I am never going to complain about Greek Duolingo again

I mean, I am. But still.

So, as some of you know, my family has been coming to this tiny Greek seaside village for several years. Just over a week ago I came out here with my mum, under the impression that early September, after the height of the summer heat, would be a good time to have a holiday. ANYWAY Storm Daniel had other ideas about that. Locally things are improving (I'm actually really pissed off about the disaster-porn tone of most English-language media coverage, but that's another post). The power is back on, there's running water most of the time, and though the latter is not drinkable, a truck from the government came and handled out free bottled water yesterday. But we are currently kind of stuck. Can't do tourist things. Can't go home. There aren't any local flights out until Saturday and the road to Thessaloniki is still closed.

So this evening, feeling kind of aimless and depressed, I go down to the nearest beach with a couple of binbags and start cleaning up in an effort to at least do something positive. I always try to do this at least once out here and obviously, after the storm, there's a lot more plastic and rubbish than usual.

At some point I find this large, round bit of metal - some kind of machinery part, I think -- that's too big for the bag, so I take it to the bins on its own, leaving the rubbish bag on the beach. And when I come back for it, something among the stones beside it moves.

Specifically, it pulls its head sharply inside its shell

So, meanwhile I've been trying to learn some Greek with the help of Duolingo.

I currently have a 33-day streak and... I have questions. Shouldn't I be able to use the past or future tenses by now? Shouldn't I be able to say "x is like y"? I can't do those things. But one thing I absolutely can say all day long is έχω μια χελώνα : I have a turtle.

This is far from the limit of Duolingo Greek's turtle-related content. "An obsession with turtles" is my mother's characterisation. I can inform you that the turtle is not a bird, and, improbably, that the turtle is drinking milk. I can introduce you to a turtle in company with a horse and an elephant. As far as Duolingo is concerned, it really is turtles all the way down.

Now this, you may be able to see, is not a turtle. It has claws rather than flippers. It is a tortoise. I know there are wild tortoises in Greece: my aunt once rescued a pair of them shagging in the middle of the road -- but that was up in the mountains. I've even seen one myself, but it was also on a road and very dead.

I am 95% certain they don't belong on beaches. There's nothing for it to eat, except, unfortunately, a lot of plastic. Even if it gets off the beach it will immediately find itself on a road where it could get hit by a car. I'm pretty sure it must have been washed down by the floodwater and has been just sitting there, dazed, ever since.

Now obviously the first thing I want to do on encountering this unusual animal is to go and tell my mummy, so I do. The tortoise immediately brightens her day. She agrees that the tortoise is not happy on the beach and needs to be taken somewhere safe. it gets surprisingly wriggly when picked up so we put it in a carrier bag with some grapes and cucumber and go looking for somewhere to rehome it.

We find a path leading up between the houses towards a likely-looking field, but before we get very far a dog in a yard goes berserk and a man's head pops over a fence and demands to know what we're doing. He does this in English, as evidently we're just that obviously tourists.

"I found a tortoise on the beach!" I explain. "We want to find somewhere to put it."

"A what," he asks.

"It's like a, you know," I begin and then to my astonishment I find myself saying... "μια χελώνα"

"Oh! A turtle!" he says.

"But from the land. δεν είναι χελώνα", [it is not a turtle,] I say, as I am worried he will tell me to put it back near the sea where I found it. As it turns out it actually IS a χελώνα, Greek does not distinguish between turtles and tortoises, but I don't know that; I can't even name the days of the week or identify any colours other than pink yet, give me a break.

The man's entire demeanour changes and thaws. He does not worry about my turtle-that-is-not-a-turtle conundrum. He knows where οι χελώνες come from and where η χελώνα μας belongs. He leads us through a gate into a courtyard area.

"[somethingsomething] μια χελώνα," he explains to the assembled onlookers, of whom there are, suddenly, a surprising number.

"ΜΙΑ ΧΕΛΩΝΑ!!!" crows the throng of delighted small children, who are, suddenly, everywhere.

"μια χελώνα!" I agree, accepting that at least for current purposes, that is what it is.

"Μπορούμε να δούμε τη χελώνα σας; [can we see your turtle?]" asks an adorable little girl, shyly, and I understand??

The children fucking love looking at the χελώνα and showing it to them is kind of magical?

I finally put the tortoise down on the grass of this wild area off to the side of the courtyard, and marvel aloud that it is weird that I barely know any Greek except how to say μια χελώνα.

"I think she will soon run off," a kind lady called Aspasia assures me, seeing I remain slightly anxious about its fate. "I don't know why I'm saying 'she'. I suppose because χελώνα is feminine in Greek."

"Yes! I know that!" I exclaim, thrilled.

"Well done!" she says. And also she asks if we are OK for drinking water after the storm and if we need any help with anything and is just generally incredibly lovely and now we know more of the neighbours!

So "μια χελώνα" has just become, by a long way, my most-used and most understood and all-around most conversationally successful phrase in Greek. So I guess I have to admit I was wrong to doubt Duolingo's wisdom: it is correct to be obsessed with turtles. And I concede that prior to learning how to count to ten or to distinguish right from left, the simple ability to yell the word TURTLE over and over again is, it turns out, a crucial element of the responsible traveller's social skills.

(I am pretty fluent in Italian and turtles haven't come up in conversation even once?)

I just started watching Legend of Ruyi with my mom and she enjoys it. She REALLY prefers shows with lots of historically accurate details, including historical attitudes. That means no pining after the Emperor like a modern woman and expecting monogamy, essentially, which is the reason we had to stop Empress of China. Her favorites are Story of Yanxi Palace, Longest Day in Chang'an, and Goryeo-Khitan War, and Legend of Ruyi might also end up up there - she's enjoying it so far. Any other recommendations? I'm thinking Luoyang after we finish Ruyi but idk.

That depends how not modern she wants - Luoyang has a female policewoman (or equivalent) as one of the mains and I am pretty sure it was not a thing. If that's not an issue, then it's great!

CDRAMAS

Three Kingdoms 2010 is great at feeling period appropriate though there are very few female characters if that is an issue for your mother.

The Advisors Alliance is wonderful, does not have anachronistic attitudes towards either morality or polygamy but more prominent roles for women than Three Kingdoms.

The Story of Han Dynasty (2005) and The Legend of Chu and Han (also known as The King's War) from 2012 also feel period appropriate - the former is old so looks it but vvv solid and the latter is wonderful and that cast!

Any of the Qin Empire series (there are three) would fit the bill.

I've heard amazing things about Legend of Zhen Huan and I peeked at it and it looked very good, but I don't really do most harem dramas so I haven't watched it in full.

In general, because I am not a harem drama person, the recs I gave are more battle/politics/dude heavy so I am gonna throw this ask open to my mutuals who do watch harem dramas for more recs.

KDRAMAS

Most of these are gonna be somewhat older because clearly what your mom likes are traditional sageuks and those are sadly not made much any more.

If your mom liked GK War, then may I recommend King of Tears Lee Bang Won. It's by the same screenwriter, and has the same "adult people doing adult things in period appropriate manner" vibe. Not a pretty boy in sight.

Six Flying Dragons also deals with Lee Bang Won and is one of my favorite period dramas of all time. It's quite epic, has a huge cast of characters, more prominent female roles than King of Tears and to me feels period appropriate enough (no royals yearn for monogamy.)

Tree with Deep Roots - same people who did SFD, this one centers sort of on creation of written Korean alphabet and is not at all boring, surprisingly enough. It's actually intense and heartbreaking and very adult.

The Nokdu Flower - I am in the middle of it but from what I've heard it does not go off the rails. It's set during the Peasant Revolution in 1894-95 and centers around three main characters - a female trader, an illegitimate son of a noble family who's an enforcer, and a legitimate noble heir who goes down a dark path. It's grim and not at all court adjacent so may not be your mom's bag but it would quailfy otherwise.

Empress Ki - this is the closest I've seen a kdrama do a harem cdrama and it's glorious. There is harem and murders and what not and it's definitely female centric and does not feel modern to me (the emperor may be obsessed with the eventual Empress Ki - and historically he appeared to be so as well - but he has plenty of other wives.)

All the good older traditional sageuks about monarchs or their families - Jumong, Lee San Wind of the Palace, Queen Seon Duk, Dong Yi.

Slave Hunters - once again, not royalty centric at all, more dealing with dregs of society, but it's smart and adult and doesn't feel particularly anachronistic to me (the attitudes to slavery feel so tragically realistic.)

Bossam: Steal the Fate - it deals with the custom of kidnapping widows so they could remarry and is surprisingly gritty and real feeling with a lovely romance in it.

Haechi - it follows Yeongjo when he was still a prince. It's a bit of a mystery/investigative thing.

Damo - a police captain, a tea lady and a rebel leader all get entangled in a conspiracy. It's so grim and amazing and heartbreaking.

Conspiracy in the Court - a grownup mystery during Jeongjo's reign.

Eight Days - also set during Jeongjo's reign and centering around assassination attempts on the king. So smart.

My Dearest - it's set during the Qing invasion of Korea and not at all royalty adjacent in terms of the mains though the king and his heir are prominent supporting characters but the attitudes felt so period appropriate - class attitudes, attitudes towards women losing their honor etc. It was my favorite drama last year.

Literally screeching oh my god. The fact these things just hijacked this mans business is almost funny. They also talked with a circus ringmaster. Nikola Orsinov? gregor Orsinov? A different one. the statement was given 1996 and Gregor was the leader around the 40's but Nikola, by her description I think, sounded young. So. Who was this ringmaster? Maybe Im getting the timeframe wrong. or they're like eternal. Maybe they like just shed skin and steal a new body, just going by the same last name- okay I don't know.

#839: HL ANNIVERSARY!! WHAT!!

How's it Feb 10th already??? I can't believe it's been a whole year.

HL came to my life silently and I begrudgingly accepted its presence.

The first word in immediate association of the latter is 'annoyance' but that's not the case; the case was… uncertainty. Would I like it? Will I enjoy it?? What to expect of the some 70gb+ package???

This post was originally bitter.

I had a plethora of bad experiences in this fandom.

But what's important is that I'm a little lost for words for how to describe the joy this game brought me when I needed it most; how many amazing peapol I met and became friends with and who's art were huffs from the life tank; what it did to my English at the time of playing I thought was rather good; it pushed me to many hours of research and for that, I'm truly grateful.

Besides, I waited for this one because I played the old games back in the day for hours, replayed them, played mods and new maps, haha.

I also managed to forget Russian -- or did I, потому что как подсказала рефлексия, общение со старыми друзьями, хлвк, ну и всякое такое по мелочи, я просто не общаюсь на каком-то то ли арго, то ли чом. Intro??

Hi! My name is Draconia and this is my BokuMono Blog (TM) I like and follow from @octahyde!!

Bokumono is my all time, number one favorite series with absolutely zero exceptions. It always has been and always will be the one single most important media to me in my entire life. I got into the series in 2007 and have played almost every game since. This series is such a comfort that when I’m struggling my therapist literally prescribes me to play one of these games.

The only games I haven’t played are the GBC games (I own one of them though), 64, Back To Nature (played every ver of the mineral town games besides it), Save the Homeland/Hero of Leaf Valley (I have the latter but don’t have a good psp. Tfw. I know this makes my pfp very ironic but listen what me and Dia have is So Real.) and Sunshine Islands because I was less than fond of IoH.

I have played every other game in the series besides that! Of those, the only games I actively dislike are Pioneers of Olive Town and Island of Happiness (besides Pierre). I’m good to talk about literally any other game in the series though!!

This series is what got me to draw, write, make plushies, AND cosplay. Igusa Matsuyama to this day is my biggest artistic inspiration.

As for some more info:

My favorite games are Magical Melody, Grand Bazaar, and Trio of Towns.

Of those three, Magical Melody is my favorite. It was the first game in the series I ever played, and will always be the most special to me. No matter what. Thanks to a very cherished person in my life, I even have a disc signed by Yasuhiro Wada himself framed in my apartment. It’s probably my most prized personal, non heirloom possession.

My favorite bachelorettes are Dia, Vivi, and Agate.

My favorite ship in the series is Jamie/Tina. Babby’s first queer ship…

My favorite crop is tea leaves. Idk if that one is random but my farms are like 95% crops and like a sheep or two so I feel like I should say it becausef I go all fucking in on crops. It’s insane how hard I go on crops dude. I like minmax crops.

I also have a beloved OC X Canon ship The YuzuWren. They have over 100 hours in my copy of 3oT. I’ll link to a post infodumping all about them when I write it!!

I also have an OC x Canon ship in SoS1 (The MistLand), but that one isn’t as special even if it’s just as developed (also they haven’t gotten married yet when The YuzuWren have. Roland’s taking it slow.) I’m also considering making an OC x Canon file in ANB for Felicia just to round out the 3DS games.

My only real DNI is please, for the love of god, do NOT bring up Stardew Valley to me or on my posts. I never have, and never will have any desire to ever play it, and I am exhausted for it being brought up every time someone discusses a series 20 years older than it. Also while minors are fine to follow here, please do not follow my main account. It’s nothing personal, I just don’t want minors on that account. Tumblr is the only social media I talk to people under 21-22 to begin with.

Other farm sims besides Stardew are okay, though! I will likely also discuss Fields of Mistria and Snacko on here! I’m also in desperate need to play Cult of the Lamb, but that’s more fitting for my main blog than here, lol.

Summary:

For the Takakura family, destiny is an ever-spinning wheel, pointing passionately in their direction with equal tides of joy and sorrow before ticking on to the next wishmaker. With their parents gone, twin brothers Kanba and Shouma live alone with their beloved little sister Himari, whose poor health cannot decline any further.

On the day Himari is given permission to temporarily leave the hospital, her brothers take her out to the aquarium to celebrate, where the family's supposed fate is brought forth with her sudden collapse. However, when Himari is inexplicably revived by a penguin hat from the aquarium's souvenir shop, the hand of fate continues to tick faithfully forward.

With her miraculous recovery, though, comes a cost: there is a new entity within her body, whose condition for keeping her fate at bay sends the boys on a wild goose chase for the mysterious "Penguin Drum." In their search, the boys will have to follow the threads of fate leading from their own shocking past and into the lives of other wishmakers vying for the Penguin Drum, all hoping to land upon their chosen destiny.

Propaganda:

Do you like weird artsy stuff? Do you love magical girls? How about weird, messed up character dynamics? Then boy oh boy, Mawaru Penguindrum is the show for you! The show starts out funny enough, but will quickly spiral into an intense and intricate plot, involving fate, the mafia, magical destiny-rewriting spells, and penguins. Which yes, before you ask, the funny penguins are in fact plot relevant.

Penguindrum isn’t really a show about all that stuff though, even though it is. It’s a very symbolic story, about living under the crushing heel of capitalism, and the quiet poison of the societally expected nuclear family dynamic. I could write an essay on each and every single one of the characters, as they’re all given a lot of depth and time to grow. Every character has their own baggage that, one way or another, ties back to someone else. Everyone in this show is connected in some way shape or form, and that’s really highlighted when everything starts to fall apart. Be warned: this show is NOT a light watch! If you’re the type of person who gets really into deciphering symbolism and creating your own meaning from pieces of media, then this show is for you!

It’s a very major plot point. This show is HEAVILY based off the 95 Tokyo Sarin Gas Attacks, so if content like that is triggering to you, tread lightly.

#E1: Are You Ok (You Yao)

Summary:

People from the modern world transmigrating into the ancient Chinese fantasy world has become a common and everyday occurrence that the royal court in the latter has decided to moderate them. If you’re a transmigrator, you must report your existence to Lou Zhu, the master of Best Tower. Once you pass his test and prove that you are indeed a modern person, you can then be assigned to work in different areas of the government and be given a high salary.

Because of this promised benefit, many impostors have showed up before Lou Zhu. And one day, Zuo Yunqi takes this test as well. Is he an impostor, or is he an actual modern person?

But some transmigrators also choose to hide their existence out of distrust in the government. Where are they? And with their advanced knowledge on science and technology, what are they planning in the dark?

Elsewhere, other transmigrators find themselves in all sorts of situations—an art student is detained and forced to come up with a recipe for a poisonous meal, while another is stuck sharing a body with the original soul and fighting for its control. Meanwhile, unrest rises in the Jianghu and a storm brews in the palace. Can our transmigrators’ modern knowledge save the day? Or will their lack of understanding in the current world lead to their downfall?

Propaganda:

Often in transmigration stories, the locals are portrayed as “backward” and “ignorant” to make the modern characters seem intelligent and progressive. The latter are then hailed as geniuses or pioneers, but in You Yao this isn’t the case. 

You Yao deconstructs the transmigration genre and explores its possibilities. The system that moderates the transmigrators really puts them in their place and curbs their arrogance. And when in Rome, do as the Romans do. No matter how “smart” they may be, they are still subjects of the Emperor.

Besides, modern knowledge doesn’t always prove to be useful. An educated man like Lou Zhu is considered illiterate because he cannot read Traditional Chinese. His assistant has to first translate them into Simplified 😂

Moreover, this world they’re in has elements of wuxia (martial arts with superpowers). How can a modern person who grew up in a safe environment protect oneself in such a setting? They can only ask the locals to protect them. 

So, transmigrators are not necessarily superior to the locals—which I like because it lets us look at the locals’ strengths and appreciate them as well. 

You Yao features an ensemble cast, by the way, and all of them, both locals and transmigrators, are endearing. There are also several canon BL couples, with each pair marking the different sub-plots of the show. Just don’t expect any explicit gay confirmation because it’s limited by Chinese censorship, after all. But even then, it managed to be as fruity as it could be (the S1 ED is literally an angsty love song about the second gay pairing).

In regard to setting, it’s a genius mix of ancient Chinese fantasy and modern technology. Best Tower looks like a traditional Chinese pagoda on the outside, but on the inside it’s like a mall, complete with different entertainment venues and even a milk tea shop! It even has an “elevator,” but since electricity hasn’t been invented yet, it’s just powered by different men (in fancy uniforms) on bicycles. 

You Yao is really creative in presenting what could happen when you forcefully mix the old and the new. This allows a lot of hilarious situations, but it also highlights the dichotomy of tradition and modernity, making viewers question which changes are actually good and bad.

Can the Emperor really be that benevolent when plenty of people with knowledge beyond his keep popping up? And how can all transmigrators be content in following this world’s backward laws? What happens when one side tries to dominate and eradicate the other?

You Yao may give off that silly sitcom vibe, but it’s actually so much more than that. I don’t wanna spoil anything, so all I can say is that it’s gonna make you laugh a lot, and once your guard is lowered it’s gonna sucker-punch you in the gut. Vote You Yao.

Completely loses his mind over you. Is the submissive type of yandere who would blindly do anything for you. Will love you unconditionally and never will think twice before hurting anyone who hurts. Never hurts you, because he would rather hurt himself through it. Treats you like royalty. Well you are his queen.

San was your silent classmate. You found him very hot when you saw him first. He kinda isolated himself, making his existence in the school almost unknown. But you always found the latter very interesting. Usually in class, you have caught him eyeing you a couple of times, but you didn't give it much of a thought as you always just gave him a sweet smile.

But who knew he would fall all the more for you whenever you gave him that smile. He wanted nothing but you in his arms. He couldn't stand anyone else near you so the only plan he had was to become close to you.

So when he came to you during recess to speak to you, it shouldn't have come out as a surprise for you but you were still shocked that the introverted kid finally decided to open up.

After talking to the latter for months, it was safe to say you both became too close. Unknowingly to you, you started developing immense feelings for him.

And San knew exactly what he was doing when he proposed to you and obviously you didn't reject him. And that's when San could finally say he accomplished his goals right? No, he wanted you to have nothing but him.

Soon all if your friends started to leave you out apparently because you were fake. You didn't understand anything until a friend of yours showed you the text messages between them and another person claiming that's you, and for your shock the whole conversation was fucked up.

And when you told your boyfriend about it, he was the sweetest person but the thought that ran in his mind was completely opposite.

So the next person he had to erase from your life was your life was your brother. Who was your only support for your whole life, since the death of your parents. He was the one you relied on your whole life.

So it was practically hard for San. So the only easy thing he could do was, Lock you up in his house forever. San definitely couldn't have thought of a better plan but what would he do if you protested

"Y/n-ah, I'm doing this because it's the best for you, you can't be so ungrateful. It's so mean, don't you think."

Once when you were furious, you lashed out at San and apparently not knowing what to do, San locked you up in his room for days. And didn't pay any attention to you for a whole week.

San was scary and was a monster whenever he was angry with you, you definitely couldn't believe it was really your San. Because the boy who you thought was so shy and quiet now would fuck you over his couch or any surface in his house.

Apparently after a few months, suddenly you found out you were pregnant and you couldn't believe it. You didn't have any option to escape now because you were forever trapped in his cage.

So apparently you could do nothing but accept the fate and give in to San. And San was over the moon to see your drastic change in behavior and let his normal side slip.

Well now you have no other way but to be with him happily.. But were you happy?

I think it was only at the end of the movie where Ranboo was killed. Did he realize that we did care for him. He thought we were trying to hurt him, to lead him to his demise. He thought we had it out for him, when in all reality, we were trying to do the latter(please tell me I used that word right).

We wanted to help him so, so bad, but in reality I think we wouldn't ended in a similar predicament near the end of the show. Hetch wouldve found a way to get him to a similar if not the same ending. Hetch was apart of the show, he was just as scripted as everyone else. I don't entirely think he was behind it ALL like I've seen a few people suggest before in chats and stuff. Though I do believe he was another puppet created by showfall. It makes sense if you think about it. I mean, like I've talked about last time; they probably wanted people to think Ranboo was okay so they didn't get TOO concerned. So they thought it was just like any other normal movie plot! The hero goes through some shit and then gets with a friend and everything's fine!

The entire series was manipulation tactic after manipulation tactic. They thought everything out. They made it look like we were helping when all we were doing was using Ranboo like a puppet and leading him closer to his own demise. Even IF Ranboo had listened to the audience and done the right code, I'd say that there's still a good 95% chance that he would've ended up with his life in the hands of the audience in some way or another. It was a part of the script. Every choice we made was given to us like answers on one of those tests where you color in the bubble. They chose which choices we could pick and chose what would happen after we picked. I believe that everything truly was scripted. Now, do I also think Hetch might've had those rose tinted glasses lifted for a while? Absolutely. However. I also believe that showfall used it to their advantage to make the show more interesting.

They might've lost control of the show for a few minutes, but I highly doubt they were dumb enough NOT to use an opportunity like that to make the show more interesting for the audience.

Ok so I can’t take credit for this one, because it was an observation a reactor made on YouTube, but I love how clearly nervous Jesper is in the deleted scene. When Jesper first makes a key out of coin for Kaz, it’s very detailed and near perfect. But when he makes one for Wylan it’s wonky and barley looks like a key. Even terrified that Kaz knows his secret, Jesper is able to make a very good key. But asking Wylan to move in with him? Nope. And I think that’s really sweet.

Yeah, I saw this point brought up as well. Given that the scene was deleted, it`s difficult to say to what degree 'nervous Jesper effs up his durast work' is canon. But it HAS been filmed, so as far as I`m concerned the point stands:) And yes, that`s really sweet indeed🥰

Let`s take a look at Case 1:

In the first pic (just after he learns Kaz has known about him being a Grisha for a while) Jesper looks mainly pissed and disgruntled. In the second one (after he makes the key out of a coin), the significant amount of hurt is added to the mix - yet there`s no worry or concern in his eyes. I think Jesper asks Kaz to keep his secret already being like 95% sure that he will; but there`s another point to consider here: in this scene Jesper uses his powers to get himself out of trouble (yes, Kaz probably would have helped him anyway but still) - just like he does many more times during both seasons. Yes, there is some reluctance in him to use them openly in front of Kaz but it`s quite superficial: Kaz already knows, and for Jesper using Grisha abilities during their heists and other shenanigans is already a routine thing.

And now to Case 2:

Here Jesper`s emotional state is way more complicated. In the first pic (after Wylan says Ketterdam has never really felt like home to him) Jesper`s visibly talking himself into doing what he`s pretty much already decided to do. In the second one, there`s still hesitation in him but it`s gradually getting replaced by warmth and fondness born from looking at Wylan - actually, I think Jesper has turned to look at him precisely to overcome his fears and doubts. And in the third one the key is already made - but hesitation in Jesper`s eyes is back.

The thing is that IMO in the deleted scene 90% of Jespers worries are not about the mere fact of him using his abilities but what he`s about to use them for. And it`s not even the hesitation that gets me choked here - it`s the vulnerability. Jesper has used his powers countless times, including several instances of him doing that openly in the last episodes. But in that moment he`s using them not to get out of trouble or gain some profit - he`s offering another person a part of his life, a part of himself. The key is not just a key - in a way it`s Jespers heart he`s giving to Wylan ("This is what I am, this is what I want to share with you"), hence his reaction to the latter failing to recognise what this is.

Actually, does Wylan really fail to understand what exactly Jesper is giving him? That's a topic for another post😉

can we get zalgo with an s/o that loves to push his buttons

Hello, I hope you enjoy this. I will write a follow-up post about what would happen to a pet he was toying with, or a SO that didn't learn. I assume you read my previous post about him, and thus know that I consider him an evil, cruel entity. TW: Unhealthy relationships, controlling lover, physical abuse mentioned (spanking), master/pet implied, possible greater danger, dominance, material deprivation, swear word (f...ing)

Be warned for this is a very risky game to play.

If you’re reading this, you’re very lucky to be his valued lover or at the very least a pet he cares about enough to keep around.

How do I know this? How can I be certain about your position when there are so many different roles a “significant other” could play? The answer is much simpler than some may imagine. Zalgo is a being that does not take disrespect. At the same time, he does not put so much “significance” to the label of SO as he loved toying with mortals. Fooling a mortal into thinking themselves to be special, letting them start to get cocky, and punishing them for their misbehavior is something this Demon Lord calls a hobby.

Now, he typically does not fool mortals into thinking they can be his lovers. Instead, he loves to make them feel bold and powerful – rich beyond all human means for a price that would even make the Gods shiver. But let’s not get off the train track, at least not for now.

Back on topic – how would Zalgo be with a Signiant other that pushes his buttons? As mentioned before there are layers to a relationship you could have with him.

If you’re his lover, someone he truly cared about you will get to keep living. Though this behavior of yours will not be tolerated. A lover will experience lighter punishments. All intended to show that he always gets his way.

This would include mocking you, forcing you into humiliating situations, or simply reminding you of how strong and powerful he is compared to you. Yes, the latter will hurt. Either way, if Zalgo is in love with you, he will first stick with responses he considers to be “soft”. He wants to scare you. He needs you to remember your place, but he does not want that disobedience to disappear.

Nor does he want to break you.

It is a very lovely opportunity for him to mold you.

At the same time, it does show that you have a certain level of comfort that is to his liking.

Hopefully, you will begin behaving in a proper manner. Mostly obedient. Some rare misbehavior would be acceptable.

On the other hand, if you keep up with it, or get more passionate about being naughty you will be in trouble. You will start losing your privileges – clothes, food, and daily comforts. Naughty ones don’t get to be treated like royalty.

He knows that he has to educate his lovers in a sense and assert his dominance and control. He expects you to play along like his little adorable cutie. And yet here you are, being such a fucking brat.

Try pulling anything around his underlings, and he will ensure you’re neither able to stand nor sit. That bottom of yours will get the harshest spanking imaginable. He has an image to uphold.

And while yes, he is willing to be “softer” with you in private, and while he certainly does treat you will a lot more care than he would to a toy, he still expects himself to be the big bad wolf, while you’re his good scared cute bunny.

Zalgo will never go all the way with his punishments if you are his lover. Hopefully, you will learn quickly to limit that button-pushing behavior. Stick to that sweet spot of being his good little lover 95% of the time, and a naughty but adorable brat for that final 5% and he might even start letting you get away with it

Especially if you claim it was to get his attention and because you want to get punished, that will spark a lot of passion in this one. Though, it may not be in the way you would like.

Keep at it, get worse, and refuse to learn and he might lose that love. In which case, you’re in danger.

So wardens we know basically interact one another? I wonder what the relationship on the prisoners to one another like.

Sorry, Anon, it took ages to reply, because we once again wanted to think this through, because with such a huge cast the possibilities for interactions are endless 😭 Just like with my reply from yesterday, I’ll talk about the ones that come to mind!

But yes, the wardens interact with each other: some are closer to each other, some interact very rarely. The Heartslabyul group interacts with each other, since they often patrol different spots of the same big area, the “1st year” group also tend to interact, because all of them are newbies: sometimes they sit together during lunchtime. Kalim is friendly with everyone, but he also spends a lot of time with Silver: they work around the same area too. If Vil and Epel are wardens, they obviously interact a lot; and if Rook is a warden, he talks to literally everyone, both fellow wardens and prisoners. If he had to pick one friend from all the guards, he would pick Trey.

Idia and Ortho are pretty separated from others, especially Idia, but Ortho also doesn’t get to interact with others too often, because he usually accompanies Idia (who sits in his booth 95% of the day). That being said, whenever Ortho gets to hang out with other wardens, he becomes the center of attention very quickly. These two interact with Riddle and Rook most often: Riddle because he always nags about Idia doing his job wrong, Rook because he says “good morning” and “good night” to Idia every day at the start and end of his shift, completely startling him.

So it’s pretty similar to how they tend to group in-canon.

Sooo, now about the inmates!

The majority of them aren’t too friendly with each other, the most sociable being Ruggie (because he does business), Rook if he’s an inmate (and he drives everyone crazy with how nosey he is), and Lilia. The latter two don’t really have friends though: they are too creepy, people try to stay away from them.

When Floyd is in prison, he also gets chatty too sometimes, but only when there is someone who interests him. It’s usually Riddle, but it could be any prisoner really. Maybe Vil or Epel, because I’m biased, and because Floyd seems to like it when they go apeship lol

Vil and Epel interact a lot if they are inmates; with Epel basically being under Vil’s heel/wing (depends on how you look at it). Other than that, both of them seem to be surprisingly friendly with Lilia, but they always talk to him separately. Vil just considers Lilia to be someone who is, despite his extreme playfulness, still has some class and maturity, and Vil respects that. And Epel feels like he could learn a lot from Lilia, even though Lilia doesn’t seem to treat him seriously at all, preferring to startle him, tease him and even make fun of him sometimes for trying to look big and manly. But in a playful way~

Jamil talks to everyone and no one, it’s difficult to explain how he acts, but he doesn’t form any close friendships with the characters from the cast. He does have plenty of opinions about them though. If he was honest, he would criticize pretty much every single one of them for one reason or another rather ruthlessly lol

2023 WIP cleanout

a couple years ago i did a major WIP cleanout and it was very satisfying, and i've been bummed out lately so i'm doing it again to cheer myself up.

i have about 200k worth of unposted/unfinished fic, and i'd like to make a decent dent in that. when i listed out my WIPs i was surprised to find that most of them i'd written past the 50% mark and for whatever reason, the fic went an unanticipated direction. instead of fixing it, i moved on. the problem is that usually the unanticipated direction is something cool and that i want to pursue, but would make the fic longer and more complicated than i want it to be, and more work than i want to put into it. once i get enough distance from a fic, it's a lot easier to see how to get it back on track.

there are many things i set down and never think about again, but if it sticks in my head for longer than a couple months, then i know i need to come back to it eventually.

so this is my accountability thread! and i'm going to lay out the steps i took to triage these fics and get them posted, in case it helps anyone struggling with the same problem.

this one is what inspired the cleanout, and as of yesterday it is DONE and POSTED. for the longest time it sat at about 7k when i knew it would be 10k, and i couldn't make myself write the last 3k because somehow it turned into a threesome fic with Gale and it took me a loooong time to let go of that idea. also, it required a lot of canon knowledge, which faded the longer i kept it on the backburner.

Lumine/Razor, Genshin Impact

started April 2021

this is an alternate beginning to genshin where the traveler finds Razor instead of Paimon. it stalled out at 5k because i wanted it to be rated M and i also wanted the characters to get all the way to Liyue, but both of those things were far more work than i wanted to put into it. so now it'll be rated G and end when they reach Mondstadt. i don't anticipate it will be more than 7k.

Before the Suns Rise

Anakin/Padme/Obi-Wan, Star Wars

started June 2022

this one is nearly 45k and about 95% done. i set it down because 1) i got to the threesome part and writing threesomes is hard, 2) i hadn't watched the Clone Wars or Rebels yet and so i was self-conscious about my knowledge of canon, and 3) i got distracted by Lemon.

another thing that a lot of these WIPs have in common is that they're very closely tied to canon and therefore have Plot and even though i can do Plot, i find it exhausting and a little tedious.

this is a post-Vader, alt-OWK timeline fic. in the 20+ star wars fics i've written, only 5 of them are in any way related to canon, and they're all one-shots. so this one is going to be hard.

i anticipate it'll only take 5k to finish, for a total of 50k and 14 chapters.

Seungho/Nakyum, Painter of the Night

this is my Patreon AU that's over 10k already. in it, Seungho is married to Jihwa (and cheating on him with Nakyum) and i wanted to write the whole thing through to their divorce (and Seungho Getting A Real Job), but that is just. a lot. so i'm going to write only to Seungho finally giving in to his feelings for Nakyum, with the knowledge that after season 4 is finished, i may want to continue it as a series and write the latter half as i'd intended.

i'll probably only add 1-2k, for a total of 12k.

started November 2022

this was the first rexsoka fic i started working on when i finished Clone Wars. i got about 10k in, scrapped it, wrote another 15k, scrapped it, and then started focusing on Organic Chemistry. also, i just got very frustrated with it. to fix this one, i think i need to lower my expectations of it, rearrange some plot points, and write the final 2-3 scenes.

maybe 3-4k more? hopefully it'll cap out under 20k.

Deep Below Ground - Part 1: Prologue.

Peterson Residence, October 7th 1996:

"Ivan, I need a report on Enzo's whereabouts, now!"

"I'm sorry Mari, it's still a negative, from him, from Trinity, it's just us left."

Maritza ended the talk on the radio, it's horrible, everyone's getting picked off one by one. "What are we gonna do?" Finch asked her, Mari didn't know what to tell her aside from the usual "We move forward."

The duo continue to trek through the old home, it's insides twisted by mechanical contraptions built to barricade, capture, and whatever other madness could be done to those who dared to step foot inside. In the case of Mari and the Rescue Squad however, stepping inside is a necessary sacrifice.

They must find them, save them.

"Found something."

Mari turned over to Finch, she was looking through a built in map on one of the cameras "There's a way to unlock the hatch in the backyard, it's all the way upstairs though." He pointed out. "Upstairs? Enzo went up there and never came back!" Mari exclaimed, prompting Finch to note "And Trinity disappeared while she was downstairs, none of this house is safe from traps."

Finch made the first move with Mari catching up from behind, she was peaking through the corners surrounding the stairs "We're good, let's move." He said, the duo began to move faster, not taking any chances. Maritz ran further ahead from Finch, bat in hand, ready to take on whatever is coming-

SLAM

Maritza falls forward, her face slamming to the floor, she turned back to see a metal gate, sealing her and Finch from each other. "Wha- What happened?!" She screamed "I-I don't know! W-We must've tripped a sensor or-"

"Mari?"

Maritza stood in fear, her eyes widened in terror, all she could do was point behind Finch. The latter turned to see him, Peterson.

"GO!" Finch screamed at Maritza.

"B-BUT I-"

"GO!-"

Maritza ran and ran, only peaking behind once, she saw Finch struggling to escape from Peterson. Mari felt horrible, she didn't want to leave Finch behind but she had no choice, she couldn't have saved her. The girl manages to jump into a nearby room, shutting the door and blocking it with a chair, she sat on the floor to breathe.

She looked around the room to see what it was, the walls were lined with old blueprints, there were posters in different languages, seemingly promoting something. She took a closer look at them one by one, these were remnants, all from attractions.

This was Peterson's workshop.

She looked around the room to see if there was anything useful she could use, tools, papers, anything that could help. Maritza looked through every drawer in the room, all a bunch of legal nonsense and paperwork, however, something did caught her attention.

There on the desk was a picture frame of the Petersons, the picture frame was cut and the picture itself vandalized by various scribbles and written words. Aaron's picture crossed out with the words "CURSED", Mrs. Peterson was scribbled with "I'M SORRY", and Mya... Mya's was riddled with numbers that read "8/9/95".

Near the photo, a sticky note.

"Remember what he did, remember where you hid it, remember why your still here in the first place."

Maritza scratched her head over the note, she looked around to see what else she could find, then she noticed one of the picture frames. The picture frame itself was nothing to special, it was just a painting of a bird, a crow or raven of sorts, but it was tilted and Maritza was getting desperate. "God please let this be a spy thing where if I turn it, it'll-"

The photo itself fell to the floor but that didn't matter.

She found a safe, with a keypad.

Maritza looked back at the picture "Here goes nothing." She bluntly told herself, typing in 8995, and it worked. Inside was a single remote labeled "Hatch Pulley." This was it, the key to unlock the hatch.

Right in time too, she could hear the footsteps outside.

Maritza quickly looked around for an exit and unfortunately there's only one, the window. She quickly opened up the window and climbed out, trying her damn hardest to stay as close to the wall as possible until she found the nearby balcony. After making a small jump, she opened the door slowly and saw Peterson rushing into the room she was just in, taking the opportunity, she ran out and downstairs, heading outside.

Now in the backyard with the remote in hand, she presses the button, the hatch slowly being lifted up, she wasted no haste and jumped down below.

Inside was a tunnel, two ways, the first one blocked off by a bunch of furniture, the other one was a boarded pathway, she broke off said boards with her bat and walked through a small corridor, which ended with a metal door with another keypad. Tempting fate, Maritza typed the same code from last time, a beeping sound played and the door opened up.

She wasn't ready to see what was inside.

Laid out in the dirt was a small carpet, small flower pots stood by it and is surrounded by candles, above it a small shelf with the same items alongside small toys, one a doll, Mya's doll. Next to the doll is a cropped out picture of Mya and above the shelf is a cropped out picture of Mya from her missing poster.

Maritza covered her mouth in a sense of disbelief, did Peterson... no... not his own daughter... not Mya.

"No! No! NO!" Maritza screamed, her voice sounding almost anguished "Please no, please no!" She screamed to herself as she fell to her knees. Maritza looked over at the monument and as she kept staring at it for longer periods of time, her eyes began to blur, her mind was screaming.

She doesn't want this to be a grave.

But there was no time for grief.

She heard a loud bang and turned.

BANG

Maritza fell to the floor, her eyes beginning to blur, her body weakening.

The last thing she saw was a shovel shoved to the ground, covered in blood.
