no no no you don’t get it it’s not the angsty teenage romance that gets me it’s the love story between two people who very obviously are bound together by a fate as old as the songs of the hills they were born in and who want to be each other’s heart-shelter so much it’s embarrassing … the dystopian backdrop is incidental

Peeta having the conversation with his dad about Katniss’s parents before he actually hears her sing, symbolically really works with what makes Katniss’s love for him so special.
By putting this conversation in the text instead of having him instantly fall for Katniss’s voice it sets up the intriguing contrast the Everdeen family is to the life Peeta knows. At age five Peeta is confused why anyone would pick a coal miner over his father, it almost seems magical the concept of singing making someone fall in love against the hopeless utilitarianism of Panem.
Which embodies the core of Katniss’s love. When she goes on about the value of a third son who took second place in wrestling when his own mother didn’t have any faith in him and their mentor ends up picking her later. When she’s ready to die with him in their first games. When she’s ready to die for him in the quell. When she chooses to be the mockjngjay so he can be rescued and not punished for treason. When she chooses to protect his life even when she’s not sure if he’s Peeta anymore and he wants her to abandon him. When she chooses to start to live because he’s back.
Years after five year old Peeta wonders why someone would pick a coal miner against all reason, he experiences that type of love as a girl continually chooses the boy who is never chosen.

🚨 We Need Your Kindness to Survive 🚨
Hello, My name is Mosab Elderawi, and I live in Gaza with my family. Life here has become harder than I ever imagined, and I’m writing this with hope in my heart that you might hear our story.
The ongoing war has devastated my family. We’ve lost 25 family members—each one a beloved part of our lives, taken too soon. I miss them deeply—their laughter, their presence, their love. Every day is a reminder of this unimaginable loss.

We are now facing daily challenges to survive—things that most people take for granted, like food, clean water, and a safe place to sleep. The harsh realities of life here have replaced our dreams with the constant fight for survival.
Our Current Situation:
💔 Lost Stability: The war has left us without work or a stable source of income. 🍞 Basic Needs: Food and water are becoming harder to afford with rising prices and scarce resources. 📚 Dreams on Hold: Like so many here, my family’s dreams have been replaced by the need to simply survive. Unimaginable Loss: Losing 25 loved ones has left a void that can never be filled.
How You Can Help:
I’m sharing our story with the hope that someone out there might care. Even $5 can make a big difference for us, and if you’re unable to donate, just reblogging this post can help spread the word.
Your kindness, no matter how small, is something we’ll never forget.
What This Means to Us:
Your support is not about changing our entire situation—it’s about giving us a little relief, a little hope, and a way to keep going. We are not asking for much, and we understand if you can’t donate. Sharing our story is just as valuable to us as a donation.
Thank you for reading this far. It means the world to us to know that someone is listening. Your kindness gives us strength and helps us believe in a better tomorrow.
With all our gratitude, Mosab Elderawi and Family ❤️

#i guess only once but very innocently and incompletely#it was in fifth grade so i was really just a kid but those were the biggest feelings i have had#which i know it's pretty lame cause im much older now but whatever#and actually it turned out to be a very sad story cause he died when i was 17 and we were in the same class from first grade#to well almost the end of high school#i didn't have feeling for him anymore when it happened nor were we friends anymore#but he was always there and then suddenly he wasn't#and his funeral was truly one of the worst moments of my life#it would've hurt anyway cause we're from a small town and so you remember people no matter what#but yeah#and a part of me always thought that i would see him on the street from time to time and remember how big of a crush i had on him#but that won't ever happen#and sometimes i get embarrassed cause i don't think he ever felt anything similar for me#but we were good friends there for about twp years#from 11 to 13#and he was kind#so yeah i guess it is slightly embarrassing but so what#i just really hate that he's not here anymore#sorry to trauma dump
