There have been multiple times where I've seen people are like "haha Hua Cheng made up a story about being kicked out so Xie Lian would take him in haha so silly" so I just wanted to point this out.

He was quoting himself from when he was a little boy.

He was scared to just outright say who he was, but he kept trying to jog Xie Lian's memory (though ofc being a ghost with a photographic memory, he may not have remembered that normal people don't remember things from 800 years ago). He was constantly quoting himself. He showed Xie Lian the palm of his hand with the intention that Xie Lian see his totally fucked up fate and realize who he is.

To be honest... Hua Cheng doesn't really lie to Xie Lian. He lies by omission sometimes, but he does not outright lie. And I feel like people are missing something by apparently not being aware that Hua Cheng was trying to tell Xie Lian who he was, without telling him.

That's why he started trembling and laughing when Xie Lian recalled the story of the suicidal boy that Xie Lian told 'live for me!' - The entire time, he thought Xie Lian forgot about him. Until then.

I know it is trying to be emotionally resonate and the flute is pretty but...#It really does have the energy of “Okay thanks for listening to my tragedies and traumas. I don't know how to segue out of this.”#This madam lan design is inspired by Qourmet's design! Really good stuff that I was not able to do more with in this one panel.#Speaking of...I know it is ambiguous on purpose and we are only told what happened through LXC's POV but...#I always interpreted madam lan's passing as a suicide. I think LXC was told it was illness to soften the blow.#She was stuck in a house with maybe a servant coming by to give her food. One day a month she saw her children.#Of course she was warm and loving in their memories-#She was trying to give them a version of her that would be remembered as such. She wanted to protect them from the truth.#She did her best but she was already dead a long time ago. She must have felt like a ghost haunting a house.#Love to her was waiting. And both her boys inherited that view of love.

#payneland #edwin x charles #dead boy detectives #dbda #pre canon angst brought to you by the weirdo who's always drawing post canon fluff #something about oral tradition and old timey slang #i took quite a lot of decisions with this one so buckle up #first of all the female ghost keeps edwin's eyes color because there's still some truth to the legend #the background is the same shade of green to reference hell #just like it is when he's having his flashback #alive charles is dressed all in black because he's not a happy boy #i also made it so that he grips his clothes when his mate punches him even as it's intended to be friendly #because well #these people will end up killing him so it's less friendly when you remember THAT #charles obviously doesn't mean anything by the mary ann comment #he doesn't know the slang meaning and just blurted out what he remembered from the legend #he will find out reach some conclussions and go punch a wall about it probably #about edwin tho his escape is still very recent and he didn't expect this #but even so early on he knows charles means no harm and allows himself to be comforted #it wasn't intentional but hey edwin shruggin off charles' touch is a good parallel to that one scene after charles “kills” the night nurse

Hey.

A new Dead on Main idea.

But...

With like matchmakers Martha and Lady Gotham.

Like no really.

Lets say Danny finds their lair/ghost home one day while exploring the Infinite Realms, becomes friends with them, goes to them when he need actual parent advice (he loves Jazz and shes great but remember she herself is still a TEEN as well, not only that but she tries to look at things in a more logical standpoint of view because she's studying psychology). He really likes them cause of how nice and caring they are towards him and enjoys spending time with them.

So when Danny gets news that apparently he needs a 'ghost spouse' because he's now the Ghost King and its 'good for the Realms' according to the council of eyeballs. He goes to Martha and Thomas to vent about how dumb it is because he can't ask his friends to fake marry him because they aren't 'ghosty' enough. (They're liminal yes but not enough apparently, they need to have actually died for it to actually count)

Martha (I head-canon she's the brains of the Wayne family, like Thomas is smart no doubt but his smarts fall into medical knowledge) reads between the lines of those wordings and comes up with a plan.

It won't only help their young King but also it may just work out more than that if done right.

She goes to ghost side of Gotham City thats in the Realms and asks to speak with Lady Gotham the city spirit, there she tells the city spirit her plans and what is happening. Lady Gotham listens and grins at the idea.

A few days later, a stressed out Danny (whose had to deal with 'suitors' the eyeballs have been sending him) is in the ghost side of Gotham City meeting Martha for some ecto-coffee and as he's waiting at the cafe/bookstore they were going to meet up at, a portal opens up and Lady Gotham herself fly's over and dumps a stunned Red Freaking Hood at the table.

She books it after that and yells "Its now up to you Martha dear! Have fun!"

Martha appears giggling in a third seat between the two stunned young adults at the table.

#poorly drawn mdzs #mdzs #wei wuxian #granny wen #a-yuan #It's always fascinating how colours translate from the page to the screen.#It would probably surprise a lot of people to see what some of these comics actually look like in physical form.#My lighter colours takes about 3-4 washes before it shows up on scan which means it tends to ripple the page.#And my yellows and oranges are drastically different colours when scanned compared to the ink colour.#There's about 20 or so comics where everyone's hair is purple - because it scanned in the exact same colour as my light grey.#Wait my book is right here in front of me so I can...yeah...Comics 57-77 were indeed purple.#This is all to say - is it not fascinating how what we see is often not the full truth of what the subject truly is?#Is it not fascinating to open another episode that reminds us that despite everyone's claims they could totally spot the evil YLLZ-#-The man walks around among them for months as no more than a man haggling for deals like the rest.#It's almost as if he's just a person. It's almost as if none of us - no matter what we do are really anything more than just a person.#Your good acts will be overtaken by how other's interpret you in negative light.#Just as easily are people willing to forgive crueler actions if they hold you in high esteem.#But what's real? Is the page I hold the real version of this comic? Is it the one you look at?#Is the man known as Wuxian the most himself when he is alone or on the battlefield?#Perhaps he is and has always been a scared orphan boy lost in the market.#I think there is no good answer to any of these questions.#But I do know that panic rising in WWX as he frantically looks for A-yuan was for more than one boy.#To be human is to have layers around a delicate center. Every time you reach Rank 10 with a non-thief confidant, they reveal that they figured out you're a phantom thief. From an in-game standpoint it would be really funny if Joker discovered this pattern early on and yet STILL keeps hanging out with Akechi. Like... bro knows that if he manages to reach Rank 10 with Akechi then the detective twink (who constantly says he will put the phantom thieves in jail) will likely figure out that he's a phantom thief. Because that's what's been happening with EVERY confidant before him. But does that stop Joker from dropping everything to go on dates with him? Nope. What could possibly go wrong
