i know i’ve been kind of on an angry political rampage this week so i’d like to take a moment to pause, refresh, and say—
look at this snow-woman i made today!!! it snowed here for the first time in forever enough to actually stick and make a real snowman so here you go, my masterpiece: ‘snow on the beach’ style

WE HAVE POWER
I didn't post here about it, but we lost power during the Texas Freeze this week. It went out at 5am on Wednesday, and came back around 4:30pmish on Friday (today). So we went 60 hours without power! Without heat!
We were fine, though. We had lamps and fake candles and a camper stove, and lots of layers and blankets. We played board games & card games. And we had a power bank and our cars to charge our phones. And we didn't lose water, which is great.
I was worried about the cats, but they cuddled up with eachother, and with us, and we covered them with blankets a lot.
When the power came back on, and the heater came back on, Mr. Kelsey was literally sitting on the table w/ his face up towards the vent, lol.
Our only casualties was some food. And we had one small tree limb fall. And the bamboo in the backyard. And...I lost my Duolingo Streak...again lol.
Anyway.
Power's back. And I can work on my Most Listened Artists of January 2023 video finally lol

Tomorrow morning this will be gone. The temperature will go above freezing, cars will be driving, dogs will be walked, children will play, and the air will lose its stillness.
Tonight, though, it's just me and the sound of wind chimes and snow. No airplanes descending into the airport, no loud car radios, no motorcycles, no street racing, no street preachers. Everything is so, so still. The weather forecast said 4" inches of snow tonight. I haven't seen proper snow in years.
Everyone I love is safe in their homes. My cats are warm and dry. We have food and no need to go anywhere when we wake up. It's a beautiful night in Houston.

living in texas is insane not only because of the racism, queerphobia, & misogyny that is far too prevalent (ESPECIALLY in the government, in part due to the extreme voter suppression) but also because one time they let 250 people freeze to death all because state republicans didn't want federal regulation of the power grid. and then they just, moved on like nothing had really happened...

Local cynic in the south sees legitimate snowfall for first time in over decade: is struck by uncharacteristic Childlike Whimsy and Holiday Spirit as result. More at 11.

First-ever Blizzard Warning issued along Gulf Coast as deadly winter storm slams Texas
Jan. 21, 2025 - Fox Weather
A powerful and deadly winter storm that has been sweeping across the South dumped heavy snow in Houston and other communities in southern Texas on Tuesday, causing significant impacts on travel and even prompting forecasters to issue the first-ever Blizzard Warning for portions of the Gulf Coast...
Snow totals ranged from about 2-4 inches across the greater Houston area. According to the National Weather Service, William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) picked up 3 inches of snow on Tuesday, making it the most snow in one day since Jan. 30, 1949, when 3.1 inches fell.
This is now the third-snowiest day on record at the airport...

yall we be stocking up for this winter storm. We went to Sam’s and Walmart today and got whatever. I’m super excited to forcibly get blocked from internet access when our power goes out and Entergy takes 3-5 business days to restore power.
