what characters/plot points that were only mentioned in one book would you most have liked to have seen again? (I hope your day improves! I will try to think of sillier questions to send you)
Thank you!
I kind of want to hear more from Granny Controller in #49, to be honest. It's so rare to see a host who isn't at peak physical condition, that implies she's someone important if she's in her 90s (Tobias's estimate) and got infested. Maybe she's the mayor of their town, or a state senator? Maybe she's the only person who can work the HTML for the Sharing's website? The possibilities are endless.

Kristin is wearing a Frog themed T-shirt... This must be a diversion to think that Kristin is the Muppet Joker... All while it is Father Strange that is the Muppet Joker...

i really love it when people here are “not normal” about the things they love. yes!! break down the scene that you’ve been obsessing over for weeks! create incredibly intricate theories based on a few throwaway lines! explain why you love this character so much—458 reasons and counting, and with visual aids! i love to see people putting their heart and soul into not being normal!!!

I'm not the first to mention this, but one bit that I thought was really clever in Steven Universe is the ways in which the show subtly justifies the cartoonism of the principle cast always wearing the same outfit for ease-of-animation purposes. The gems are a gimme in that they're all hardlight-projections, and even before that's solidified as a plot point they're otherworldly and superheroic enough that you don't really think to question it. But Steven canonically just owns hundreds and hundreds of those star shirts, which are leftover merchandise from his father's fizzled-out career as a rock star. Into which you can read a whole bunch of other stuff if you really want to, right? And I do want to. It's reflective of Greg's misplaced optimism that he got hundreds of those made in the first place, and it's a benign but visible example of how Steven's life is shaped by the knock-on effects of decisions his parents made before he was even alive. He's got his mother's superpowers and he's wearing his father's shirts.

as my own direct immediate list of game grievances i hate that stardew valley expects you to side against a wheelchair user who is upset that he was moved without his consent. i hate that the mass effect trilogy gives you visible scarring as a direct result of choosing mean dialogue and heals it if you're nice. i hate that the vampire the masquerade ttrpg has a monstrous player class that can appear as horrible vampiric monsters or as visibly disabled people and both of these appearances are mechanically the same. i hate that dark souls games have a difficulty level implemented in a way that cannot be adjusted for disability. i hate that i can play as a mermaid or a werewolf or a horse in the sims games but can't use a wheelchair. i hate that the ace attorney games have so much flashing and not all of the games can disable it. i hate that disability is constantly something that happens to teach a lesson, i hate that disability is something that happens as a punishment, i hate that disability is either compensated perfectly with no drawbacks or something that is endlessly sought to be cured. i hate that no character customization will ever include the mobility aids i use, that the player avatars that represent me will never look like me. i am so goddamn annoyed and so goddamn tired.

When DOES Jake’s mom become a controller?
I was thinking about how cool it would’ve been if Animorphs had offered any “surprise! There’s a controller among your loved ones!” twists late in the series, and how bummed I was we didn’t get one any later than #5 or so.  Like, K.A.A. could’ve waited as late as #49 and then pulled out one more “surprise! yeerks!” twist when the kids go to evacuate their families, one last twist that justifies all the paranoia throughout the war.
And then it occurred to me that that might already be canon.  Or at least headcanonable.
Because there is a lot going on in #49.  We know that Cassie’s and Rachel’s families are definitely clean, because they make no attempt to get away or circumvent the Animorphs’ attempts to fight the Yeerk Empire.  We know that Jake’s brother starts the book as a controller, and his parents end the book as controllers... but.  We don’t know for sure when his mom is taken.  She ends the book as a controller, but we have no evidence (other than Tobias’s rough estimate) that she starts that way.
Jake’s dad is almost certainly not a controller at the start of the book, because Jake mentions the obvious-in-hindsight ploy Tom’s yeerk pulls to get their dad to go buy a lawn mower off Cragislist a sketchy classified.  But we don’t know about Jake’s mom.  She’s probably not a controller as of #37 (when Jake and his parents, but not Tom, leave town for a week), but there’s plenty of room for her to become one between then and #49.  If for no other reason than it would make things more convenient for Tom’s yeerk.
Anyway, horrible new headcanon accepted.
