Small but significant character moments that I actually really adore are from both the times we see the boys as tots. There is a reoccurrence that happens in both of them that I find so incredibly interesting.

For the turtle tot short, Splinter leaves the boys with weapons. In the short, Raph is the one who suggests they do “what Lou Jitsu would do” and Leo is the one who takes point when Splinter comes back to reprimand them. Leo, in taking point, is the one to defend them and get Splinter off their tails.

And then, in the flashback regarding the Kuroi Yōroi helmet, Raph is the one who grabs and throws “Skully” as a way to replace their missing ball which breaks it into pieces, but Leo is the one who speaks for the group and rushes into action to fix the teapot.

I love this for multiple reasons, but the biggest are how it shows that Raph has always been inclined toward the bold and fun and making the plans to include his brothers in what he loves and believes they’d love, whereas Leo has always been inclined to be the “Face” of the group and shoulder the attention even if it’s potentially negative all while coming up with on the spot attempts to fix the situation.

yeah mercury keeps telling emerald that cinder doesn't care about her but what about this emphasis on how she doesn't care about either of them:

"cinder doesn't care about you! she doesn't care about either of us!"

what's up with that. did he think at some point that cinder might have cared, and then something happened to make him think otherwise and now he's putting up walls to avoid getting hurt?

it's not like he was trying to distance himself away from cinder; if anything, he goes to stand by cinder's side only to get shoved aside by emerald.

but then raven refers to them as the two children who cinder had tricked into following her, and salem reveals that cinder is alive but must toil in isolation to redeem herself before returning.

did mercury expect cinder to return to them no matter what, screw toiling in isolation? but when that didn't happen, well. does she really care, then?

it's like how tyrian warned emerald—"careful, little girl. cinder isn't here to protect you anymore." and mercury steps up and tells tyrian to back off, defends emerald—like cinder has, before?—at the time when they all thought cinder was dead.

but then... she wasn't dead after all. she could have been there to protect emerald (them?), but wasn't. did that change things, in mercury's mind?

yet, in a volume where mercury no longer takes orders from cinder, he adds orange. in the sea of greys and blacks and the blue that doesn't quite stand out the same, there it is, bright as a day, cinder's color. not salem's to indicate his new loyalties; not emerald's to show how close they've become.

I LIKE the comedy

I LIKE the animation and artstyle

I LIKE the more serious plotlines like the government agents plot and the Cherubs plot

I LIKE the themes of friendship and found family

I even like most of the songs!

And ofc the voice cast slays every time

But just because your show has angst and tears and drama and sad music doesn't automatically make it "good".

Just because your characters are queer doesn't automatically make them good or well written characters

This fandom is so frustrating to deal with when you want to express your more nuanced takes of it

You know, when I go on instagram and read comments about Logan (idk why I do that it’s safer on tumblr for the most part), they always say he was a shit driver but it’s like…none of them want to acknowledge the fact that he was driving a SHITTY car made with parts from the previous year, making it heavier AND he didn’t have the same upgrades as Alex. He was making the best of a shitty situation. I don’t think anybody could have done better than him in that car, honestly. But it’s always easier to blame the driver rather than blame the team, right?

So as a recap for Alpine here let's see if I can even remember all of the horrors.

Both drivers were slain in Quali because of horrible strategy errors.

Esteban asked for his PU upgrade but it was given to Pierre instead, which I'm not even going to get into, I know why they are doing that, they are favoring their driver who is staying. I'm not even going to go there. Pierre gets the upgrade which makes perfect sense, he's already in P20 so why not start him from the pits with new equipment.

AGAIN, with NEW EQUPIMENT, Pierre has to DNF because some shit happens with the car. For what was an arguably decent race for Pierre here.

Esteban complains about the rear to the point where he almost wants to retire the car. They slap some softs on him for the last few laps to make one singular overtake and tell him to just get on with it then, because they don't want the DNF even though Esteban said it was "undrivable" on the radio and that it was "the worst drive/car of the season"

Pierre complained of brake troubles, ALL SEASON. He complained in the free practices, but he complains almost every single race about his brakes. They are not fixed.

Esteban has differing complaints every session, none are ever addressed.

Both of these drivers are screaming until their lips are blue and no one is listening to them.

This is all off the back of Silverstone, where again, strategy fell flatter than hell with Esteban - that was a SHOCKING mistake, and Pierre had TONS of NEW PARTS in his car and then couldn't even START THE RACE and went out in the formation lap.

Shocking, shocking, shocking. It's actually not shocking, which is half of the problem. But my god. Alpine, you are not selling yourself to Carlos very well. Esteban was smart to leave. Pierre, I just hope and pray for you now that you're stuck there for another few years.

They were sort of coming back up the ranks and then they fell flatter than fucking Bahrain the past few races. I don't even know what to say.
