I wish I could say that Iām still recovering or that I got swamped at work or even that I havenāt been feeling up to it, but the truth is
I got a BADASS new laptop (rog zephyrus) and Iāve been playing with it.
Im ready to get back to work Nomae Nation!
Hereās some updates and the shit I got in my creative queque:
Chapter Five of TPG: Iāve written two chapters in Noaās perspective so Iām really taking my time editing this chapter to make sure I follow the rules Iāve established for ape English.
I am going to commit to bi-weekly updates for TPG. My goal is still weekly, but I only want to formally commit to something I KNOW I can stick to.
The first installation of We Name Them All Nova: AFAIK this is the first Novelius (I tried Cornova but it just makes me think of corn on the cob) fic ever so I want it to be brilliant. The jury is split on if we want it to be tragic or lighthearted. The first can go either way. This will be a short series with a definitive conclusion, but each arc will mostly be able to stand on its own.
This one will be third person semi-omniscient!
Social Media AU: Like most of Nomae Nation, I was entranced by the trailer of āBetter Manā that features a man-chimp and even has a short clip of said man-chimp dancing with a lady. It has inspired a new world in my head: one where humans and (non-human) apes do live side by side and even star in films togetherā¦
I donāt know when Iāll get around to this tbh just putting it on my radar
More Composites: I have a few more that need cleaning up. And yes, the bridge pic I posted was a completely different pose than the one I had been teasing. It was just a case of I have been looking at this so long that it no longer looks like a Real Thing.
now have a system capable of rendering 3D. I may experiment with thatā¦
Preparation for Nomae week in Noavember! DO NOT FORGET
As always, I love you all and hope you have a WONDERFUL DAY!

APE ENGLISH RAMBLE PART I
The first rule of ape english is that the rules are fluid. This is partially for realism and partially because I cannot be expected to keep up with all of these rules even though I created them. My mind is not big enough.
You will notice a slight discrepancy in the spoken dialogue of the apes and Noaās inner monologue; there are some non-diegetic reasons for this that Iāll be covering, but in-universe it is still physically uncomfortable for the apes to speak for long periods of time, despite the fact they have an understanding of language just as complex as modern humans at this point. The workarounds are regional; Eagle Clan would supplement with sign language, but the Coastals will speak to the point of vocal injury Iām derailing nevermind
Limited physiology is the main thing that governs the conventions of ape english. So, this dialect prioritizes two things; brevity and precision, the latter being the more important, because having to repeat or explain yourself is worse than adding on a few additional words for clarity. With that in mind, letās get into it.
Warning: this doesnāt actually make sense
Exclusions/Omissions
There are two unwavering, hard and fast rules to ape english; NO ADVERBS, NO CONTRACTIONS. Let me explain-
Why no adverbs? I should clarify that I mean adverbs of degree or manner, which typical[ly] end in -ly (with the exception of only. They say this a lot.).
The -ly ending involves both a liquid consonant and a vowel glide, a structure that requires vocal dexterity unique to humans. Just as it is depicted in the films, the apes have an intense pharyngeal intonation that is just not capable of pulling off those delicate, flowing sounds, at least not with ease.
Not to mention, I think most of the time they are unnecessary. In cases where it would be necessary to utilize one (such as the example below; where the distinction between how much fur an āechoā would have opposed to an ape) you would just drop the -ly. I do this a few times, sparingly.
From a white sheet, a limp arm thick and dusted light [not lightly] with fur flops with each step between them.
Why no contractions? Saying ādonātā is a hell of a lot quicker and easier than saying ādo notā. No it isnāt is not! As I said, they value precision over all else. Contractions involve a complex mechanism of dropping syllables, compressing vowels, merging consonantsā¦this all involves fine motor control and itās way easier just to round out those harsh consonants with the āoā.
Alright, moving on to some omissions that are utilized in a looser sense.
95% of the time, I will substitute fragmented sentence structure for actual article omissions in internal monologue to maintain the archaic feel. I have no real justification for this other than constant article omission is pretty much unreadable. I wrote a draft like this and it might as well have been reading oo oo ah ah.
However, subject/pronoun omission is much more tolerable! Particularly when referring to oneās self using (or not using) āIā. For example, it is always acceptable to drop the āIā when introducing oneself or describing oneself using āamā.
āAm Noa,ā I say.
I should not be nervous. Am not nervous - for myself.
This is acceptable because the use of āamā is sufficient for conveying that youāre referring to yourself. Who else would you be referring to? In the second case, we also have āIā in the preceding sentence, and itās proximity to the next one is more than enough. Hereās another example of an acceptable pronoun omission;
āMotherās voice hums through the wood of our home. Cannot hear what she says. Must be beckoning him back to rest.ā
In the second sentence, its implied well enough that he is the one who cannot hear what she says, BUT even if that was missed, itās not particularly important in the context of the sentence to understand WHO cannot hear her, just that she cannot be heard. The third sentence can omit the pronoun "she" because it directly follows two sentences where the subjectāthe motherāhas already been established.
āāāāāāāIt isā can be streamlined to just āisā in most cases. āItā can be implied from context, especially when the sentence follows a clear reference to what "it" refers to.
Is alright. Raka says it makes me look tough.
Is no oneās fault. Is only the way things are.
Hereās an example of when it would not be acceptable:
The way is narrow so that only two can walk side by side. [I] fall behind, lost in the cavern of my mind.
āIā is critical in this sentence because this sentence transitions to a whole new action, and the preceding sentence has a different subject. And no, āmyā in the same sentence doesnāt count because itās a possessive pronoun, it doesnāt indicate anything about who is performing the action.
Dropping expletives is also fine in most cases.
āThen is the hilly meadow,ā vs āThen there is the hilly meadow.ā An expletive like āthereā adds nothing to the sentence other than some structure, and the apes are not particularly worried about that.
Keep in mind these do not have to be omitted; theyāre often not! It all depends on the cadence and the contextual continuity.
Confused? Me too. In the next installment Iāll go over sentence structure and vocabulary. So much parataxis!!!!

Another Worldbuilding Post: Origins of the Primus Game
Iāve got some exciting projects in the works, but meanwhile, hope you enjoy this ramble.
Iām going to be going over the origins of the Primus Game and a very rough timeline of the formation of Pacifica based mostly on connections already made in the text. My reiterating of the existing lore will be minimal. These are very easy to miss because of the serialized nature of the story and the limited perspective of the characters. Dear Proxy will be showing up soon, so Iāll expand a bit more on his origin as well!
First, the non-diegetic origin of The Primus Game. Well, the name at least.
Itās probably obvious (and a little on the nose) that Primus = Primate because apes. But, BUT I also wanted to name the story something that would play on the existing titular irony of the Planet of the Apes. Earth is already a planet of apes, humans are also primates. The game is half humans and half apes. Thatās pretty much it.
The diegetic origin of The Primus Game.
To explain this properly Iāll go into the naming convention of Proximusā heritage. As stated in the prologue, Proximus Caesar is āthe scion of the scion before him.ā
āCaesarā is used a bit like it was post Augustus - Ancient Rome; as both a surname and imperial title. So, any ape in this lineage could colloquially be referred to as āCaesarā or āaā Caesar, the first name is what distinguishes them. The original scion, the founder of the kingdom, was known as Pacificus Caesar, though he prioritized his title as āThe Scionā during his lifetime.
(Pacificus = Peacemaker in Latin. That is why the military/police force are called peacemakers as opposed to peacekeepers)
Our original Caesar ^ (whom the Coastals revere as a Moses/Messiah figure) did not have a first name. In most contexts, such as in the sacred scrolls, he doesnāt need one to be recognized. In contexts where it would be necessary to distinguish him, he would be known as Primus Caesar. Primus meaning āfirstā in Latin.
So, The Primus Game was named after Caesar! Keep in mind that the Game is more of an elaborate blood sacrifice than spectacle (though that does factor in, will get to it later). As stated many times, itās supposed purpose is to purge the inherit bloodthirst of those apes that drifted from Caesar and were āchangedā because of this. I really enjoyed the aspect of KOTPOA that explored the bastardization of religious/spiritual teachings and I wanted to weave this in somehow. Not only are apes forced to kill eachother, but as Mae observed in Chap two, itās common and almost tradition for them to immediately kill their human counterpart to get them out of the way. Caesar would love that!
And no, itās not a mark against the Coastals. Ape shall not kill ape? Theyāre not killing anyone, just forcing them to kill one another!
I am getting off track. Letās talk about timeline!
So, the bloodsport known as the Primus Game is actually only twenty five years old, as stated in Chapter Three: āthis Quarcentennial forthā¦ā It was founded by Proximus Caesar, whoās predecessor was assassinated during the Darkest Chapter. The bloodsport involving each clan sending an echo (human) slave as tribute to the Capital (Coastal City) is much much older, almost as old as the formation of Pacifica itself.
How old is Pacifica you may ask? I donāt have a real solid answer to that other than itās old.
I donāt plan on revealing a specific number of years because
1. I think itās sort of a boring way to engage with it! Iāve never really liked those sort of fandom theories that are obsessed with connecting/drawing timelines down to hyper-specific dates/times. The average ape in Pacifica couldnāt tell you how old it is. Take the āRock of Legends Lostā of Chap one; the legend has been lost to conquest for so long that that has become its own legend.
B. I donāt know, havenāt thought of it, and donāt want to write myself into a corner or inevitably contradict it. :)
The strongest indicator of timeline I plan on giving, at least in this installation, is from this early paragraph of Chapter One:
āToday, I will face two rites; tomorrow, I will be changed. One has become a celebration of the otherās passage: the reaping. The one forced by the Coastals. Once, we had our own traditions untouched by them. Well, this is what the elders say the elders before them said. I have never known this time. ā
Did you catch that? The elders of Noaās generation say the elders of their generation were the last to know a time when their traditions were untainted by the Coastals. And it never explicitly states that the elders themselves participated in these traditions, just that they āknewā this time.
So with that in mind, considering at least six generations have passed between that inferred time and the present, and assuming apeās lifespans are now comparable to humans, Pacifica is no less than 150 years old, but it is likely closer to 200+ years old.
Now, you may ask how a coming of age tradition like the Bonding became associated with an event as dreadful as the reaping. (Nobody is asking but Iām going to tell you anywaysā¦.in another future post. Stay sat!) weāll talk more about the cultural assimilation of the clans under Pacifica.
As always, thank you for reading my insanity! I adore you all!
