"Bruce Thomas Wayne!" the roar of a cycle cuts off abruptly and the yell rings through the cavern of the batcave.
Batman, suited up for the night, freezes stock still where he was reviewing some notes.
He turns, slowly, to greet his mentee.
"Hello Duke," he says as the Signal stalks forward.
"Fucking tell me when you put something new in my kit." Duke looks angry, an uncommon sight all things considered, especially pointed at Bruce. It happens, every now and then of course, they're all human.
Bruce wracks his brain for what of the changes to Duke's kit he could be referring to and coming up blank. No matter.
"I did," he states.
"Nuh uh," Duke shakes his head. "We ain't doing this,"
"I don't know what 'this' is."
"Yes you do, you do it to all of us," Duke crosses his arms over his chest with a very pointed look. It's the look Duke usually gives him when Duke thinks Bruce is a moron. "Now admit you were wrong."
"I-"
"Ah! Head like a steel trap fucker," Duke says, tapping his temple. "I know my rights."
Bruce sighs, while he's pretty sure he did tell Duke, there was still every possibility he didn't. And knowing Duke, the kid was probably right. The intensity of this conversation however, speaks of a story, and probably an incident.
"What's the damage?"
"Wayne Tech data center #2"
"Oh," that will be a fun report to read. "Good."
"Yeah, good, now only you get to pay for your dumbassery."
Bruce nods in agreement.
"Noted."
"Scared the shit outta me man," Duke tosses his hands in the air. "Tell me! Next time!"
Ah, there's the real issue. Bruce nods again, making a mental note to send all of the recent changes to Duke after this conversation.
"Will do."
Duke gives him another look, and sighs a little under his breath.
"Finish the sentence," Duke says. "I'm not your mama."
"No," Bruce replies, with a hit of amusement. "I imagine not."
"Funny, now..." Duke waves his hand in Bruce's general direction, as if to prompt him to say his lines over.
"I'm sorry Duke."
"Good," Duke claps his hands together and smiles widely at him. "Have a nice night!"
Duke's a good kid, will be an even better man. Even when they're yelling at each other, Bruce can never be any less than immensely proud of him.
He can't wait to see who he will become.
"You too," he says. Then, because he remembers that Duke's probably hungry after patrol: "There's leftover enchiladas in the fridge."
"Fuck yeah!" Duke punches a hand in the air.
There's a lull in sound in the cave for a moment before Bruce hears talking from a little bit away.
"Oh hey Jason," that's Duke still, probably putting away his gear in his batcave locker.
"What the fuck did you do?" Jason replies in a furtive whisper-yell, still more than audible to Bruce.
"Going to have to give me more than that."
"B just apologized, B never apologizes." Ouch, Bruce thinks. He's not that bad is he?
Is he?
"Who are you?" Jason continues.
"Skill issue," and Bruce can hear the smirk in Duke's voice.
"No, wait, get back here!"

Top 5 (or 10) things the books did better than the movies?
i am not the person you should be asking this. you have given me way to much power to shit on the movies. i already do that enough unprovoked.
if you love them please block my tag thg: movie criticism (or just block me😭). and trust me no one is happier than me if you enjoy them. i wish that i could too. but it's not happening.
THE BREAD SCENE - i know that time doesn't work the same way in a movie and in a book. i know that. but when a scene in a book is as well written as this one, as important as this one you can give it more than two fucking seconds. find a way for it work i literally don't care. that's your job. this is THE moment that established who katniss is/was who peeta/is was. their connection. asterid's mental health issues. and honestly maybe there is no way to do it justice in a movie format. BECAUSE IT SHOULD BE A SERIES. cause the timing would work so much better. you could basically do an entire episode with how detailed this scene is.
the seam/merchant divide in d12 - which is yet another thing the bread scene established that isn't just not done well but doesn't even exist in the movies. and that's not okay. suzanne plays it safe honestly by not explicitly stating that katniss is not white and i really dislike that. cause she can't be white and she isn't white. obviously this is a story set in future and race is a socially constructed thing. it changes with time. who knows what is going to be considered non white or white in the future. katniss or anyone really isn't even aware of race as a concept but that doesn't mean the effects of it don't exist. they just have a different name for it. the seam people work in the mines but merchants have shops. seam kids take out the tesserae and because of that are more likely to be reaped. i mean peeta's mom treatment of katniss in the bread scene *is* racism. and considering the american history and the fact that d12 is in appalachia katniss should be played by a native actress. then we have the coveys being obviously inspired by romani people. and the fact that after the "new" panem is established almost all of them are killed. it's a literal genocide. and while i really loved rachel zegler's portrayal of lucy gray she, and all the rest of the coveys, should've been played by romani people. it was the decent thing to do. and ignoring race in a story that is set in what is left of america feels wrong. is wrong.
katniss and peeta feeling like actual teenagers and being compelling as characters - they are immature and they're petty and they're impulsive and they are kids. katniss does try to appear and treat herself as an adult but she truly rarely succeeds. cuting out her crying after shooting the pig was so incredibly stupid. and i really dislike jennifer lawrence's performance. is it the script or the director or her i don't know but there isn't a single moment where i feel like i get katniss from her. the acting isn't bad it just isn't katniss. because katniss - she cries... a lot. she leans onto peeta... a lot. she's sensitive and soft inside. she's also often more vulnerable with him than he is with her. and it's the same shit with josh. his lines were so often changed into things peeta would never say and instead of a complex interesting kid we get that stalker from the cave. he doesn't get pissed on the roof, he doesn't get hurt on the train, we don't see him with a black eye after the bread scene. he doesn't throw a lamp and a statue when angry which isn't good but it opens up his relationship with anger. which is a very heartbreaking one. and then his hijacking looses its narrative value.
haymitch's alcoholism being treated as a joke most of time is awful. it's just so sanitized. any pain and trauma is. maybe i'm remembering it wrong but doesn't katniss trial last a day instead of weeks in the movies. the games are to clean as well. especially the aftermath of the first ones. it's not supposed to be pretty.
on the topic of the first games - katniss and peeta not being back to back and putting the berries in their mouth. i know people love him touching her braid but it's wrong. in the movie they are really amping up the difference between the two katniss is looking up and he's touching her but in the book they are a team. and they trust each other. they.are.back.to.back. AND PEETA IS THE ONE SAYING HOLD THEM OUT I WANT EVERYONE TO SEE. and just in general everlark's dynamic is awful and boring. they don't fight on the roof, they don't challenge each other, they're not kids playing catch with the force field, katniss doesn't fall in love with his eyelashes and peeta doesn't fall in a love with a song. not really. the magic is gone. the music is gone and i'm watching a soulless action movie. and i hate it.

If I were to write my own original superhero comic, I would use the 2:1 (and sometimes even worse) gender ratio but in reverse so that for every one male character, there’s two female characters. as reparations for all the male-majority superhero casts. There’s not even gonna be an explanation for it, they don’t have a matriarchy, it’s set in the modern U.S. My female-majority cast requires no explanation because no male-majority cast is asked if there’s an explanation behind them
#tho ofc i’d have my lovely genderqueer characters#yk how every cast has like. The Women character. i’m gonna have my main cast of protagonists be all women except for The Man character.#i’m thinking he’s gonna be the most fuckin normal guy ever like i’m talking steve trevor from dcshg levels of white bread bland#but all the female characters call him one of the girls#simu's two cents#altho honestly if i did want to be a little ‘deconstruction of the superhero genre’ about it as is the trend for the past decade or so#i could have a wonder woman pastiche where it’s a superhero who has come from a beatiful feminist utopia when she was a chuld#and she has no way and no idea how to go back so she spends all her time in the story in modern US trying to represent the ideals of he#her magical feminist utopia. like. jesus christ style.#and everyone both in universe and the readers think that she’s like from an ancient magical world that inspired the mythology of the amazons#and so does she because she came to the modern US as a child and doesn’t even know how she got there like maybe she tbinks she was frozen in#ice captain murica style. and she was also a child when she came so she doesn’t remember a lot#but then it turns out that she’s not from the past she’s from the future#the twist is done planet of the apes style#the message is that yeah we can get to that feminist utopia we just have to fight for it and it may not come for a long time but even the#fight takes us closer and closer yada yada ✨ hopecore ✨ intersectional feminism ✨ u see the vision

Now that mha is over yes its borderline copoganda; Heros are glorified cops. Yes the LoV was right in the need to dismantle the system, yes the potential of actually exploring the overlaps of quirks that can be disabling/treated similarly to disabilities and mental illnesses and how being quirkless is seen/treated as a disability as well in how people are seen as less for being unable to 'contribute to society' was wasted, Yes the potential in actually talking about systemic injustices and the LoV getting Some kind of redemption was wasted potential, yes endeavor should've fucking died, yes the majority of the LoV being victims of abuse and dying was in poor taste and they deserved rehabilitation or at the very least for their actions to have sparked Some kind of genuine longterm change
yes any hopes of this were too high but #neverstopdreaming & complaing is actually a philosophy of hope and want for things to be better..

You!
Yes, you! Garlic bread loving person!
Make french toast with garlic bread. That thick cut, pre-garlic buttered bread that they sell in bags at the grocery store. Make french toast with it. Two eggs and a splash of milk will make 4 slices with that bread. Which will fill you up with delicious garlicky eggy joy.
I don't wanna hear 'But french toast is supposed to be sweet!' or 'Where's the vanilla and powdered sugar??' No. Let's make 2025 the year of the savoury french toast. Join me in this delight.

one of my favorite things about tim is that he is truly and honestly no one's favorite. he's no one's first choice, he's not even his own first choice.
what makes him a good hero is not his need to be the best but need to fix things that are broken. he wants to make a difference and decided well if no one else was going to do it, might as well be him.
thing is now, he doesn't know how to stop. he was robin when no one else was, and now he doesn't really know how to be anything else

I can’t expect any Tech news. I can’t expect news about a clone rebellion show. I can expect, at most, an announcement for an animated show taking place in some time period in the Star Wars universe. I sure think the early rebellion/clone rebellion/early imperial period is most likely and I do think Tech is intended to be alive, but I’m trying to manage expectations. I’m trying really, really hard to manage expectations.

real talk, tho, my favorite thing to do in a ship is once we're over the messy hump of the get-together (and it's always messy in some way, hate that for me, them, the world-) is building the inner life of a couple while navigating like. incorporating that relationship into their lives that already exist.
(because a good ship, to me, is not that that ship becomes that person's whole existence, it's that it enhances and expands what's already there, it works itself seamlessly - eventually - into their already established careers and lives and alters routines but doesn't decimate them.)
it's the inner life that fascinates me, tbh. the minutia of how a couple functions within the framework of their own lives. what things are things they do together. what things are things they'd rather do separately. what's their couple language - what phrases and words seem like nonsense on the outside but have a private meaning for them. what's their bedtime routine if sex isn't on the menu. how do they sleep, who's the little spoon, who steals the blankets, who snores, who kicks. what are their typical nightly dinners like. do they make time to have lunch together - if so how often. who gives who flowers on a whim. if they have pets who does the feeding and other pet chores more often. stuff like that. i want to know how they function with each other outside of how often they fuck, you feel me, it makes it real, gives them depth, and gives you some interesting springboards for threads.
