i know there's something seriously wrong with me when i get genuinely upset for people joking about how not complex peeta is compared to katniss. I know it's a joke, i know it's a largely movie inspired notion but man leave. him. alone.
#and on twitter of all places#the only people reading my tweets are my three best friends#but i can't shut uuuup#and it's not even funny cause it's not even a tiny bit true#also thinking that katniss is complex from the movies alone#...#suuuuure#like the movies made them both so fucking boriiing#thg#everlark

my issue with dark romance isn't morality based. i don't care that you're fucking your stalker. but why does it gotta be so bland. where is the yearning??? these bitches and never properly horny and that's so boriiiing.
#maybe it's just that hornines and lust only works for me when it mostly emotion based but come on#sure the sex is explicit but it's so dry#and in general it's so hard to find book that's equally romantic and horny#and as a 24 year old virgin i need this#IT'S SO RARE#i need to live through something man

The flip side of this post about the movies contributing to the perception of Katniss being this super stoic emotionless individual is that they also caused the perception of Peeta being this super soft puppy dog with an open heart. Yes, Peeta really loves Katniss and is unconditionally devout to her while being affectionate and respectful, but he’s not really as straightforward and open about emotions as the movies try to make him seem. To the point where neither Katniss or Peeta ever directly say the words “I love you”to each other during the books. And taking away those rougher details about him in the movies are what caused this image of Peeta.
Peeta’s main reason for revealing the feelings he kept to himself for 11 years has nothing to do with wanting a relationship with Katniss. It’s a manipulative tool to help her survive and seem more attractive to sponsors. Peeta even plays it off as a bluff right after Katniss pushes him into the urn.
Peeta has some self-worth issues that cause him to get defensive when he’s talked about. He gets irritated when Katniss suggests he won’t understand certain things but he also gets irritated in cases where she suggests that he has a genuine chance in the games (how snippy he gets when she tells Haymitch about the wrestling, and him mockingly calling her sweetheart when she says giving up isn’t a way to think and to focus on staying alive).
In the books Peeta is also responsible for the distance between him and Katniss after the games. He’s the one who acts icy and tells Katniss to let him know when she figures everything out. The movies have him saying he’ll act less wounded if she stops treating him like he’s wounded, but the books have him apologizing for acting wounded and wanting to stop so they can be friends.
Peeta is great at talking but not great at communicating. When Katniss tells him to wake her up when he has nightmares he says they’re mainly about losing her and seeing her alive helps. Now I don’t think Peeta is lying and Katniss definitely does help him and she is in all his nightmares. But based on the paintings he shows Katniss, there are other scary things in his nightmares that he’s sidestepping discussing.
Peeta really doesn’t ask anyone and just makes his own plan for Haymitch, Katniss, and him training like Careers. All while having the warmer side of his personality take a backseat in favor of a perfectionist coach.
And just like with Katniss, taking away these small details from Peeta erases all the nuance of his character. Being kind and super loving is always valuable, but to be kind when you’re great at lying and manipulating? When you’re from a very angry household and are shown to bottle up emotions? It shows the effort Peeta puts in to choosing to be a good person and partner. It’s also why Katniss and Peeta’s relationship seems so equal in the books, they’re both so good at taking care of each other but so bad at talking about the more wounded parts of themselves that were there before the games even started. Unlike the movies which makes them seem like an emotionless girl and a puppy dog boy waiting in the wings happily because he doesn’t have anything else to him.
#THANK YOU#been screaming this forever#everytime i come across an opinion that goes something along the ''peeta is the heart katniss is the brain“ way i get annoyed because#nooooo im sorry but you don't get it SHE'S THE HEART#she's the impulsive one and peeta is calculated one#like rarely is he going to be in a position to surprise himself#he's extremely aware of himself and what he wants and that's why the hijacking is so fucked up for him#cause that self control is gone#thg#everlark#peeta mellark: meta

i'm a firm believer that katniss had been harboring a little crush on peeta long before the reaping and that peeta, though infatuated with her, was not yet in love with katniss during the beginning of their first games.

GOD people misunderstanding the thg ending will never not piss me off. uhm... actually... the movies didn't show how sad and depressed and traumatized peeta and katniss are. they will never feel joy and everything sucks. NO?? literally how did you get to that conclusion. like how. and the movies suck, of course they suck, but in the opposite way. why do we always go even further from the actual point when criticizing the movies. the issue is the absence of joy not too much of it (and not only in the epilogue). why do you think that people are allowed to be only one thing. happy or sad. they can be both. most of the time they are both. so in the same way katniss and peeta can grieve what they lost and still be in love with the life they got to have. with each other and their children. you're so boring if you think otherwise.
#the ending is do explicitly hopeful that the “it's all grim and tragic” crowd will always confuse me#and sure katniss and peeta are not real and this doesn't hurt them#but there are people out there existing after tragedy and do you think that they won't ever feel genuine happiness again#fuck off#you suck#throwing tomatoes#thg#everlark
