#poorly drawn mdzs #mdzs #jin guangyao #wei wuxian #jiang cheng #I absolutely love the contrast between JGY and JGS in this scene.#While JGS is acting as an instagator and trying to fan the flames of discontent (pulling his devious (g) strings)#JGY tries to keep a fairly neutral stance. If anything he reads like someone who's attempting to chair an unruly group project.#Honestly I think this scene does so much to show us why JGY manages to become the respectable leader he does in the future.#He's actully good at leading discussions and doesn't rise to bait. He's trying to start a productive discussion with *real facts*.#There is genuine honour in his approach and he never jumps into the emotional bandwagon.#The issue at the moment is that he doesn't have same level of authority as the contrastively *worst* sect leader does.#Jin Guangshan has a very specific agenda - to gain power by throwing anyone he deems expendable into the gutter.#The story even explicitly calls him out on not being so different from Wen Rohan multiple times.#The insidious part is that he's surrounded by people who think this is all justified.#It's all about using the 'victim' narrative to leverage justification. Gobbled up the Dandadan anime and manga recently and absolutely adored it all. Not only does it feature the most likable and strongly written female characters I’ve ever seen in a shonen, it discusses extremely pertinent themes about consent and bodily autonomy from a lens of female solidarity while also elevating healthy relationships with kind communicative male characters who respect boundaries. It’s wacky, fun, gorgeous, and super refreshing.

#a lot of controversy swirling around but my personal opinion is that the story does a surprisingly fantastic job #with discussing the horrors of SA and violence against women without objectifying its characters #which is super new for a shonen the bar is definitely in hell but man is it refreshing to see abusers actually get punished #and to see powerful female characters who reclaim agency and uplift each other rather than rely on male saviorist storylines #written essays about it already per usual might blab more about it later but man what excellent character work #dandadan #dan da dan #okarun #momo ayase

So enforcers killing the sisters' parents, the very first scene of the show, the introduction to the brutal class conflict and theme of oppression that was the bedrock of season 1, the inciting incident that traumatized the girls forever, that changed Vander forever, leading Silco to lose all respect for him and begin plotting his coup, literally the beginning of the end for the Vander and Silco tragedy, and by extension the Vi and Jinx tragedy, the incident that Jinx avenges in Season 1 in a brilliant full circle moment, these girls seeing the gunned down corpses of their parents dumped like trash on the ground, THAT scene...........................

......was conceived to give Caitvi some relationship drama......

Read a review on Rose which points out that Rose is meant to be the blonde character who dies first going into the basement in a horror film until nine grabs her hand and pulls her straight into another genre and now I'm thinking about how the darkest dw episode are always described as close to horror but they can never really be full horror because there's always the hope of it all.

Thinking of what it must be like to be loved by a ship like the Perihelion. I think it must be a little like being loved by a god. A minor god and one with true personality, a god from a pantheon, with limited power and no claims to be all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving, no claims of being the One True God. And yet, a god. Its mind so powerful it can be present with you and yet in a hundred other places simultaneously, it holds you safe inside of it - or not (as Mother Nature holds us safe on Earth - or not). It can rain destruction when angered or help you if it wishes. Inside of its realm (itself), within its dominion, it sees all, controls all (not other people, but the very ground you walk on, the air you breathe). Outside of it, it can help you if it sees what is happening, but is not in control of everything. If you are within its reach, it is there, present with you always, a voice in your head, a friend (because this god spaceship loves you).

#I don't believe in any gods #but in writing this #I may have come as close as I ever have #to understanding what christians feel when they talk about their personal relationship with god/jesus #i guess at least if you put it like this i can understand the charm #somewhat #anyways #I also have thoughts about what it might be like to be loved by a dragon #in any story where they too are powerful beings beyond mere men #i guess it comes down to that 'powerful beyond mere mortals' sort of quality #the murderbot diaries #martha wells #murderbot
