#the girlies will need it

bestie i have to share the Ideas i’ve been having lately. the Concepts, if you will. (they are part of a Black sisters fic i’m writing, but i’m one of those people who thinks i’m writing a one-shot and suddenly has 20 planned chapters. i’m impatient so i’m sharing this with you now)

if you have read howard’s end by e m forster, i have been recently imagining Andromeda as being a bit like helen schlegel. (neither bellatrix nor narcissa quite fits the role of margaret, but combined they get close. looking for happiness, sure, but also practical about marrying someone of their station or above it who will supply them with the lifestyle they want, even if they want different things.) Andromeda on the other hand finds herself unable to go through with playing that role, and around the same time suddenly runs into and finds herself attached to muggleborn Ted Tonks, who’s hardworking and respectable and surely deserves access to the world Andromeda lives in, if only he could be … fixed up a bit, first.

in her mind, they’ve got a bit of a ‘my fair lady’ thing going on. she’s got a stubborn and righteous heart, but still believes the prejudices she was raised with, so she’s taken him on as a friend and a project, though she genuinely does like him and believe in him, and feels very strongly that he (and later she’ll realize, everyone else too) deserves better. and, in her defense, lucius does the exact same thing to severus, and that one works out (debatably) quite well.

but of course, she can’t plan ahead to falling in love, realizing the sphere of society she’s working so hard to get him into isn’t worth the trouble, and her family is full of assholes, and running off. which does not happen in howard’s end, but that’s because that book would like to show that helen is mad to want to upset the natural order of things and will be cured only through pastoral living and childbirth, and that’s not the direction i’m going with it. but the premise i’m working off of is similar.

it’s also fun because i usually see andromeda and ted written as having hidden their relationship and then one day out of nowhere she runs away, which is lovely and star-crossed for them, but boring for the sake of a fic about all three sisters. instead, she’s bringing this boy around on the regular and everyone thinks she’s insane. also very fun and thorny to write because andromeda, like helen, is mostly accidentally ruining his life in an effort to ‘help’ him. and yet she means so well. and they’re having so much fun when she forgets what she thinks she’s supposed to be doing. ugh. delightful. i had to get this out to somebody so i hope you enjoyed (and i hope you’ve read this book and this means anything at all to you) xoxo mwah mwah !!
