutated pig.
"There is a new coffee shop opening tomorrow, why don't you report on that instead?"
"But, Mr. Jones-"
"Coffee shop. Tomorrow," he said in a commanding tone. "And upload the package on the rundown before midnight."
.
.
.
You pulled out a lighter and started smoking a cigarette on the outside of a bar. You were planning on coming down from your car and drinking a beer. However, after careful consideration, you didn't want to deal with strangers. You didn't want any 'Are you new to town? Haven't seen you around."
You knew that would happen, after all, you came from a small city before moving to New York to be a reporter. Now you are back to a smaller town you weren't even familiar with.
You had gone to the coffee shop opening and turned in your report before the deadline.
From reporting on corruption, war and crimes ... you went to reporting ... whatever this was.
You looked outside your car and noticed a military vehicle parked in front of you. Two guys in uniform come out of it, stretching their arms and yawning.
"Do you think it's safe for us to let that box unguarded?"
"Yeah, it's just some papers. Nothing to worry about. We are close to base anyways, we deserve a beer for our hard work."
One of them carelessly put the truck's keys in his back pocket and as you expected, it fell to the ground.
"Old job, here I come."
You were in the back of the truck, looking at the documents that weren't too impressive. It was stuff you already knew. Alien artifacts were located in different parts of the world. Nothing new. Still, you decided to take pictures of it with your phone. You needed more time to read them, maybe they contained something you didn't know.
Nonetheless, you knew that wherever these documents were heading was going to be more interesting. So you decided to leave the truck keys in the front seat with the hope that the men wouldn't even question how they got there.
You were right. It was too easy to predict men.
You were heading to somewhere unknown, miles away from your new home and somehow it felt more liberating. Could you be killed by the government for doing this? Probably. But then again you've survived worse and you have nothing left to lose.
You hid and didn't make any sound. It's probably been around two hours of driving.
Everything was going smoothly.
Until the truck came to a complete stop. You almost hit your head as you lost balance.
Then, the vehicle moved uncontrollably as you heard the sound of a missile impacting it. You recognized the sound, you'd heard it before. Countless times while reporting the wars.
You did not only hit your head but other parts of your body as the truck rolled multiple times through the dry desert.
You were dizzy but still managed to hold onto the box. You saw the two soldiers come out of the truck, holding guns. Next, you heard shots.
You heard heavy steps. The type that made the ground tremble.
You came out of the truck, not caring anymore if the military men saw you. Curiosity was always your weakness and you needed to know what made a five-ton truck flip like a coin.
You held into the box like your life depended on it. Stepping into the fuel that was leaking from the truck. You saw the soldiers, helplessly shoot bullets to that thing.
A thing.
That's the best way you could describe it.
Made of metal. 20 ... No, 30 feet tall. Robot. Silver and grey. Red. Sharp ends. With missiles and guns at its disposal.
You stared at it with awe. It was good to know that you weren't crazy, that you were right. On the other hand, you don't know if you will live long enough to tell the world about it.
The enormous metal creature pointed at you with one of its missiles.
"You, give me that box."
It spoke.
You knew that aliens must have their ways of communication but speaking perfect English was something you didn't imagine.
"I won't ask again ... Give me that box."
He wanted the documents. You didn't know why nor wanted to find out. It didn't take much for you to realize that you indeed had important information. So much that an alien came looking for it. But your body didn't respond. It was your first time seeing something out of this world. In the dark night and the starry sky of Nevada, you suddenly felt so little. So insignificant and the realization made your body unable to move.
Then, there was light.
That of metal clashing. Of the little chemical reaction when two metals collide.
Another creature. Bigger and taller. Stronger. Red and blue and silver. Punching in the face the creature that was threatening you. They engaged in a battle too fierce to be in front of.
Your attention was drawn towards the men who lay on the floor unconscious. The soldiers must have been knocked out during the intrication. Dropping the box, you ran towards them as the two creatures fought against each other.
You thought your ears would explode from each impact, from each crash. You checked their pulses, they were breathing, but you knew you were too weak to move them, especially with uniforms on.
"Give me that box."
You ran towards the box, falling in the way as the ground trembled. You have to think fast. Two titanic robots, fighting. The first one spoke to you, demanding the box. The second one came in to fight.
Who was good? Who was bad? You weren't sure. You only knew one thing.
This box was important. It's content at least. You weren't a hero but you knew this was bigger than you. Maybe the information gave the robots a way to conquer the Earth. Regardless, you couldn't afford to think about it too much.
The box was made out of carton. For such an important thing, it sure wasn't guarded safely. But this was the United States Government, you didn't expect much. It was already covered with fuel from the leaking truck.
People say smoking cigs is bad. Well, at least you always carry a lighter with you.
The aliens keep fighting. You thought of them as aliens because you couldn't describe them better than that. They weren't green and skinny, nothing like you imagined. They were more like giant robot aliens. Aliens that had guns and that each bullet was so loud that you felt your entire body shake within.
You dropped the lighter on top of the box and it immediately caught on fire. You ran as fast as you could away from it, as you knew that the fuel would travel to its place of origin, the truck.
The truck explodes, and you use your body to cover the bodies of the still-unconscious men.
"NO!"
You hear one of the creatures scream. Both creatures had their attention on the truck on fire. However, the silver one took a step back and in a blink of an eye, he transformed into a jet. It flew away and it went away just as fast.
You couldn't even afford the time to be in shock.
The red and blue creature slowly came towards you. It kneels in front of you and its face is covered by what you consider to be a battle mask but somehow, it made it disappear. Its face moves closer and closer, observing you, moving in ways that are not human. Yet, you didn't feel threatened, it's as if it was amused with your presence.
Suddenly, you hear whimpering and grunts of pain. One of the soldiers was waking up.
"Did ... Did we win?"
.
.
.
"She wants to talk to you, Prime."
It wasn't like Optimus was waiting around because he didn't trust Agent Fowler's procedures. It was mostly because Ratchet was having difficulty opening up the groundbridge again.
"She's actually a very prestigious reporter ... before she started ranting about aliens, I mean she was right, but you know what I mean."
The whole area was guarded in a 100-meter diameter, not another human would enter without Fowler knowing. A few helicopters had arrived at the battle scene, fastly constructing tents. One is for the medics to treat the injured soldiers, and the other is for you, for a questionnaire. Everything was quickly contained.
"Why don't you take her for a ride and convince her to sign the confidentiality papers? ... I hate to use brute force on women."
He sees you walk out of the pre-made tent. You had a small blanket wrapped around your shoulders. Optimus sometimes forgets how delicate humans can be. The nights in the Nevada desert can be extremely cold and deadly for a small organism like you.
He looked at Fowler and the agent wasn't budging. He was waiting for him to take the next step.
Optimus vents heavily and transforms himself into his human-based design. A semi-truck with 18 wheels. He slowly drove towards you and when he got close enough, he opened the pilot door as an invitation to go inside.
You seemed hesitant but ultimately you walked towards him and got inside the truck. He closed the door for you and drove off into the distance.
.
.
.
You couldn't keep your hands to yourself. You touched the steering wheel, the windows, the seats, the radio buttons, the stick shift. Everything looked and felt like it belonged in a regular truck. Yet, it did not feel inanimate. It all feels somehow alive. You were quiet, literally, inside a robotic alien.
"I do not wish to be rude, but would you be kind enough to stop touching me?"
The alien spoke to you.
"Oh, forgive me, does it hurt?"
The truck stays quiet. But you can feel that the hot air coming out of his vents becomes hotter for a few seconds.
"My name is Optimus Prime from the Planet Cybertron. I am-"
"The leader of the Autobots? And you are in a war against the Decepticons?"
Silence. It was even comical to you. The bot was probably tired and the last thing he wanted to do was deal with a pesky human. Not like you cared much.
"Yes," he simply responds. From this point forward, you knew that this is how most of your conversations with him would go. Short and straight to the point. You'll easily find common ground with him.
"Fowler gave me the rundown of things."
"Then I must ask ... why are you hesitant to sign the confidentiality contract?"
You didn't know where he was taking you. You thought that he is probably driving for the sake of it. He is a truck, after all, he must enjoy the drive. But the night is dark and everything around you made it eery.
"I am a reporter ... If I sign that contract my career is over. Can't talk about the government ever again," you weren't completely lying. "And I just happen to love exposing corruption."
"I know."
"You know?"
"I've seen a few of your works,' Optimus said, making a small pause. His voice is very pleasant, nothing like you expected from a robotic alien. "You speak of truth."
"It's the only way you can fight a war without violence," you try to be vague without giving out too much information. You can't trust someone you just met, especially not someone from another planet.
"And maybe the only way to win one."
"What do you wish for? What would make you sign the contract?"
"The truth," you said. "I want the truth."
"I will sign the contract under one condition," talking was one of your strengths. You let out one important fact, leaving you vulnerable. It was a risk but you needed to create the illusion that there was trust.
"I have the information that was in the box, stored in my personal phone. If you let me accompany you in retrieving these ancient items, I will sign those contracts without complaining."
Suddenly, Optimus comes to a slow stop. The middle of nowhere in Nevada's desert. Just a couple of mountains, some big rocks, and cactus. And of course, a clear night sky.
You see that the bot had locked the doors. You mentally curse yourself. Did he have some type of power that could read through you? You should probably have done better research before lying.
"Why do you want to venture yourself in such matters?"
It was your time to shine.
"No matter how much I try, the truth is not enough to fix my world. At least it won't happen during my lifetime," you say words that your old self would say. Maybe a small and tiny part of you still believed in it.
"I heard your world is not even habitable because of the war. Even after that, the Autobots and the Decepticons won't stop fighting."
"I was just taught a quick rundown of everything so I am sure there's still much to learn but," you think carefully about what you are going to say. It's cheesy and cringe but you could only hope that this robotic alien is a fool and can't see your human nature of deceiving others.
"By learning and telling the truth, you can build the base of a new future for your planet. I can't fix my world but I want to help fix yours."
There was no reaction from him. You started to get worried as seconds turned into minutes. He wasn't stupid either. He was testing you to see if you would break or say something suspicious.
"I'll allow you to accompany us during our expeditions if there are no risks."
You were about to let out a heavy sigh of relief but you stopped yourself. For all he knows, there was nothing to worry about since you were not lying.
"But you will be under my surveillance," he adds as he starts to drive once again. "Starscream has seen your face, we can't afford for you to be alone for long periods of time."
That's going to make your work a bit more complicated but you had to do everything in your power to get your old life back.
"It's a deal then."
Optimus makes a sharp turn, instantly making you fall from your sit. He wasn't the most delicate. He probably didn't even measure his own strength.
"We'll start immediately."
"Immediately?" you rubbed your head, surprised he didn't even apologize. He probably doesn't care or Cybertronians have different manners. There's much to learn. "Well, as long as I am back for work on Monday it should be fine. But can we leave tomorrow morning? I want to go home and rest."
You felt the hot air from his vents coming out stronger than before for a few seconds. You assumed this was his way of sighing, with much disappointment.
He didn't say much after that and you just waited until he spoke to ask you for directions. .
.
.
You were renting a small home in the suburbs. You weren't sure if semi-trucks were allowed but one night should be fine. Prime wouldn't fit in your garage but the driveway gave him enough space.
Optimus opened his door for you and you jumped out. Stretching your legs felt nice, it was a bit chilly outside but nothing compared to the coldness of the desert. Turning to look at the Autobot, you wonder what you could say.
"Do you need anything?"
Did he drink water? Or oil? Did he need a bath? Did he even bathe?
"No."
His voice interrupted your thoughts.
"Alright then, if you need something, let me know," you said, trying your best to get some conversation going. "We are leaving as soon as the sun comes out."
He doesn't say a word. You didn't blame him, it was too much to expect him to trust you just after a couple of hours of knowing each other, and it's not like you could blame him. You wouldn't trust yourself either.
"Goodnight."
He doesn't reply.
.
.
.
"I'll return in two days. I am on a special mission to seek for a Cybertronian relic. I was assigned to work with a human. I am unsure if the subject can be trusted. I'll keep the human away from the base until I conclude their trustworthiness. I'll explain more later. Do not worry."
Arcee, Bulkhead and Bumblebee looked at the message on the data screen as Ratchet read Optimus's message out loud.
"Seems like he had an interesting patrol night," Arcee said as she looked at Optimus' vitals on the screen. They looked normal. "Shouldn't we go with him?"
"If Optimus needs backup, he will ask for it," Ratchet also keeps looking at Optimus' vital signs. There weren't any abnormalities, nothing that would require him to come to the base. "Besides it's not like we can go to him even if we wanted to. I am still trying to fix the groundbridge."
This wouldn't be the first time Optimus would be assigned a solo mission by Agent Fowler. Everyone knows that as the leader, Optimus has to be on constant missions, taking jobs that are too dangerous. Not because he didn't trust the abilities of his team-mates but because he didn't want to risk the spark of the others.
"It's better if we stay here in case we find an energon mine."
.
.
.
You did not dare to write your findings on the laptop. You weren't stupid. You knew very well that the wifi and your laptop must be rigged by the government by now. Watching and revising every search.
Instead, you opted for doing it the old way. Writing today's events on a notebook and little by little, fill it up with more information and most importantly, evidence.
You could already imagine it. Getting your job back. Being recognized as the best reporter of all time. The one who exposed the government and told the world about the existence of alien life. You will be set for life. You won't be a simple reporter anymore. No. Maybe, you'll become the CEO of CNF. Or even better, have your own news station.
That's if the government doesn't kill you before. You have to be extremely careful.
You look outside your window and see Optimus Prime. Agent Fowler didn't tell you much. Just that's he is a sentient being, with a strong sense of justice. Leader of the Autobots, a group of soldiers who fought against the Decepticons to gain control of their home planet.
Oh, how much you hated soldiers. Whether they were fighting for a good cause or not, it didn't matter to you. They all had blood on their hands. They all were guilty. Especially leaders who make others fight their useless war.
But your hatred won't get Optimus to trust you and you need to get as much information from him as possible.
You sigh. You were new here as well so you have a lot of boxes lying around. Nonetheless, you remember seeing an old tarpaulin in the garage, probably from the previous renter.
You look out the window again. It shouldn't hurt to try.
.
.
.
Optimus finished texting to Agent Fowler. A simple text that explained the current situation and his next steps.
It had been a long night. He thought his patrol was going to go as smoothly as others before. But nothing turns out as he expects it.
He still doesn't know how you convinced him to let you come. It's not like he doesn't know who you are. He has never missed one of your reports. Regardless of everything, all the war, the pain and suffering you've seen, you always ended things on a good note.
It was the kind of thing he needed.
Words he needed to hear.
He is always wary of people. Of anyone in particular that hasn't proven to be worthy of trust.
And you?
He just knew you for a couple of hours. He would be lying to himself if didn't admit his spark glowed for a small moment when he saw you.
Against the lack of his better judgment, he wanted to accept you immediately. To show you the base, for you to meet everyone and become that individual with unbreakable morals that keeps the team together.
A duty bestowed upon him ... that he so wanted to share with someone. He has been carrying it for so long, it has become too difficult to carry it by himself.
Can someone ... Can anyone ... Please, help him?
He feels something on the back of his fifth wheel and suspension.
Optimus doesn't respond, pretending to be in resting mode. However, he is always alert. No matter how tired, he tries to be awake in between sleep cycles in case something happens.
That's how he noticed you approaching him, carrying a large plastic cover bigger than you. Dragging it and carelessly putting it over him.
He is curious but doesn't say anything.
"There you go, big guy."
You patted your hands and you finished covering him up.
"I don't know if you get cold but you can't never be too sure."
He sees you walk away, shivering a little as you enter your home once again.
A part of him wanted to answer your question. But he is left without words. Would you even care to listen to him? Care enough to listen to his long explanation about Cybertronian biology?
He wants to say so much. The archivist in him has so much knowledge to share, yet no one would listen.
"I don't get cold. At least not on these temperatures."
That would be the easy answer. The not-so-boring one.
But if given the time and patience, he could tell you all about the biology of it and the reason for it. About how their bodies were perfectly made to the image of Primus.
And you?
He wonders about the things you could share with him. The things he could learn from you.
You know the land better than him and have experienced things in this world that he has yet to experience ... or maybe never will.
He is so lonely. That's the truth of it all. He craves for a connection.
But of course, he won't allow it. Not to himself. Not ever.
At least, under the starry night, covered by a dirty tarpaulin, he can pretend that his worries no longer exist. As his only worry is the ache of his spark wondering if the stranger in the house could become what he needs.

yandere bakugo! purge au? it’s time for the purge and its the perfect time to get his darling
I’ve been watching the Purge show with my little sister and we occasionally just text each other “The Giving is near, the Invisible awaits”. I love the purge movies so much, except the Forever Purge, I just didn’t like that one.
Title: 12 Hours
Pairings: Bakugou Katsuki x Reader
WARNINGS: Yandere themes, Bakugou’s scary lol
Summary: 12 hours when every crime is legal but with a twist- if you kidnap someone, they’re yours forever.
“You’re sure everything is locked down?” You asked, biting your lip nervously.
Your boyfriend smiled at you, “State of the art system. There’s nothing to worry about.”
You gave him a smile, but you followed it up with a sigh. You had a lot to worry about. You had gotten a note in the mail, two days before the purge, that read:
Dear (Y/n),
This is a notice that a Level 5 person(s) has been given permission to hold you indefinitely if you are captured during purge hours. We recommend staying inside and taking precautions to protect yourself.
Blessed be our New Founding Fathers,
NFFA Personnel.
Someone had requested permission to kidnap you forever, as long as they captured you on purge night. Who it was, you couldn’t even imagine.
Your house’s defense system was practically a joke. You didn’t have the money to get fancy equipment like everyone else had. That’s why your boyfriend, John, had offered to let you stay with him during purge night.
The thought had crossed your mind that John could be the crazy kidnapper, but you knew that he could have you any time he wanted to, so there wasn’t any point in kidnapping you.
John had an amazing security system. Not as good as, say, the NFFA members had, but still very good. You felt mostly safe to stay with him, but there was still an ounce of fear that wouldn’t go away.
You had looked up what “Level 5” meant and had discovered there were five levels of dangerous people classified for the purge. Level 1 was the lowest and, well, Level 5 was the most dangerous.
You had an extremely dangerous person after you. Who knew what they would do to you after kidnapping you? Maybe they would torture you all year long.
Your boyfriend turned on the TV and, a few moments later, the announcement played.
“This is not a test, this is your Emergency Broadcast System announcing the commencement of the annual purge sanctioned by the U.S. Government. Weapons of class four and lower have been authorized for use during the purge. All other weapons are restricted.
“Government officials of ranking 10 have been granted immunity and shall not be harmed. Commencing at the siren, any and all crime (including murder) will be legal for 12 continuous hours. Police, fire, and Emergency Medical services will be unavailable until tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. when the purge concludes.
“Blessed be our new founding fathers and America... A nation reborn. May God be with you all.”
Even through the metal shutters, you could hear the sirens start. Your breath hitched in your throat.
“We’re in for a quiet evening, don’t worry,” John said, putting a comforting arm around your shoulder, “Should we get the wine out?”
“Yes, please,” you said shakily.
Your boyfriend walked over to the cabinets and pulled out a bottle of wine and a couple cups. He poured a generous amount of liquid into both cups and handed you one. You drank all of it in one go.
John laughed and refilled your cup, “It’s only 12 hours. That’s it.”
“12 hours is a long time,” you muttered, “A lot can happen in half a day.”
Ten hours passed uneventfully, the two of you watching the only channel that wasn’t showing highlights of the purge from cameras set up around the country or talking about the history of purging.
On the eleventh hour, someone knocked on the door. You froze in your seat, breath hitching in your throat from horror. Your boyfriend stood up, “It’s okay, no one can get in. I’ll check the front door camera.”
He checked the camera and smiled, “See, they moved o-”
The power went out.
A beeping sound filled the house and then the scraping of metal as the shutters began to rise. The security system had been disabled and was reversing itself.
Even in the dim light, you could see that your boyfriend had gone pale, messing with the system frantically to try to reset it.
Finally, he turned to you and said, “Get in the closet. I’ve got a gun and I’ll deal with anyone that comes inside.”
You were crying at that point, but you managed to nod. You ran to the closet and hurriedly closed it behind you. You pulled some clothes down from the rack and tried to use them to cover yourself. There was no lock, so you were absolutely toast if anyone looked inside.
You could hear the door open loudly, as though someone had kicked it open. Your ears strained, listening for any hint that your boyfriend would be okay.
A gunshot rang through the house and you hoped it was from your boyfriend’s gun and not the intruder’s. A loud, husky laugh followed the sound, “Nice try, extra.”
You covered your mouth as the sound of an automatic gun’s famous ratatata followed. You knew John only had a pistol. No doubt your boyfriend had just died.
“Y/n”, I know you’re in here,” the voice said loudly, almost playfully, “Might as well come out now, so I don’t waste time trying to find you.”
You had less than an hour left. If you could just stall him until the 12 hours were up, maybe you’d make it out alive.
Your breath hitched again as he came into the bedroom and you closed your eyes.
“Not under the bed. What about the closet?” You could hear the smirk in the intruder’s voice.
The closet door flew open and the clothes were pulled off of you. You looked up helplessly at the wild-haired blonde with blood red eyes as he crouched in front of you. He took your wrist in a crushing grip, grinning at you with victory, and hauled you up off the floor.
“Cmon, we only have one hour to get you home. Had to deal with a lot of shit tonight. But I’m sure your boy toy’s car will help us out, won’t it, baby?”
You hadn’t made it the whole 12 hours.
Your life was in his hands.

K I threw together a translation for the new es21 anniversary chapter! There's probably mistakes and some awkward phrasing because I always end up prioritizing accuracy over flow rip. Hopefully the way I've formatted this isn't a total pain to read. I recommend looking at the page first, and then referring to the translation when you can't read something. I skipped any panels that don't have dialogue/text so just reading the translations might be confusing. Anyway it's under the cut!
(Lol sorry I didn't bother translating character blurbs on the right)
Page 1 Panel 1: Announcer: “Noooooww, there’s barely any time left on the clock! This final play will decide the outcome of the match!!” Panel 2: “One of these teams will command the University American Football World!! Panel 3: Which one will it be!? Panel 4: Two star players who once fought together now face off— Panel 5: in this Final Decisive Match”
Page 2-3 Panel 1: Eyeshield 21 aka: Kobayakawa Sena!! VS. The Commander from Hell: Hiruma Yoichi!! Panel 2: Set, Hut!!!
Cover page (4-5): Their First Collision!! Sena [Eyeshield 21] and Hiruma [the one who named him (literally the ‘parent’ who named him)]—
Page 6 Panel 1: [Some months earlier—] Panel 3: DEVILBAT GHOST!!
Page 7 Panel 1: TRIDENT TACKLE!!!
Page 8-9 Panel 1: The ball was fumbled!! Whichever team manages to claim it will win….!! Panel 2: [An American Football rule you can understand in 1 SECOND] Devilbat: YA—HA— It’s stupidly simple! Carry the ball to the enemy line and score (a touchdown)! DB jr.: You can get around 7 points! Panel 4: Monta: CATCH MAX!!! Panel 5: Suzuna: YA—!!! Panel 6: Announcer: The Kanto representatives for the Japanese National American Football University Championships is the team lead by Eyeshield 21 aka. Kobayakawa Sena— the Enma Fires…..!!!!
Page 10 Panel 1: Sakuraba: You really got revenge on us this year. It’s frustrating but it was our total defeat….! Panel 2: Sena: Though, one-on-one, for the most part I couldn’t really get past you (Shin-san) until the very end… Panel 4: Shin: undecipherable Panel 6: Ootawara: OOOOHHHHH MAKE SURE YOU HIT THEM HARD ENOUGH FOR THE BOTH OF US, KURITA—!! Panel 7: Takami: Finally, you’ve earned the right to challenge the undefeated champions Page 11 Panel 1 & 2: Takami: The championship finals against the team lead by Hiruma, the Saikyodai Wizards— at the Koushien Bowl….!!! Panel 3: Sena: Yes….!!
Page 12 Panel 4: Monta: Mukya! What the hell, we can’t get into the club room! Riku: Looks like we have a few visitors— Panel 5: Crowd: The United States President’s son?? Even SP (I believe this is a tv channel) is here… Page 13 Panel 3: Sena: T-this is way too crazy… Kurita: To clear away people like this…..
Page 14 Panel…2?: Hiruma: Kekekekeke, you’re late fucking Fatty and fucking Shrimps Panel 3: Kurita: HIRUMA! Sena: —san!! Monta: And that guy’s from the American Match, the ultimate boss… wait actually, he’s a NFL player now! Page 15 Panel 1: It’s the President’s Junior, Mr. Don….!! Panel 2: Don: An ordinary person goes to a foreign country to run rampant for their own entertainment. A champion (or king lol) goes to a foreign country to express his respect. Panel 3: Don: In this country, it seems excessive meddling from pros in the affairs of amateurs isn’t appreciated, so I’ll get straight to the heart of the matter. Panel 4: Don: Together we will fight and acquire the throne. I’ve come to welcome/receive one hero. Panel 6: Kurita: ?? Monta: What does that mean? Sena: Isn’t this excessive meddling…..
Page 16 Panel 1: Crack! Panel 2: Sena: ….?? Inside my shoulder pad… Panel 3: Sena: What is this, it’s tiny… A white chip? Monta: Ooh, it’s in our shoulder pads too!! Riku: Since when… Panel 4: Hiruma: It’s called an RFID (radio frequency identification (apparently lol)) chip. When you have this on— Panel 5: Glasses: The current location of each player can be determined and measured by inches. Stats like speed and acceleration, it can analyze all data in real time. Enma Babes (presumably): A SCI-FI MACHINE LIKE THAT EXISTS!? Page 17 Panel 1: Don: There’s nothing Sci-Fi about it. Within the NFL world, all players have been using this for a number of years now. Sena & Monta: REALLY!!? Hiruma: They even have them inside the balls. Since you can measure the rotations that way Devibat: It’s true!! DB jr.: The actual pro sports world sure is turning into something amazing! Panel 2: Riku: So, this data analysis chip… Panel 3: Riku: Why are they in our protective equipment…?? Sena: I mean, there’s only one person in this world who would be devilish enough to quietly do something like that… Panel 4: Glasses: With this hoard of collected data, and by using the help of something like Google Brain, we can rely on machine learning to— Sena: Goo… what? Machine…?? Panel 5: Don: How sad~ Oohh, AI, AI! Civilization has simply taken the human privilege of ‘thinking’, and given it up to machines.
Page 18 Panel 1: Don: Most of all, humanity’s been dulled by favoritism, politics and social correctness. Well, compared to a slow/primitive ruler, it’s (AI) infinitely more reliable. Panel 2: [For our team to reach victory, what kind of player is indispensable? The answer provided by the AI was—] Panel 3: A running back with the speed of light! Or— A phantasmagoric (look it up) quarterback! Panel 5: Glasses: International Player Pass Way Program. In short, there is one slot available for a foreign student trainee as the Japanese representative. Don: Which means that we would be receiving you into our team. Page 19 Panel 1: Kobayakawa Sena, Hiruma Yoichi: between the two of you, only one—
Page 20 Panel 3: (I believe this is some sort of form that Sena filled out about what he wants to pursue after graduation— he says after graduation he wants to become a pro American Football athlete) Panel 4: Hiruma: With my physical abilities, I won’t be able to get into the NFL the usual way. Panel 5: Hiruma: Obviously, I’ll struggle for the top even if it kills me. That’s the thing that makes it fun….! Page 21 Panel 1: Don: When I consulted the man at the top, Panther, about which one to pick— he gave me a truly straightforward answer. Panel 2: Panther: Hm? Well they’re going to have a confrontation directly in the Koshien Bowl, aren’t they? Panel 3: Panther: Sena VS. Hiruma!! We’ll just take whoever wins. Because, isn’t that American Football…!!
Page 22 Panel 1: Sena: …… this contest against Hiruma-san, I’m glad that it’s an American football match. Panel 2: Sena: If it wasn’t, there’s no way I could win against Hiruma-san, you’d bring out your blackmail book and in an instant…. Hiruma: Kekeke, seems like you understand the situation reeeeal well Panel 3: Sena: I mean, whether it’s Don-san’s AI verdict or the pro tryouts— if you put your mind to it, you could use your blackmail book to get whatever you wanted. But, Hiruma-san, when it comes to American football, you’ve always…. you’ve always— Panel 5: Toss~ Panel 6: Hiruma: Well, since I’m going to win against you and become a top pro, I don’t need this thing. Page 23 Panel 5: Sena: But, the one who’ll win is me
Page 24 Sena: I’ll go to defeat you with all my strength. So, Hiruma-san, you also— Hiruma: Kekeke, naturally Page 25 Panel 1: HANSHIN KOSHIEN STADIUM Panel 3: Kurita: Truthfully, I want to root for both of their dreams— For Sena-kun, and for Hiruma. But if I really can’t choose both—
Page 26-27 Panel 1: Kurita: FUNNURABAAA!!!!! Panel 2: Kurita: For the sake of my team, and for Sena-kun’s sake, I’ll defeat Hiruma…..!!! Panel 3: Announcer: Koshien Bowl, the final, decisive match! Against the Saikyodai Wizards, made up of all star members throughout the country— Panel 4: Announcer: Somehow!! The Enma Fires are just slightly in the lead!! Panel 5: Gaou: Fuh… Half of American football is decided by the power of the line. This is the unmatched power of Kurita when he has something to protect….!!!
Page 28 Panel 1: Announcer: Noooooww, there’s barely any time left on the clock! This final play will decide the outcome of the match!! Panel 2: Announcer: Two star players who once fought together now face off— Panel 3: Announcer: In this Final Decisive Match!! Panel 4: Announcer: Eyeshield 21 aka. Kobayakawa Sena!! Vs. The Commander from Hell, Hiruma Yoichi!! Page 29 Panel 1: Hiruma: KILL! KILL! Panel 2: Suzuna: K.I.L.L…..to kill? What’s it mean? Doburoku: In American football, it’s a sign that’s given by the pitcher. It means to completely kill the strategy that had been agreed upon. To put it simply, it’s a signal to hurriedly reset the strategy of the play. Panel 3: Mizumachi: After seeing our defense formation, looks like they want to change things up! Panel 4: Sena: Hiruma-san’s— that ever-changing adaptability’s strength—
Page 30 Panel 1: Hiruma: Kill— Panel 4: Unsui: NO!! THERE HASN’T BEEN ANY CHANGE IN HIS PLAN!! Page 31 Panel 1: Hiruma (I think): This was just a snap counter from the get go— A signal to start the play after the 4th KILL…!!! Panel 2: Enma player: Shit, even though we know what kind of guy he is! Enma player 2: He’s gonna throw a pass— Enma player 3: No, don’t let Hiruma trick you! He’s not throwing— he’s still holding it!! Panel 3: This is a run….!! Panel 5: Shit, that’s wrong, it’s a pass after all….!!!
Page 32 TOUCHDOOOOWN!!! Page 33 Panel 1: Hiruma: YA— HA—!!! Panel 2: Announcer: The final decisive battle was completely controlled by the sorcerer of the field-- Hiruma Yoichi! (there's actually a word in this line I don't understand lol, but this should be the general gist) Panel 3: Announcer: In a sudden turnabout victory, the Saikyodai Wizards win the championship—
Page 34 Panel 1: Announcer: —No, the remaining time on the clock is 1 second!! Panel 2: Hiruma: !! Taka: That was my bad. Panel 3: Taka: On the ground was Sena-kun with his light speed, and in the air Monta was closing in. I had no choice but to catch the ball one second earlier than planned. Panel 5: Unsui (presumably): — 1 second left. Whether we laugh or cry about it, this will be the final play— Page 35 Panel 1: Sena: These sort of seriously close calls… I dunno if you’d call it deja vu or— Panel 2: Monta: That’s right! This is the kind of cliff’s edge that we’ve run along a bunch of times! Panel 3: Agon: Aaaahhh? Ain’t this match already certain victory— Panel 4: Agon: —If we weren’t up against the tiny trash brigade, that is. Hiruma: Kekeke yo~~~ You also know what’s up huh, fucking dreads. Panel 6: Yamato: That’s right, all of us should know by now well enough that it hurts. Panel 7: Yamato: That there are demon-like men out there whose power explodes during dire straits like this.
Page 36 Panel 1: That there was once a miraculous team called the Devilbats— Panel 2: Hiruma: The last play will be Eyeshield 21! They’ll 100,000,000,000% comes at us with Sena’s run!! Anything else is a ruse, completely ignore it, don’t even think 1mm that it’ll be anything else!! Panel 3: Unsui: There’s only one way to go: Sena’s run. All of us will open a path!! Page 37 Panel 1 & 2: Sena’s Run, Complete Specialized All Star Team!! VS. Anti-Sena formation, Complete Specialized All Star Team!!
Page 38: — DON! Page 39 Panel 1: Announcer: Remaining time: 0 seconds! Panel 2: Announcer: With this last play, it’s game set! Panel 4: Yamabushi: Rodio Drive!! Are they coming with Riku!? Taka: No— Panel 6: Riku: Sena…!!

PLEASE HELP US BANGLADESHI STUDENTS OUR GOVERNMENT IS BLOCKING OUR INTERNET
From last 18 July 9 pm to today 24 July our government had blocked the whole country's internet connection so that we cannot contact to the outside world to create awareness
All these days many students were killed. The government had ordered police to arrest those so called terrorist people who are actually students who were protesting! The police had capture hundreds of innocent students giving the excuse that they were doing terrorist activities and we're a part of opposing political party. Like be for real! You are telling me those hundreds of people are terrorists?!! If there are so many terrorists in our country how aren't we perished yet?!
Our government is also calling Bangladeshis who live outside our country anti national people for speaking out for us and asking the united nations for help.
Our tv news channels are all filtered media!! None of it show how the police and military are open firing students! They say the foreign news channels who are talking about our government Killing us are spreading false news!!!
Our government literally launched military tanks on our roads, they are also using helicopters to throw tearsol gas bombs on the protesters and I literally saw it with my own two eyes!!! Those helicopters literally launched them on the road In front of my house!!!
At first our government kills us then treats us like terrorists then cuts off our internet connection so we become unable to communicate with the outside world!!
Like what the fuck is literally happening?!! Isn't it a violation of human rights?!!
My friend's brother went to protest on 18 July night time and the police literally started to open fire at the protestors!!! Many got injured and there was even a dead body on the ground but no one could help it or take a picture or video because the police were firing everyone!!
Thankfully my friend's brother survived but he was injured too.
There's also news about how police are killing students and taking their dead bodies to dispose of somewhere far away
Hundreds of students are diying but our media isn't showing anything! They are highly downplaying the dead it's not 1 or 2 hundred more students had died!!
Our country is currently blocking all the social medias and I'm using vpn to get access to tumblir
I don't know when the internet would be cut off again. I might even die if I go to any protest so please create awareness by either reblogging this post or using the hastag savebangladeshistudents!
Here I have some videos for the proof of my claims!
SEE HOW THE POLICE ARE OPEN FIRING
Please create awareness! Don't ignore us!

From Snow to Sabras, My Journey
I asked on Twitter what subjects folks would like me to write about and most people said they’d like to hear about my experience of moving from the Soviet Union to Israel. I was barely more than a toddler when it happened, yet I have some vivid memories and it will be my pleasure to share them with you.
Note that this is my individual, highly subjective, child’s impression of international politics. Please don’t cite me in your research papers.
I was born in Moscow. I mostly have fond memories from the majestic, snowy city and our cozy little dacha, where we picked mushrooms in the forest, spent time by the cracking fire, and always made sure not to anger our domovoi. All my toys were hefty combat vehicles made from the same metal they made tanks from, but I liked them.
My only bad memory is getting nightmares from seeing Lenin’s pickled cadaver in the Kremlin. I liked the rest of it though. I especially loved the marching troops and the cathedral that looked like a giant child’s toy.
I’ve always known that I was a different nationality from most people in the city, and often asked my mother about random people, “Is he Jewish? Is she Jewish? Is this cat Jewish?” but never felt any hostility towards them or from them.
Yours truly in Moscow, 1989
I was a few months shy of five when we made Aliyah in 1989. On the way, I heard someone in the airport (in Budapest, not Moscow) saying there was a whole TV channel just for kids in Israel. It sounded like magic to me. I talked about it with my parents, wondering if such a thing was possible, and they both agreed I've probably misheard this person or that perhaps someone was fantasizing.
All three of us were totally amazed when we arrived in Israel and it turned out to be true.
It's a small thing, but it's the best illustration of what it's like to move from a socialist society to a free society. What struck us the most was the bounty, the variety, the diversity, the fun, offered by daily life in Israel. It was as if life suddenly went from monochrome to color.
I don't recall thinking at any point that I was more or less free than before, and I don't recall my parents talking about freedom. The word "freedom" was mostly something we heard from badass American action heroes as they rained bullets on bad guys who were against freedom.
Don't get me wrong. This wasn't a passage from heaven to hell.
Yours truly in Israel, 1993
We still had to deal with prejudice, although of a different kind and not institutional. In the early 90s, Israel was plagued with hostility towards Russian-speakers, especially from North African Jews. I got into many fights because of this. In fact, my earliest memory from kindergarten was beating a boy with a pipe because he and his friends accosted me for my accent. Later, I was kicked out of school for throwing chairs out of a window at some kids below for much the same reason. I regret nothing. Fun fact about my family: every single one of us was kicked out of school at some point in life. I’d be a bad Kurlianchik if I failed to pass this rite.
Nevertheless, there was something magical about leaving the Soviet Union and coming to Israel. It was a shift from mediocrity and grimness to a life of plenty and variety. Highly recommended.

breezy skies, and the sound of a whistle
chapter one; astro-turf ˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ directory; breezy skies, and the sound of a whistle masterlist | masterlist
༊*·˚ word count; 3.1k
stadiums were so big, they always felt so surreal to be in, especially when empty. you could only imagine what it looks like, full of enthusiastic supporters of the teams in respective team colors, akin to two fires fighting to win over the other; support gives morale, after all.
your childhood dream was to become a soccer player, which never quite worked out. you were always too busy with school work to actually sign up to any clubs outside of in-school teams, and joining the school team just simply wasn't worth it. you had quit by your second year in, because the team was so toxic and the games were unfair.
now it wasn't as if you gave up on that prospect. if you couldn't play as the one kicking the ball, what's the next best thing?
deciding how the ball gets kicked.
it could've been the leader-like habits that people were quick to point out, or the not-so-obvious desire to tell people what to do, but you found yourself in love with this role. it had its pros and cons, but overall, you wouldn't change it for anything. you were committed to making the pitch a fair place for all, where it is only truly a fight of skill and talent.
and so was gojo satoru.
he was a household name in japan; from local talent to nationwide prodigy, he had been winning matches and tournaments for his teams since he could say 'football'. this was always his calling, and he knew that, having been a part of one of the most well-known families in the soccer world.
he currently plays for the tokyo-jujutsu team, where he has been for the past four years. this is where he believes he will stay for the remainder of his career, and more importantly, the team that he will bring along to win international tournaments such as the world cup.
but before any of this happens, he must first get to onto the japanese team, along with as many of his team members as possible, which was quite unrealistic in the current situation that they were in - in recent times, there have been increasing amounts of biased referees or those who didn't have a knack for good decision making, which meant he spent more time arguing with them than he had possession of the ball. thankfully, both shoko and geto, his teammates, have been able to talk the referees out of yellow cards most of the time.
today was no different than it usually was. you had been scheduled to referee your first mainstream match that was going to be on national tv-channels for all to watch. previously, you had only done small gigs for smaller, town-vs-town matches, which still paid enough to get by. a recruiter's son happened to be watching one of these matches and invited you to become the mediator for a, 'big match'. you had only found out on the day that it would be for a game between tokyo-jujutsu high and another large team in the area.
no big deal, right? just the team that you'd idolised in high school, with some players you grew up wishing you could play along with. jokes aside, you never let personal affairs affect the outcome of your judgement, and you always upheld that belief.
you check your watch, and you have about an hour until fans will start piling into the stadium, and thus about two until all players walk out onto the pitch. you had your own changing room with other refereeing assistants, and you were instructed to make your way there after signing in; only, you had no idea where they were. you had never been here before, how would you know? all the doors looked the same, and the only signage was a 'changing rooms' which led you to a longer corridor of doors that only had the same words plastered onto them.
"well, i'm off to a lovely start." you whisper to yourself. sighing, you use the amazing referee skills you possess to select the best room to try, praying that it would be an empty room even if it wasn't the right one.
with one hand on the blue door, you gently pushed it aside, hearing laughter and what seemed like an argument between two people. you had opened the door anyways, so there was no point in trying to run. if it was the wrong room, no hurt to ask whoever was in there, right?
as you stepped in, the room went silent.
"who are you?" you definitely knew that voice; gojo satoru. you couldn't believe you had just walked into the tokyo-jujutsu changing rooms, and you could swear you saw the bottom of his shirtless torso.
"oh my god. i am so sorry, ill just leave-" you quickly turned around and scurried out of the room and caught your breath outside. out of all the doors you could've chosen, your intuition led you to THIS one?
just then, the man himself emerges from the room, adjusting the shirt that he had just put on.
"you're not some kind of stalker right? how'd you even get in?" he walks over and towers over you, despite being considered pretty tall to the general public.
"no, i'm not. i'm the referee for the game," you sigh, looking at the ground. it was simply too awkward to look him in the face after the previous events that just occured. "i'm lost. i'm sorry, but do you happen to know which of the changing rooms are mine?"
he lets out a chuckle and you look up at him to see what was so funny. he truly did look way more majestic than he did in the photos online; nobody could deny those blue eyes of their true grace and beauty. his looks aside, gojo's face turns into a mocking smirk, and nods whilst holding in a laugh. "yeah, sure, come along."
it was a silent and long walk that was actually only 20 seconds long. the air was awkward. you could feel his judgemental stare from miles away, which wasn't helping the nervousness you had already.
before he drops you off at the door, he stops and turns to you, and the air around you suddenly feels more serious than before.
"you better not disappoint me."
no biggie. the player you just walked in on, shirtless, whom you've always dreamed of meeting, just told you not to disappoint him. easy stuff, right?
⋆ ˚。⋆୨♡୧⋆ ˚。⋆
5:30pm. match time.
you'd changed into your kit shortly after the encounter, and had some small conversations with the other match officials inside the changing room. other than that, you felt pumped up and excited. this was your first big game after all! you weren't about to let any player ruin your first one, not even gojo satoru.
you were lined up in between both teams, with you at the front. you could feel the anxiousness between the players, and the roaring crowds outside. then, the double doors in front of you opened, and the intense cheers and stadium lights hit you immediately, and it was time for you to walk.
exhilarating was an understatement; you could revel in this kind of environment for the rest of your life. you saw the players talking with their coaches and any last minute warm-ups that they wished to do. and there was gojo. he was talking with his coach, masamichi yaga, who seemed to be giving him some sort of speech, though it seemed more of a, 'do this and i'll kill you' kind of talk. laughing to yourself, you closed your eyes and felt the light breeze that blew through the stadium, waiting for the players to get into their respective positions.
thus, the starting players were lined up. the tokyo-jujutsu team were starting with the ball, so you stood at the half-line and waited for the timer to start. on your count, you blew the whistle as hard as you could, and kick-off began.
the passion and skill of the players were even more undeniable in person. especially gojo, the way he was able to weave in and out of players so effortlessly and work so well with his teammates was otherworldly. you ran around the pitch, with your best attempts to not hinder the players, blowing the whistle wherever needed.
the first incident that happened during this match, was a foul, close to the center of the pitch. it was still nil-nil (zero-zero) between the two teams, and one of the players on the opposing team had purposely grabbed one of the tokyo-jujutsu player's shirts to prevent chase with the ball.
clearly pissed, you saw the white haired man rush up to you, arms in the air, shouting in a barely audible manner.
"did you see that?? that's surely a foul. yellow card even," he complained, his eyes staring daggers at the perpetrator in front of him. you sigh again and look up at him.
"yes, i did see what happened. i'm the referee, and if you'd let me do my job, i will get to it," you respond, placing your hand on his body to make him back off from the confrontation, or you were sure that someone would have started throwing punches.
reluctantly, gojo does back off and so does the other guy. he then switches his attention to you, staring at you whilst he begins to scan you, as if he was judging you right on the dot. it was a little intimidating, but one person's stare was nothing compared to the whole stadium waiting on your judgement.
you blew the whistle to signify your decision.
"this is your warning - free kick to the tokyo-jujutsu team. if i catch you doing this again, it's a yellow card. understood?" you advise the other player, ensuring to give him a stern look that meant business (though you were never sure how much it ever worked or got the point across).
the match then goes back into play, and the crowd returns to chanting, whilst the players run around trying to gain possession of the ball.
the second incident happened just before tokyo-jujutsu's first goal, where you had awarded a penalty kick as a foul had taken place inside the penalty box. a different player this time, attempted at a slide tackle to defend their goal, which miserably failed and she ended up kicking one of tokyo-jujutsu's members, causing them to wail in pain on the floor.
even though this was clearly just an exaggeration of what happened, it was bound to hurt with the studs on the bottom of the players' shoes, and it was done inside the penalty box. you had thought to check the camera recordings to confirm that it was definitely inside the area, and you blew your whistle a second time to make your second verdict.
you held up a yellow card to the player who attempted the tackle, which caused the fans to erupt in 'boos' from the stands, and the players themselves look even more pissed than they had been previously. you were in for some inevitable arguments.
you then blew your whistle again.
"penalty goes to tokyo-jujutsu," and you order the players to gather round the goal area, and decide who will be taking the penalty shot.
this pissed the opposing team off to the point that one of them blew up. he came storming towards you, with a clear intention to try and reverse your decision through intimidation. you attempted to ignore the player and walk away, but that only made him rush towards you and stop you in your tracks.
"the fuck do you mean penalty?? that clearly wasn't a foul, it was an accident. do you even know how to ref?" he exclaims, hands waving about, trying to prove his point. you turn to him and give him a glare; a warning that if he continues, he will be punished for doing so.
that didn't stop him. seeing that you had no intention of budging, he was riled up even more.
"you're full of shit. you're so shitty, how could you call that a penalty?" he lifts his arms up, pushing your shoulder slightly. you don't budge, and he attempts to push you again, but with more force this time. before he's able to you, someone stands in front of you.
you see gojo's '1' on his shirt right in front of you, drenched in sweat, looking down at the opposing player.
"don't threaten her. deal with your team's stupid mistakes, idiot," he says, with a hand slightly pointing backwards as if to protect you from the guy that was harassing you previously. "the fuck you still here for? get your team ready, 'cause i'll boot the ball right into your ugly ass face."
the guy scoffs and walks back to his team, who console him and begin to think of a way to defend this penalty kick. gojo turns around, and he towers over you once again.
"thank you," you say, tucking a strand of loose hair behind your ears. with a slight chuckle, you then state, "although if you do purposely kick the ball into his face, i just might have to give you a yellow card."
he also laughs, and wipes his face with his shirt, revealing his torso that show the years of training he went to just to get this physique. even you found yourself staring for a while too long.
"phew, i thought you'd give me a red card instead, miss!" he jokes and you laugh in response. he pats you on the back as acknowledgement and also returns back to his team.
the penalty was smooth. gojo was in the right headspace, and was the one selected to take the penalty. the goal-keeper had no chance, and he swiftly darted the ball at the top right corner of the goal, after first faking out, causing the goal-keeper to dive too early and miss the ball.
everyone erupted in cheers, and gojo and geto could be seen celebrating by sliding across the stadium arm-in-arm whilst shoko was giving them a weird but happy stare.
other than that, the game went smoothly afterwards. no more cards were handed out, and you only had to award fouls every now and then, as well as break up fights between players by threatening them with yellow cards.
the tokyo-jujutsu team won 2-0, and the players began to walk off the pitch, meaning you had to as well, just after checking that all of your decisions were reasonable with the camera team first. you began to cringe at your own performance at times, where you looked like a awe-struck kid in the middle of the pitch.
fans were also leaving, and with one last breath, you turned around and headed inside to your changing room to change back into your regular clothes.
on the way out, you bumped into the tokyo-jujutsu team, who were chatting loudly with each other about their victory and how they were about to celebrate. you catch shoko's attention and she gestures for you to catch up to them, and so you do.
"ah, it's miss referee! nice job out there, girl!" she puts her arm around you and smiles. "you know, you're the first ever referee i've seen gojo stand up for."
you were thrown off by that. what did you do that was worth any more praise than anyone else? you only did the best job of judgement as you could, which anyone should've done in the same position. anyways, you didn't think about it too much and laughed it off.
"we were going out to get drinks to celebrate, wanna join?" she says, and the team wholeheartedly agrees, including gojo, and so you couldn't refuse. they all cheer and start thinking about what drinks they'll get and make bets on who will last the longest.
"but i thought you guys couldn't drink, especially during game season?" you ask.
"eh, i'm sure yaga won't mind. this is the first match where he hasn't had to reprimand satoru for arguing with the ref," geto says, slightly hitting gojo in the head, who looks off into the distance with a pout. "so i think this is within reason to celebrate. thanks to you, uh.."
"y/n," you smile at them brightly. "thanks, but i really didn't do much, i only judged like i normally would. all referees shouldn't be biased or let outside opinions affect their verdicts. it's just common sense, y'know?"
everyone agrees and you walk along with shoko, while gojo goes back to arguing and shitting about with geto.
⋆ ˚。⋆୨♡୧⋆ ˚。⋆
the bar is always a lively place to be, especially with friends. everyone is drinking, calling rounds and doing drunken acts of stupidity. you laugh while panda, their goal-keeper, attempts to break dance but results in what looks like a drunken leprechaun trying to do ballet.
"cheers!" you all shout in unison, downing as much of your beer as possible in one go. you never really drank, as you never had the time to go out, and you also didn't want to do anything while drunk that would jeopardize your career image for the rest of your life. because of this, you found it hard to down your drinks and you were pretty sure you didn't have a good alcohol tolerance.
this was probably your third round of shots, and you could feel your face heating up as well as feeling more outgoing than before. the team celebrated when the drinks were brought around, and everyone was counting down to take the shot.
gojo then sighed and took your shot glass from you, downing both his and yours. you looked at him with a sour look, and said, "what the hell? i was about to drink that!"
"this is only your third drink, and your head is on fire. your face is also turning red, you obviously can't handle any more." he scoffed and poked a finger at your head. he then turns to the rest of the group. "i'll take her shots from now."
"i can take more!!" you drunkenly exclaim, trying to grab the empty shot glass from him. he sighs and moves it even further pushing your head down so that you would stop shuffling in your seat.
after a little while of back and forth between the two of you, you eventually give in because you were simply too tired to argue back. you found yourself extremely tired and ready to fall asleep, except you were so far from home and you were in no state to drive as of current.
some-when, you closed your eyes for just a moment to rest them, and the rest of the night was just pitch black from then on.
; thanks for reading! i'm sorry this felt really slow moving. i wasn't sure how to convey the story in a way that felt smooth but put in moments that contribute to the gojo x reader part. please let me know if you think that a lot of the story is irrelevant information, i really would like to improve as this goes on! i will try and do better for the next chapter.
; thank you for all the support on the masterlist! also, let me know if you would like a separate post on soccer/football rules, just to clarify any terminology/rules that you might not understand.

“They immediately welcomed KTLA into the conversation. From the beginning, they knew this concert needed to be about more than just the music; it also had to share the stories of the personal loss and of the heroic efforts of our First Responders,” said Drafs. “As a local news organization, we are both humbled and honored to provide footage from the fire lines and share some of the significant stories we have reported with the organizers of FireAid. Those images captured by KTLA will be integrated into this unprecedented streaming event.”

Forget The Haters, Avatar Live-Action Star Elizabeth Yu Is Our Princess Azula
When Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbenderannounced that newcomer Elizabeth Yu was cast as Princess Azula, some fans of the original Nickelodeon cartoon immediately took to social media to complain. Some thought she looked too innocent to play the Fire Nation princess, an antagonist in the Nickelodeon series that takes place in an imagined world with people who can master and manipulate the different elemental energies of Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. Others lamented that her face wasn’t angular like Azula’s is in the cartoon, or that she looked too young for the part. (An especially odd critique considering, though never specified, Azula’s age is believed to be 14. Yu herself is now 21; she was 19 during filming.) But when it comes to the fan reaction, the young actor is completely unphased. “I’m a hit with the kids,” she jokes to Refinery29, adding that she doesn’t take it personally. “I think anybody playing this part would’ve gotten some kind of backlash.”
Yu is confident that when the show premieres February 22, fans will see the live-action show is doing more than recreating the cartoon. In the original, Princess Azula, the ambitious daughter of the Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim), doesn’t appear until Season 2 when she emerges as a new threat to the Avatar, the boy with the power to control all four elements and unite the nations against Ozai’s dictatorial rule. In this iteration, Azula is a recurring character, allowing fans to see her in a brand new light. “It’s an origin story for her,” Yu says. “It’s this foundation being laid out for a lot of things to make sense when we eventually pick up where we first met her in the original series.” So if you were worried Yu’s Azula had lost her villainous edge, don’t be. Yu describes her as “a girl boss,” but “evil.” Still, she says, “Azula is my baby girl, she’s my boo thing. I love her.”
Not only is she unbothered by the early reactions, she’s not at all nervous when thinking about how the show might be received by hardcore fans. Instead, the actor is more concerned with what her two younger sisters will think. The actor has seen Asian American representation grow from Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zack and Cody — “All I had growing up was London Tipton,” she says, giving a shoutout to star Brenda Song — to recent Oscar-nominated films, like her 2023 favorite Past Lives starring Greta Lee. As half-Korean, Yu is proud to be a part of this current shift. “The idea that my little sisters are going to be able to watch TV and movies, and the likelihood of them getting to see someone that looks like them is so much higher, is such a win. It’s so healing to know that we’re creating an industry where little girls — little anyones — can feel like that.”
The fact that Avatar: The Last Airbender stars Asian actors is arguably the new show’s biggest break from the original series. When the cartoon first premiered in 2005, it only featured a few Asian and Asian American voice actors, despite the fact that it took place in a world inhabited by mostly Asian and Indigenous peoples. When the beloved series was adapted into a widely panned live-action film, The Last Airbender (2010), the cast also remained mostly whitewashed, save for members of the Fire Nation, who were depicted as South Asian. Now, two decades after the original’s debut, Asians are finally getting a seat at the table. “It’s monumental,” Yu says.. “It’s so important to be able to see yourself in stories. That’s what storytelling is about.”
Yu’s confidence is impressive, especially considering Avatar: The Last Airbender is only her third credit on IMDB. She gives off the air of an old pro. And in some ways, she is. Born and raised in New Jersey, she’s been auditioning for acting roles since she was 16. She’s also been dating Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo since they were 15. They currently live together in New York City with their three cats, and she’s had a front row seat to his rise to global celebrity. Though she insists she has always tried to keep their careers separate from their relationship, she admits, “Getting to see someone with such a huge heart navigate this industry is the best advice that I could be given.” She adds, “We’re both still trying to figure it out, and it’s really cool to be able to do it together.”
She continued to audition throughout her last years of high school, though “it was a struggle,” she says. During her senior year, she debated whether or not to go to college or commit to acting full time. In the end, she stuck with her passion. Then, in December 2021, just months after her high school graduation, she booked Avatar. “‘Oh, thank God,’” she recalls thinking. “I’m doing what I should be doing.” She has since gone on to appear in the Oscar-nominated May December, opposite Julianne Moore, Natalie Portman, and Charles Melton.
It wasn’t until her fourth and final audition came around that Yu finally learned what role she was fighting for. “It was insane. I cried on the phone with my mom.” Months later, she was standing on the Fire Nation set next to the legendary Daniel Dae Kim in full armor and regalia, acting between bursts of flames. (“Before they’d call action, they’d be like, ‘Pyro!’ and the flames would ignite from these sconces on the walls. It was insane.”) And though she admits acting opposite Kim was intimidating at first, it was also pretty damn cool. “Who wouldn’t feel like the baddest bitch in the room sitting next to Daniel Dae Kim as Ozai?”
It sounds lucky, but her road to Azula had more than a few bumps. First, there was the fact that she didn’t know what project she was actually auditioning for. “They sent this completely fake, made-up storyline for this fake TV show. I was auditioning for a character named April,” she explains. After getting a callback, she hit the internet to do some sleuthing. “I became an FBI agent trying to figure out what I was actually auditioning for, because I was like, ‘Something about this does not feel real,’” she says. When she realized that it might be an adaptation of Avatar, a show she watched growing up, she couldn’t believe it. (“I was like, ‘No way. That is definitely not what I’m auditioning for.’”) Then there was the “minor car accident” that she got into right before her first callback. (She made it safe and sound and “did the damn thing!”).
As for what big names she hopes to work with next, Yu is open for whatever comes her way. For now, she’s got her eyes set on a not-yet-confirmed Season 2 of Avatar, which she hopes will include Azula’s time on Ember Island with her brother Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu) as well as some of her character’s famous lines. “I’m really excited to go into a second season and finally do these iconic line reads that Azula has,” she teases, adding, “I quote them all the time to myself. There’s this one scene in the original where she says, ‘Do the tides command this ship?’ And she’s basically threatening this soldier that she’ll throw him overboard if he doesn’t do what she says. It’s just so badass.”
Live action or not, Princess Azula will always be badass.

The History of the TV Yule Log
The Yule Log premiered in full color on Dec. 24, 1966, at 9:30 p.m. on WPIX Channel 11 in New York City.
Although many duplicates and copycats exist, the original Yule Log — the one that started it all — was filmed in 1966 on 16-millimeter film at Gracie Mansion, the home of then-Mayor John Lindsay. Four years later, in 1970, WPIX decided to re-shoot the footage on state-of-the-art 35-millimeter film, as the original 16-millimeter footage had become worn down.
Unfortunately, when WPIX shot the original Gracie Mansion footage, to capture the log in all its flaming glory, the crew decided to remove the protective screen, and a stray spark damaged a valuable antique rug at the mayor’s residence. In 1970, the city didn’t exactly extend a warm welcome for the station to return to its original set.
So the station sought an identical fireplace to keep the tradition alive. One was eventually found in Palo Alto, California, and a crew of technicians was dispatched out to complete the re-shoot.
This time, the team recorded a perfect 7-minute loop that magnificently captured the fire at its roaring best. It’s this iconic fireplace footage that has fascinated millions in the tri-state area and across the nation since 1970

August 12, 2024
HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
AUG 13
The 2024 election is shaping up to be bizarre on the Republican side. The party’s presidential nominee, former president Donald Trump, has largely stayed home and posted on social media while his vice presidential running mate J.D. Vance has been trying to cover the campaigning for the team. Indeed, Vance’s offer on Wednesday during a rally in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to debate Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris suggests that Vance is not unwilling to be seen as the face, if not the leader, of the Republican ticket.
The actual presidential nominee appears even more unstable than usual, and it certainly appears that his handlers are trying to keep him off stage. As Tom Nichols of The Atlantic noted yesterday, “When Trump is on TV a lot, his approval goes down. When he’s in hiding and his surrogates are rearranging his bonkers crazypants word salads into something like real thoughts, his approval goes up.”
Observers, including Jackie Calmes of the Los Angeles Times, have been clear that “Donald Trump’s state of mind should be under debate.” “Trump’s fire hose of cray-cray has inured Americans to his outrages,” Calmes wrote today. “But now that President Biden, a normal and empathetic man, has been pushed out of the 2024 race over concerns about his age and mental acuity, Trump’s more manifest unfitness for office should be ignored no longer—by the media, former advisors and military leaders who remain silent and, yes, Republicans.”
Trump held a surprise “press conference” on Thursday, where, according to a team of reporters and editors at NPR, he misstated things, exaggerated, or lied outright at least 162 times in 64 minutes, a rate of more than two times a minute.
He said that the United States “is in the most dangerous position it’s ever been in from an economic standpoint,” and warned we could end up in another depression like the Great Depression of the 1930s. In fact, the economy is strong and growing at a faster rate than it did in three of the four years of Trump’s presidency.
He warned of a national crime wave although crime has been plummeting after a surge in 2020, during Trump’s term, and said that we are “very close to a world war,” which illustrates that Trump’s main lever to turn out voters is fear. With the successes of the Biden-Harris administration having neutralized the economic fears that worked in the past, and with the goals of antiabortion activists achieved in 2022 with the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, Trump is apparently going for broke with the threat of World War III.
Altogether, the event did Trump no favors.
Poll numbers for Harris and her running mate Minnesota governor Tim Walz have climbed since President Joe Biden announced on July 21 he would not accept the Democratic nomination, and observers have reported that Trump’s anger is leading him into unforced errors, picking fights with allies and seemingly unable to let go of his focus on the lie that the 2020 election was stolen from him, a focus that his advisors warn is turning off voters.
Trump has repeatedly seemed to fantasize that Biden will return to the head of the Democratic ticket, and on Sunday, seemingly frantic about Harris’s huge rallies while he can no longer attract big crowds, released a rant accusing Vice President Harris of using AI to create fake footage showing large groups of supporters greeting her airplane. Faking crowds with AI is a technique we know Trump uses, but there is no evidence Harris does. Immediately, people who attended her events released their own videos proving the size of the crowds, and political pundits openly questioned Trump’s mental health.
Then, this morning, Trump posted on his social media channel: “I’m doing really well in the Presidential Race, leading in almost all of the REAL Polls, and this despite the Democrats unprecedentedly changing their Primary Winning Candidate, Sleepy Joe Biden, midstream.” He went on until his closing: “We are going to WIN BIG and take our Country back from the Radical Left Losers, Fascists, and Communists. We will, very quickly, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” This afternoon, Five Thirty Eight showed Harris up 2.7 points in the national polling average.
Trump’s advisors are pleading with him to stop name-calling and to stay on message. His campaign began today to run ads on X that look like his tweets but are much more like standard political ads.
Tonight, X owner Elon Musk planned to “interview” Trump, although it seemed pretty clear the event was intended simply to be a long advertisement for him. European Union commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton wrote an open letter to Musk warning about E.U. laws against amplifying harmful content “that promotes hatred, disorder, incitement to violence, or certain instances of disinformation.” Breton warned that his team “will be extremely vigilant” about protecting “E.U. citizens from serious harm.” Musk responded with a meme that said: “TAKE A BIG STEP BACK AND LITERALLY, F*CK YOUR OWN FACE!”
Last month the European Union charged X with failing to respect its social media law by letting disinformation and illegal content run rampant. X faces fines of up to several million euros.
In the end, technical difficulties delayed the start of the X Spaces event. Instead, wrote BBC journalist Shayan Sardarizadeh, who specializes in exposing disinformation, a “deepfake livestream of the Trump-Musk interview” was playing “on a fake Tesla channel on YouTube, with 200,000 people watching.” Sardarizadeh noted that the channel was running a crypto scam, and YouTube finally suspended it. When the real X channel finally began to function, it showed Musk and Trump heaping praise on each other. But Trump was slurring his words, and when HuffPost White House journalist S.V. Dáte asked the campaign about his inability to articulate, it answered: “Must be your sh*tty hearing. Get your ears checked out.”
Trump went to Montana on Friday in support of Republican candidate Tim Sheehy, who is running to unseat popular Democrat Jon Tester, but otherwise has said he is not planning to hit the road until after the Democratic National Convention concludes next week, an odd lack of campaigning at this point in a presidential contest. He seems to be trying to regain control of the political narrative through tweets and social media. Today he said he is suing the government over the raid on Mar-a-Lago that recovered hundreds of classified national security documents, but this is almost certainly posturing to try to make him look strong: he would never be willing to undergo the discovery phase of such a lawsuit.
In the midst of Trump’s frenzy, J.D. Vance has been doing the usual appearances of a campaign, although, unable to generate rally crowds himself, he has been reduced to following Harris and Walz to theirs and trying to grab headlines there.
On Sunday he did the rounds of the morning talk shows, where on CNN he complained that Democrats are bullying him by calling the MAGA Republicans “weird.” Political journalist Brian Tyler Cohen promptly answered: “Crooked Hillary, Crazy Nancy Pelosi, Sleepy Joe, Coco Chow, Lyin Ted, Ron DeSanctimonious, Birdbrain Nikki Haley, Old Crow McConnell, Gavin Newscum, Pencil Neck Schiff, Pocahontas, Cryin Chuck, and Kamabla would all like a word.”
Republicans have made punching down a key part of their rhetoric since at least the 1980s, and Vance’s frustration that the tables have turned feels a bit as if someone is finally standing up to the schoolyard bully.
Outside of the MAGA frenzy, Harris and Walz last week held big, joyous rallies in the swing states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Nevada, contrasting their happy campaign with the MAGA Republicans’ drumbeat of carnage and revenge. A cover article from Time magazine today by Charlotte Alter described the scene of one of her rallies as a mashup of a Beyoncé concert, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, and “the early days of Barack Obama”: “a kind of reception a Democratic presidential candidate hasn’t gotten in years. Fans packed into overflow spaces, waving homemade signs made of glitter and glue as drumlines roared. When Harris introduced her new running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the cheering lasted more than a minute.”
At the same time, the grave issues that are propelling the Democrats continue to gain traction. The Associated Press today reported that in the wake of the 2022 Dobbs decision, more than 100 pregnant women have been treated negligently or turned away from emergency rooms despite federal law. Two women, each of whom lost a fallopian tube to an undertreated ectopic pregnancy—one also lost 75% of one of her ovaries, and the other nearly bled to death—have asked the federal government to investigate whether the hospitals that sent them home to miscarry without medical assistance violated federal law.
On Saturday, Trump’s campaign said it had been hacked, after Politicoreported that it had received communication from an account called “Robert” about internal Trump campaign documents. David Kurtz of Talking Points Memo put together a helpful timeline of the story today, explaining that on Sunday the Washington Post said it had also received some of that information and said it believed the information to be that referred to in an August 9 warning from Microsoft that Iran was engaged in an influence campaign. Today the New York Times also said it had received the information, and this afternoon the FBI said it is investigating attempted hacking against both the Trump-Vance and Harris-Walz campaigns.
CNN national security and justice reporter Zachary Cohen reported tonight that the hackers apparently were able to access the campaign by compromising the personal email account of Trump operative Roger Stone.
“Buckle up,” Chris Krebs, the former director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, wrote on X. “Someone is running the 2016 playbook, expect continued efforts to stoke fires in society and go after election systems—95% votes on paper ballots is a strong resilience measure, combined with audits. But the chaos is the point….”
—
Chaos is the point.

Hamas Blows Up Hostage/Ceasefire Talks With New Demands, NYT and Others Report
The Biden admiration’s hopes of a Gaza ceasefire before the beginning of Ramadan this weekend appear to have been dashed as terrorist group Hamas continues to make new demands, The New York Times reported Wednesday.
The NYT article discloses that “in recent days, Hamas has backed away from the proposed agreement and made demands that Israel refuses to meet.” The terror group’s demands include freeing more terrorists from Israeli prisons, a permanent truce, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.
Jerusalem had agreed to a temporary ceasefire and the release of hundreds of convicted terrorists in exchange for captive Israeli women, elderly, and children, but Hamas issued fresh demands, Israeli media reports suggest. “Israeli officials reportedly believed the first phase was agreed upon, for a temporary ceasefire along with the return of 40 hostages for the release of hundreds of Palestinian security prisoners, but the terrorist organization Hamas suddenly increased its demands,” the Israeli TV channel i24NEWS reported.
Hamas’s demands keep rising while the terrorist group refuses to provide the names of the hostages who are still alive after five months of captivity. Estimated 134 Israeli hostages, including women and children, are believed to be in Gaza, many of them being subjected to repeated rape and torture, a recently released United Nations report shows.
The New York Times reported:
Talks between Israel and Hamas over the release of dozens of Israeli hostages held in Gaza have stalled, dimming hopes that a deal could be reached before Ramadan begins in a few days, according to several people briefed on the conversations. Negotiators had been discussing a proposal for an initial six-week cease-fire during which Hamas would release about 40 people — including women, elderly and ill hostages, and five female Israeli soldiers — for a substantial number of Palestinian prisoners. The discussions included terms for releasing at least 15 prisoners convicted of serious acts of terrorism who would be exchanged for the female soldiers. The terms also said Israel would release hundreds of other detainees or prisoners, at an average of 10 Palestinians for every Israeli civilian freed, officials said. American officials had said that they hoped to reach an agreement to release some hostages and put in place a temporary pause in fighting before Ramadan, which is expected to start this Sunday. President Biden expressed confidence last week that a deal was within reach. But in recent days, Hamas has backed away from the proposed agreement and made demands that Israel refuses to meet, according to officials briefed on the talks. The negotiations had been taking place in Doha, Qatar, before they moved to Cairo in recent days. (…)
