I’ve seen a few people say Gemma and Mark have to end up apart bc someone on the team (dont remember who) said that he wants Mark to have to process his grief, and allegedly that can’t happen if he just gets his wife back. But like, oh yes it can, and it must actually, and there’s no other way around it and it will be ugly and heartbreaking. Mark says it’s easier to pretend she never existed, which means bro is not processing any emotions at all, he’s pretending none of it ever happened. But if Gemma and him end up properly reuniting he will have to acknowledge that it happened, that he loved her and she was gone for 2 years and that he let it destroy him because he thought he’d never have to be okay again. He’ll have to grapple with the fact that he believed she was dead even though it wasn’t true, that he went on dates with other women and that technically that was the right thing to do with the information he had, anyone would’ve called him crazy if he said she was still alive, but she was and he didn’t. Like just getting the person you were grieving back isn’t going to make those emotions go away, in fact it’s going to make dealing with them a whole lot more imminently important bc how are you supposed to be there for your wife who’s just escaped from a kidnapping if you’re still caught up in all these emotions, ur brains default resolution to how much u love her has been pretending she doesn’t exist, for 2 years, and he’s going to have to actively unlearn that. There is no magic release that will undo those 2 years now that they’re together, the emotions and behaviors and grief that they picked up with continue to be carried with them until they actually sit down and deal with it.

Like yes ‘Mark gets Gemma back and everything’s fine now’ would be boring as fuck, but you can’t look me in my eyes and tell me that’s genuinely how you think they would play it, that’s not how life works and in the show that’s like 40% Grief Plotlines I’m willing to bet they know that. Also will throw in that Mark moving on with Helena, would not in of itself be processing his grief, again it’s not smth u can just circumstance ur way out of, no matter what happens or where the show goes Mark Scout is going to be emotionally fucked up by losing Gemma until he actually actively acknowledges and deals with his emotions surrounding it. There is no out.

The band must have been so disorienting for Mark and Helly. Not only because it’s the most people they’ve ever seen (and all at once!) but the noise too! A band on a speaker and right in your face are two very different things. There’s a good chance they don’t even know the name of the instruments.

The whole start of their day in darkness was unsettling enough but to have a million people you’ve never met burst through the doors banging and clashing things together would make it so much worse

Ricken rlly does start writing propaganda for a cult organized around the abusive ideas of a dead white guy, and then after being challenged on that issue, immediately tries to assert his authority as a patriarch, when he’s spent so much time beforehand organizing his ego around his sensitivity and supposed intellect and apparently more “evolved” masculinity. And then is like!! Surprised and upset when it goes badly for him. And none of that is shocking because it’s clear he’s actually always been woefully emotionally immature, but man what a quick turn around huh. Little bit too real actually

I feel for Gemma so, SO much after this episode.

She wakes up and her husband is there. The same man whose name she cried in the elevator. The man she’s missed for two years. And his hair is longer and his beard is gone but he’s smiling, and she’s smiling, and they fall into each other and the blood on his face mixes with the tears in her eyes and it doesn’t even matter.

She drags him through the scarlet, screaming halls — she’s fast from whatever she does on the days she wears a tracksuit, he’s slow from sitting on the couch and crying/drinking until he falls asleep — stepping over a dead man and into the elevator and treasuring the warmth of his hand. That sick, perverted doctor runs to get her back, but her husband steps between them and closes those doors.

And it is then Gemma knows. She doesn’t need to be afraid anymore.

But then she blinks and everything she’s wanted, everything she’s dreamed about for two years is staring her right in the face, an inch of glass between them — and no matter how hard she bangs on the door, all he does is stare at her like a bad dream he’s already forgetting.

She sobs for him. She screams his name. And all he can do is back away and take another woman’s hand.

Gemma’s dreams come true for a few, wonderful seconds. But that just makes it all the worse. Like loosening the grip around the head of a drowning man to let him come up for air — all her temporary relief did is remind her how much she is suffering and plunge her deeper into the pit of her grief.

This is the testing floor elevator all over again. Except this time, everything she wanted is not only taken from her.

It gives her a long, sorrowful look. Turns around. And walks away.

Thinking abt Natalie x Helly like, in the hypothetical context that Natalie and Helena grew up together and have a strained romance between them with years of history and Natalie would do anything for Helena but Helena is becoming distant and meaner and so much further away from all the little jokes and memories they used to share. And then she meets Helly, and she’s just like Helena, but the nice warm passionate caring Helena that Natalie fell in love with, and she tries to brush it off and ignore it but she keeps finding herself back there when she doesn’t need to be, just watching Helly work and joke and laugh with the MDR team.

Idrk how that would end I just need to put them in a room and see what happens.
