okay but why does she want to hurt him about the books, tho. it's a thousand tiny cuts into his soul, wounding him endlessly. just imagine the sighs of dismay every time he finds a book of hers with the folded over page corners, like he's dying because of it. the tuts of disdain. the attempts to slyly get her to use bookmarks. the failure thereof. finally speedrunning the stages of grief until he hits a sad acceptance.

(honestly he adores her, it's disgusting. she'd woo him just in any attempt to do so, because let's be real, he's had to do the heavy lifting for most of adult life, someone else even trying is going to make him feel big things.)
