I think that even if Charles and Edwin got in separate romantic relationships with other people in the end (which would be so fucking stupid, but I digress), they would still be each other's primary person. Like, I think that they would choose to live together and the romantic partners would be on the side. It'd be a reversal of the usual prioritization of romantic vs platonic relationships in media.

But also, I don't want this to happen because it would be incredibly OOC and make the messages of the show so much less powerful. They have to be each other's in every way that matters. It'd be so fucking stupid to have them with separate partners (or multiple partners oh my god I HATE poly headcanons for them more than anything) when they'd metaphorically unplug anyone else's life support to charge each other's phones.
