List of Roman Emperors and how many future emperors were born during their reign
"?" is for emperors whose birthdate is unclear, they'd be listed under every possible option
Emperors with no known birthdate won't be counted towards any reign

Does anyone else hate that meme about only boys thinking about the Roman Empire and girls (and some gay men) gleefully being like “I only think about [insert current pop culture trend]”.
And it’s like continuing the meme that boys are intelligent beings, interested in history while girls are just…not
This coupled with the girl math thing, and also the “boys when they time travel vs. girls” and overall bimbofication trend. We’e going back in time where pretending to be stupid and vapid was the norm and it just alienates women who are proud of their intelligence even more from other women

I wish I could study the whole "no sympathy for Homelander" phenomenon among viewers because...
Either people think you have more control over your life's path then we think at a very malleable age and enduring extreme trauma or people really don't be watching the show.
Like I get Kripke's deal: he's a shitlib riding the popularity of "orange man bad." Amazon is likely also in on that marketing. It's bad branding meeting mediocre writing at the end of the day.
But the audience... it's there in the text that this dude had no chance to be anything except what he is. You, as the viewer, know for a fact that he was ruined before he ever reached his teens but yet everyone's holding him responsible for his actions as if he lived a perfectly normal life then decided to turn evil at 40. I know what the show is implying but do you not remember the actual canon??? The text???? The literal described series of events?????
And then the other people are Nazis.
I do not understand how people were surprised by the US's election results.

juvie buddies
#alek art#td duncan#td mal#total drama#total drama all stars#(if i want to get technical)#2024#duncan is around 15 here... mal is around 16#ive thought really hard about them these past few days . in my brain they actually knew each other and canon is different#duncan and mike got along really well. in juvie mal refused to speak to anyone about anything and would fight as many people as he could .#he wanted to stay in there and far away from home . they get roomed together and duncan is the first person who mal can talk to . he isnt#scared of him . he relates to him a lot . like -> wow we both act out for attention and people think we are terrible because of it#duncan being a mentally ill teenager seeing mal an also very mentally ill teenager thought 'i can fix him' . mike and duncan speak too here#i cant really see anyone else fronting besides those two . their brain was on lockdown and mike wanted out so bad . i see manitoba as a#gatekeeper so hed handle some sessions with their psych. i want to say they (duncan and mike) get moved to a psyche ward just because#i have more knowledge on being in one and how it goes ... but yeah i like duncan mal a lot . this art isnt ship whatsoever though 🙏 i dont#see them as a couple their dynamic is just better as friends imo#but anyways in all stars they obviously recognize each other but have an unspoken agreement not to say anything abt it#duncan is a known criminal but mike isnt like that . mike hadnt even told zoey about that part of his life . so duncan wanted to respect his#privacy -> then mal starts hurting people and he has to step in . mal isnt a good person by any means but i dont think he was that bad in#juvie . so duncan had to come to terms that his friend wasnt the same person he was years ago (in all stars duncan is ~18 and i think mike#is almost 20... so it had been a while since they last talked)#them getting each other like no other and being in pain because they couldnt really speak . i see them having a conversation still in moon#madness abt their past and history . god i just think abt them and their wasted potential wdym mike and duncan were in juvie together#duncan was in for trespassing or destruction of private property or something really dumb . mal fought his parent(s) and got in for assault#mal was already in when duncan was placed . and duncan was let out early on good behavior + his parents (dad) mostly did it to teach him a#lesson . wrong of them or otherwise . so mal was just kinda stuck there until they realized he was actually not right in the head . think he#knew abt their DID but was only diagnosed in juvie and had to go from there . tbh he shouldve been tried as an adult but td logic . doesnt#matter dw guys . mike gets the 'was put on random meds that made him go braindead' treatment bc that was me . post mental hospital abilify#had me messed up

One of the things I very much hate about modern AUs in MDZS is how the fic writers Americanise everything about the characters until the only thing Asian about them is their name.

I’m… neither of the previous anons, but— twentieth century history, if you would?
Still way too broad, but I don't have any fight left in me. The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration by Isabel Wilkerson is one of the best history books of the past few decades. If it had just been the sum total of fifteen years of oral histories (over a thousand, iirc) and rigorous archival research—dayenu!—it would have still impressed, but Wilkerson took all those interviews and distilled them into the personal narratives of three different African Americans who left the South during the Great Migration; if she had only given us their stories and presented the research and historical perspective in the context of this barely recognized 70 year migration of six million people—dayenu!—it would have still been a massive achievement; but Wilkerson also put the Great Migration into larger contexts, constantly reflecting the way it shapes the present and future.

Putting this in it's own post, but SO sick of the narrative bringing up Sam not looking for Dean in purgatory. Like, seriously, this show needs to shut the fuck up with this bs. I have very much two ways of looking at this:
Sam didn't know Dean was in Purgatory, man BLEW up, and presumably died. Sam was left ALL alone after Dean disappeared. Sam who only a few months before was on the verge of insanity, who barely recovered from his cage trauma. So Sam has a mental break down, my personal headcanon is that he made Amelia and the dog up to cope. But even if he didn't do that than he was still using Amelia and the dog to cope with his brother's death. He literally left the hunter life completely, presumably because he couldn't handle it. And I honestly think he would have died if he kept going.
Removing these scenarios, if people are so obsessed with Sam just hitting a dog and shacking up with it's vet, ignoring ALL Sam's mental issues, let's say Sam just did all of that, abandoned Dean because he so obviously didn't care about Dean, didn't even try to find him, all because they promised they wouldn't, do y'all realize how fucking out of character that is? Y'all realize how bad that writing is? It's actually insane. It's not something Sam would do in his right mind.
It's why I completely ignore fics that focus on Sam actually looking for Dean, personally I love the cage trauma inserting itself so bad that Sam has to find a way to not just shoot himself in the head. Find that kind of story fun. So we're either dealing with Sam was severely mentally ill and couldn't look for Dean, OR it's bad fucking writing. Bad writing that the showrunners could not get over. And god, it's SO aggravating.

The thing about the Maria and Henry scandal is that it was so stupidly avoidable. Over and over again, they were given the opportunity to not do what they did. Sir Thomas gave Maria full agency to go back on her engagement when he saw that she didn’t love Rushworth, but she didn’t. Henry didn’t need to go to London and see Maria, but he did. Maria was cold to him because she wanted nothing more to do with him and he didn’t walk away. He pressed on. He didn’t even want to have an affair — he was in love with Fanny! He had exactly zero need to fall in with Maria again and yet he did. And she gave the final push. It’s like a Greek tragedy. At once so avoidable and so unavoidable.

my literature class is incredibly tiny (there’s only seven people. the professor spent like all of winter break thinking it would be canceled), so what i’m trying to insinuate is: i hope we don’t turn into a tiny pretentious cult and push one of our friends off a cliff during a accidentally snowy day

I need this show to ask themselves how on earth centuries of history were all remembered as the same stories that were eventually the same stories lied about by maesters spreading pro green propaganda, when the in universe book of Fire and Blood did not exist for so many centuries after the Dance, that the man who wrote it was alive during Robert Baratheons reign.
Were the maesters even then, holding every Targaryean at knifepoint forcing them to spew out history literally everyone would know was not true just in case one man in 200 years future wanted to write a fucking propaganda book about it?
Did Rhaenyras own descendants just willingly spreading pro green propaganda too?

I think about sometimes how 2000s Scarlett Johansson would've been better cast as Catherine Howard in a different Tudor drama than Mary Boleyn in The Other Boleyn Girl if you believe the Portrait of a Young Woman, by Hans Holbein the Younger, is Catherine.

i am actually so tired of the way westerners treat eastern europeans
#fair warning for. a very very long ramble and rant in the tags. apologies#westerner or russian. no other option#westerner because the only thought they ever have is 'but they had universal housing so if you oppose ussr you oppose that'#(which is stupid becuse you can believe in that WITHOUT WANTING LIKE 6 COUNTRIES TO BE FORCED TO BE RULED OVER BY RUSSIA)#(SORRY FOR WANTING TO LIVE IN MY COUNTRY WITH MY HISTORY AND MY CULTURE AND NOT RUSSIA!!) (poland was a sattelite state but GOD)#or russian because they have a victim complex and are convinced that they deserve to rule over the entire damn world#'well you had universal housing so you had it easy' right yeah. okay. forget about like. everything else that happened#to eastern europeans during that time#forget about the things that are STILL issues all these years later not only in poland but like the more eastern countries too#its not about. the fact that the houses 'didnt have 3 bedrooms and a jacuzzi' in them. you DUMB SACK OF SHIT#god sorry. sorry. i also know so very little but like god damn i fucking live here. i didnt sit thru all that modern history#for some dumbfuck to say that 'ohhh only rich and american middle class people are happy the ussr was dissolved'#'oooh the dissolving of the ussr was illegal and the countries within it actually liked being there'#im just so fucking tired man i need to. i need to start killing people#and this is all not to mention that theyll say this stupid shit and then deny eastern europeans the things they actually did that were good#FUCK french people for trying to claim maria skłodowska. fuck americans for trying to claim the witcher as their own fantasy world#fuck the way the west is allowed to claim and destroy eastern european culture without any consequence because we dont matter enough#vaguely related but ill throw this in here since anyone finding it is unlikely and im scared of having this opinion#i think one underappreciated aspect of DE (which might be underappreciated because its not actually there and im stupid)#is that its pro-communist while still also giving some criticism to how it was handled and acknowledging that its still not perfect#which makes the writers much better communists than any self-proclaimed one ive ever met in my life who just worships the idea#perhaps its because the writers of the game were not white upper middle-class americans living in the suburbs. among other things#idk de is a game for people far smarter than me and i only played it once and im sure anyone who played it well can clock me as a bad perso#horrible horrible person even which is why im scared of mentioning it. but its an interesting thing. to me#the main thing is that im just not. im not far left enough i suppose. i agree communism in theory is a great idea. as far as i know it#(which isnt very far)#but chances of implementing it correctly in a way that doesnt take away from peoples happiness in other areas is. low. very low#i wrote a short essay about how utopias are inherently contradictory ideas once it wasnt very deep or good but like#you cant have universal happiness without restricting certain freedoms. and when those freedoms are resticted not everyone#will be happy. and then theyre unhappy they will have to be somehow removed or ignored

its not a lie to say that veilguard takes the themes from every previous dragon age game and absolutely butchers them to pieces i dont think
#veilguard critical#da4 critical#veilguard is the worst dragon age game in history. everything in it has been done already and done SO much better#i used to hate inquisition in comparison to the previous games. i cannot believe i am saying that i LOVE inquisition in comparison to VG#at least inquisition didnt treat you like a stupid diaper baby who cant make inferences or read context clues#if you think the writing is good...i think theres something a little wrong with you#you need your hand held through everything? really? you need to be told what to think every five seconds to get it through your head?#a summary after every mission? a 30 second varric monologue to remind you of what you did?#sorry bro but are you dumb? im not dumb. thats why i couldnt even finish the game. because this game was treating me like i was.#this game should have been gatekept from new players. if this is what it took to introduce new dragon age fans then holy freaking cow#no chantry? no lyrium potions? no racism against elves/dwarves/qunari IN TEVINTER?#NO SLAVERY IN TEVINTER????#i learned more about tevinter from ZEVRAN than i did in veilguard.#i learned more about nevarra from CASSANDRA#learned more about the qunari from STEN and THE IRON BULL#i hate these companions. i hate that i loved solas and the game is making me slog through fetch quests to get to him.#solas was the only reason i wanted this game. but hes only really part for a total of like 30 minutes.#what the heck. how do you mess up this badly
