love how everybody talking about burt and fields has one of two theories: 1) burt and fields are corporate schills who lured irving to their home so lumon could search his apartment, or 2) burt is genuine but he's living in an emotionally abusive relationship with a man who convinced him he'd go to hell if he didn't undergo the severance procedure

I've thought of a secret third option: burt and fields are corporate schills, but burt genuinely cares about irving and was coerced into taking part in the severance program (which may or may not have been going on for decades longer than everyone thinks) by his abusive partner/church, and him inviting irving over to dinner was both part of lumon's plan to spy on him and burt's own cry for help

something my good friend @vaporgayve pointed out that I wanted to share about the music in this scene from episode 5:

fun fact, the score that plays at the end of the irving and burt scene in episode 5 is actually a minor version of their love theme from season 1, featured most notably in the plant room scene (called "secret places" on the ost). whilst the chords in this track aren't arpeggiated like the one in s1, and this begins on A minor instead of A major, it is the same theme and follows the same progression overall.

the minor key is used to contrast a more sinister or uncertain vibe, as this version of burt and irving don't quite trust each other yet, but the musical progression being identical means that for those who can pick up on it, it's clear that the echoes of who they once were to each other are still there.

i'm hoping they continue to feature different versions of it in upcoming episodes, especially if it changes as their relationship progresses. it'll be really interesting to see if it returns to the original version as well.

4 differences in Yingdu and S2 ed Lu Guang travelling back in time.

Difference 1:

S2: Sorrowful. Notice: no prominent mouth movements.

Yingdu: Tired and sweating (mouth opening and closing repeats twice).

S2: Exhausted and looks like he's about to cry. Notice: scratches on face.

Yingdu: Panting. Well he's just been running.

Difference 2:

Yingdu: Focus on eyebags and squeezing it shut, it wrinkling... Pushing back tears to give him the strength he needs to go back and live through everything again?

He's so sad 😭. Now we know what that photo is and where and what it leads to.

Difference 3:

S2 Notice: Focus on hand and darkening blood stains on shirt, harsh whites, blues, blacks and crimson.

Yingdu: Notice Cheng Xiaoshi's blood bright on Lu Guang's hand, direct symbolism of guilt. More prominent than faded and multiple blood stains — greater attention on the act of death and Lu Guang's presence and guilt.

We saw no blood on Lu Guang's hand in S2 ed, hmm... why?

Yingdu extra, sirens and harsh light and Lu Guang vanishing before the police get in... Seems more urgent, illegal.

Vanishing before the authorities get there is symbolism of Lu Guang's 'illegal' act and how he's constantly on alert. I'm reminded of Vein's remark of punishment.

Will Lu Guang evade punishment? Will the authorities (aka Vein and Liu Xiao) catch him?

Quite likely.

If Lu Guang is guilty of 'breaking the rules' does that make Vein and Liu Xiao the cops?* It seems to me another game of hunter and prey is yet to commence, except our prey isn't without his wits, guilt and drive, and our hunters don't know all... At least I hope so, but Liu Xiao acts like he knows something we don't...

*As we very well know, acting as the 'cop' doesn't necessarily make you a good guy, and even con artists, e.g. Vivian, can turn a new leaf.

I just love how trusting and obedient jeongwoo is towards sangcheol, he really didn't mind for one minute that sangcheol asked for his phone and put a tracking device on him. Nakguem would lose her mind if she saw this 😭

Imagine spending ten years trying to make a guy fall for you and follow everything you say just for a detective with anger issues to do in two months 💀😭

Anyway I think this tracking app is a foreshadowing maybe jeongwoo Wil get kidnapped or hurt and this how sangcheol would find him ( I'm praying for a scene like that)

I've just seen someone describe the trainee as a 'slow burn'... slow burn? babe it's been three episodes. they're co-workers. there's a power difference within the company. one ended up with the internship by lying in his interview & the other is a try-hard, speaks (aggressively) his mind, loner. I would've been more surprised if anything remotely romantic had ALREADY happened. I feel like recent bl shows have cooked our brain by feeling the need to have the characters kiss/fuck/get together as early as possible so that the audience feels satisfied. bring back getting the first kiss at ep 8 like in not me or ep 10 like in theory of love, that's the offgun formula AND I LOVE IT THAT WAY <3
