literally pleased with almost all of the new atla trailer except as per usual, Zuko's scar, idk why studios are so scared to commit to the intensity of the thing, its supposed to be shocking and obvious and textured and the first thing you see... that's the point, Zuko is supposed to struggle with feeling like it defines and brands him before finally coming to the point in his journey where he defines it.

Hollywood/big studios are known to hesitate or straight up avoid properly and honestly and unapologetically showing people with disfigurements/disabilities/facial differences etc. with the realism they deserve. Which is a shame in general for representation and humanization but ESPECIALLY in this case as its minimization actively harms it's narrative purpose as well

I promise making the scar more intense (shrivel up the ear a bit, make it intrude in his hairline, make his eye in a permanent squint due to nerve damage, for god sake REMOVE THE EYEBROW IT WAS BURNED OFF) will not make Zuko "ugly", (the actor is incapable of looking ugly and also the implication that scars make people too unappealing? yikes) but will actually do the character and his journey justice, not to mention really show Ozai's brutality, another essential narrative tool. Especially when he's bald like hello??? It should be even more stark and intense when he doesn't have hair to distract from it and cover his ear!!!

When transitioning from 2D to live action, of course some visuals are up for interpretation but that usually involved ADDING detail because the constraints of having to stay on modeling frame to frame is gone, not minimizing, removing or airbrushing. Doing Zuko's scar right to me is absolutely essential and I'm disappointed they seem just as as scared to go there as I thought they might. It doesn't have to be gory, if you've ever seen burn victims in real life or in pictures or even cosplayers/artists who are skilled in realistic burn makeup you'd know its possible to balance realism with humanity. It's possible especially with their resources to avoid the "scary Halloween makeup" route while not holding back on the brutality of the original injury.

Budget is definitely not an issue, or "scaring the kids" considering this remake is likely aiming to go a lil darker in tone than the cartoon (which was already super dark with its target audience of nickelodeon 7 year olds so no excuses) Audiences SHOULD be unsettled and upset when they see him but not because he's hard/disturbing to look at but because we are human and do not want to imagine someone doing that to a child.

It's a deliberate choice out of the all too common fear/hesitation to allow someone who is destined to eventually become a protagonist and is meant to be sympathized with to be "too ugly" while this hesitation is very rarely applied to straight up villains (again we come back to media's historic villainization of facial deformity). It's a trend that's always ticked me off in fanart too. The boy's face was melted, for gods sake. Zuko was always portrayed as an attractive boy in the cartoon (fire nation girls fawn over him) even with the intensity of his scar which is something I've always admired! People exist with scars similar to Zuko's in real life, and should not only be permitted to be represented as good guys and/or as attractive when their scars are toned down to be "palatable"

Like I said there's more that I loved than didn't love about the trailer, that can be a whole essay on it's own but I needed to get this very specific vent off my chest because it missed the mark so hard and stands out like a sore thumb in comparison to all the other visuals that hit the nail on the head to me

Idk how good this is. I personally do have depression so I know my own experiences with how it affects me, but it shows in different ways for everyone. In terms of comfort and support I’m not fully sure this does any justice, hopefully it’s a little comforting. I have a great support system but I’m notorious for being too stubborn to accept help. Don’t do that by the way, because eventually it will likely stop coming. Let your friends and family support you; it’s not out of pity; it’s because they care and want to help in anyway they can even if that just means checking to make sure you are alive each morning to let you know they are there.

My bf (30m) and I (28f) have been together for a little over 5 years. When we got together I had an extremely stressful and physically demanding job. After quitting that terrible job and regaining some agency in my life, I spent a couple of years really focused on recovery. I nearly died from heart problems and had a big wakeup call that caused me to change my whole life. I've done the work of recovery without medical help (history of omission with doctors) but have had support from my bf, and am currently at the highest weight of my life.

at a recent checkup my Dr talked a lot about "healthy lifestyle" and mentioned my weight gain over the past couple of years. I'm still within the "normal" range for my height and build, but the after visit summary/chart notes denoted risk of becoming overweight. Idk if my Dr would have brought it up if my history of ED was in my chart, (and I did switch primary care practices a few years ago, so they weren't treating me at my thinnest) but it still shook me a bit and I will admit to feeling very triggered.

The job I moved to is quite sedentary compared to the previous terrible one - I wfh, and very rarely have to be on my feet or do strenuous activity. In addition, I have chronic pain issues that make exercise difficult, and so historically have just restricted to maintain/lose weight because it's easier for me physically to just be hungry than to work out. I didn't want to go down that road again though because of how intense and scary it got last time.

My bf is a personal trainer and specializes in working with low ability clients and people recovering from long illness/injury. When I told him that I wanted to start exercising more often and get a good cardio routine going, he was really excited and started immediately putting together an "action plan" (what he calls it w his clients idk) for me. Then he mentioned how I'd need to add on a bunch of meal supplements and snacks to avoid losing weight and I got upset.

We're a plant-based (vegan) household and live with a roommate (bf's friend) so mostly eat/cook communal dinners and have various breakfast & lunch plans on hand, so we already eat pretty healthy and make sure to have a good balance of macro/micro in the meal plan. My intent was to eat the same but increase my activity level to get out of the danger zone without restricting. I don't generally snack and rarely eat dessert, just the 3 squares.

I told my bf that I needed to lose weight and be more active according to my doctor, and that I wasn't comfortable with having protein supplements, smoothies, and snacks in addition to regular meals because that would defeat the purpose. He got really sad and said that he likes the way my body is now, and while he supports being more active, he doesn't want the size of me to change. His exact words at some point were "you look so good now, I love the amount of you that there is and I like the way you jiggle." It kind of made me feel sick and wonder if he has like a secret size fetish or something?

"Ugh. Just, get out, both of you." Before his veils collapse and oust him as a witch to the one being he does not want it revealed to, goddamnit. "Shoo!"

Buckethead just smirked and walked over to the bed instead. "Don't be a spoilsport now, Prowl. This is what you've been waiting for, haven't you? I'm sure the... others... will behave themselves for a little longer." Not with you here, he thought vehemently as he glared at Megatron.

Without waiting for a response, Megatron just pushed Optimus down, pinning both of them into the soft mattress. He gropes the Prime's valve cover as he grinds his own hips against that fat aft. Optimus groans and pops the coverz welcoming those large, tapered clawtips into his pussy to ply them apart.

Prowl knows that he should really, really kick both of them off and evict them (the fae king would take some work, but the Paladin needs to go first) before someone downstairs gets any funny ideas. But holy fuck, Megatron was right, he has been waiting for this for a long time, he thinks to himself as Optimus' thick spike stretched his drooling valve so deliciously.

The half dryad takes one look at the three of them on the bed, then another at the state of the room, and just sighs, and walks out. Optimus was just about to ask Prowl what's the deal with the gothic interiors, and why the masking spells, before someone calls out from the cellar vent below.

"Everything alright up there? I heard Springer storming off~!"

"...is there someone in the cellar, Prowl?" The Paladin asks uneasily. The spooky interiors weren't helping the impression. Megatron just scoffs and remarks "You should be asking just how many 'someones' are in the cellar, Prime."

The fae king snaps his fingers, and the three of them are teleported to the large velvet bed in the basement("why do you have a bed in your cellar Prowl-"), spikes still sheathed in respective valves. And that's when the Paladin sees:

-an acclaimed witch hunter that went missing ages ago (Barricade)(Look, fighting off the bastard got old after the 20th time, okay?) -a fallen angel, who was now apparently a demon, that Optimus recognizes (Sentinel)(He tried to shortchange him on a deal, so fuck him, he's imprisoned until further notice.) -a large spider (Tarantulas)(He recognises a brilliant scientist when he sees one, alright. He's a colleague!) -six green fae, in palm size instead of full size (Constructicons)(Prowl didn't actually imprison them; they just wouldn't fucking leave.) -and a grinning cat who shifts into bipedal form upon seeing them (Jazz)(He's only down here because of Optimus' visit, not that it matters anymore, but he's usually free to run around.)

They were playing poker in a circle through the cage bars (Barricade's and Sentinel's). There were cells made of iron and steel in one corner, covered in a bunch of etched and painted symbols. Another corner contained potion ingredients, food stuffs, and equipment (and a fishtank filled with shrunken scientific instruments?) The other corner on the other hand was a wall rack full off what could only be described as devious torture devices of sexual nature.

The bed was in the final corner, and was surrounded by unlit candles and magic circles. There were cuffs riveted to the bed posts, and hooks on the wall and ceiling. The rows of suspicious ritual supplies (cum jars) lining the headboard weren't helping. After perusing the room, Optimus clears his throat, unsure of what to say (his spike was hard though). Prowl wants to sink into the bed and never come back out.

Jazz, the motherfucker, just waves at them. "Hiya, OP! Having fun?" Megatron, ever the dickhead, replies with a jolly tone.

"Oh yes, immeasurably. Would you like to join us?" The Constructicons drop their cards and let out delightful cheers.

Idek if this is a valid angle to view the characters from because I guess they're all monsters or whatever but a part of me thinks that it's kinda lukewarm to refuse to engage with the complicated themes of the show, which abuse is featured heavily and pretty clearly imo. This isn't aimed at you btw. Something I noticed is people tend to use some of Louis's less favorable moments to justify the violence he experiences. Like that post about Armand just matching Louis energy in ep 5, most of the notes are taking the stance that Louis is a cold, unempathic pimp who doesn't care about sa victims, that Armand genuinely is completely right when he says he is always cleaning up after Louis that he was only worried and tenderhearted and Louis escalated in the worst way and that after Louis said that he deserved everything that happened after. And I may be biased but to me that is so fucking crazy. To me it seems like fans, specially nonblack fans, have zero empathy for black abuse victims, actively enacting abuse culture even. But idk if that is a too reactive view. I don't want to say Louis isn't flawed because he is. But I mean we are watching the season about Armand getting Claudia killed on purpose and somehow people are still like Maybe Armand didn't do it, maybe it was all Louis, maybe Louis really asked for it. All of it. I think there's a problem there but idk I kinda feel a little crazy too. Btw disclaimer I fuckin hate Lestat this is not about comparing Loumand/Loustat lol

I think it is fair to describe the actions of both Louis and Armand towards each other as abusive by definition but it's always important to remember that it is Armand in the position of greater power over him. Armand is older, stronger, owns dominion. He can walk in the sun, manipulate memories, and live without constant debilitating hunger for blood - all of which are things that impede Louis from being his own person outside of Armand.

Louis also faced this same predicament when he was with Lestat, but unlike Armand who uses his own innate powers against Louis, Lestat mostly used his social advantages of whiteness, wealth etc in addition to withholding key knowledge about vampirism to keep himself in control and Louis dependent on him.

and sure Louis can lash out all he wants! He can mock Armand's sexual trauma (trauma which Armand himself already gets them both to fetishise... but that's a whole different conversation...) he can hit back when Lestat hits him but when he's with either of those guys he is always going to be the victim. Nothing shitty he does to his partners, or to Claudia, or to Daniel, justifies what is being done to him by these men.

There absolutely has to be anti-blackness involved in any argument that says Louis deserves any of this. (Of course Armand as a brown South Asian man is not immune from fandom racism but his treatment is racialised in a different way that is also a different conversation). Any negative behaviour from a Black man is going to be seen by racists as exponentially more aggressive than it is, especially the cross-section with those you mentioned who aren't engaging with the complicated themes of this show exploring abuse.

They can see that Louis yelling at Armand is bad, but don't notice that Armand is being manipulative. They can see that Louis stabbing Lestat that one time during sex is bad (and still sexualise it), but don't notice that Louis is disassociating in every sex scene he has with Lestat afterwards (because they're too busy sexualising it). They can see that Louis making Daniel upset is bad, but don't notice that Daniel has been leveling dozens of racist and homophobic micro-aggressions at him since episode 1.

Armand got a few minutes to tell his tragic backstory in Louvre, Lestat had 2 or 3 different scenes in season 1 to recall his own. It's just been words. Meanwhile racists erase Louis' experiences with trauma because they never had enough fucking empathy for him to begin with to even register it happening to him! on screen! in real time! right in front of us!

And yeah Louis and Armand and Loumand are incredibly complex and compelling, and I do enjoy seeing Louis' moments of cruelty towards Armand! But he's never going to win against him in the game Armand built for him.

And in terms of Claudia, I do think that Louis failed her, as he has always failed her. And is responsible for her death in that regard. But that failure involved letting those other two fucking sharks eat her!!! I personally haven't seen anyone pushing the blame completely off Armand and onto Louis but I wouldn't be surprised. This week I've more pissed off about people levelling it all on Armand and think of Lestat as an unwilling participant.... this is of course the blonde white vampire show....

idk the more i think about mythal the more i feel like. she was a convenient scapegoat.

not to dismiss the very real harm she did to solas by pulling him from the fade into a physical form. but. like solas her decisions were made from a place of desperation? and if the theme of veilguard is regret, mythal found hers through the centuries the shard of her lived in her various hosts. morrigan says the mythal in flemeth was tempered by years of living amidst the common folk (or something like that, I can't remember the exact lines). so she's had time to see the consequences of her deeds and regret them, and has been trying to atone by helping as best as she can through the ages.

but then there's suddenly a second shard that was mythal at her height as a ruler? and she has to be the one to release solas? when solas himself showed little remorse for killing flemeth, dismissing it as "that was not mythal, that was a fraction of the whole" - why does this shard suddenly have the power to be taken seriously by him when flemeth was not?

i always thought of mythal as similar to solas - trying to do the right thing, but her actions had unintended consequences. i believe, at the heart of it, she wanted to protect. if she really was as remorselessly imperious as that shard was, wouldn't she have prevented felassan - who wore her vallaslin - from aiding solas when he was actively rebelling against her? inquisition mentions her rallying the others to stop falon'din, mentions her fighting with a blighted andruil, mentions her mediating potentially devastating arguments between the others and getting them to calm. she had good intentions, like solas, but unlike him she didn't see the danger and thought she had it managed - and she paid the price for it.

solas being unable to face his regrets until being freed by mythal does him and injustice imo. for someone who believes so firmly in free will and the freedom of choice, to have his own will be insufficient to face his mistakes is... like, yes, he is called pride for good reason, but i wish the inquisitor (friend or romanced!) was the one to guide him to the realization that only he could set himself free

(not going to mention the whole thing about Morrigan accepting the shard after spending her entire life trying to flee her mother's intentions i hate that thx)

Okay, this is the point where I stop feeling bad for Luke. She let him have, what? 3 days of positive buzz? Literally the second someone else posted him, she jumped at the chance to make it known she's there too. He knows who he's with by now, and he's actively choosing her. He's complicit through inaction. The only thing stopping me from thinking he's in on it atp is how his energy isn't matching hers. Idk, maybe he's getting to take the high road by letting her take the low one. Either way, it's a bad look and doesn't match the words coming out of his own mouth. If he wants to prove he's less of a pushover and more strong willed than Colin, this may be the time.

I understand why this feels frustrating and why some might see a pattern here – Luke gets a moment of positive buzz, and then something happens that stirs up speculation and tension again. Whether it’s intentional or not, the timing of certain posts can come across as capitalizing on the moment, I’m not blind to that.

At the same time, we’re looking at all of this through a very narrow lens. For all we know, the video could’ve just been a casual post without much thought about how it would be perceived (though I admit that feels doubtful). It does seem to come across as more calculated, and while I generally lean toward giving people the benefit of the doubt, I also understand feeling skeptical.

As for Luke, I think it’s fair to question his role in this. If his energy doesn’t seem to match hers, it might indicate they’re not entirely on the same page about how they handle their public image. That said, relationships are complex, and we don’t really know anything about theirs. Maybe he doesn’t see her posts as an issue, maybe he’s choosing to support her in his own way, or maybe he’s just trying not to let the fan base influence his personal life.

I do understand why it can feel disappointing when his actions or public image don’t align with what he’s said in the past. That disconnect can be frustrating, especially when you’ve invested in supporting someone’s career. But at the same time, he’s probably trying to balance his personal life with his professional one – and not always succeeding. There are fans, his friends, and his family to consider, and keeping everyone happy would be hard. All the while, he’s probably just trying to live his life as he deems fit (which is absolutely his right).

I think the best thing anybody can do is step back and let things unfold however they will. Whether they’re together or not, whether her posts are intentional or not, we’re only seeing fragments of their lives. Those fragments are so easy to misinterpret, especially when tensions are already high.

Okay, so I just finished The Fall of the House of Usher and I have a theory.

*SPOILERS if you haven't finished the show *

So, I was wondering why Verna chooses the moment she does to start killing off the kids. At first, I figured it had something to do with Roderick's diagnosis indicating that his death was imminent, but that still didn't mean Verna necessarily had to start right at that moment.

I think the reason the kids' deaths started when they did is because Perry was going to die anyway. With all the other deaths, Verna intervenes in ways that causes them to happen. However, when it comes to Perry's death it seems like that would have still happened even if the Ushers had lived in an alternate universe with no Verna. In fact, Verna only shows up to warn Perry and give him a chance to stop the entire thing. As far as I can remember (and correct me if I'm wrong; I have issues with face blindness so Carla Cugino switching wigs was confusing for me during the first two episodes), we don't see her interact with Perry before she shows up to the party. That party was doomed before she even stepped foot into the building without any manipulation from her.

So essentially, I think Prospero's death was a natural one (in that it would have happened with or without Verna) caused directly through Roderick and Fortunato's recklessness and evasion of consequences. If they had done the right thing and disposed of the waste properly (or weren't supernaturally protected from legal action and forced to dispose of their waste properly), Perry never would have died. But Perry's death was a natural consequence of the deal, one that happened without any supernatural intervention.

Since Perry was already going to die, and the rest of the bargain was already fulfilled, that's why Verna decided to strike when she did, allowing Perry's death to play out and then actively intervening with the other children.

Styrofoamers is the idea that although self injury can be risky and other coping strategies should be encouraged, it shouldn’t be seen as completely invalid and people who practice it safely should not be forced or shamed to stop doing it. I just called it Styrofoamers cuz I think its a cute name… and if you agree you can call yourself a styrofoamer and we’re all pals and stuff idk.

Why do I think this?/My arguments

My main reasons can be summarized as this:

I have had experience with self injury and felt that it helped me cope effectively. Coping strategies differ for everyone, and just because it would never work for you doesn’t mean it can’t help others.

Having a strict “no tolerance” policy about self injury is damaging to those who do it because it is incredibly difficult to reach out for help for mental or physical reasons, especially when someone finding out results in consequences. I have seen firsthand from many people how this causes serious injuries to have to stay unreported and improperly treated due to fear of people finding out and being punished and forced to stop.

Whether you agree with me or not, everyone has a right to bodily autonomy and taking that away just because you can’t understand why someone would do something is a violation of their rights. I think that a change in culture from “self injury must be completely stopped at all costs” to one of “you can self injure if you’d like, but be safe about if or you will be forced to stop” would be incredibly helpful to everyone involved. I hope that even if you disagree with me you can understand why I think this.

Counter arguments/Rebuttals

I cannot cover every single counter argument, but here’s some common ones. If you have one that was not covered that you think makes a valid point let me know and I can add it to the list.

“It’s disturbing.”

Thats your own opinion. Your opinion should not be a basis for deciding what people can or cannot do with their bodies.

“It’s dangerous.”

Yes, it is riskier than other actions. However even with a very simple knowledge of first aid self injury becomes something that poses little to no danger to those involved. If an accident were to occur, a shift in culture where self injury is accepted would make those doing it not be scared to seek medical treatment. This could and would save lives.

“I can’t understand why someone would do that. It must be mental illness, it should be stopped.”

If you didn’t enjoy knitting, would you say that all knitters should have their tools forcefully taken away and be punished if they were caught doing it? No, I’m sure you wouldn’t. The issue here is a combination of it not being for you and the natural human instinct of injury = danger = bad. If you can remove yourself from the ladder and think about it from a purely logical standpoint, it should be clear it’s just as simple as it’s an activity thats not for you. Your personal opinions are valid but should never be used as a justification to remove someone’s bodily autonomy. I would be lying if I said that self injury cant stem from mental illness, but self injury is just a symptom and not the problem. Plucking a flowers petals will not remove the root.

What should be done

People who self injure shouldn’t be shamed. They shouldn’t be told they are wrong for wanting to do something. My whole life, I was told it was wrong. I did it anyway. Want to know what I learned? When you really ask someone why they want to stop you from injuring yourself they can’t think of a logical reason. It’s all pure instinct, “injury = danger = bad”. What people need to do is look past what they first think and not judge a book by its cover.

Identity: I either have BEEF WITH it, feel GODLY, or be so LOW, really low. I live with both passion and hate. I'm very confused. But I can say I'm just tired!

Attachments: Relationships are so hard to maintain bc of how much I fear abandonment, like bro I can't even leave my family as much as I want to. I'm more scared of getting disowned or losing my name. Love is a concept I long to grasp at the same time scared of it, I don't understand jackshit about " love ".

I spent the last two weeks reading every single witch hat atelier chapter (except for 77 which was published yesterday lol) and it has consumed my entire life.

I am obsessed with Qifrey just the idea of a really sweet professor who is also very morally grey and has a very dark past taking in all these traumatized little girls as his witch apprentices to protect them from the same experiences he went through and being so so understanding of their experiences and emotions and worrying about them and never pushing them to do things they don't want to do and letting them experiment as much as they want while providing guidance when they need it. And especially his relationship to Coco with how strongly she resembles his younger self and how they parallel each other but this time as her professor he is trying to keep her away from the pain he suffers and he's trying to make Coco have hope in magic in a way that he himself doesn't have. And the way he acts towards the girls actually makes them trust him SO much like (spoilers) Coco has been keeping the whole Custas ordeal a secret at the request of Tartar but in the more recent volumes she has finally decided to tell Qifrey because of how much she trusts him and Qifrey not only patiently listened to her and allowed her to do what she wanted even though it was dangerous because he knew how important it was but he also actually wanted to help Custas and was willing to talk to him instead of immediately fighting him for doing forbidden magic like the other adults (sorry Lulucy). And like idk it's weird because I'm used to seeing characters that are morally grey like him but to having a character like that just be such a genuine and good teacher/father figure. And granted he actually does have selfish reasons to want to have Coco as an apprentice and that's a big part of what makes him morally grey but a great thing about it is that he doesn't actually let these reasons change the kind of father/daughter or professor/apprentice relationship he has with her like he doesn't treat her any differently than his other apprentices and he very much cares about her beyond just being a lead to the brimhats and he constantly shows it with his actions.

Also his relationship to Olruggio is also so perfectly contradictory. Like you can't convince me they aren't in love. Personally unlike some of the fandom that likes to say they are just married but haven't said it I like to believe that they are both in love and are vaguely aware of the fact that the other likes them back but Qifrey refuses to confess because he doesn't think he deserves it for obvious reasons and he also thinks Olruggio would realize his intentions even sooner if they were romantically involved and Olruggio on the other hand is so used to Qifrey's secrets and dodgy personality and refusal to talk about serious things that he's afraid if he confessed Qifrey would just completely shut him off (we all know he would actually do something worse but shh 🤫). But even without the shipping if you just (for some reason) see them as friends there is still so much to say about their relationship like Olruggio clearly cares so deeply about Qifrey that he spent his childhood with him and then moved with him to his atelier and still lives with him after all the crazy things Qifrey pulls off (like spontaneous adoption) and he also forgives Qifrey for everything no matter what and (spoilers for chapter 40) still Qifrey (who is very much still affected by his trauma on the daily) is so closed off that he is not able to accept all of this affection and acceptance that Olruggio is willing to give to the point that Qifrey is actively harming him and violating his personhood by erasing his memories whenever he finds out about Qifrey's search. And like... the fact that Qifrey is so traumatized that in "self-defense" he's turning around and doing the exact thing that traumatized him to the person he loves most and the fact that Olruggio loves him so much that he would be willing to forgive even this... I don't even know what to say anymore because they just make me want to scream.

Anyway yeah I like Qifrey a normal amount I swear
