wip wednesday because i remembered my set it up au exists and i am Enthused and want to share it

“Wait, oh – hold the lift, please!”

Buck managed to hit the button to reopen the doors, a frazzled looking stranger appearing in the doorway. Buck hadn’t seen him around the building before – he knew that for sure, because he’d remember a man that attractive. He had chocolatey brown hair that Buck – quite frankly – wanted to run his fingers through, the hair a little long in the front, and falling over the man’s forehead.

“Thanks,” the stranger huffed out a breath, cradling a salad with a familiar label on it. Sweetgreen – overpriced, of course, like everything in LA was, and the owner of the salad obvious.

Buck raised an eyebrow. “You’re Athena Grant’s new assistant?”

The stranger looked startled. “Uh – yeah, I am,” he said. “How did you know?”

“Sweetgreen,” Buck gestured. “Hot honey chicken, extra slaw, add avocado.”

“Oh, thank god,” the other man breathed a sigh of relief. “I wasn’t sure about the extra avocado.”

Buck grinned. “First week?”

“Yeah. That obvious?”

“A little bit,” Buck hummed. “I’m Buck, by the way. I work for Bobby Nash – the enemy upstairs.”

“Eddie,” the man returned. He looked as though he considered offering Buck a hand, but thought better of it, considering the precious salad he had in his hands. Buck understood. “I’m still learning all the politics of this office building, I’ve got to be honest.”

“Well,” Buck drawled, as the elevator began to approach the sixth floor, where Athena’s office and the magazine she ran was based. “All you really need to know is that Bobby and Athena hate each other, and so our offices are sworn enemies – you and I, especially, because we’re Bobby and Athena’s assistants.”

“Oh, nothing too crazy then,” Eddie laughed good-naturedly. The doors dinged, and he moved to step out. “Anything else I need to know?”

“Our offices secretly have drinks together every Friday,” Buck grinned. “Goldies – the cocktail bar down the street. Best margarita this side of town. We drown our sorrows about our terrible bosses and plot their demise – the usual.”

Eddie laughed, giving Buck a little wave, more adorable than Buck felt he could cope with. “I might see you there, then.”

The doors closed before Buck had a chance to respond.

“That you might,” he grinned to himself. “That you might.”
