Me before completing the forest temple: okay I get that ocarina of time is fun and nostalgic for people but it’s a bit of a stretch to call it one of the greatest video games of all time
Me after completing the forest temple: By revealing that Link is not a Kokiri, but a Hylian, the game effectively strips him of his humble origins amongst a group of people that already fail to recognize him in his adult form. Thus, kokiri village instantly becomes a location that is no longer Link’s home in any sense, exacerbated by the fact that the game now loads up in the temple of time instead of Link’s bedroom— he is a stranger in the only place that has ever been familiar to him and he is depressingly reduced to his destiny alone. However, the subsequent introduction of the time travel mechanic, which allows the player to travel from the horrific apocalyptic future back to the idyllic past of Link’s childhood, gives new meaning to the idea of this “destiny”. In effect, Link is not a stock “chosen one”, but a protagonist who consciously decides to fight onwards. Link’s dual existence as a child who knows the grim future and as an adult who was powerless to stop disaster gives a sort of desperation to his character, because while it brings the player relief to revisit the Castle Town that is populated by cheerful villagers instead of lurking zombies, the story can only be progressed through the acknowledgement of reality — the decision to make those seven years pass again. Therefore, both the player and Link as a character must be proactive in their heroism and make the conscious choice to struggle onwards despite the darkness that permeates—

Speaking of John Romita Jr.' take on villains. His depiction of Otto in the JMS arc is my favourite. And it mostly come down to the haircut John gives him, it's perfect for Otto. It's styled better than the bowl cut he used to have, fits really the "dignified professor" vibe and the white temples are perfect for a Doc Ock who's been at it for a while.

Watching a 20-year retrospective on the making of the LOTR movies, and I’m slowly starting to believe these films are one of the great masterworks of human history. So much love and creativity was poured into them from so many people. A million tiny details to create something that feels so real and beautiful to us. It’s so incredible.

I'd like to share a personal story that happened to me during my break.
I have a long distance partner. He lives a few states away. Most of the time he drives up to my state to visit, but in January I decided to fly down to his state. I've never flown before, so I was incredibly nervous. The first two flights went well. No issues, just slight turbulence. The vacation was great, albeit exhausting. But the flight home. Oh boy.
The first flight was fine. On the second flight, I felt someone tap my shoulder. I turned around in my seat but no one had actually tapped my shoulder. My immediate thought was "This is a warning from Hermes. Something is going to happen." The rest of the flight was okay and we landed just fine. Then, we stopped moving. They wouldn't let us off the runway for 30 minutes. Then when we finally got to the terminal, they still wouldn't let us leave. Something about connecting the plane to electricity so they could turn the engine off. It took about an hour/hour and a half to get off the plane. Then it took about fifteen minutes just to get my luggage. I retrieved my things and headed off to the next gate.
After a while of waiting at the gate, the flight kept getting delayed. Again. And again. And again. After the third time, they cancelled it. I was stuck at the airport with no ability to drive. I went to the airline desk, but there was a massive line. They closed the desk before I got to talk to anyone. The next flight out was 3 days away. I started crying. I was stuck in an airport four hours away by car from home. I called my friends, they calmed me down, and agreed to drive down to me to pick me up and bring me home the next day. But I would have to wait.
I stayed up all night for fear of my luggage being stolen. All of the food places were locked away behind TSA, which I couldn't go back through without a boarding pass. So I was stuck with the steak jerky, popcorn, and small bag of cookies I had in my backpack until morning (there was a single restaurant in the main lobby that was closed until 7am). I pulled myself together, hunkered down on a bench, and waited.
13 hours later, my friend finally arrived to take me home. The road trip was actually kind of fun, though exhausting. But I finally got home. Finally.
I'm grateful to Lord Hermes for the warning. And I'm even more grateful that he provided me with a way home.
Has Lord Hermes helped you through a rough travel situation?

Me, before playing Honest Hearts: I've left the Mormon church because I was unable to reconcile the Plan of Salvation doctrine, which honestly supports and validates the existence of trans and non-binary people if anything, with the Church's stance on trans and non-binary people. I have complicated feelings about it and I'm unsure how I identify religiously, which is complicated by the fact that I converted to Mormonism of my own choice when I was in my early 20's, but I still believe the teachings to be mostly true at their core, and I hope that the Church comes around one day and changes their stance on LGBTQ+ people so I can maybe re-join. Me, after playing Honest Hearts for the first time: oh my god I was in a cult.
