I am shocked that they invented something *worse* than bury your gays. Create a second version of yourself that is still gay and falls in love with another second version of somebody. But you still have your outside life where you are alone except for your dog and the man you fell in love with is happily married to another man. He's not straight, you weren't his awakening but he was yours and he's happy with another man but you're still lonely and the version of him who loves you and whom you love is dead now and you can never see him again holy shit I'm crying about Irving from severance again please I'm broken

not usually a fan of dead wife tropes but severance executed it SO WELL. It wasn't just about building the male character's personality, instead it showed us how raw grief is and how hard mark tried to process it all. The severance procedure was his last resort to feel some sense of normalcy or relief. Even after getting the procedure it's clear his outie isn't capable of accepting it.

We also saw how loved gemma was by everyone in their friend circle and family - which I don't think we see in a lot of other stories with this trope.

AND SHE'S NOT EVEN DEAD!!! SHES ALIVE!!! SHES ALIVE AND HE FOUND OUT IN THE END! it's a terrifying mess but she's alive! Even without their memories they cared for each other because at their core they are good people. LOVE TRANSCENDS SEVERANCE!!!

I love the part in Severance where the mark's innie learns independence and self respect and is introduced to anti-work/anti-capitalism ideas and all that through a poorly written shitty shitfest book by his future brother in law because it really does show that what is shitty media to one person is literally life saving to another. People who have the privilege of knowing about ideas that go against the system they're in will look at shitty media explaining ideas they know and then hate on it but that could very well be the thing to radicalize someone who's never toyed with that idea am I making sense do you understand
