Been a while since I’ve done this. The Party Crashers text posts completely popped off with notes, so I kind of didn’t feel the same rush to make more as I usually would, but I’m back in the swing of things now, there should be another volume coming out sometime soon, maybe even another Party Crashers volume.

Failtopia Headcanons 3: Erica Edition. Yeah, I know she gets a lot of attention already, and there's a lot of potential with other characters, but I think I need to get these out. (Also now feels like a good time to say thank you to @rosetheocto and @littengamer909 for inspiring/ being the first to hear a lot of these.)

Her using bits of her old cleric vestments to stitch up the red garment shown beneath her armor. Something, something, using the mistakes of her past to fix her present.

As both a sweet reminder of his old position as the first team's leader and a writing thing for me because "Failboat" as a name just feels like it ruins a lot of emotion, she calls C!Fail "Captain" after their friendship heals in S2.

Her casual attire is somewhat generic, but she absolutely KILLS in a leather jacket and combat boots. Her favorite piece of clothing is an old red cardigan, though.

She's a closeted geek when it comes to fighting styles, with her own being a composite of several more famous warriors' techniques. Orion was quick to notice when he saw her practicing one night since he actually trained alongside some of those people himself.

She often used writing to express herself and her feelings towards others. Very few people know about this, and the only people who've even gotten to read any of them are C!Fail, Bo, Chi, and... Pirahnyawn, for an also headcanoned reason that I'll probably rant about on another post.

Part of why she was attracted to Bo was due to growing up in a fairly strict, pressuring family majorly responsible for her first job as a cleric; therefore, she saw the ghost's aesthetic as a fresh change of pace while also finding her personality endearing and worthy of being protected. Come to think of it, actually, that's also maybe why she sees C!Fail as a good friend; however disorganized, stupidly optimistic, or brash he could be, it was that charm she liked about him.

She was low-key really stressed when realizing in the dungeon that Mar had hired another warrior before her—even more so learning just how skilled he was—and was afraid of having to go back to being a healer. And even THAT might not have been enough since the team also had a literal angel as their current cleric.

On a related note, she sees most parties with more than one person of the same class as poorly planned out, mainly because a lot of her previous teams were structured that poorly and left her a wreck from trying to keep all of them alive.

Her favorite season is autumn. Nice weather, the light coolness is a perfect excuse to have a fourth cup of coffee, and any walks she takes to let off steam are enhanced by cozy shades of orange and brown. Plus, it's a good time to cuddle with Bo.

She's 100% been kicked out of a tavern at some point for getting into a fight or two. It's less frequently now that she's found other ways to manage her anger, but she's still come close because of how quickly she'll resort to violence if one of her friends gets picked on.

Hey, hope you're well! I was wondering, in regards to your AU once more- do you see Erica having that same cautious/ anxious attitude from season 1 or already being more confrontational, temperamental like in season 2? Sorry if this is weirdly specific.

Not to worry, I actually have a bit of an explanation for this!

In her freshman and sophomore years, Erica seemed dead set on following in her mother's footsteps by going into nursing. However, she realized during the second semester of her sophomore year that she actually hated that career path, and is now undecided. It being a family tradition to go into medicine, her parents naturally disapproved, leading to her more temperamental/"it's not a phase mom" attitude.

In a broader sense, the characterizations are based more off of season 2 than season 1. Hope this answers your question!

OK can I just yap about a small misconception I’ve seen a lot of people make with Erica’s timeskip lore? Alright so pretty much everyone I’ve seen believes that after the events of S1, Erica goes on to join a bunch of teams again after The FailFleet Miis split apart, basically how things were for her before joining the 3DS Squad. Even the wiki says it right here:

I can definitely see how this mistake had started! But while it’s true she had to relive the experiences of traveling/tagging along with incompetent groups, all the death and fear and trauma… during this whole cutscene, Dan never confirmed she was a teammate of those groups.

“Erica decided to travel the world, hoping to use her newfound powers to keep wayward adventurers from their peril…”

Like, take a listen for yourself! The way he specifically worded how things were for her before snapping doesn’t really have a mention of joining a party/parties in between The FailFleet Miis and The Incident, just that she helped them! Dan already knew while writing her story that not only can people in the Travelers Hub tag along with other teams for specific ‘missions’, but also that there are already existing traveling mage characters in the world like Kazoo Man and Peppa!

I think something like that Great Sage role for her during this time was the route Dan was really going for, especially since it tied in a bit to her past arc of learning to have faith in others! This misconception about her timeskip lore’s been going on for years and I’m kinda surprised nobody’s talked about it (afaik)

LIKE DAN WORDING IT THE WAY HE DID HAS TO BE INTENTIONAL RIGHT?? I even looked at the simplified cutscene for the Main Channel Upload to double check if he said anything there and it still has NO MENTION of her specifically joining these groups she’s assisted!!

^ also this COULD be taken as more proof since he says adventurers like. it could be a mix of regular parties and individual people? idk maybe this is a stretch lmao

ok but it would be so funny if during a random stream i forgot about he was like “oh yeah she joined all those groups in between the 3DS and Switch playthroughs lol” and this whole yapfest ends up being pointless and i look super dumb :P

A post-finale Failtopia scene I pictured:

Every so often, Erica still has nightmares of the tines between seasons 1 and 2. Flashes of her old job as a cleric, the countless teammates who fell to enemies that almost ended her own life, them yelling, begging for a heal in spite of her being horribly drained of MP. Monsters swarm in from all sides of the battlefield, disembodied faces fly into the air, weapons clash and snap...

She wakes up in a cold sweat, hands gripping her own arms in place of her staff. She shudders, cursing to herself and wiping a few tears from her scarred cheeks. But as she puts on her glasses, she's pulled back by reality by a crack in her room's door. Outside, Shrimp practices a new song while Big Bill sits editing the young pop star's videos. Failboat is wearily telling Chat off for firing a shell through the inn wall. Chi's mixing various chemicals with bendy straws while Friend sits by with a healing prayer ready in case something blows up. Mar and Orion are talking about everything and nothing.

The female warrior sighs in relief. But then, she feels a light touch on her shoulder. Still half-asleep, Bo mumbles, asking if something's wrong. Looking back and removing her glasses, Erica shakes her head, hugging the undead before pulling the sheets over once again.
