finished mgsv (the truth mission) today. miller is such an interesting character! in chapter 1 he seems to be the real mc: he has a nice speech both in the beginning and in the end and the events seem to make him learn most of all the people involved. at first, i was sad he's around not as much as in pw, thought he's reduced to a background character, but after burger tapes i see that he is even running a burger side hustle during all that, so likely he is ok and mb the real reason we can't meet him on mother base free roaming is bc they didn't make a walking animation for him or smth. and i respect venom's commitment to his function of big boss, but it's also cool (although sad) to see miller of all people being probably the only ally of big boss who did not happily agree to anything and actually stopped being his ally. anyway thank you for sparking my interest to this character, i like him dearly now. the extra miller story that could exist is one more reason to regret that mgsv is unfinished; i intend to play mg2 but would like to know more about what happened between those years
not sure what to reply to this so i'll just say i haven't listened to those tapes yet but i love my sunny burger boy very very much
i think he has a pretty interesting life development throughout the games; i don't think there's info about what he's up to post-mgsv outside him retiring to alaska & eventually helping snavid ? it was a scrapped idea/retconned, but he at some point got married to (& got divorced from) a woman called Nadine & had a kid called Catherine <-she was meant to answer one of the codec calls and tell you her dad (Miller) was out fishing; maybe someone else has some more info but this is all that comes to my mind
oh i can tell you i was *suffering* anytime he would get all mad and defensive and like "boss please don't do this" and everyone just ignores him and he then (usually) acts like a poor lonely sad wet puppy under the rain and tells venom he'll accept his choice despite being so incredibly obvious he's not happy about it, but it's the boss' choice after all specially since venom barely ever talks.. like my guy please *please* just say something to him or idk actually kiss him maybe ... he's absolutely dying inside
i did like when kaz's all "i don't want her on my base" and quiet's like "oh really? well fuck you" and does some absolutely epic lethal parkour, but other than that it was stressing me out <-the only good thing about them ignoring kaz is when he makes that pouty face, i find it painfully adorable

You guessed it, another swapped Six of Crows post cuz why not?? Jesper this timee
Hearing the soft repeating jingle of bells, Jesper knew Inej was back. She came in through the door for once.
That was weird. Ah well, he'll find out why in a minute.
"Jes, do you think you can fix one of my knives? It got dented earlier."
So that was why, a favour, of course, he didn't mind doing favours.
Jesper enjoyed it—..well when the favour just so happened to involve his Fabrikator powers.
Jesper is a Grisha, as much as he should be cautious using his powers—..he isn't, another reason for his Da to just pass out on the spot is he ever came to Ketterdam and saw how Jesper's life is going;
● Gambling addiction
● University dropout after like a month
● Shooting people every other day
● In a gang
The list goes on and on. But this particular reason was the one that Jesper would likely never give up, using his Fabrikator powers around people all the time. Sure, Ketterdam reallllyyyy wasn't a safe place for Grisha, but it was his way of remembering his Ma, Aditi Hilli, another Fabrikator. He learned what little he knew from her before she died. It's his way of connecting with her.
Because as much as he wants to flat out deny and never believe it, he's starting to forget what she looked like, her smile, her laugh, the face she made when she looked at his Da—all he remembered was that she looked happy when she did, but what did she even look like when she was happy?
It was slowly gnawing away at him—he can't live his life having forgotten his Ma, he just can't, and he won't! Being a Fabrikator was the only permanent connection Jes had with his Ma, and he'll shoot Kaz in his good leg before he lets that go.
Oh yeah, back to Inej's knife!
"Yea'? Which one 's it this time?"
"Santka Lizaveta"
Before Jesper has any time to inquire about the Saint her knife is named after—like he does everytime, partly because he doesn't bother to remember them, and it gets Inej in a better mood rambling about her beloved Saints while he fixes up her knife—she almost too quickly takes a knife with a pretty nice rose engraved handle out from her belt, handing it hilt first to Jesper.
"Anyone ever tell 'y you're too good with 'yer knives? Could've stabbed me there, and I'd be as useless as a fish outta water 'gainst it." Jes grins as he takes the knife from Inej, eager to show off his Fabrikator amazingness.
"You do, pretty often."
Jesper couldn't help but notice a small, genuine smile on Inej's face from the compliment, even if he says the same thing every time they need a quick fix. "Do I now? Must be spectacular with 'em to get so many compliments from yours truly."
Once he's done with Inej's knife—Sankta.. something—he hands it back with a proud look on his face, waiting for feedback on his Fabrikator handiwork.
"Thanks Jes, you really are good at this."
Once again, the hint of a smile returns to her lips, on this time, it actually becomes the full thing, a smiling Inej admiring his work, one out of however many Dregs are left, Kaz will he a tough one to crack.
Jes will get there eventually, maybe fix up his cane and Kaz will actually compliment his abilities—well, as close to a compliment as Kaz can get, even if it is jsut a: "could be better, but certainly worse."
Jesper would be grinning ear to ear if Kaz told him that, anyone would, he never gives out compliments or praise, and when he does, you can never really tell if he's being genuine or sarcastic, he'll never say which, you have figure it out, or jsut assume he's genuine to save your pride.

Intro post! + links to everything :)
Hi, I'm DK and this blog is mostly full of me talking about the Six of Crows and the rest of the Grishaverse! (and I'm also on AO3 as she_posts_nerdy_stuff)
It's occurred to me recently that I never did an intro post and also I'm just generally feeling that things over here are super disorganised so I've gone through all of my posts since 2022 (this was not a quick task you guys omg) and done my best to organise everything into tags so that you can access them all from here! All the links to the tags, or sometimes individual posts, are below the cut, and the categories are AO3, Grishaverse analysis, Grishaverse edits, Grishasverse knitting projects, and Grishaverse incorrect quotes.
Please note: this is a lot of stuff to wade through and I am sure to have missed the odd thing, but hopefully this is pretty mch everything! If you're looking for something that I've said should be here and can't find it, let me know and I'll do my best to track it down :)
Thank you all so much, love to you all <3
AO3 LINKS (I'm starting with the easier links, I don't have to make tags for these ones)
Original works
As I'm writing this I have four fics up on AO3, two of which are works in progress, and I'll update this post whenever that changes (ie when I finish them or when I start a new one)
UPDATE: Five fics now! Links are below <3
Daughter of the Rain and Snow
225k words, 146 chapters, Kanej focused with Wesper featured and Helnik kinda mentioned, post-canon, no archive warnings, completed
Summary:
Around ten years after the events of Crooked Kingdom, 25-year-old Captain Inej Ghafa frees Maya Olsen from a pleasure house in Ketterdam. Maya is looking for revenge against the man who put her in her position, a man who she knows nothing about except his name: Kaz Brekker.
Don't Go Blindly Into The Dark
100k + words, 60+ chapters, Wesper focused with Kanej featured and Helnik mentioned, pre-canon, canon divergence, no archive warnings, work in progress
Summary:
To hide that he can't read, Jan Van Eck has been forcing his son to pretend he's blind since he was eight years old. Wylan is now attending Ketterdam University, and meeting Jesper Fahey may very well be about to change his life. But is he safe to tell Jesper the truth? And what will Jesper say if he does?
Jesper is struggling to weigh up his life in the Barrel and his life at the University of Ketterdam, and there's a good chance that his growing debt is about to make the decision for him. He hasn't attended class consecutively for months, but maybe that will change when his newest project includes partnering up with Wylan Van Eck. But can he really leave the Barrel behind him? And how long can he keep up the pretence of who he thinks Wylan wants him to be?
Meanwhile there is a darkness growing in Ketterdam, and it seems a killer may be stalking the streets of West Stave. An unknown evil is closing its jaws over the city, and it’s starting to feel like nowhere is safe.
Our Gods Have Abandoned Us
19k + words, 11 chapters, Helnik and Kanej with Wesper kinda featured, so much angst, post-canon, canon-divergence (Van Eck wins AU), major character death, work in progress
This one properly started with this post
Summary:
"Of course they do, Jes," Kaz flexed his fingers in his gloves, "That's what losing a war means. And when that war comes, Kerch can't afford for Shu Han to win it. They'll back Fjerda against Ravka now so that when Shu Han turn against them Fjerda will back them in return. Ravka's navy will fall to Kerch's, most of Ravka's territory will go to Fjerda and if it has any money left then I expect plenty of it will be given to Kerch as part of the deal. The Shu will move against Fjerda to take back the territories they were trying to win from Ravka, and Fjerda will pay them little mind until they declare war on Kerch. Novyi Zem will back Shu Han, because they still think their trade ambassador was killed by the Kerch in what was actually Shu Han's last attempt to start a war over here, Fjerda will back Kerch, refugees will flee to the Wandering Isle and their economy won't be able to withstand it, and meanwhile I will remain exactly where I am and get drunk toasting to the end of the world. You're all welcome to join me,"
OR -
A Van Eck wins AU, mostly exploring how the Crows would respond to the situation but I have some semblance of a larger plot forming I just need to piece it together
If I'm Good Will You Come Back?
2k words, 1 chapter, sad and angst, gen but Helnik mentioned, canon compliant, major character death, completed
Summary:
Five times Matthias Helvar spoke to his baby sister through Djel, and one time that she answered
I’ve put major character death as a tag but it’s nothing beyond canon, it’s just depicted in this fic from a slightly different perspective 👍
Portrait of a Dead Girl
7 chapters so far, gen but also F/M, Alina and the Darkling are in a relationship in this but it isn't shipping them and the Darkling is the villain, canon divergence, alternate universe, rape/non-con, underage, major character death, work in progress
Summary:
Alina Starkov was given to Duke Aleksander Morozova of Os Alta in marriage when she was fifteen years old. Within a year, she was dead. The official cause of Alina's death was marked as putrid fever, but many at the time believed, and many in the future will go on to believe, that she was poisoned by her husband.
-
This fic is completely inspired by The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrel, which is a work of historical fiction based on the real lives of Duchess Lucrezia d'Este (née de' Medici) and Duke Alfonso ii d'Este of Ferrara. You don't need any prior knowledge of The Marriage Portrait or history to read and enjoy this fic, but know that my writing is very much going to mimic that of O'Farrel in format and although I'm hoping to write the story in my personal usual writing style I will definitely be borrowing a lot of my descriptors, symbols, and so on and so forth from O'Farrel - there will be some of mine too though :)
Somehow, Through The Storm
11 chapters so far but ongoing, kanej-centric with wesper and helnik featured, angst like you wouldn't believe, but also some happier times (ish), alternate universe, major character death, rape/non-con, work in progress
Summary:
In the slums of the Warehouse District, Kaz and Inej are struggling their way through a seemingly unending winter. Wrapped up in a stranger's overcomplicated marriage contract that he is convinced is key to solving the merciless weather, Kaz remains busy and distracted for days on end, putting everything else at risk. So when a storm ravages the city and sweeps Inej into danger, the offer of safety, food, and a place to stay is an overwhelming one - no matter the cost. Terrified of mounting threats, Inej signs a contract - not knowing she would land herself trapped at the Menagerie. Kaz signs a contract that states if he can walk all the way through the city and back to the Warehouse District with Inej behind him, never looking back at her, they will both go free. But this is the Barrel, the darkest part of the city where the rules of physics can change with the stroke of a pen; the journey back will not be the same as journey there… * This is a Hadestown-inspired reimagining of the tale of Orpheus and Eurydice, casting Kaz and Inej as our main characters and heavily featuring our beloved Crows, set in an alternate version of the Grishaverse with a different magic system based entirely on contracts.

Always By Your Side
Kaz Brekker x reader
Warnings; slightly ooc Kaz, death, mentions of sickness, blood, could be an interpretation of suicide if you look at the end closely
Words; 1155
Song; Saturn by Sleeping At Last
I've only read the first book in the Six of Crows duology, I haven't yet watched the show.
Anyway, kaz brekker is goated so here we are.
Also, the mention of three taps is supposed to be the I love you thing. I saw another fic that I'll have to find that talked about three taps with Kaz and I wanted to incorporate it and possibly write a separate fic with it as well. Once I find the three taps fic I read I'll for sure tag the creator because their writing was breathtaking.
Requests are welcome and encouraged! If you like my writing and would like me to write for another Fandom you can look at my pinned post for my Fandom list!
Thank you for reading <3

You taught me the courage of stars before you left
Kaz had lost everything. His mother had died during childbirth. His father in a farming accident. His brother due to sickness. He had lost so much. But he always had you. Except, now you too, were lost.
How light carries on endlessly even after death
Kaz watched as the Crow Club was laughing and dancing in honor of you. It was something you would’ve wanted instead of a bunch of people dressed in black while crying. He felt a twinge of guilt in his chest. You would’ve loved this. It was so upbeat and cheerful. It was happy, like you were. Kaz never understood how after everything this Saint forsaken world had thrown at you, you still held a smile on your face and a bounce in your step.
With shortness of breath
You explained the infinite
Kaz.” You whispered, hand gripping his arm with whatever strength you had left. Thunder rang through the air as heavy rain poured down from the skies.
“Sh, rest, Y/n. Rest.” He instructed softly as he limped painfully with you in his arms, the blood from your abdomen staining his coat.
“Kaz, I love you.” You said carefully, feeling the breath slowly leave your lungs.
“Tell me that when you get better.” He demanded, pressure growing behind his eyes.
How rare and beautiful it is to even exist
“Kaz, you need to promise me something.” He ignored you, looking ahead determined despite his ankle begging for a break. “Kaz, please, look at me.” He didn’t answer, instead gasping as he dropped to the ground, his ankle giving out and tears spilling from his eyes.
“I can’t- I can’t do it.” He confessed. “I can’t lose you too, Y/n.”
You smiled and placed your hand on his cheek.
I couldn’t help but ask you to say it all again
I tried to write it down
But I could never find a pen
“You’ll never lose me.” You had said gently. “I’ll always be with you.”
“No, you won-”
“Sh, of course I will. I won’t ever leave your side. But I need you to promise me something, Kaz.”
I’d give anything to hear
You say it one more time
“What is it?” Kaz asked as you wiped away his tears.
“Become something more. More than Dirtyhands. Become the boy you once were.” You asked.
“He’s weak.”
“He’s happy, and soft, and sweet. Kaz, I love you so much, as you are now. But please, don’t let this be your life until the day you die. Be kind, Kaz.” You begged as your heart rapidly beat weakly against your chest.
That the universe was made
Just to be seen by my eyes
“I don’t know if I can do it without you.” Kaz said quietly, fear taking over his body.
You laughed weakly, “How many times must I tell you I’m not going anywhere? I’ll always be with you. In here.” You placed your hand on his chest, right above his heart. “And my ghost will haunt you forever.”
Kaz’s chest shook as a wet laugh came from his lips, “I’m so scared.” He said jokingly, but you could tell there was truth to his words.
You used the last of your energy to carefully pull his head down and meet your lips. Your lips were cold which made shivers run through Kaz’s body, reminding him of the sickly feeling of his brother's skin. Kaz shut his eyes tightly once your lips stopped moving and your hand fell limp. He pulled away and rested his forehead on yours as his tears mixed with raindrops.
Anyone who passed by the scene would be shocked to see the notorious Dirtyhands sobbing over a girl's body, clutching her tightly to his chest as he rocked back and forth. He prayed to Saints he didn’t believe to give you back your breath and the gentle thump of your heart, but they never came.
I couldn’t help but ask you to say it all again
I tried to write it down
But I could never find a pen
Kaz downed the rest of his drink, sitting down defeated on the stool next to him, looking out the window into the rainy streets. He knew he should be joining the group and doing what you had told him. But he couldn’t find the strength in himself to do so. Kaz was broken. Shattered into a million pieces. He wasn’t sure there was any fixing him.
I’d give anything to hear
You say it one more time
A shiver went down Kaz’s spine as a single crow landed in front the window, gently tapping three times onto the glass. Kaz’s posture straightened as he stared intently at the bird. Its beady eyes stared at him as his own eyes widened. He looked to his side, and although it was empty, he knew someone was there. He knew you were there. Probably watching the dancing with a wide smile on your face, overjoyed that this was all for you. Kaz smiled softly.
That the universe was made
Just to be seen by my eyes
Kaz looked to his side with a small smile, knowing you were there. Watching with a smile as he donated the money his latest heist gave him. He could never stop with the criminal life, it was too late for that. He could, however, bring good from it. He would never tell his fellow Crows what he did with his portion of the money they stole, never admitting to having a kind bone in his body. But he knew that despite it being done in secret, his kindness was enough for you.
With shortness of breath,
I’ll explain the infinite
Kaz carefully placed a chest full of millions of kruge on his desk as his dearest friends stood surprised in the office. Each Crow's eyes had widened, Jespers dramatically falling wide open.
“What is that for?” Wylan asked carefully, unsure of what Kaz had planned.
“Take it.” Kaz said evenly. “Split it evenly amongst yourselves and live the lives you have always dreamed of. Except for you Jesper, you are not allowed to gamble a penny of your kruge or it will be taken from you and donated.”
“Well, one, rude. And, two, Kaz, my dearest friend, what is wrong with you?” Jesper asked.
“Yeah, you’re acting weird and mysterious.” Inej said.
“Weirder and more mysterious than usual.” Nina added, earning a nod of agreement from Matthias.
Kaz smiled at them, genuinely smiled which took them aback. “Your debts are paid off, you’re free. Go. Live your lives.”
“And what are you going to do?” Matthias asked and Kaz looked slightly to his side where he felt your presence.
“I’m going to meet up with some people from my past. Catch up again.”
How rare and beautiful it truly is that we exist

Day 7 - Fidget
Rollo & Reader (TWST)
a/n: sorry this is a day late yall. i was gonna try to get it before midnight, but kaz told me to just post it tomorrow, so any complaints you might have fall on kaz unfortunately (jokinf) also i accidentally wrote lee rollo at first but i tweaked it and fixed it so if anything looks off, u know why. anyways, ENJOY!!!!
——
“why are you moving so much?” rollo said, watching you fidgeting with his fingers.
“oh, just idle movements,” you replied, forcing your shifting to stop.
you had said that, but a few seconds later, you had started it up again against your highest efforts, and it seemed rollo began to tell something was on your mind.
he scooted closer to you, holding your hand up with yours and clasping your other hand over it. you looked at him, meeting his eyes and he raised a brow, confused. “something is clearly wrong. what is it?”
you averted your eyes, unused to his sudden affection, turning away. “…nothing, don’t worry about it.”
“are you sure?” he asked, leaning closer. you hesitantly looked at him again, almost forcing yourself to meet his gaze.
“…i guess not,” you finally said. he looked like he wanted to help, but wasn’t exactly sure how.
“would you like to talk about it?” you shook your head, awkwardly. “what would you like, then?”
hesitation, then you mumbled, “…a distraction.”
he looked at you reassuringly. he knew what a distraction to you meant. “okay, close your eyes.”
you did so without hesitation. it surprised you sometimes how you came to trust him to easily considering how you two first met. he brought his hands to your stomach, resting on the skin.
you twitched, but otherwise, stayed still. he began tracing softly along your torso as more twitches emerge. when he got closer to your sides, a gasp emerged and he chuckled.
he continued to venture towards your sides and ribs, listening intently to the giggles that began to sound.
“ahaahaha..!” you laughed, lightly pushing away at his hands out of reflex.
“ticklish?” he teased.
“y-youhuhu knohohow i ahahaham!” rollo tried to say.
“you’re right, i know very well,” he replied, agreeing. he started to poke each individual ribs, something that had always been very effective on you.
your laughter became slightly more frantic as the moments passed on, until you almost sounded downright hysterical.
“GAHAHAHAA!” he cried, his mouth wide from all the laughter.
“too much?” he looked way too amused at your reactions and clearly very intrigued, yet tried to hide it, though very poorly.
after a few moments of going back and forth between yourself, you shouted. “YEHEHES, m-meheheRCY! plehehehease!”
he got in a few last pokes, before he stopped entirely, watching your body relax as you caught your breath.
“was that enough distraction?”
“more than enough,” he said.
“but you feel better?”
you looked at him, meeting his eyes for a moment before looking away again. “i guess,” you muttered, feeling a bit embarrassed. “thanks.”
“always,” he replied, a soft smile on his face, that you would have never dreamed of seeing prior to having the bond you shared now.

Sixofcrowdaydreams here for the WIP ask! ❤️ What is the difference between your 5+1 best little nose bleed boy and best little nose bleed boy WIPs? Could you tell more about them?
Hi friend! I would love to!
They both started with the same premise, which was me wanting to give Wylan nosebleeds for reasons. 5+1 best little nosebleed boy is just an excuse to give him more nosebleeds, to be honest. I started the planning doc for it after writing about half of best little nosebleed boy, and it’s pretty much just vignettes of Wylan getting nosebleeds throughout life, starting from around 5 years old to (probably) post-ck Wylan and Jesper.
Best little nosebleed boy (I will probably change the name when I post it, but that will always be what I think of it as) on the other hand is a h/c one-shot of Wylan post s2. He gets a bit more than just nose bleed in it (not quite whumpy enough for me to consider it actual whump, but close) because it branched off from the initial idea after I started planning the 5+1 and turned into its own thing. Wylan gets mugged going from his workshop to the club with a package for Kaz, which, of course brings up a lot of unwanted trauma and panic and shame etc.
Something I always notice on rewatches is how resigned Wylan is when he gets mugged in ep1—there’s this look on his face coming back to his workshop of being really pissed off about it too, how annoyed he is both that it happened and that he let it happen, which all makes me think it’s probably happened before and he’s pretty much used to it by then. With the protection of the crows after s2, I got thinking about how he probably isn’t used to it anymore, which is why it’s so much worse when it happens again in the fic when he finally feels safe and isn’t expecting it.
Thanks for playing!

The Phoenix and the Crow
part thirty-six
pairing: kaz brekker x fem!reader
genre: neutral
el's thoughts: i'm about to spam post about four chaptersss so enjoyy!
masterlist
Tumblr media
They needed to get to the treasury, but Kaz would need some kind of cover while he picked that inscrutable lock, and there were druskelle everywhere. They rounded the corner and saw Nina, Matthias and a person they both assumed must be Bo Yul-Bayur running from the treasury. He’d been about to call out to them when the explosion hit, and everything went to hell.
‘They blew up the lab,’ he’d thought as debris rained down around them. ‘I definitely did not tell them to blow up the lab.’
“For Saint’s sake…” Y/N cursed.
All of what happened in the following few minutes had been completely improvised on Kaz’s part. All he told Matthias originally was to meet them by the ash when Black protocol began to ring. He thought he’d have more time to explain before they fell through the dark.
“This is going to sting a bit, but if we live, you’ll thank me later.”
Nina and Matthias had yet to recognize them until both Kaz and Y/N slid their hoods off. The Inferni quickly slipped the thick druskelle coat off her shoulders as well.
“Don’t pop the baleenbefore you hit the bottom,” Kaz called. Then he grabbed Bol Yul-Bayur and launched them both into the back mouth beneath the roots of the tree.
Y/N placed her hand over her heart and muttered the shortest prayer before throwing herself after them. The last thing she glimpsed was Matthias and Nina following her. She heard gunfire—and then she was falling into the black, into the cold, into the throat of Djel, into nothing at all.
She felt her back hit the water with breath-taking force, as she bit down on the baleen. It might have been a mere second too late as the air had already bee knocked out of her and when the baleen formed she felt like she was choking. The water rushed around her and clogged her ears, she tried to keep her eyes open but the current made it a painful task. Her body was thrown around and dragged through the tunnel.
Panic began to set in her bones as the strain in her chest and throat grew tighter with each passing second. She could feel her fingers begin to spark but clenched her hands in fists to prevent the water around her to heat up. If she lost control she could boil the water while they were all still under. She couldn’t risk that.
The current didn’t ease up on them for another few minutes and by the time she emerged from the water she felt so drained. The weakest she’d felt in months. Her hands crawled across the gravel that dug into her palms. Once she was far enough out of the shallows, she threw herself on her back and gasped audibly for air while resting her hands on her chest trying to control the harsh convulsions her body was experiencing.
She could faintly hear Nina and Matthias farther down the shore to her left. From the tones of their voices she could tell that something was wrong, but she had no physical strength to mover herself to see.
She felt as if the cold water seeped through, passed her flesh and into her bones, she had a chill in her body that she couldn’t seem to shake. The remains of her energy was used in her attempts of warming her body from within. She had never felt so cold in her life since her body naturally ran really warm, nearly burning at different times.
“I. Should. Let. You. Die.” Matthias’ voice could finally be heard clearly and startled Y/N.
She rolled to her side with her palm on the floor in front of her to support her weight. The body laid between Nina and Matthias was nothing but a blurry figure, but it didn’t take long before she realized who they were hunched over.
“Let me help before you crack his sternum. Does he have a pulse?”
“Kaz.” Her voice croaked and sounded foreign to her ears as she pushed herself to her knees, slowly rising to her feet. A flame licked its way up her hand to her arms stopping at her elbows in her last attempt to warm her body. She knew Kaz wouldn’t let her touch him if she felt this cold and just the thought caused a sense of desperation to kick into her system. Her chest felt hallow and her breath was shallow, a feeling she thought she would be used to, but the reasoning behind it caused despair to settle in her bones beside the unwavering chill.
Once she made it to the others she saw Nina place her hands on his chest and brought her lips to his, preforming cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
“Will he live?” Bol Yul-Bayur asked causing Y/N to startle as she forgot he was still with them. She gave him a good look over and furrowed her eyebrows, only now realizing he looked far too young to be the highly claimed scientist they have been searching for.
A sputtering cough caught her attention and she saw Kaz jolt upright, pushing Nina off of him. “Get away from me,” he gasped, wiping his gloved hand over his mouth. Kaz’s eyes were unfocused. He seemed to be staring right though the Heartrender. “Don’t touch me.”
“You’re in shock, demjin,” Matthias said. “You almost drowned. You should have drowned.”
Y/N shot him a cold glare from where she sat to the side behind Kaz.
Kaz coughed again, and his entire body shuddered. “Drowned,” he repeated.
The Inferni felt her heart ache at the sight of him and forced her flames to grow slightly larger to ensure he could feel their warmth without them touching him.
Nina nodded slowly. “Ice Court, remember? Impossible heist? Near death? Three million kruge waiting for you in Ketterdam?”
Kaz blinked and his eyes cleared. “Four million.”
“I thought that might bring you around.”
He scrubbed his hands over his face, wet coughs still rattling his chest. “We made it,” he said in wonder. “Djel preforms miracles.”
“You don’t deserve miracles,” said Matthias with a scowl. “You desecrated the sacred ash.”
Kaz pushed to his feet, staggered slightly, drew in another shaky breath. “It’s a symbol, Helvar. If your god is so delicate, maybe you should get a new one. Let’s get out of here.” He turned to Y/N who still sat on her knees now by his feet and held a gloved hand out to her.
Nina threw up her hands. “You’re welcome, you ungrateful wretch. Y/N, you’re really going to settle?”
The Inferni had no mental strength to respond so she only rolled her eyes and kept walking at Kaz’s side.
“I’ll thank you once we’re aboard the Ferolind. Move.” He was already dragging himself up the boulders that lined the far side of the gorge. “You can explain why our illustrious Shu scientist looks like one of Wylan’s school pals along the way.”
The group of five made it over the rocky wall of the gorge that led them to the other end of the bridge above, a bit closer to Djejrholm. Y/N had never been so physically exhausted in her life, but she couldn’t let herself rest. She had a country to save and the others had a prize waiting for them. They’d gotten further than any crew before them. They’d blown up a building at the heart of the Ice Court. But they’d never make it to the harbor without Inej and the others.
They kept moving. The only other option was to sit on a boulder and wait for the end. A rumbling began from somewhere in the direction of the Ice Court.
“Oh, Saints, please let that be Jesper,” Nina pleaded as they pulled themselved over the lip of the gorge and looked back at the bridge festooned with ribbons and ash boughs for Hingkalla.
“Whatever is coming, it’s big,” said Matthias.
“What do we do, Kaz?”
“Wait,” he said as the sound grew louder.
“How about ‘take cover’?” Nina asked, bouncing nervously from foot to foot. " ‘Have heart’? ‘I stashed twenty rifles in this convenient shrubbery’? Give us something.”
“How about a few million kruge?” said Kaz.
A tank rumbled over the hill, dust and gravel spewing from its treads. Someone was waving to them from its gun turret—no, two someones.Inej and Wylan were yelling and gesturing wildly from behind the dome.
Y/N looked at Kaz, she smiled to herself at the sight before her. “Saints, Kaz, you actually look happy.”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” he jested back with her. There was no mistaking it. Kaz Brekker was grinning like an idiot.
“I’m assuming we know them?” asked Kuwei.
But the crew’s elation dimmed as Fjerda’s answer to the problem of the Dregs rolled over the horizon. A column of tanks had crested the hill and was crashing down the moonlit road, dust rising in plumes from their treads. Maybe Jesper hadn’t gotten the druskelle gate sealed. Or maybe they’d had tanks waiting on the grounds. Given the firepower contained behind the Ice Court’s walls, she supposed they should count themselves lucky. But it sure didn’t feel that way.
It wasn’t until Inej and Wylan were thundering over the trestles of the bridge that Y/N could make out what they were yelling; “Get out of the way!”
They leapt from the path as the tank roared past them, then came to a gear-grinding stop.
“We have a tank,” marveled Nina. “Kaz, you creepy little genius, the plan worked. You got us a tank.”
“They got us a tank.”
“We have one,” Matthias said, then pointed at the horde of metal and smoke bearing down on them. “They have a lot more.”
“Yeah, but you know what they don’t have?” Kaz asked as Jesper rotated the tanks’d giant gun. “A bridge.”
A metallic shriek went up from the armored insides of the tank. Then a violent, bone-shaking boom sounded. Y/N heard a high whistling as something shot thorugh the sir past them and collided with the bridge. The first two trestles exploded into flame, sparks and timber plummeting into the gorge below. The big gun fired again. With a groan, the trestles collapsed completely.
If the Fjerdans wanted to cross the gorge, they were going to have to fly.
“We have a tank and a moat,” said Nina.
“CLimb on!” crowed Wylan.
They boosted themselves onto the sides of the tank, clutching at any groove or lip in the metal for dear life, and then they were rolling down the road toward the harbor at top speed.
As they roared past the streetlamps, people emerged from their houses to see what was happening. Y/N tried to imagine what their wild crew must look like to these Fjerdans. What did they see as they poked their heads out of windows and doorways? A group of barely-adults clinging to a tank painted with the Fjerdan flag and charging along like some deranged float gone astray from it’s parade.
“We have a moat!”

OH I KNOW. Huey :]
Thank youuu you know me so well. I love him so much he's so awful.
First impression
I didn't really care much I think. Maybe I knew he's Otacon's dad, and that's kind of it.
Impression now
Oh I'm a bit unwell about this guy sorry. There's this one post about him I wrote (twirls hair) I think it was pretty good. I really like how he is the polar opposite of most of the other male characters in the series. Among the people a bunch of whom have various physical disabilities, only his gets used against him consistently and to such an extent. Kaz is a filthy hypocrite for treating him like he does in v, and I think it adds to his character and draws a lot of similarities between them (even if the narrative doesn't really openly acknowledge it). I like his photos on the AI pod and that he put his child in a fucking murder robot he built. I have many, many thoughts on him but as a sidenote why did they make him so fine in tpp. now looking back he always kind of was but I don't think it did anything for me because he wasn't on the floor shaking and crying. who said that. why did everyone leave. can anyone hear me.
Favorite moment
Hm I'm not sure honestly. I find his overall story really compelling, if I had to pick maybe the one where he yells at Diamond Dogs about how DD is not even a real dog, and they don't listen to him. I like when he shoots Skull Face and goes yess!!!! I did it!!!!! sure did buddy.
Idea for a story
He gets his ass kicked in my Paz au where she goes back in time and looks for another traitor with Kaz. Aside from that, I don't think I have anything Huey-related.
Unpopular opinion
I LOVE HIM. Awful terrible horrible guy who you tell to shut up once and then he kills himself in front of you five billion times and makes you feel bad. If the circumstances of his life had been different he could've been a brilliant scientist, acknowledged by the world and living a fulfilling and happy life, but they weren't.
Favorite relationship
Is his relationship with the world around him a viable answer. He's always the victim, everyone is always out to get him, and he is always sooo so innocent and has done nothing. I think maybe part of why I like him is that his paranoia and victim complex are kind of relatable? Not to such an extent, but I can definitely see the thought process there. Especially if you've been bullied in your life before, I think it's easy to kind of get used to that stuff, that's why some people spiral - it's loneliness and expectations to be treated badly, not taken seriously. He probably knows it's not true in many situations, somewhere deep down, but admitting it means taking responsibility and he's not about to do that. And, in the end of the day, in a lot of cases it is true, and he, to some extent, is a real victim. I like when the truth serum doesn't work on him and he just continues to lie (aka tell the truth that he so deeply believes). It's so good.
Favorite headcanon
I am so curious about what his relationship with Hal was like, I like thinking that he cared, but in such a fundamentally misguided way (as he usually does) that it fucked him up BIG TIME. my dearest son whom I love oh so much, no one loves you as much as I do, our home is the only safe place you will ever get. the rest of the world is an awful and horrible place, all of them hate you and you should be scared. Kind of Mother Gothel style where he brushes his hair and says don't leave but also goes to him with all of his adult problems that the child should absolutely not carry on his shoulders. He probably was pretty absent for a lot of it, but I do like thinking they did spend time together and talked, somewhat. It's interesting to think that it was part of the reason Hal shut the world and other people out for so long.

hi there! i found your post about all your wips from like a month ago, which i had liked so i could remember to come back and ask you about them! there are soooo many i want to ask about aah, i am very very tempted to ask about Chocolate and Flours because the first chapter was just so delightful, i have read it multiple times and it makes me smile so much!! BUT i feel like i should take advantage of this information-seeking opportunity and ask about one of your unpublished wips 👀 so if you are still interested i would love to hear some more about Post-CK, Jes can't decide between running with Kaz or staying with Wylan 😱😱
Ah, I should totally revisit Chocolate and Flours! Why wouldn't I want to plan the Crows' signature bakes? (And of course Wylan's showstopper would be gorgeous...) Thank you for telling me how much you've enjoyed the fic, it means a lot!
I've actually posted a few chapters since then! https://archiveofourown.org/works/59258113 Jesper keeps getting pulled back into "one more job" and it's taking a toll on his relationship with Wylan. Wy, meanwhile, is bonding with a Ravkan runaway he's taken in. Going on with the fic, Marya will play a stronger role helping Jesper and some friends will pay a visit from another shore of the True Sea.
I was having trouble finding traction with the fic, and thought maybe posting would get some interest that would help me find inspiration to write. Let me know if that all interests you :)
Thank you for responding to my post <3

Pretty Girl and Her Hero || Lab Rats: Elite Force ||
Tumblr media
Requested: hey, could you create a story about kaz and reader (Female pronouns please). It can be a cute or hot story, it doesn't matter, at the moment it's very difficult to find a story about kaz around here, that is, I don't care about the style or plot of the story as long as it ends up being okay in the end
You find yourself being saved repeatedly by a certain hero and he keeps teasing you for it. You start to find it annoying, but he thinks it cute.
Pairing: Kaz x Reader
Warnings: Near death situations, female reader, slight mention of assault
Words: 3.7k
A/N: Got a request done, finally! This one might be a little darker compared to others I’ve posted but I liked how it went. I’m trying to write these characters in a more aged up setting since my writing has matured a lot. If you guys don’t like it, I can try to go back to the original style. Let me know how you all feel! And I totally didn’t steal these scenes from spider-man.
The first time you were saved by Kaz was a complete accident, you just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
You were crossing the street, on your way home from the library. It was your turn, the little walk-man shining brightly on the crossing sign. How were you supposed to know you’d gotten in the middle of a high-speed car chase? With the bad guys directly heading your way. You didn’t even see them until they were inches away from where you stood.
Your eyes widened and you panicked, frozen in your spot. You didn’t even hear the horns blaring or the people shouting for you to move. The music from your headphones was practically at full blast. And you did try to move, but your feet were glued to their spot. The only thought on your mind was how you were about to die. You closed your eyes, bracing for what you imagined to be a harsh impact.
It never came, or at least not the one you imagined. Something did hit you, except it was softer than what you expected from a car. Not to mention the arms holding you firmly and the smell of men’s cologne hitting your nose. You open your eyes and you’re not in the middle of the street anymore, nor did you get hit by a car. Instead, you were quite literally swept away by some stranger's arms.
You’re met face to face with a guy, around your age with pretty, brown eyes. Eyes that you were quickly entranced with, probably because he just saved your life. For a moment, your heart started speeding up and anxiety filled your being. You’ve never been in this sort of situation, rescued like some damsel in distress by a cute stranger. You suppose you have to thank him like the heroine does after being saved. But everything you were feeling quickly went away when he opened his mouth.
“Don’t you look both ways before you cross?” he asks.
You’re not sure if he’s serious or not, if it's an attempt to distract from what happened or if he’s genuinely asking. It pisses you off either way and instead of feeling thankful, you’re irritated. “Well, excuse me for crossing when the light was on. What? Did I interrupt your high-speed chase?”
He looks shocked for a moment as if he wasn’t expecting that from you before a smile forms on his face. It’s cocky and smug, and oh so cute that it irritates you more and you want nothing more than to wipe it from his face. He looks like he wants to say something but a girl behind him interrupts, calling out to him. He waves her off before looking at you, still smiling that stupid smile.
“See you around, pretty girl. Oh, and look both ways before you cross,” he says.
You want to tell him that no, you will not be seeing him around or anywhere. But he’s gone before you get the chance and you’re left alone on the corner of the street you were originally crossing.
The second time Kaz saved you, it was purely coincidental. It had to be. Anybody could have been in the situation you’re currently in, you just happened to be unlucky one.
Some wannabe villain had crashed the Centium City festival, which resulted in utter chaos. Things were being blown up and rubble was falling, and once again you were in the middle of it all. You and your friends were watching the parade from one of the open balconies of the buildings. Whoever the villain was targeting just so happened to be on the balcony next to you. Whatever wreckage was caused to them bounced back onto you and your friends.
Which is why you were currently pressed up against the railing of the balcony. It was cracked with half the base dangling in the air and threatening to break off. You happened to be on the wrong side with your friends safely by the entryway. There was a lot of screaming, mainly from you as you screamed for help. Your friends tried to help, holding onto each other while one of them reached out for you. But when you tried reaching back, the smallest movements made the balcony shake. You’d fall if you tried to move.
So, you stayed put, or at least tried until the ground below you shook. That was enough for your broken part of the balcony to fully break. And suddenly you were plummeting down several stories, screaming until your lungs gave out. The universe must have had it out for your or something because there was no way this was the second time you almost died. Almost being the operative word.
You were caught before your untimely date with the ground, whisked away from the chaos. You landed on a rooftop miles away from the chaos of the festival. Safe and sound. You were extremely grateful to your savior, that is until you saw who it was.
“You again?” you shriek.
It’s the same guy from before, the one who saved you from getting hit by the car. And when he sees you, he wears the same smile as before. “Oh hey. The girl who doesn’t look both ways.”
“It was my turn!” you let out a noise of frustration, instantly annoyed. “What are you doing anyway? Who are you?”
“A little gratitude would be nice, I just saved your life,” he feigns hurt and it only makes you glare at him. “Most people say thank you.”
“And most heroes don't make fun of the people they just saved,” you scoff, crossing your arms over your chest. You were grateful, extremely so, but he ruined it by opening his mouth.
“Well, I guess I’m not most heroes, pretty girl,” he flashes you that same smile.
You want to say something snarky, but you’re cut off when you hear a voice coming from his ear. You notice the earpiece and figure it’s someone who works with him. The thought alone surprises you; you couldn’t imagine someone being able to stand him.
“Stay out of trouble, okay?” he tells you before running, or rather flying, off.
You’re left standing alone on the rooftop of whatever random building he landed on. And you realized how you got on that roof; your hero was an actual superhero.
The third time it happens you think you’re cursed, you must be. There’s no actual explanation as to why you’re currently dangling on the edge of a building by a fucking phone cord.
You’d come to your dad’s office, delivering papers he had left at home. Simple enough, right? Wrong. Because of course a construction crane would go haywire out of nowhere. And of course, it would come swinging into the building you just happen to be in. And better yet, your dad’s office was right by the window that said crane was crashing through.
You would have made it to safety if you hadn’t pushed your dad out of harm’s way. Kind of ironic since it should have been the other way around. But instinct took over and you were paying the price for it. The floor below you caved in, and you were sent falling backwards. In your disarray, you grabbed the nearest thing to you. Which was the cord phone to the phone that had once been on your father’s desk. It unraveled and stretched as far as it could until you were hanging from the edge.
You had a tight grip on it, screaming your head off as you looked below you. Bad idea, of course. You were several stories up and everything below you looked ant sized. This time you were sure you’d meet your end. There was no way you could be saved from a situation like this and there was no hero in sight this time. And when the cord started to slowly break, you whimpered and shut your eyes. This was it, for real this time.
The cord snaps and gravity does the rest, sending you falling through the air. You didn’t even scream this time, the feeling of falling from so high up stopping you. Until you were caught, strong arms holding you tight and flush against someone. You kept your eyes shut, adjusting to the feeling and not yet wanting to see who caught you. Even if you already knew who it was.
“You get in a lot of trouble, don’t you,” he says.
His voice rings through your ears and you grimace as you open your eyes to look at him. This time he looks at you seriously, but you can see the corners of his lips twitching. You know he’s holding himself back from smiling.
“And somehow you’re always there to save me,” you huff.
He still irks you even if you're grateful to be saved and even more by him. Somehow it felt comforting, though you’d never admit it out loud.
“Guess I’m attracted to you, pretty girl.”
His smile is back, smug and full of the ego you’re sure he has. Your face feels warm, and you hope it doesn’t show, his words throwing you off. You know he means it differently but the way he looks at you says something else. You’re back to feeling what you did when you first saw him, but you aren’t sure it left in the first place.
“Can you just put me down before I fall again,” you mumble, looking away in an attempt to hide your face.
He doesn’t say anything, but he lowers you down and gently sets you down. You don’t know if he’ll say anything or not, but you beat him to it. “Thank you for saving me again. And that other time. That’s all you get.”
“Fine by me, but as much as I like saving you, try to be more careful, pretty girl,” his tone is stern, like he’s trying to scold you but the glimmer in his eye says the opposite.
You scoff and send him a glare. “I told you I wasn’t—Stop calling me pretty girl!”
“Awe, is someone shy?” he teases, giving you a goofy smile to match.
“No, I am not! Aren’t you supposed to be saving the world or something?” you scoff, sending a glare his way.
“Eh, it can wait,” he shrugs his shoulders and you only stare at him.
“You’re not a great superhero, huh,” you say.
A smile threatens to crawl on your lips at the offensive look on his face when he says that. He looks like he wants to say something, but you’re interrupted. This time it's you who’s pulled away when your dad rushes over to you. You look at him briefly before you turn back to your unknown hero, only to see he’s gone. It upsets you for a moment, as much as you bickered, you weren’t ready for him to leave. You don’t get to think about it much before your dad steals your attention.
The fourth time was your fault, really. After the first three times your life has been in danger, you should have learned to be more cautious. You should have known that of course some maniac would rip the brakes from your train.
The train jolts and starts to speed up, causing everyone around you to start to panic. You don’t. Even if you should have been scared, everything was telling you not to be. You had a guardian angel or something looking out for you because he always showed up. He’d show up now too, you hoped.
But as the train drew closer to the end—a dead-end cliff that led into the ocean—you were starting to lose it. Maybe this was the one time he wouldn’t show up, or so you thought. One by one, the few people in your train car were disappeared with only a gust of wind left behind. You were left alone and the train was getting closer to the edge. Whatever miracle was happening seemed to be taking a lot longer for you.
Or maybe you had imagined it, and you were really just all alone in this part of the train. Your brain made you see others being rescued to keep the hope of you being rescued too. The thought only made you panic, and you tried looking for a way out. Outside, buildings sped past faster than you could make out. Jumping wasn’t an option. You were utterly and completely trapped.
Accepting your fate came faster than you’d thought, maybe because of the few other times you almost died. You sat back down and closed your eyes, letting everything else play out. Until you felt a tight grip around your waist, familiar arms holding you tight. It didn’t even matter if he’s only held you three other times, you’d know him anywhere. Your own arms wrap around his neck and you’re holding on for dear life as he flies you off the train. Everything feels like it should. Almost.
His grip is deadly around your waist, almost like he’s afraid to let go. You don’t dare to open your eyes and look at him until you’ve landed somewhere safe. Part of you still thinks it's in your head and opening your eyes would ruin the delusion. Your feet touch the ground, but you don’t pull away, arms glued around him. His grip doesn’t seem to loosen either, he still holds you close.
“It’s okay, pretty girl. You’re safe now,” he whispers and this time your heart flutters at how he addresses you.
He’s so soft and gentle with you this time that it feels odd, so unusual to the other times you’ve interacted. “I didn’t think you’d show.”
His grip tightens for a moment before he loosens it, enough to let you pull away if you wanted to. You don’t, not yet. “You’re doubting me? Ouch, I always save you, don’t I?”
“You cut it a little too close this time,” you huff, finally pulling away to look at him.
You expected his usual cocky grin but this time his lips are set in a straight line. There’s no grin, no spark in his eyes, nothing but a blank look. It worries you and you miss his stupid smile, even if you’d never say it out loud. You almost reach out to him, stopping yourself short and clearing your throat instead.
“Are you okay?” you ask but it feels off to ask that. Maybe because he’s a superhero and they’re always supposed to be in pristine condition.
“I’m fine. Are you? Sorry about the train, but we managed to stop it,” he answers, his voice matching the look on his face.
It makes you frown, lips pursed together, and brows furrowed in thought. You didn’t really know him, you’d admit, but you knew enough to know this wasn’t his usual self. Being goofy and aloof seemed to come naturally to him, this serious demeanor felt forced. You weren’t convinced he was okay.
You feel the need to apologize, as if the runaway train was your fault somehow. It wasn’t but you do anyway. “Sorry for making you save me again. I guess I am a magnet for trouble.”
“Don’t. Just... You’re safe, that’s all that matters.”
Now you know he’s not okay when he doesn’t respond with a joke back. This was about the time he’d tell you to keep out of trouble with a stupid grin on his face. Yet it never comes, and you don’t know what to say. Was it in your place to figure out what was wrong when you hardly knew each other? Yes, you’d think after he saved you four times now.
He speaks before you even get the chance to, almost like he sensed what you were about to ask. “I have to go. I’ll see you around.”
You don’t get to say goodbye before he flies off, leaving you at a semi-empty corner of the city. Everyone’s gone to see the accident with the train, but you want nothing to do with it now.
The fifth—and final—time you’d been saved had been months after the train incident.
Your luck had finally turned around and you weren’t in life threatening situations anymore. Which meant he wasn’t around to save you like always. Nor was he around in general. Centium City was a large city, crossing each other’s path was almost impossible. Especially since you didn’t know if he looked the same as a civilian, or better yet, if he lived here at all.
It feels nice not having to fear for your life all the time and everything’s gone back to normal. But there’s a dull ache in your chest when you actually think about it. You don’t even know why, it’s not like the two of you were close. And you hardly spoke the few times he saved you, only bickering with each other. Well, you bickered and he poked fun at you. It was limited interaction, but you missed it.
After the first month, you tried forgetting about it since you were sure you’d never see him again. Not unless you were in trouble, and you weren’t going to purposely put yourself in harm's way. The thought did cross your mind, but you’d be crazy for even trying something like that. The only other choice was accepting that you’d never see the cute superhero again. Until you find yourself in danger once again, you should have known your streak wouldn’t last so long.
This time you were walking home at night, which was already a red flag. The city was much more dangerous at night. You were coming home from studying at the library, losing track of time. You had headphones in, and you didn’t notice the guys following you. Until you stupidly when down an alley to cut your trip short. One of them appeared in front of you, saying something that didn’t quite reach. You panic nonetheless and try to walk around him. He grabs your arm before you can, and others join him.
You’re ready to scream for help until one by one they’re all thrown off you. They scatter quickly, throwing obscenities your way until you’re left alone. Almost alone. Someone stands away a few feet away from you, their back to you. You don’t have to see their face to know who it is, and you run to him. He turns around in time as you wrap your arms around his neck. He’s quick to wrap his around you and you’ve never been so relieved to see him.
“And here I was thinking you didn’t need me anymore,” he jokes but his voice is strained.
“Clearly we were both wrong,” you say, trying to joke back despite your pounding heart.
“It’s okay, pretty girl, I’ve got you,” his arms wrap tighter on your waist, and you lean into his touch.
It helps calm you down and you find that you never want to let go. It’s kind of funny, you don’t even know his name yet he’s already the most comforting person to you.
“How did you know?” you find yourself asking, knowing that if he hadn’t come when he did, things would have ended differently.
He doesn’t answer for a minute before taking a deep breath. “My team and I were patrolling the city. I just got lucky being around here.”
“I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t been here. I don’t—”
“It’s okay, you’re safe now. That’s what matters,” he reassures you.
“I don’t know your name. I want to at least thank you properly this time,” you say.
You pull away from him to be able to see his face, warm brown eyes staring into yours. He looks hesitant for a moment, as if you’ve said the wrong thing. You almost think you did before he smiles, warm and genuine, and not at all what you’re used to.
“Kaz, my name is Kaz,” he tells you.
“It’s nice to meet you, Kaz,” you say before introducing yourself back. His name has a nice ring to it and falls nicely off your tongue. “Thank you for saving me, again.”
“Don’t sweat it, pretty girl. It’s what I do,” he shrugs but his ears have a soft tint of red to them.
It makes you smile how bashful he suddenly becomes, another side of him from his norm. “Still, five times is a lot. Is there something else I can do to thank you?”
“How about your number, then?” he asks, quicker than you expected. “I-I mean, just in case you’re in trouble again and need me.”
Your smile widens and you nod. “Sure. And if you want to go out sometime, that works too.”
You give him your number and he saves it under ‘pretty girl’ despite your protest. Well, it’s not like you really minded, having grown used to it. And he walks you home, even as someone calls for him through his earpiece. He just turns it off, you’re more important right now despite telling him you’ll be fine.

I NEED some Yakuza headcanons of how the boys would deal with an s/o who's having their period. I'm really going through it rn and I need some comfort in these trying hours, please and thank you. T_T
OMG yes, I feel you tbh period care is very comforting. This post also crosses into how they'd care for you if you're generally feeling unwell, I hope that's alright. I'm sorry to hear you're going through it and I'll do my best to cheer you up! Headcanons of the boys below the cut.
Kazuma Kiryu
He's stoic looking on the outside but on the inside he is sweating nervously. He knows this is totally natural but he doesn't like seeing you in any kind of discomfort. Kiryu will check in on you a lot to ask how you're doing, using an unusually timid voice. He just wants to make sure you have everything you need.
Thank goodness for Haruka especially, on days when your period pains are particularly bad, Haruka just says "Leave it to me, Uncle Kaz!" and gives him a list of what to pick up at the store while she makes you some tea.
If Haruka isn't around to make a list and you have a request or need sanitary items, Kiryu will rush to the store only to realize he totally didn't ask what you specifically needed or how much. He'll just call to double check and he'll come back home with a gift, like your favorite snack. He'll give you personal space unless you request for him to be cuddly as he doesn't want to intrude.
His favorite way to comfort you is giving you massages. He'll massage any part of you too. He'll also run a bath for you and bring you tea.
Majima Goro
When he hears it's that time of month, his first thought is "Ah, shit." because he genuinely doesn't know what he can do to help. He'll ask and even if you insist you can handle it, he can tell you're feeling some discomfort. He'll try to cheer you up by volunteering to do chores you'd do, like shopping or cooking.
Both of you realize quickly that might not be the best idea. Majima isn't a horrible cook but he is so easily distracted that he's more likely to just burn stuff. He never makes lists when he shops so he'll come back with ten things no one asked for. He's just hoping to take some of the pressure off of you.
If you ask him for favors like to rub your back or to get you a hot water bottle, he's immediately on it. Extra pillows? Done. Snacks? Say less. He just needs some direction or he'll go overboard trying to find things to do.
In the end, Majima's way of comforting you is what he does best: cuddling! He's going to snuggle the pain away. It doesn't matter if you have 3 pillows and a hot water bottle on your stomach, he's going to snuggle up next to you. He'll probably try to get you to smile by cracking awful jokes.
Akiyama Shun
Actually pretty good at handling this. He works regularly with girls at the hostess club and the only other employee at Sky Finance is Hana, so he's around girls a lot. He knows when the time comes to just step back and make sure he isn't in your way.
Akiyama isn't overbearing due to the fact that he has experience with this. If you run out of sanitary products, he'll just ask Hana "Oi, Hana-chan. Where's the nearest place to pick up some tampons?" or he'll ask the hostesses rather than bugging you.
Totally the type of guy to take notes on your cravings and other things you like when it's that time of month. He'll remember if you prefer pads or tampons, he'll get your favorite robe washed and dried so it's clean and extra fluffy, and he'll get you all the chocolates you could ask for.
Akiyama's favorite way of comforting you is just catering to your needs. He's good at keeping calm and rather than constantly fluttering around you, he tries to surprise you with thoughtful gestures. He'll pick up takeout from your favorite place and share a cozy meal at home with you.
Saejima Taiga
His best trait? He is warm and soft like mashed potatoes. Forget a hot water bottle or a warm bath, he is a human heater so just snuggle up. He realizes this so when the time comes he'll just open his arms and say "C'mhere, get cozy."
Saejima isn't the world's greatest cook but he's particularly good at things like soup, so he'll make you a hearty soup with your favorite meats and veggies to cheer you up. Definitely the type of guy who believes you can beat a cold by just eating a lot of chicken noodle soup and nothing else.
Takes warm baths WITH you, washing your hair and massaging your back. Plus, you can just lean back against him like he's a giant chair, which he basically is.
His favorite way of comforting you is just finding ways to make you as warm and cozy as possible. He won't assume that your period makes you out of commission but he'll gauges your behavior to determine how much he needs to step up and how much he needs to do.
Tanimura Masayoshi
Since he's usually out most of the day for work, he'll text and call asking how you're doing more than usual. If he passes by your favorite restaurant or sees your favorite snack while at a convenience store, he'll message you asking if you'd like him to pick anything up.
If you end up staying home all day, he'll play hooky for a bit to swing by the apartment mid-shift to check on you. He'll joke, saying "If I get in trouble, I'll just say it was a family emergency, haha." before giving you a kiss and heading back out.
When he does have time off during your period, he will spend the whole day with you, doing whatever you want. You want to stay home in bed all day? Fine by him. You want to go get food? Name a place. Honestly, Tanimura isn't super picky on how he spends time with you most of the time so on your period it just means you get extra special attention.
Much like how he shows affection, his best way of comforting you during your period is just by giving you as much of his time and attention as he can. He knows you don't like when he slacks off at work too much but he'll still sneak off to grab you a snack or drink on the clock, giving a sly wink when you ask if he slacked off at work get you these.
Ryuji Goda
His work keeps him rather busy so he might not be able to dote on you as much as the other boys. Not to imply that he wouldn't love to just stay home all day and dote on you. He'll be sure to check on you in the morning and bring you a delicious breakfast in bed before he takes off for the day.
He keeps the bathroom stocked with items you may need. He's pretty good at monitoring his own needs and by extension yours as well, so whenever he's out shopping for stuff he needs, he'll pick up stuff for you as well so neither of you ever run out of stuff.
Type of guy to leave cute notes around the house, like "I laid out your new robe in the bathroom in case you wanted to take a bath" or "If you get hungry, order food from wherever you want and charge it on my card". His way of being there for you even if he physically can't be.
Ryuji's favorite way of comforting you is full on spa treatment at home. Breakfast in bed, warm bubble baths, a giant cup of your favorite tea, complete with a fluffy robe and matching slippers. It's honestly quite luxurious.
Nishikiyama Akira
He has a bit of a childish side in a good way. When it's your period, he wants nothing more than to make a pillow fort and put on your favorite TV show. It doesn't matter if he's never seen an episode, he just wants to snuggle up and have a comfy day.
Nishiki can't cook to save his life so he won't even try because he knows he'll just make some weird slop and that would drive you both insane. He can actually bake decent cookies though so if you have a favorite cookie, he'll make a batch. If not, buying a pint of your favorite ice cream is his go-to.
Out of all the boys, he gets the vibes down perfectly. He's in matching silk pajamas with slippers ready to do face masks and eat ice cream with you. If you decide you want to go out, just tell him what you're interested in doing and he'll plan the whole thing down to the detail. He'll even keep a couple of spare pads in his pockets just in case.
Nishiki just wants to take your mind off of things. He thinks that's the best medicine for a lot of things so it's his go-to method for comforting you. Type of guy to lay in bed with you when you're having bad pains and just talk with you through the pain.
Daigo Dojima
He's like Ryuji in that his schedule won't always allow him to spend as much time doting on you as he'd like. However, his method is less over the top and more down to earth. Before he heads out for work in the morning, he'll gently rouse you to let you know he has to go and say something like "Be sure to call me if you need anything, okay?" before giving you a kiss.
If he has enough downtime between meetings and if you've decided to stay home all day, he'll swing by with some lunch and a bouquet of your favorite flowers. Even if you tell him it's not necessary to do all of this, he'll insist on it. He grew up with a headstrong mother and watched her work with the Tojo Clan regardless of any period pains she felt, so by contrast he's very gentle with you, doing things for you that his father never really did for his mother.
Daigo will take his private care to go get anything you need. A Tojo Clan member may offer to run this errand for him but he wants to do it himself as it matters a lot to him that he takes care of you. Plus, he thinks it's weird to make one of his employees go get sanitary products for his partner.
At the end of the day, Daigo is a sleepy boy who works way too hard. The both of you will end up snuggled in bed, his hand resting warmly over your stomach. He'll sleepily claim that it's the same thing as you having a hot water bottle on your stomach, but you both secretly know it's just an excuse for you two to be as close together as possible. Not that either of you mind, of course.
Mine Yoshitaka
First of all, do NOT ask Mine to go to the store for you because he will be too scared to admit that he doesn't know what to get and he will bring home one of everything you asked for in every variation he could find. Give the man a list. He's too stubborn to ask for help for his own good.
Unlike Ryuji or Daigo, he'll take a whole day off work if you asked him to during your period. If his secretary asks why, he'll just say "It's that time and they need me" before brushing past her and going to see you. It sounds cryptic but he isn't about to run about telling everyone you're having your period as he values your privacy and doesn't want anyone snooping about to bother you two.
If you insist that he be a good boy and stay at work like he ought to, he'll grumble a bit but listen. However, he will still call you fairly regularly and ask if you need anything or if you're in pain. Mine's too used to no one checking on him so he feels a strange responsibility to make up for that by checking on you more than he might need to.
Mine is actually a pretty good cook when he wants to be, so one of his favorite ways of comforting you is making your favorite dish. He'll say something like "You just sit back and relax honey, I'll make us dinner". He'll do all the shopping and cleaning afterwards too. Mine's been pretty self sufficient for most of his life so he can absolutely do this kind of thing without being prompted.

Fanfic writer interview~
Thank you for the tag, @sotwk~!
A note: I put links to each of the fics that get mentioned, but only logged in AO3 users can see them.
How many works do you have on AO3?
8
What's your total AO3 word count?
1,698,209
Your top 5 stories by kudos/likes:
Her Dreams Became Nightmares [The Hobbit, Thorin x f!oc]
Of Sparrow and Drystan [PotC, Jack Sparrow x f!oc x genderfluid!oc]
Azying [The Hobbit, Bofur x f!oc x m!oc and rewrite of Finding Their Place]
Finding Their Place [The Hobbit, Bofur x f!oc]
Daughter of Death [Mulan (1998), no romance, f!oc]
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to respond to as many comments as I can, though sometimes, I just don't have the energy. The ones I do reply to are usually ones that make me laugh or have non-spoilery questions~
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
Daughter of Death, definitely. Though, it's sequel, Daughter of Rebirth, might be tied with it.
What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
Taming a Monster. Only because, other than the aforementioned Mulan fics, it's the only fic on my account that's actually finished LMAO
Do you write crossovers?
Not really. I do sometimes sneak little easter eggs into my fics, though. Like in Finding Their Place/Azying, Ned the Piemaker from Pushing Daisies is the brother to Adela. And in my PotC fic, I plan on Emil running into Edward Kenway from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (among others).
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Yeah. Some people didn't like that my oc for Taming a Monster was dark skinned. Not that she was half troll, but that she was dark-skinned in a Viking-Based fandom. Also got one hate comment on Of Sparrow and Drystan because someone was pissed Emil was actually a woman....But that's about it.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I sometimes do, but I don't post it. Because I don't need all my kinks out in the open. I'm nervous enough posting my drawn smut LOL
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I...don't think I have. I do know someone was translating Taming a Monster into Russian, so if ever anyone ever came across that, please know it was done with permission.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Speak of the devil, I just mentioned this =D
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope. My friend and I were going to try co-writing an Avengers fic a few years ago, but we never got around to it.
What's your all-time favorite ship?
We talking canon x canon? Or can we include oc x canon? Because, tbh, I don't really hardcore ship any canon x canon ships, aside from Will and Elizabeth from PotC or Kaz x Inej from Six of Crows. So maybe those? Or Bofur x Thorin. Otherwise, my favorite ships are mostly ot3s with an oc involved.
What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
Daughter of Life, the final part of my Mulan series. I just got so incredibly burnt out on it that even thinking about it makes me feel like that one meme of Ben Affleck smoking.
What are your writing strengths?
People tell me it's my descriptions and keeping the characters...well, in character.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I struggle with shorter stories and that, in turn, gives me burn out. I've gotten better about writing shorter chapters over the last couple of years, though.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I do it sparingly, unless it's a made up language like Khuzdul. But even then, I try to keep it limited because I know there are people who actually speak neo-Khuzdul and would probably want to strangle me for the way I write it LOL
What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?
None, really. I just want to be able to get the gumption to work on my own stories soon LOL
What's your favorite fic you've written?
Since you say 'written', I'm assuming this means finished fics. So in this case, it'd have to be Taming a Monster. If we're talking fanfics in general, then Azying. It's got more of my headcanons and worldbuilding in it for the Hobbit than HDBN, since I allow myself more freedom to play around (and did I mention it's an everyone lives AU?)
Time for tags~! Most of the people I know who write fics have already been tagged, so there aren't too many I can add to the list. However, the ones I will add:
@arcadian-dragon-riding @kotaka-kun @oh--you--pretty--things and whoever else would like to do this~!

Swapped Soc cuz I'm in loveee
((Inej's pov of the swap Jesper one cuz I'm too lazy to think of a dif scenario + check the name/allias post I did on Kaz for it to make more sense near the end))
The bells around her ankles rang louder than they normally would, partly because she was climbing up an alley wall.
And—welll, she damaged one of her knives, Sankta Lizabeta, the knife with a rose-engraved handle. Inej had gotten into a little trouble earlier, and someone managed to dent it, which she really wasn't happy about.
Once she's at the top of the wall, Inej perches on the gambled roof of whichever building she's climbed this time, looking down at the not so clean streets of Ketterdam, she should be getting back to the Crow Club.
First things first, she needs to take a quick detour to the Slat, Kaz won't be too annoyed she late, right?
Soon later, Inej arrives at the Slat, bells jingling softly as she pushes open the heavy door and walks in. Quickly, she spots Jesper. He's already heard and is turned around to look at her.
Saints, she loves those bells.
"Jes, do you think you can fix one of my knives? It got dented earlier."
"Yea'? Which one 's it this time?"
"Sankta Lizabeta."
There it is again, the same look he gives her every single time—instead, she takes out the knife and hands it to him quickly. As much as Inej loved to tell stories about her Saints, she was in no mood to do so. The fact it was dented had irritated her enough.
Jesper looked at Inej, the knife, and back to inej, obviously surprised at her quick reflexes to shut him up before he even started talking.
"Anyone ever tell 'y you're too good with 'yer knives? Could've stabbed me there, and I'd be as useless as a fish outta water 'gainst it." Jes grins as he takes the knife from Inej.
"You do, pretty often."
Despite her sour mood, Inej could feel a smile pulling at the corners of her lips, of course,
She'd gotten the same compliment from Jesper occasionally, but it was still nice to hear.
"Do I now? Must be spectacular with 'em to get so many compliments from yours truly."
Once he's done, Jesper hands it back to Inej with a proud look on his face, waiting for feedback on his Fabrikator handiwork.
She takes the knife from him, turning it over and inspecting every inch a little too mesmerised by how well he fixed it. Inej could feel the smile creeping back on her face, and she let it. She smiled, bad mood forgotten at the sight of her newly fixed knife,
Huh, it's good as new.
"Thanks Jes, you really are good at this."
With her drastically improved mood, Inej started on her way to the Crow Club, no doubt where Kaz would be.
He would be that mad she was late, right??
Inej thought over it while she climbed into the window of Kaz's office, bells ringing as usual. Once she's inside, he's already looking at her—with that same expression he always has, the one where you can't tell if he's disappointed, or that's just how he looks.
Saints, let him not be too mad
"What took you so long?"
There it is, that same raspy voice. It's almost strange how he sounds. Was it always like that? Ever since he was an innocent child? Was he ever an innocent child?
"I went to the Slat for a little while, had Jesper fix my knife."
"Fix your knife? What happened to it? Run I'm some trouble on your way?"
Her sour mood comes back in full force at his questioning.
It'll end the same as it always does. 'Yes, I did get into some trouble. Yes, my knife got dented. Yes, I shouldn't have let it even if we have Jesper, and yes, I should be more careful'.
She had to stop herself from blurting that out like an idiot and wait for this to be over.
"Well? What happened, Inej?"
Right, she didn't answer yet, just in her thoughts with lots of colourful words she shouldn't say involved.
"Yeah—yeah, it got dented, I went to Jesper to get it fixed."
"You and me both know I don't have to lecture you about this again, just be more careful, you're getting reckless, Wraith."
The Wraith, Inej took pride in the name, but it was a bit annoying when Kaz decided to call her that when she has a name.
The Wraith is an alias, her separate identity, a name for her enemies to fear, not for Kaz to use like it's the name she was given at birth. It's particularly annoying because of her negative mood.
"I know, Bloodyhands."
That was low, lower than she should've gone, another name of Kaz's, as much as he hated it, she knew he hated it, but here they are. Inej didn't particularly like being referred to as the Wraith by people she knew and felt comfortable with, the Wraith was a separate Inej, the one that had the blood of so many on her hands, the one that served no God. The only reason she was in the first place was because she had to be, and she was not the Inej, certainly not now.
Inej saw Kaz tense at the name, the look of surprise that was only there for a moment, a moment too quick, it could've only been her imagination at how fast it was there,—and then it wasn't
"Oh? We're not friendly anymore, are we? You know how I feel about that name, Inej."
Suddenly, she felt—bad? She felt sorry for calling Kaz that? No, she wasn't, Kaz had gone low, even if she'd gone lower. Maybe it wasn't a great decision.
The two of them were close, close enough that he told her things he told no one else, not much at that, but it was something. The thought along made her firm expression and resolve falter, not going unnoticed by Kaz.
But before she could do anything about that she'd said, Kaz turned and opened the door to his office.
"Stay if you want, I have to go check on the Club."
—and just like that, he was gone, Inej could hear the clicking of his crow headed cane as he walked down the stairs to the Club.
Saints, give me strength.
A silent prayer, before she opened the door and followed after him.

Can you tell us what the answers to the six of crows color experiment is?
Yep! ☺️
I realised too late that I really should’ve organised it as a poll somehow, because I’ve had loads of responses (thank you all very much) and whilst a lot of them agreed with me there were a few I wasn’t expecting. My associations in the order than I wrote them in the original post:
Red - Nina
Green - Jesper
Black - Kaz
Blue - Matthias
Purple - Inej
Orange - Wylan
So generally speaking a lot of people either agreed with exactly what I’d said or swapped Wylan and Jesper, which makes a lot of sense. A few people also moved Jesper and Inej around, which I understand and I wanted to add on that point I always connect Inej to purple with the idea of her reclaiming the colour and its power in the same way that she referred to her knives as her “proper claws” to reclaim the image of the lynx. Purple is the colour that was used against her and the colour that represents Ketterdam (Stadwatch uniforms, colour of Kruge notes, and the Geldrenner Ketterdam suite being the main examples); with a part of what separates Inej’s journey and her ship from Kaz’s style of vengeance is the acknowledgement that the city itself is the monster she’s facing, she’s been forced to come to terms with the idea that what happened to her wasn't the result of one terrible person or group of terrible people, but a dangerous environment and society that was never going to see her as an equal go matter what she did in life (this realisation is particularly linked to the “Rare Spices” billboard, which I wrote a post on a while back so if anyone wants to read that let me know and I’ll tag you) so by reclaiming the colour she is not only reclaiming the power Heleen took from her but the city as a whole. I hope I worded that all okay I worry that my point doesn’t come across properly it feels unclear please let me know and I’ll try to explain it differently. However I also understand the perspective a few people raised in their responses of wanting to separate her from that colour because she should always be seen as more than who she was forced to be, it’s just my personal interpretation that part of her pathway to healing is reclaiming the symbols used against her as a symbol of power to use against the system and people that put her in her position.
With Jesper and Wylan, I can definitely see it going both ways and I guess it also depends on what shades of the colours you’re imagining for each of them. For me, Wylan is orange because it can be a quiet, beautiful sunrise but it can also be fire and rage, it can be dark and deeply lonely but it can also be bright and blazing, it can be the first light of home in the dark but it can also be the flames of righteousness. “You were angry. I needed you righteous” “well, you’ve got me”. I realise all/most colours have a natural dual nature but I think orange does particularly and I think that it compliments him wonderfully. I connect Jesper to green for brightness, fun, the “lime green” clothes and vibrant plaid, but also for the farm and the card tables and the painful difference between them - the way his life split in two like a log cut down the middle (I don’t have my book with me so not quoting, but he says something along those lines in Crooked Kingdom when talking about how he ended up moving from the university to the Barrel).
I think the one’s who were always connected the same way were Nina to red and Kaz to black, and I wanted to add a couple of reasons I didn’t see anyone mention yet and that would be Nina being the “little red bird” and Kaz wearing black, mercher suits to mock them and to look, by Ketterdam’s colour-represented social hierarchy that I could talk about forever, like he fits in with them in the upper echelon of society.
And most people also maintained Matthias with blue, connections to water, ice, storms, but I think also it’s worth emphasising his blue eyes that Nina finds so beautiful
I will go through later and tag everyone who has responded so far in this post so everyone can see the results if they want to, thanks to everyone who responded ❤️
