I hate this
It's a uniquely awful circumstance to be building a comparative list of your Ao3 fics for a uni project, only to find out that the ones you are proud of aren't even your top-rated fics.
If I have to see this data table, then so do you.
It's good enough quality that you can see it. For a bit of context, the higher up the story is on the list, the more recent and more proud of it I am. The greener the stat, the better it is concerning other fics. On the flip side, the redder the stat, the worse it is.
Now I would like to draw attention to these few works.
See that book whose stats are all in green? "I'm not a fucking nurse"?
I wrote that 3 YEARS AGO! Before I got good at writing. I wrote it during my dream smp phase where I was (in my opinion) almost peak cringe! Nothing will beat my year 7 Wattpad phase but my DreamSMP phase came close.
That book is my peak. I have not topped its stats since.
Then there is "How to Train Your Hoglin". I didn't even come up with the idea. I saw some animatics on it (I credited the animatics) and wrote a few chapters and then threw in the towel. IT IS MY SECOND MOST LIKED BOOK.
Now you may ask, "But Dot, what about the other minecraft one?" well the funny thing about that one, the 10,000 word one...
I don't fucking remember writing it.
I don't remember having anything to do with that book. I can't even remember what it is about. I look at the tags and I go "what the fuck is this?" That book has completely deleted itself from my memory. I wrote 10,000 words and I cannot remember a single one.
Then there is the book third to the top. I posted it on Tumblr as well a while ago. That book is my pride and joy, I am in love with that book. It was an original work that I wrote based on my nightmare and it is my child.
It is also second place for the least-liked book on my account.
And about the book at the top of the list? The one I posted here about a week ago? Well, I cross-posted it to Ao3 as well...

Is the video game really subverting its genre? Are you sure it's not just doing clever things within its genre, because otherwise the game would be boring and unchallenging and say nothing interesting? I'm just saying, it's cool and all that the internet allows horror game fandoms to overflow into eachother, but not EVERY 2 hour video essay needs to be spent breathlessly sucking off the devs. Sometimes a game is just REGULAR difficult and REGULAR high-quality.
Besides RPGs made over a decade ago, what is the thing supposedly subverting? Clearly not other contemporary indie horror games, because there is clearly a convergent ethos forming of cosmic horror and beginners' traps; that's just what the genre looks like nowadays.

Stick of Truth is a bog standard RPG just with a quirky tutorial#and creative integration of its off-beat story and mechanics RIGHT??#my point is Patho and F&H aren't actually much different; they still play like RPGs still handle like RPGs#the fact that you die more than you would in COD or Skyrim or whatever doesn't make it the “anti-RPG”#anymore than Seinfeld was the “anti-sitcom”#“subversiveness” is just a basic bitch way to analyze things; and I think “How does the art take ADVANTAGE of its genre?” is better#media criticism

everyone on earth probably has a hypothetical farming sim in their mind's eye that they daydream about on occasion because of the unfortunate situation that despite there being like a thousand farming games released every minute only like 4 of them are any good. and i think this is fun, i think its good to keep the imagination alive. if i made a farming sim i would bring back rival marriages from the old friends of mineral town. i want to steal someones wife.
#jk jk you dont steal anyones wife or husband. but it wasnt a popular feature because people felt like they were stealing someones spouse#plus the fact that characters married eachother after a certain amount of time made them unavailable for player marriage adding a timelimit#if the player wants to get married. but thats why i want it BACK i think its 1) hilarious and 2) interesting and makes the world feel alive#NOW part of the reason (outside of it being an unpopular feature to begin with) its not in like any modern games is probably because#devs don't know how to deal with non-gender-locked marriage candidates with this#i think its easy. everyone is bisexual. not just playersexual. textually bisexual#it'll be interesting if they always have a set pairup regardless of player gender but it could also be interesting if there was like#a little algorithm to give a couple non-player pairups as options. maybe make it random#or if a dev was tooooo ambitious they could add a matchmaking system that the player could be involved with if they wanted to play cupid LO#but that seems too much for a farming game. thats usually a whole other game in itself#but yeah i think its easy. its not like farming sim marriage candidates are all that deep characters to begin with#i think itd be fine if you had a couple randomized rival marriages...... i think itd be neat#my other farming sim daydream is NO fucking combat for the love of god FREE ME from combat#that is why i like story of seasons just a bit more than stardew#stardew has so much good farming mechanics but god i hate the mines. i think its so soso sososososososo boring#i also dont really like the turn based battles in atelier games and most atelierlikes either#(well i liked it in mana khemia but that was more turn based focused than alchemy focused)#i came here to farm. i came here to make potions. i came here to micromanage numbers. do not make me battle#but that is purely a personal preference thing LOL a lot of people really love farming game combat. i dont tho <3#MY DAYDREAM FARMING SIM HAS NO COMBAT... Anyone else think short form social media based on algorithms designed to promote topics that create more engagement instead of more joy, the idea of fast fashion but conveyed through social media, and the fact you can monetize suffering and outrage better than ever has largely resulted in the death spiral of media literacy and the mass emergence of bad faith readings?
#I may be venting a lil but god it blows my mind#fyp is a blessing and a curse because i don't think ppl were ever meant to be subjected to this many ppl at once#god i took a bird site hiatus for weeks and now BARELY check it and it already feels like a hit#oughhhhh#even fandom spaces have hugely incorporated marketing and networking into them bc of cmms and sponsorship and building portfolio#which would be fine tbh if it weren't for the way socmed is designed#now it's like you can't support too many ppl or else you're shadow banned or you have to make yourself palatable and marketable#and websites with threads in which people will only read the first post before qrting because ratios are seen as five minutes of fame#features that permit beating an algorithm are locked behind a paywall that promises you money if you go viral#and what goes viral is usually incendiary content meant for those ratios or trends. whether for or against OP#even in hobbyist spaces the climate has changed so much due to the monetization and marketing and just. ugh#not to mention side accounts dedicated to gossip in this new priv account culture like...idk#if you have to make another account so you can make fun of a friend on main with selected priv friends it just doesn't sit well with me#and not every priv account does this but enough do and it makes me tired#unsolicited hate comments are still as bad as they used to be on ff dot net except now people openly are proud of it more#why do most socmed feel like passive aggressive sticky notes on high school lockers#there is so much more I could say about everything that has left me weary about the internet but I don't know the time or place#and I don't want anyone to think this is about them because it's a general statement. though if you are doing the more inflammatory things.#maybe rethink that. it's not good for anyone else and it's not good for you either#I keep coming back online to check on ppl and see art and I *know* it's draining for my health every time#but I feel a lot better now that i use socmed less overall. and that I try to focus on what makes me happy#it just sucks seeing so many people i care about endure absolutely wild struggles bc people online do not care.#I like rambling in my tags because this is the only place I ramble except my personal journal and to my wife

OMG. Okay. I have to rant about Instagram and Algorithms. Bad. It's terrible.
So I got an Insights Email from Instagram about about last month. In which I've been REALLY TRYING to post Regularly and Engage. Really trying. Posting and talking and. TRYING. HARD.
...and I got. 39% LESS engagement in September than before (in which I posted NOTHING).
ALGORITHMS ARE FUCKING BULLSHIT?? ☠️☠️☠️😭

this is assuming its on art you normally wouldn't jump to reblog. i myself only rb stuff i really really like so .
The 'rude/demanding' tone would be stuff along the lines of "if you like but don't reblog I'll [threat]" which i see surprisingly often, both serious and more silly
#if getting a like and no reblog is that much of a mood-killer for you then like. well I know one way to solve that problem#I originally made this account to host my stuff but it's mostly just a pile of trinkets I've collected right now#if your trinket does not please me. it does not go on the pile. you see?#like. I feel like people either forget or just don't understand that Tumblr is a blogging website#back when I made my first tumblr account it's main competitor wasn't twitter - it was wordpress#if you wish to receive the blessings of the Algorithm Gods you should probably post on YouTube Shorts or TikTok or something tbh#(of course - this requires a sacrifice to the Algorithm Gods. typically in the form of sanity)#but also. I feel like Tumblr has one of the lowest turn-over rates for converting your audience into any form of income#whether it's trying to get them to buy your merch or redirecting them to your youtube channel to get adrev or whatever#tumblr users don't want to be sold to#and I think that also tracks in terms of like. not wanting to pay in “attention” so that the content creator can earn “clout” or whatever#so even if you're just trying to get attention and you're not trying to make money. it just kinda... I feel like that doesn't really mesh#with how most of tumblr acts#also also only creating art so that you can get attention is a good way to start hating art lmao#kinda just rambling idk
