UCN Voice Line Analysis: “A Ballerina’s Hints?”
So, Ballora represents Mrs. Afton in some way, right? That’s what we’re going with?
Because Ballora’s voice lines in UCN are making me go “Hold up” about some things. I might’ve said something about them before, but I’m doing it again because I have some thoughts.
”I can hear you… breathing.”
Oh, that’s a direct call-back to Sister Location. Or something close to it. That’s… all I’ve got for this one. Sorry.
“Admit it. You wanted to let me in.”
Here comes the juice. If we’re playing as William, then this implies some stuff. It boils down to either: (1) He might’ve wanted his wife to come back, even if it’s just to haunt him. (2) Ballora makes him lower his guard out of desperation because of those reminders. Or (3) he wanted to be emotionally vulnerable to Mrs. Afton, but part of him wouldn’t allow it.
“Why do you hide inside these walls?”
Yes, another callback to SL, but with her song this time. But now it’s a serious question she asks rather than a lyric she sings. All that comes to me is support for “Admit It“ Theory 3 and a heaping dose of Pink Floyd’s The Wall vibes. Not too sure if I’m right, though.
”Don’t be shy… :)”
Pretty sure I’ve touched on this one before, but I have new thoughts. Could just be a joking taunt, but MMM this feels like a relationship dynamic hint for Mrs. Afton and William. Like he was the shyer, more nervous one when he was with her. Not the other way around. The warm, friendly tone is not helping me think otherwise.
”These are strange circumstances that have brought us together.”
Could mean anything. Maybe Cassidy’s using his memories of Mrs. Afton against him here. Maybe Mrs. Afton is Ballora, but only in UCN because Cassidy brought back her spirit to taunt him. Whatever it is, even Ballora finds it strange.
That’s all the lines I can find for right now. However, I want to touch on one more thing: the overall tone she gives when saying her lines.
With William, she’s not terrified of him. Not a bit. She’s calm, confident, maybe even a bit taunting. Which means, by extension, Mrs. Afton probably was too. Maybe not as much or maybe even more so, but some amount was there.
Which means she could’ve pulled a “two can play at that game” if Will ever tried manipulating her. And, deep down, i think he would’ve been too intimidated to try such a thing to begin with.
