Thinking about how Céline Herondale was buried at a crossroads instead of given a proper Shadowhunter funeral because she killed herself, but VALENTINE MORGENSTERN got the whole shebang- funeral, burned, ashes presumably brought to the bone city.

This whole „Herondales love but once” thing is strange with Stephen Herondale cause he loved Amatis but got brainwashed by Valentine to divorce her, so my question is:

Did he never truly loved Amatis that much or was he in reality in love with Valentine? 😭🫡🙌

Imogen Herondale being the only one who recognized Jace's birthmark was so significant to me, because she just knew. She hardly denied it. She was the first person who knew Jace was a Herondale and she only told him that his dad(Stephen) would be proud of him. Because although he might find out his true heritage later, he might not get to hear those words from any of his actual relatives if Imogen died, and he would consider others are lying. That was more important.

on my tmi reread I actually cried during that moment. I was so excited for it and it left me thinking about Imogen for longer than normal. She lived most of her life grieving and ice-cold because her family had been ruined. She was alone and only in her final moments she got to know that the Herondale name will live on after her. She got to look at her grandson properly. I can't imagine the regret she must've felt when she realized she'd been against him the whole time, not caring one bit about him.

For every woman in Valentine’s Circle that had kids/a kid, Valentine took one of their sons. Almost immediately after his birth, he stole Jace from his mother and a little latter he stole his own son from Joyce. He ended up raising both of them, while poisoning their minds to see themselves as weapons and to believe love was bad. You might think that this isn’t true, because Maryse and Robert Lightwood were in the Circle, and Valentine never took Alec. You’re right. Alec was spared because another son - his little brother - was taken in his place. And even though Jonathan was the one to kill him, the battle plans for the Mortal War were planned by Valentine, and Jonathan was Valentine’s weapon at this point.

Jocelyn Morgenstern, Celine Herondale and Maryse Lightwood were all members of the Circle. Jonathan Morgenstern, Jace Herondale and Max Lightwood were all taken from their mothers because of Valentine.

Jace Herondale but his parents didn't die.

And he grew up in a house, not a home, cause he would clearly end up hating Stephen cause Stephen can't look at Jace without feeling bad.

Stephen loves Jace as his son but hates what Jace represent for him, so he tries to not spend too much time in that house. He's always out, with Valentine or just in the garden, he just needs to be out of those claustrophobic walls

and Jace grows up with his mom that tries her best to let Jace have a good childhood but she's still finding out herself how to be a decent mom since her parents suck and at the same time she tries to protect Jace from that father absence.

Celine tries to defend Stephen, but Jace still ends up hating his father for not loving his mother and hating his mother for still loving his father

so that house ends up being full of hate

Celine cries herself to sleep almost every night and Jace hates seeing her like that and so he hates Stephen for making his loved mom cry, but what Jace doesn't understand is that what makes Celine cry is the fact that Jace and Stephen really don't seem to be able to even be in the same room. And Stephen hates being the one that makes Celine, Jace and Amatis suffer

Jace is full of anger, Celine is full of sadness and Stephen is about to go crazy and loose his mind

one time Stephen tried to tell Jace "When you'll be older you'll meet a girl and you'll love her like you loved no one"

Jace: "Just like you and Amatis"

Stephen: "..."

Stephen: "You'll understand, eventually"

and when Jace meets Clary Stephen says "I told you you'd meet a girl you'd do anything for" and what Jace responds is " Yes, cause I'd rather choose to die than marry someone that's not her"

I hope Stephen & Amatis had an affair while he was married to Celine actually.

Considering she consented to Valentine breaking them up for her just so she could have Stephen, I condone them cheating entirely.

I hope Stephen made it clear to Celine he didn't and would never love her, she deserves it after the way she ruined his happy 1st marriage and thought so little of Amatis for not being "pretty enough" for him.

I refused to feel old 14 before my birthday so I drew Max around 6-8 years old instead of 14.

As for Celine......😐

I don't like her, but did try to look for references and double check for her description. There are not that many illustrations about her, so I trusted Cassandra Jean's work.

In Defense of Celine Herondale

Some of you guys are way too hard on her. She was a literal child who was abused her entire life. Valentine knew this and took advantage of it. He offered to give her exactly what she wanted (Stephen) and of course she said yes. She was 17 and very desperate for love. Does that excuse what she did? No. She still hurt Stephen and Amatis. Was she old enough to have known better? Probably. But does it give some very important context to her choices? Yes.

I'm not trying to insinuate that she's innocent in this situation or the sole victim, but I don't agree with the amount of hate some people throw at her. Stephen, Amatis, and Celine all were hurt in some way and it honestly wasn't fair to any of them. But making Celine out as a homewrecker and nothing else is also unfair.

Side note: I don't know how common this opinion actually is, but I thought I'd just give my 2 cents anyway even though nobody asked.

Circle fic

Ok, but imagine it’s summer circa 1983, Stephen’s ‘borrowing’ a couple cars from his family, and after sneaking out of the Academy (they are getting at least 2 months of detention because Michael tripped and got caught) Stephen provided Mundane clothes to fit in- Jean jackets, high rise jeans, neon sneakers, some awful floral board shorts that Michael insists are totally cool- fast cars (Stephen can’t drive for shit and Hodge is clutching his pearls) hair in the wind, contraband mundane music blasting in the speakers as the sun rises and they’re booking it to the nearest city.

Their first time in malls, roller rinks, neon signs, someone (Stephen) accidentally orders a margarita, Waywood plays pinball a little too close, Maryse fights a photo booth, the girls dare each other to get neon hair dye and lipstick (banned in the Academy), Valentine hates frostees, Amatis gets to be a teenage girl for once, Luke gets a really bad brain freeze, Valentine also hates soda, Robert is sick and tired^TM, Celine is laughing for once and cries silently on the way home because she doesn’t want to go home when her family is them, Hodge is also sick and fucking tired and they keep making him try on new clothes, Valuke get a little too close in the dark of a lasar tag game, Robert and Maryse take the game WAY too seriously.

They get home and all get their ass handed to them but it’s alright because they’ll see each other tomorrow and laugh about it. Even Robert.

Imagine all the fun they could have had before it went to shit, when they were all just kids before hate filled ideas fueled by the bigotry and insidious ideas of the shadowhunter culture and Clave became part of their life. The circle wasn’t an outlier, all shadowhunters have these same prejudices, even in TMI as subtle as they are, and unfortunately they were just a group of lost, broken kids who didn’t have anyone to tell them this isn’t right and took it way too far. No excuses for them, but shame on the Clave for letting something like that happen, and shame on them for sweeping it under the rug instead of fixing the problem from the root. That’s a whole other rant, maybe I’ll get into it in another post.
