You know, when you think about it, just about everything about Jeff Goldblum being in Dark Dice is hilarious.

According to Travis Vengroff, he basically emailed Jeff Goldblum's people and was like "Hey, does Jeff wanna be on our horror D&D podcast?" and "people kept not saying no" (that's a direct quote). Like, Jeff was just like "why the hell not? I haven't done one of these before and it sounds fun."

And then there's a big deal made about it because, you know, it's Jeff freaking Goldblum playing D&D. That's catnip to so many people. There were clickbait articles. People discovered Dark Dice, and by extension Fool & Scholar, through this (me included, and now I'm nose deep in White Vault theorizing so look where that got me).

And then like three episodes in, his character is revealed to be a recurring shapeshifting villain (which, incidentally, implies that that particular villain once looked like Jeff Goldblum as an elf before he got warped into the thing it is now). He attacks the party's ranger and fucks off. Which, sure, it's Jeff Goldblum, they probably couldn't keep his character in the whole thing because they guy's super busy and wouldn't be able to be there for every session, right?

But he keeps turning up! They did a musical adaptation of the first season, which he wasn't even in, and they had him do the voice of that villain! He sings as an eldritch horror! It's great!

Behold, a snippet

Hahaaaa so I've written about 6k words since January ended and 2k of that was written yesterday for a short because I was possessed by my love for the "adoring knight besotted by their charge" trope and anyway I love my Silent One characters so much and--

“Ki?” I called to the empty hall before catching myself. Too many servants populated the center of the main palace for me to call her by name like that. It was one thing to do so in her presence, but a very different one to call for the crown princess like a wandering dog.

I cleared my throat and looked around for signs of any living souls. “Your Highness?” I tried again, gritting my teeth as I raised my voice and heard it crack. She hadn’t taken to teasing me for that yet, but I wasn’t about to put anything past her. Especially not when she was about to be cross with me.

“Who calls?” boomed a theatrically pompous voice from above that quickly dissolved into playful giggling. I raised my gaze to find my wayward charge at the top of the grand stairs, hands on her hips with a wide-legged stance. Her dress was in disarray and she’d lost her hair sash. Again. No doubt the silk was currently blowing across the great bridge, or sweeping over the grand lawn.

Or tied around the stony neck of an honored ancestor’s bust.

She raised her chin as my eyes met hers, and for a moment her dishevelment vanished, leaving only room for proud, regal charisma. A monarch stood in her place. A ruler fit to command any within her domain. Then she opened her mouth to grin—revealing two missing teeth—and she was once more the menace I was familiar with. “Looking for me, fair knight?”

I sighed at her teasing tone. “Yes. I’ve been sent to fetch you for class.”

Her beaming smile deflated a little, and she slumped with a pout. “Oh. I thought you wanted to play. I didn’t know it was a boring Leth day.”

You know what would be hilarious?

Steve announces to The Party that he’s bi and that he’s dating Eddie, and only then does Jonathan realize that he’s also bi.

Followed by the realization that he likes Steve.

Followed then by the admission that he wants to date Steve.

Followed immediately by the decision that he’s going to steal Eddie’s boyfriend.

Mr Jonathan ‘Steal Your Girl’ Byers starts wanting to hang out with Steve, and Steve is a little confused about it but also thrilled because, god. He needs more friends. Eddie, on the other hand, is like, what the fuck.

This is what a community looks like.

See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn't need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.

It's not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it's the type of interaction people have. They're content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.

Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.

If you want more of something, reblog it.

Cassandra looked down and in his outstretched hand laid a black hilted dagger with a sharp and shiny blade.

She reached out, taking it gently from he’s beautifully scarred hand.

“I’ve never used one before,” she whispered, looking down at the knife in her hand.

“You won’t need to use it, but if you did Truth Teller wouldn’t let you miss,” Azriel spoke confidently. She looked up at him and nodded her head.

She didn’t know the weight of the dagger, its power or what it meant to Azriel. All that mattered in this moment is it made her feel safe and it gave him some peace of mind.

Camp NaNo update!

Ayyy I can’t remember if I even announced camp this month but I’m doing it!! I set myself a Smol Goal knowing I’d be distracted and slow this time around and yea. That was a good choice lol. But I am writing! The Silent One is moving!!

Not much to say beyond that aside from hehehe I’m about to reach a character I’ve been wanting to introduce since the book appeared as a concept uwu Soon....soon... Meanwhile! Have an excerpt! (It’s a bit longish so more under a cut!)

  I halted mid-step, twisting to set my balled fists on the railing. Stewing, I gazed across the open horizon at the sky beyond, watching the sun begin to descend toward the water. I watched orange spread across blue both light and dark, casting warm light over the cresting waves.

  More thoughts whirled. I chewed on my bottom lip, not caring how unseemly it was.

  Before I could think to stop myself, I spoke, “Sir Lethen, is there anything else you wish you could have done with your life? Any other dreams?”

  The only indication I’d startled him with the question was a short breath through his nose. He collected himself immediately and cleared his throat. “This is all I ever could have imagined doing, Your Majesty,” he replied.

  It was the perfect answer, just as his last had been. Just what an obedient knight should have said. Exactly what was expected of him. Beneath the words was a truth I knew he wouldn’t say aloud—all his other options had been taken from him early on. He’d never been given any other choice.

  I knew that. I’d known, since he’d been brought to me. But I’d hoped...

  “But have you ever considered serving another? Has no lord or land ever drawn your eye?” I asked, raising a hand to shift direction before he could repeat himself or try to play to my ego. “Before you were sworn to me. Before you began your training, even. Was there anything else you liked? Any other aspirations? Something you wanted, before...this?” I gestured vaguely around us as I spoke, hoping he would understand. Hoping he would give me something, anything to work with.

  His answer was a lengthy, silent pause.

Maybe the real reason Batman is known in the JL for giving single syllable replies or even just grunts is that he trained all his small talk skills for his Brucie persona and now he doesn’t know how to small talk without flirting and he will absolutely not be doing that in front of Diana, Hal, Oliver, Dinah, J’onn, Billy, or Clark, all for very different reasons.
