remembered jem saying this to will and nearly fell to my knees because what do you MEAN . what do you mean the soulmatism is so strong even death couldn’t keep you apart . the unbelievable amount of love pouring out of jem’s words, the surety, you are not lost to me. the sheer amount of MISSING . the implicit : come back to me.

Gabriel Lightwood, alone in a house with his father going mad, heartbroken at his brother leaving him, trapped by the Consul's blackmail, unable to let anyone know. Cecily Herondale, losing both her siblings in a matter of days, growing up alone and having to learn to repair the cracks left behind by her brother leaving, being angry at him for not thinking their family was worth it, unable to let anyone know. Sophie Collins, only a servant, her only wish to be a Shadowhunter being one which can never come true because she has a debt to repay, in love with a man with whom it can never work out, unable to let anyone know. Charlotte Branwell, her only desire to influence and help and protect being mocked and crushed by men, in love with a man that looks at her as a friend, unable to let anyone know. Henry Branwell, knowing things work different than what he's been taught, knowing he is right but cannot possibly explain and will always be laughed at as insane, in love with a woman that married him for convenience, unable to let anyone know.

The Infernal Devices understood loneliness like no other book I've read, the bone deep sense of being utterly alone even when surrounded by people.

this took so long to finish you can see my style changing halfway through lol. it was super fun trying to include subtle family resemblances

artist notes: - ty's eyes are the same color as tessa's - lucie and livvy have the same hair color, while the rest of the brunette blackthorns have tessa’s hair - ash has sebastian’s coloring but clary/jocelyn’s features - alec, anna, and kit have the same blue eyes as will and cecily, but i actually picture kit's eyes to be lighter. i just draw too many blonde haired/blue eyed characters - the blackthorns were the most fun to draw :>

so you're telling me that Jem was always "other" in both Chinese and British nephilim society as a mixed child and then continued to be "other" throughout his entire silent brother career due to never fully being a silent brother but not being normal either, and then went on to be "other" as a man out of time in a world that he never should have seen, never fitting in anywhere at all. ok.
