So I find it super odd that Wei Ying seems to always recognize LWJ without seeing him by the scent of sandalwood, but somehow when LWJ is all up in his nostrils kissing him while he's punned against the tree, he can't smell the telltale scent for some reason? Or does he just completely choose to ignore it??? What happened there?!?? He should have known. What do you think? Also, I love your fanfics!!!!!!! So much. Muah!!! 👩🏻‍🍳

Oooh! I love this question! Well, this is actually something my friends and I have discussed previously and I found it all so fascinating. Especially as, when one sense is lost (his sight, being blindfolded), the others are meant to be heightened!

So, the reason WWX cannot smell that usual sandalwood scent on LWJ when they are so close is actually because MXTX very cleverly set the scene up just so, prior to this.

As Wei Wuxian played his flute, he dangled one leg, letting it sway idly beneath him. The tip of his boot brushed the wild grass beneath the tree, and he paid no mind when it became damp with the morning dew that had gathered on the fresh green grass.

Having finished his tune, he settled back on the tree, crossing his arms and shifting into a more comfortable position. His flute was tucked between his arms, and the flower diffused a faint, cool fragrance from where it was still pinned by his heart.

That gorgeous dewy grass scent, the fragrant flower and the fact they are outside in an open space with the wind perhaps hindering his senses a little - all perfect conditions to hide that sandalwood scent. I just adore how meticulously planned the scene was that MXTX even carefully covered LWJ's trademark aroma!

Just to cover all bases here... I have seen some people point out that WWX never actually mentions LWJ smelling of sandalwood until his second life and use this as the reasoning for not noticing the scent - which is true, he never explicitly states as such. But! He obviously noticed it. As I have mentioned in previous meta on the scent of sandalwood and WWXs emotional reaction to it, he's only just come back to life and he's already commenting on how LWJ's always smells like this and how the scent seemed to "tugged at his heartstrings" - showing us he remembers LWJ smelling of sandalwood and his subconscious feelings for him at the same time.

So there you have it anon, MXTX just set the perfect scene to ensure WWX could not outright guess it was LWJ ☺️

I think the pervasiveness of sandalwood as a thing dudes smell like in fics is so funny. How do you all know what that smells like and that a dude would smell like it. I couldn't pick that scent out of a lineup

You know what's always bothered me? That Bella's strong, enticing scent is floral. Like Edward craves her blood but also wants to lick a bar of soap.

In case anyone wanted to know what shampoo/conditioner/deodorant/etc. Dennis uses, I'm fairly sure I've identified most of what's in here.

Shampoo: Alberto VO5 (Unknown scent. Possibly Tea Therapy - Vanilla Mint Tea or Ocean Refresh)

Note: Pretty sure there's an Ass Kickers United sticker on the top of the cap. My money's on tea therapy, vanilla mint goes better with the conditioner.

Conditioner: Herbal Essences - White Strawberry & Sweet Mint

Deodorant: Speed Stick GEAR (Unknown scent. Only back label is visible. Possible scents: Fresh Force, Cool Motion, Clean Peak)

Toothpaste: Crest Classic

Shaving Cream: Nivea

Seems to have a sponge and a rolled up towel in the center compartment. Two toothbrushes and a small makeup palette with brushes in the outside pockets. Not sure about the sunscreen/lotion. Could be an old bottle of Coppertone or Goldbond (it's extremely difficult to find older designs from around when the episode was shot to cross reference).

would saran kill azai if he thought azai would hurt/kill vika in order to make a contract with him (this is, assuming that azai ever learned who vika has a contract with)? would azai even be able to make a contract with saran, considering their past?

azai (altho hopeful) is not aware of saran returning to the world, let alone aware of vika. he would never turn or perceive him unless he has reason (like when he passes him somewhere and recognizes a certain, well known sandalwood scent....maybe he just imagined things though)

speaking of sarans scent, sandalwood is known not only for ceremonies/medicine usage (fitting sarans upbringing) but also for easing anxiety and nervousness (fitting vika, he rlly loves sarans scent and it seems not only the connection to saran brings him comfort and peace eheh)

the land is divided into 10 regions; amygdala is also divided into 10 sections and each one is in charge of a region. azai is the head of amygdala and in charge of region 0 (capital) - vika is a member of the elite team responsible for region 9. theres a distance between them on every level and azai only moves between regions when its business related and not avoidable

im not gonna answer this bc i dont wanna reveal too much already abt whats to come etc but azai/amygdala IS pretty shady and he works on a lot of shit behind closed doors; its the major reason why saran and azai fell out the way they did

saran is purposefully hiding his past, relations and identity so nothing has the chance of getting the attention of azai himself. its a "good" thing that when he died, amygdala didnt exist yet and azai kept sarans existence a secret so no one actually knows of saran (and the people who did are dead)

if azai did learn tho who vika has a contract with, it would not end good for both vika and saran. vika would be just a "minor obstacle" to get rid of, to obtain his desire

saran is coming for azai, slowly but surely. azai tries to see everything with the help of tools but saran sees much more with his eyes and he moves closer through his blind spots. this is why vika applied for amygdala

anyway what do yall think porter or jace's perfume/cologne smells like? definitely seeing porter would have bergamot, suede, and vetiver in his (v earthy tones overall) then i think jace is a sandalwood, cinnamon, and mayb amber girlie (mysterious and elegant w a hint of spice)

What do you think their scents would be like? Also, for fanfic purposes, how quickly do you think House would go into pre-heat after meeting Wilson (for context, I have a headcanon that if an omega who's been alone for too many heats meets what their more primal part of their brain decrees a potential mate, they go into heat early)

given how often medical workers have to sanitize for the safety of their patients, house and wilson probably have a decent amount of Clean Sterile Smell that lingers on them -- the ducklings too to a lesser degree probably. it's part of their scents but it's just because of their job so if they took a vacation it would fade after a while.

i imagine wilson would be like.... citrus-y. idk why but i'm getting orange vibes. citrus, and warmth. like a candle. yeah.... (zones out for a long time)

house.... i was thinking about this earlier. his disability affects his mood, and mood affects scents, so sometimes he smells more appealing, but on bad days you can almost taste his distress if it gets bad enough. sour, bitter notes more on your tongue than anything. otherwise he's fairly earthy, like a dry summer day, a little woody.... like a jogging path in a park. maybe even a little like artificial strawberry sometimes if he's really been gnawing on some suckers at ppth.

wrt the next question + your headcanon: ummm yoink! canon 4 me now. what if that was part of house finding wilson "interesting"? that specific word is vague enough to mean nearly anything, yet kind of a key word in the life of greg house at the same time. what was interesting, exactly? what if it was that hindbrain at play? something about this adorable alpha twink kicked some of those squashed and atrophied omega instincts into gear without house even realizing at first. it doesn't hit him until they actually talk a bit way later after wilson got bailed out that, oh, right, that's a thing that happens.
