Jem: Some loves are not made to accompany each other as much as we wish, but I am sure that I loved him as much as I could, and he loved me back in his own way with all of him. But, I never managed to tell him in wath way I loved him. I didn't know it myself.

Mina: Can't you tell him now? Maybe you can call him.

Jem: Every day I try to remind him, maybe one day I will be able to hear his answer.

i was minding my business working on an essay and i suddenly remembered that will is never going to hold mina in his arms or play with her, he’ll never be present in her life like jem (as brother zachariah) was with james and lucie. he would’ve loved mina so much. and jem and tessa will live the rest of their lives without will ever being there again. will’s random demon pox singing, his hilarious poetry, they’ll only ever be a memory. will herondale will never live with a healthy jem carstairs. i’m shattered

modern day wessa headcanon at a taylor swift concert 👀

i can't help but feel like will would be a bigger taylor fan than tessa would. but tessa would have the plan based on will's interest as to when to grab merch, purchase refreshments, go to the bathroom, etc. not that will isn't a strategist, ofc, but i think if it weren't for tessa's practicality, he would forget all bodily functions and just lose himself in the revelry and the artistry. even though will is the bigger fan, they both have most if not all of the lyrics memorized, and much of the concert ends up being concentrated between the two of them, especially from will's side. he can't help it. a love song makes him think of tess tess tessa and he looks at her and holds her hand and serenades her with that goofy smile of his. when taylor sings songs like the archer and will's heart plummets, tessa holds onto him. and when she sings songs that remind them of grief and jem, the two hold onto each other <3

as requested, here is your will and jem headcanon <3

i can only imagine that considering jem was destined to die quite early, he had a little bucket list of things he wanted to do before he eventually died

and will being will found this hidden in jem’s room

he took note of what things jem wanted to do and he just started to slowly tick off things

will didn’t want jem to notice will was taking him out to do these things on purpose… more like a happy coincidence

but jem, as we know, is quite observant, and he seemed to notice a pattern in the places will would take him, the foods will would make him try, the books will would give him 

so jem would tick off the things on his list, and add new ones, leaving the list in the same spot for Will to look at. 

eventually it turned into a “let’s see how many will can force jem to do in a year” challenge

sometimes, will would smash out three things in one day, which would leave jem to retire to his bedroom for a week

on jem’s slower days, will would try and do the more quieter wishes, like sitting by the fire together while jem teaches will how to play wei qi 

either way, they both enjoyed how it made them even closer and it also gave them ideas of things to do on their days off

neither of them spoke about the bucket list. it ruined the whole fun of it. after all, they were just two parabatai having fun together, right?

viltau does get fussy over his friends' wellbeing, however he tends to be a lot more hands-off with velour because he thinks vel is overdramatic with the things he frets over and needs a reality check or someone with a level head + an ability to make a plan more than anything else

he's also a lot less inclined to fret over jamie as well because he knows jamie Fucking Hates That and can handle himself fine... but vil is also very much not immune to 'i told you so'-ing him if he does something stupid that vil knew was probably going to end in disaster. in fact he relishes in it because hes a catty bitch

tomorrow is gabriel lightwood birthday! do you mind sharing some hc of him?

his birthday is now yesterday (my apologies to both gabriel and you anon) but i think we can still celebrate with some hcs hehe

i think that once gabriel kinda found his own agency and started discovering the boundaries of his own morals and priorities, he also started finding other smaller ways to stake his claim on his own identity. and by small, i do mean slightly silly. like maybe there's a certain color tie that's very much not in style that he decided he loves and he wears it everywhere. idk just something to remind him that he can be his own person and that he can change yk?

less of a hc but i think this plays a lot into why his older children are both so much their own people. he never would have wanted to control how they viewed the world. given how cecily was raised, she would definitely feel similarly.

now that i'm on the topic of their family, i think gabriel would be a really playful dad. tossing kids up in the air, chasing them around.

he also takes the time to learn each kid's language in a way that helps them communicate and feel understood, which i think points to his aptitude for the teaching parts of parenting as well.

semi-related, i feel like his love language(s) is definitely more quality time and physical touch than any of the rest.

in fact i think he's so bad at gift giving that it's endearing. he's good at meaningful gestures, but only when the situation happens naturally. when it has to be planned and intentional tho.. like cecily's birthday will come up and he'll be at such a loss that anna got used to buying her mom an extra present with her dad in mind, and usually it's just the kind of thing he would have gotten cecy.

and speaking of birthdays.. happy belated to our beloved brat hehe <3

London, January 1894.

My tea companion is pale, too worn. Without an insistent landlady, he has been working too hard, and at all hours without taking rest to compensate. And still the shadow of grief on his face.

“You noticed perhaps, the new addition to my quarters?”

“The great box on the wall. Mr Holmes?” My guest enquires carefully. He knows me well, knows my likely reaction.

“Yes...” I sigh, perhaps a little more deeply than is true “It is one of those infernal Bell devices. My brother will have told you that I am sometimes called on by the government?”

He nods assent.

“They insisted I have that,” I wave my hand towards the door, “installed so I may be more easily summoned, rather than loose the time needed to send a messenger. They've even managed to get one into the Diogenes.”

Dr Watson winces a little. “In the Stranger's Room, I presume?” He offers, speaking placatingly

“No; in the Lobby! Where the outside world must necessarily intrude on matters. Let people take calls there if they must take them.”

At that there is a shrill bell clearly audible even through the wood door of my sitting room.

My guest startles looking first around at the door, and then back at me, his eyes both wary and enquiring.

I hmph, and settle myself a little further into the chair, for .“Benson will answer it.”

Sure enough, I hear footsteps, and the ringing ceases. Then the footsteps stride towards our door, perhaps a little faster than usual. But then, today is the day. Benson knocks, and I call for him to enter.

“A telephone call, for Dr Watson, sir.”

Watson turns to look at Benson “For me?” He is incredulous, as well he might be. It is unlikely many of his patients are on the telephone

Benson dips his chin, just a quarter inch or so, “Indeed sir.”

Watson gets to his feet, inclines his head politely to me “If you will excuse me, Mr Holmes?”

I flick my fingers a little, giving the attitude that I am completely aghast at the need, but understand that he must go. Dr Watson strides out of the room with an army step, Benson at his heels. He does not hear my slipper shod feet pad to the doorway in his wake, so I may view the hallway. This I must see.

Benson is pointing and quickly explaining the means by which the telephone works, then he holds out the earpiece to Dr Watson. The Doctor takes it hesitantly, raises it to his ear and steps close to the mouthpiece. Benson retires swift foot to the doorway beside me.

“Dr John Watson speaking.”

A moment of stillness. Then all at once the Doctor goes whiter than paper, gasps, staggers; grabbing with a scrabbling hand at the little table besides the instrument, to support himself. He looks very much as if he will faint away. Benson tenses beside me, ready to run forward and support him.

Dr Watson gasps again, his shoulders shuddering with it, but he has his feet underneath him now. Again he makes a strange gasp, which isn't speech

Then he manages words, “If it is you, prove it. Tell me something only you would know about me.”

A sensible enquiry.

Whatever is said in answer, it brings a sudden scarlet flush to the Doctor's face, all the more noticeable versus his former pallor. Interesting, I am not a nosy person, but I had long had my suspicions about the depth of relationship between Dr Watson and my brother. Perhaps I was not at all wrong.

Doctor Watson swallows unsteadily “All this time... Are you well?”

My brother must answer in the affirmative, for Doctor Watson's posture eases a little. Then he speaks with a tenderness I saw in his eyes when Sherlock brought him to the Diogenes, “I'll be waiting, you know that.”

After a minute more he steps away from the box and hangs up the ear piece with more neatness than I have often managed. He leans on the table, resting heavily with one hand, while the other rises to cover his face, his shoulders shake, a little, and then more heavily. I draw back, touching Benson's shoulder in an instruction to come with me. We have intruded more than enough here, to stay watching now would be beyond rudeness.

Question me as you will, Watson. I will answer what I can. I only hope you understand and do not hate us for the deception.
