Seeing as the Gerudo turned on Ganon, he might not have been that much better of a ruler.

First of all, we literally have no idea, because the only ancient Gerudo that we actually get to interact with is Ganondorf himself, and he has nothing to say about his own people. The ancient Gerudo sage doesn't count btw, she doesn't have a name, we never even see her face, and she has literally nothing to say except repeating the exact same dialogue as the sages for the other races. The narrative does not treat the ancient sages as people; they are four completely interchangable weapons that are owned by the royal family.

And secondly, I don't care how Ganon ruled them; the Gerudo only get one man every century, if their king sucks, they've obviously got their own system of government to fall back on. I have no idea what kind of authority the sages had among their own people, but honestly I'd say if the four of them were in charge of their respective people, then they were just puppet rulers appointed by Rauru, given that all four of them happily agreed that to sell their entire race into servitude the second Zelda asked them. Say what you will about Ganondorf, but I fucking know that if he was told the Gerudo people existed for the sole purpose of serving the glory of Hyrule, he'd drop kick Zelda into the fucking sun.

And don't get me started on the implications of the cultural differences we see between the independent Gerudo and the annexed Gerudo. The background Gerudo characters all have their own models, and we can clearly see that the ones siding with Ganon have their own unique looks - for example, the amazing lady with the mohawk that summons the molduga swarm in that one flashback. And men are never mentioned in these flashbacks at all, which implies that the Gerudo genuinely didn't care about settling down. Ganon even speaks derisively about marriage, implying that it's very rare for Gerudo women to make serious romantic commitments with men. It implies that their culture is more along the same line as their portrayal in OOT - they are a closed culture. Men trying to force their way into their areas are arrested, and mocked for being entitled dumbasses. Outsiders are only welcome if they can prove that they respect the Gerudo as people, and aren't just there to try and pick up chicks. It's never outright said, but OOT also makes it pretty clear that the Gerudo women just aren't interested in marrying outsiders - close relationships occur with other Gerudo, Hylian men are only considered useful for making babies.

Meanwhile the Gerudo we see serving Hyrule are all trying to measure up to Hylian beauty standards, and appeal to their men. Their one goal in life is to meet a man and get married. Men are welcome in their lands, and only kept out of the town itself... and even then, there's a small army of guys trying to force their way into the town anyways, which is brushed off as just haha, boys will be boys. No men allowed isn't even about independence, it's just a silly romantic tradition.

Of course this is just a fictional culture in a game world, but it's still really fucking uncomfortable that the 'evil' Gerudo are the ones that have independence, both politically and socially, and display a unique culture that refuses to tolerate disrespect from outsiders. Meanwhile the 'good' Gerudo are the ones that canonically exist to serve a kingdom where 95% of the population is light skinned (even setting aside the unfortunate implications, just saying one race exists to serve a different one is super fucked up), they have classes on how to be more appealing to Hylian's, and their entire social structure is built around finding a Hylian man to marry, making them all inherently dependent on the goodwill of outsiders. Even their biggest value of 'women only' is treated as a joke; men trying to trespass in BOTW are just shoved back out the door, letting them keep trying all day if they want. The crowds of men plotting to force their way in are laughed off as a joke. Nobody cares that there's a guy running laps around their city walls and trying to trick women into being alone with him. I mean for fucks sake, in TOTK we find that the creepy guy trying to lure women away has taken advantage of a massive disaster to get into the town, and he's still there once things return to normal. You can't kick him out, or alert anyone to his presence. And the Gerudo just tolerate Hylians blatantly ignoring their boundaries. For fucks sake, TOTK even reveals that the seven legendary heroines they've been revering the whole time were actually completely useless and unable to achieve anything... because they needed the eighth hero, a Hylian man to teach them basic tactics and do all the heavy lifting.

TOTK does not respect the Gerudo people in the slightest. It doesn't respect anyone who isn't Hylian or Zonai.

...This got a little off track, but the point I'm trying to make is, no, I don't consider the Gerudo turning on Ganon to mean anything. The entire game does not feel like the real story of what happened, it feels like the propaganda version of history meant to make Hyrule look as good as possible. I genuinely cannot believe that we're being told the real story about the Imprisoning War, because none of it feels real, and we don't get to know any details that might have made Hyrule look even slightly imperfect. We're told that Ganondorf is evil because he hates Hyrule, and he hates Hyrule because he's evil. The Gerudo people followed Ganondorf and saw him as a hero of their people, then suddenly he was their worst enemy. Hyrule is a perfect kingdom that has strong, equal alliances with the other races, but also all of the non-Hylian races exist for the sole purpose of serving Hyrule, and their leaders are expected to swear eternal loyalty and submission to the Hylian royal family. King Rauru and Queen Sonia united all of the races in peace and equality, which is why they're sitting on the world's supply of magical nuclear missiles, and every member of the Hylian royal family is allowed to walk around wearing them as cute accessories, but everyone else only gets them at the last second, and they all need to outright swear to only use that power to benefit Rauru and his descendants.

There's just so many fucked up contradictions, and so many hints of something more nuanced going on... but the story refuses to acknowledge any of it, and just keeps aggressively pushing the narrative that Hyrule is the ultimate good and couldn't possibly do anything wrong. I don't even believe that Ganon was a bad king honestly; we never hear why his people stopped following him. We also never even see if the Gerudo people turned on him at all; all we know is the ancient Gerudo sage wanted him dead, and given that she also happily sold her people into slavery, she's not exactly the most trustworthy source of information. All we know is that Ganondorf was a hero to his people, only one of his citizens is ever shown having an issue with him (and her motives are never explained), and then he lost the war and was sealed away, leaving his people open to be conquered by Zelda and annexed into Hyrule. By the time we see any Gerudo actually opposing Ganon (apart from the ancient sage), it's been ten thousand years since the war, and all anyone knows is the Hylian version of the story.

OK can I just yap about a small misconception I’ve seen a lot of people make with Erica’s timeskip lore? Alright so pretty much everyone I’ve seen believes that after the events of S1, Erica goes on to join a bunch of teams again after The FailFleet Miis split apart, basically how things were for her before joining the 3DS Squad. Even the wiki says it right here:

I can definitely see how this mistake had started! But while it’s true she had to relive the experiences of traveling/tagging along with incompetent groups, all the death and fear and trauma… during this whole cutscene, Dan never confirmed she was a teammate of those groups.

Like, take a listen for yourself! The way he specifically worded how things were for her before snapping doesn’t really have a mention of joining a party/parties in between The FailFleet Miis and The Incident, just that she helped them! Dan already knew while writing her story that not only can people in the Travelers Hub tag along with other teams for specific ‘missions’, but also that there are already existing traveling mage characters in the world like Kazoo Man and Peppa!

I think something like that Great Sage role for her during this time was the route Dan was really going for, especially since it tied in a bit to her past arc of learning to have faith in others! This misconception about her timeskip lore’s been going on for years and I’m kinda surprised nobody’s talked about it (afaik)

I got into kh a few years ago but if I'd gotten into it as a young child I know exactly what would have happened. I barely used the internet so I would have either had to hear about it from a friend in school or watch a friend play it at their house. I would tell my parents I wanted a kingdom hearts game. they would look up which games were available for the consoles I owned (the wii and the nintendo dsi). between the two games, they would decide that 358/2 Days was too dark, and get me Re:Coded instead. I would happily play Re:Coded and go forward in life assuming that I had gotten a serviceable remake/port of kh1 and Chain of Memories. I would then learn this is false around middle school

anyway there was some sort of game accessibility paradox with kh games. it's accessible, in that being spread across so many consoles means people might be able to play at least one (for me, I wouldn't be able to play any of the numbered titles because I have never owned a playstation but I could play several of the non-numbered ones), but it's inaccessible because the story requires you to know the plot of all of them. this isn't really that true any more I guess because all the collections are coming out on steam tomorrow + the cutscene compilations online, but yeah

Tales of Berseria Custom Character: Imp

Martial Artes: Ailment-inducing pitchfork stabs. Malak Artes: Stat-lowering ranged attacks.

The imp's malak artes can lower enemy stats, setting them up for easy status ailments from its martial artes. It doesn't have many artes that stun, giving it little to do against enemies that already have an ailment. Find a new target to weaken or switch characters to score a stun!

Break Soul: Prankster Portal The imp rips open a hole in space-time to warp across the battlefield. It will warp next to the targeted enemy if far away, and warp backward if already close. Teleport in to melee a weakened enemy, or escape from enemies surrounding you and punish them with spells! The portals damage nearby enemies when they appear and when the imp jumps in, breaking guards and allowing combos.

Break Soul: Devil Purge Usable during Prankster Portal. The imp explodes the portals, damaging nearby enemies and removing all their buffs. Enemies with an ailment take massively increased damage, but the ailment is removed afterward. Inflict an ailment, purge it for damage, then repeat!

Break Soul: Hellish Torment Usable during Devil Purge. The imp stabs its pitchfork through a portal, opening up several portals around the target that each stab it with a massive pitchfork. This attack builds a large amount of BG.

Mystic Arte 1: Hell of a Trip The imp trips the enemy, making them fall into a conveniently-placed ravine, slamming against rocky outcrops on the way down, finally falling onto the imp's raised pitchfork as it waits casually at the bottom.

Mystic Arte 2: Impossible Impact The imp opens a portal, out of which a swarm of identical imps pours forth and pounces on the enemy, dashing and slashing with claws until the original jumps down with a final slash from above.

Mystic Arte 3: Laughing Sadist Usable after Hellish Torment. The imp drags the enemy through a portal to hell, where they're roasted with flames, skewered by a rain of pitchforks, and finally stomped to dust by a gigantic imp.

Misc The imp's first healing arte cures all stat debuffs, and its second grants immunity to stuns and status ailments (doesn't cure). It has effective artes against all enemy types besides Amorphous (slimes are too slippery for even it to prank!) and Fiend (the little demon can't counter itself). And Person obviously. It uses all elements, but it has several Earth martial artes and several Fire malak artes. The imp's hurtbox is genuinely smaller, so a few enemy attacks may whiff.

I'm begging dragonage fans to do a tiny bit of research about arm amputees before loudly shouting their opinions on the inquisitor returning in the next game Please lol.

Apparently, it was confirmed that the inquisitor, your chatacter from the last game (who looses their arm in the final cutscene of the DLC), will return in Veilguard as a customisable character, similar to Hawke, and they will play an active roll in the story. This has caused a lot of people to start speculating on how they'll handle the inquisitor's missing hand, with most people agreeing they'll have to have a prosthetic to be an active part of the story. Which, while I do think this is the rought bioware will take, isn't true, and a part of me really hopes they leave the inquisitor without a prosthetic arm like in the end of Tresspasser

Partially because we already have a companion with a prosthetic (neve) and it would be nice to see some diversity in how amputation is depicted in such a mainstream game, but also because you dont need a prosthetic to fight as any of the main 3 classes from inquisition.

Mage:

mages just need a staff, the game shows them as 2 handed weapons but it's totally beleiveable that it would be usable 1-handed (Neve also uses a dagger-like weapon in the trailer, you can make a "staff" in inquisition that functions more like an energy sword, and the Mage in the chargers uses a staff resembling a bow, so I think it's more that they just need a focus, the shape doesn't matter as much). A knight enchanter may struggle more 1 handed, but I wouldn't write it off as an option with some modifications made to their main staff.

Warrior:

the easiest to justify, because there are several cases of arm amputees fighting with a sword and sheild in history, and while many did have prosthetics, most weren't functional (meaning they were mainly for aesthetic purposes and didn't actually aid the fighter in any way. There were exceptions, like Götz of the iron hand, who's prosthetic was functional, but most were not). The inquisitor looses their arm just above the wrist*, so they still have most of their forearm. Most sheilds strap to the forearm, so it wouldn't take much adjustment to make that work, and you can use the other hand for the weapon. Obviously, two-handed weapons will probably be off the table, though, lol.

*edit to say, as several people pointed out, i got that wrong, my bad 😅. The inquisitors arm is actually amputated through the elbow, the screenshots i was looking at just weren't very clear and it has been a while since i got to trespasser lol. It would still entirely possible to strap a shield to the upper arm though, with some pretty minor adjustments to the existing straps on standard (as in, those used by non-disabled warriors) tall shields, so the point still stands.

Rogue

this is the one people tend to be the loudest about and the one I understand the most. Obviously duel-weilding daggers won't work (unless you give them something like the hidden blades in assassin's creed on their stump side, I guess) but using a single dagger still would, and is a perfectly reasonable approach, given that's how most irl people used daggers. Archery, though, absolutely can work without a prosthetic, despite what people think. Dragonage has crossbows, not something like Bianca (rip) but a small, single-handed crossbow is an option. Even ignoring that though, amputee archery is a thing irl, and not every arm amputee uses prosthetics for it. The bows are modified to be held in one hand and drawn with the mouth using a kind of pully-system built into the bow that I could very easily see being modified into some dwarven-style contraption in game (some double arm amputees use their feet to draw regular bows, but I don't think that would be pheasable in combat).

Like I said, I think bioware will probably go with a prosthetic, but i hope that they don't. Or at the very least, show them with it sometimes and without it other times (the same goes for Neve, no one wears their prosthetic 24/7, I'd love to see them both take them off around the home base, even just occasionally). A lot of arm amputees in particular prefer to go without one, and arm prosthetics in media are some of the worst offenders of the "perfect prosthetic"/"miracle cure prosthetic" tropes. It doesn't count as "diversity" or disability representation if it doesn't actually change anything other than the look of the chatacter, and im really, really desperate for some actually decent amputee representation in games.
