The scene in the auxillary wardrobe seems a little underanalyzed tbh. It's a great scene.

Stede literally (and figuratively) takes Ed into his closet. He's being a bit vulnerable, showing Ed something he hasn't shown anyone else. And it's in this space Ed casually reveals he's Blackbeard, to Stede's shock (and then Ed shushes him).

Look. I could peel apart the layers of this for hours. The importance of "closets" in queer culture (as in "coming out of the closet"). How the delivery of Stede's "Do you fancy a fine fabric?" paired with the subsequent closet scene makes the whole thing read (to me) as Stede asking Ed if he's "a friend of Dorothy" and Ed's line affirming that he is.

It's all very interesting. And really fucking queer. From their very first interaction, Ed and Stede are connecting not just in a friend way but in a "meeting another potentially queer person" kind of way. Yeah, everyone on The Revenge is queer, but do we ever see Stede connecting/trying to connect with them over their shared queerness? Not really.
