‘the children yearn for the mines’ is a little too real to me bc when i was a kid and my older siblings were trying to get me into pokémon i really never cared to try playing. BUT. i was obsessed with the underground mining minigame in dppt. i used to beg my sister to let me take a turn playing and set it up for me bc i didn’t know how to so i could go mine for gems nonstop until i cleared that entire cave section of glittering wall spots which always made me so sad bc i was having such a great time. i didn’t even understand the significance of what i was doing but 7 year old me was high off of it

#years and years later when i actually played platinum myself and it hit me like OH this is the game with the mining thing!!!#you have no idea how happy i was #…and also sad. it made me kinda heartsick bc in my childhood nostalgia dreams #my brother and sister used to play online together and do capture the flag #and their little minigame battles in the underground with their cool secret bases were so fun to watch #like that was back when the wifi connection was working and the games were alive and relevant #but i came back to it far far too late. when it was a mere relic and i was alone with no other players #still. hearing the music again brought a smile to my face #pokémon #dppt #i am once again rambling about my very special relationship to sinnoh #i didn’t play pokémon as a kid but also yes i did it was part of my childhood. like without really knowing much about it #the lil character sprites. hearthome city theme #the contests #the crunchy sound of the map opening #and the incomprehensible map itself #the bike and surf music #empoleon and staravia’s cries as they went to use surf and fly #truly. being a younger sibling watching your older sibling play has such an impact on you #it’s all nostalgic to me too i just didn’t know the full context of it myself back then #couple all this with the weird feeling of having played pokémon legends arceus as my first own game #and THEN going and finally checking out dppt #it was like double nostalgia. two different half-nostakgia experiences #just. agh i make fun of gen 4 for a lot of things but it is fundamentally my heart isn’t it #i also literally am incapable of talking about it for more than 5 minutes without bringing pla into it lol #pokeposting

Ordo x Maze Week, day 4 : violent love

The Alphas never hid that they were proud men. That they tend to be hot-blooded. Harsh. They were not prone to pulling their punches. Maze was the first one to admit he had his petty moments. He also knew that the Alphas' independence made the clashes with the Nulls’ particular relationship even more intense, it exacerbated their lack of understanding. He certainly didn't understand Ordo’s need to be the good, perfect son to that insubordinate Sergeant.

He could try to find excuses for what he did. Say that he was tired of constantly walking on eggshells for Nulls he didn't care about. Make sure he didn't say something bad. Do something bad. Breath badly. He could say that he didn't think or forgot to be careful, even if his memory was specifically engineered to be perfect, just like the rest of them. He could say that he just wanted to kiss his boyfriend and didn't really think about the consequences. He could do all of that, sure.

But he didn't feel like lying to Ordo again.

It was so much more rewarding to keep the facts as they were. He came up to Ordo. He knew Skirata, Mereel and Jaing were with him. Force did he know that they were unaware he was dating Ordo. His boyfriend had made damn sure their relationship stayed a secret, with his usual demonstration of paranoia. He didn't spare them a look, just went straight for Ordo. And promptly kissed him passionately, making a show of it for their audience. It was a crude parody of their usual parting kiss before missions. Maze didn't care, he was burning with spite and pettiness, and felt a deep satisfaction at the clatter of beskar that ringed loudly when Skirata presumably dropped his helmet.

Leaving his boyfriend speechless and dumbfounded was always very satisfying, nodding to his siblings and father-figure before turning around made it particularly memorable. The memory of the pure shock he was greeted with will warm him during the next dark times.

Maze couldn't help but smirk on his way back to the flagship. He knew this wasn't a particularly smart move, it will only cause him problems in the near future. But pettiness tasted wonderfully.

Man I just finished Babel and I was excited to read discussions online because there's so much going on in it with so many little things and just....angry white people. Everywhere. Truly a dead dove moment.

#the “you can't trust white people” theme might be a little like...aggressive but gosh you are not wrong #rf kuang #it was such a good depiction imo #it felt so much like explaining to white (or sometimes black) people what the problem is #especially felt like explaining being queer to straight people #i feel like a lot of people have at least a vague intellectual understanding of racism even if they don't see the racism #babel an arcane history #babel or the necessity of violence #also she captured a fair bit of mixed race and chinese diaspora feelings #also also i can see the relationship to the secret history and the fact that this is a rebuttal of dark academia while being dark academia #also realizing i dislike dark academia tbh #just...the ye olde university feeling is not my style #hence i went to engineering school where it had a je ne sais quois that i think is widespread neurodivergence #the good old boys clubs just do not interest me and i cannot really care about their lifestyles #it's not bad mind you it's just not for me #babel however is the exception that made me realize i dislike dark academia #hated the cloisters #got a rec for the secret history and had negative interest in that #i really want more and better depictions of engineering school and like...any similar experiences to what i had #they just do things like the social network where it's still a rich kid good old boys club but now with “nerds” who are just business majors #like the big tech guys of the modern era are primarily business guys not like...building computers in their basement #give me aome barely functional people who lean heavily into being weird once they go to school and they have hijinks like #updating archlinux and giving the other people shots if you get xyz system working again #first to get x11 back? Okay now for something Different. Or the same. Who knows. But entirely for my own enrichment purposes.

For Moe, a transmasculine character who, despite its flamboyancy and androgyny, is solidly exclusively Some Guy in identity just with a lot of extra steps (and can get really dysphoric if interpreted Incorrectly). For Moe, all of this considered/factored in, to have a fairy Resplendent, which seems to be an all-girls club.

The goodness in your heart aside that may wish well for Moe and its fate. Is it giving Women and Thems, conflating nonbinary/genderqueer identities with being afab and therefore "woman-lite", which inherently alienates anyone who falls outside of that whether it be due to identity (Moe's case, it WILL fucking kill you), presentation or sex assigned at birth. Or can Moe just serve cunt in peace with its complicated relationship with femininity (both what was enforced and coerced upon it and how it currently defies and defiles it). Thematically, can Moe serve cunt in peace?
