how do you take pictures of your traditional art? they always look clean and detailed, no folds or shadows, not blurry, the angle is right etc. do you just use a phone camera? where do you place the light source? do you edit them to change contrast etc or are they unedited? how do you make sure the camera angle is right?

I'm gonna write it like this so hopefully I won't start unnecessary rambling:

I use my phone to take pics & edit them

I often have the light source on my side, so it hits indirectly to the artwork

Sometimes I do need to use two light sources and/or put the artwork in odd angles just so there's no weird shadows, folds (I'm rather careless with my sketchbook) or unwanted glowing (if freshly done oil painting)

Sometimes I've had to hold the paper with the very verge of my finger(s) and/or roughly tape the back to a solid surface to reduce the folding or wavy paper (like with watercolor or gouache etc)

I try to have at least two sides (like up and down, or right and left) matching with these lines/limits so I know it's more or less parallel to the artwork

I touch the screen to make it focus again (I think this is just an instinctual move but sometimes it is useful) and, depending on how my phone shows it, I will also touch up the light before taking the picture

I crop the pictures and with the two aligned sides, even if they're not entirely straight, I normally don't have to re-take them or edit the perspective (it might distort the image)

Since my lightning isn't really good, editing is kind of a must... Depending on your phone you can just use the system's editing features, but mine is kinda terrible so I use Snapseed (it's free and has a lot of features)

Left is unedited and right is the edit. I don't think I can give you editing tips, I just touch things until it looks fine to me.

These two are unedited. I didn't touch the background. Left (acrylic) is with a warm, softer light and right (oil) is with a white, "harsher" one. I think left had the light mostly frontal, right was on the left side. Do keep that in mind when taking your pictures and/or editing them. Snapseed has an option for balancing the whites (?), so it helps fix those warm/cold-toned issues.
