i think part of the reason lost media videos are so fun is that it more ethically scratches the same itch as true crime. a bunch of people online being amateur sleuths and going down rabbit holes is a lot easier to enjoy when theyre looking for a cereal commercial from 1991 instead of liike bothering the families of murder victims

I think the weirdest form of fatphobia I keep bumping into is writers suddenly becoming deeply concerned with physical realism when a fat character is involved even in contexts where everybody's physical capabilities are explicitly bullshit. "They're fat, it wouldn't make sense for them to have super speed" and it would make sense for the 98-pound twink to be able to run at Mach Fuck? That's something skinny people can do in real life, is it?

someone on my post about us defaultism announced that it's odd to assume people in the northern hemisphere have friends in the southern hemisphere because of the timezones and not speaking the same language (presumably english?). I wanted to see if they had a point or not, since I have a lot of friends from the other hemisphere BUT I'm from the southern hemisphere so I might be biased. help me out? [:

some notes: I'm expecting this to be skewed in terms of hemispheres because the majority of people on earth live in the northern hemisphere. so we're looking less at numbers and moreso at ratios!

if you're not sure whether you live on the equator or in one of the two hemispheres, just go with your gut. it's not super serious

there's been a bunch of buzz about switching/dumping streaming services lately for a lot of reasons, which feels like a good time to mention: this friday (august 1st) is a bandcamp friday!

for the uninitiated, bandcamp friday means the site doesn't take their usual cut, and the artist you're buying from gets it all. it's like an inverse of spotify's business model.

moving away from streaming services costs some convenience, of course, but it's also a lot harder for the whims of a platform or payment processor to zap a folder full of mp3s off of your devices! consider it!
