those first couple weeks after escaping a time loop have gotta be disorienting as all fuck. all those little cues that used to tell you what's about to happen are now triggers that cause you to brace for something that isn't coming. you have to relearn the permanence of death -- hell, you have reacquaint yourself with the entire concept of finality altogether. everything keeps changing but it never changes back and you keep having to remind yourself that this is normal. "it won't reset anymore," you echo to yourself, over and over and over, like a broken record, like you're still trapped in a loop, like someone who escaped the time loop but was doomed to bring it into the future with them

I feel like the transition from "superhero movies which assume the audience is too dumb to understand the concept of superheroes and spend the first 80% of the film slowly, laboriously explaining what a superhero is" to "superhero movies which assume the audience is incapable of sufficient suspension of disbelief to entertain the concept of superheroes and are constantly waving at the camera to reassure viewers that don't worry, we understand how silly this is, too, seriously, can you believe this shit?" doesn't represent an evolution of the genre so much as it represents an evolution of the writers' willingness to hang a lampshade on their naked contempt for the viewing audience.

I truly believe one of the most important things you can teach a person in school is how to analyze literature and art and movies so you know how to look at a work of art and place it both in its time and ours. To empathize with the artists behind it as they were and not as we are now. To recognize the ways in which humanity has grown or the connective tissue between us and the past. But mostly so I never have to see someone call a movie or its dialogue “cliche” or “stereotypical” when the cliche to which they’re referring was either quite literally invented or at least popularized by the movie they just watched.

Slowly decends into madness/spirals/gets obsessed over something to the point where they destroy their lives over it

Here are other minor signs you might want to look out for (doesn't apply to all Mad Scientist):

Very pathetic. A loser, if you will

Is gay

Wears glasses

Has a best friend who is extremely friendly and also a poet

Graying hair despite their relatively youthful appearance

Can be a little bit silly (as a treat)

Note that not all Mad Scientists are actual scientists. The Mad Scientist can be disguised as something else and may try to trick you; do not be fooled. Look for these traits to identify a real wild Mad Scientist.
