So Idk if this is a reasonable question or not but I thought it would be better to ask than not to: So I'm endeavoring to write a kids picture book and in it there's a little girl who's Black with a physical disability, probably moderately quadriplegic, and I was wondering about what kind of hairstyles might be realistic for her to potentially have?

Like I know she could technically have anything that a real person could have, but like I don't want to just pick something out for the character just based on how *I* think somethings looks without having a context I don't have yet if that makes sense?

She's about 5 or 6 and she's able to use her hands but she'll have spasticity in them and be using adaptive equipment, and she can move but she'll be in a wheelchair most of the time, so Idk how that might factor into how she/her parents might kind of style her hair?

(it won't really come up in the story since it's about her first day of school, but like more from a design standpoint)

Also idk if this matters to add but I wouldn't be personally doing the art, I'd probably try and connect with someone to illustrate, but I would like to try and have some pretty concrete descriptions for them to work with when the time comes.

That's a good way to summarize my mentality, and I appreciate you catching that! I do get frustrated when people approach writing people different than them as "well is it yes or no" when that's not what it is. It's "put effort into it or leave it alone". Because many things can be done! We can be in any story! It just has to be done with...wait for it... INTENT!

As for your question, she's an industrious child because I was not doing my own hair at 5 and 6 lol. That's a young age for hair. Maybe a ponytail or afro puff at best. I think it would be okay if you allowed her parents to do her hair, which does lead back to her being able to have any style that she might like. Maybe something with less barrettes and such, since they might fall out and she may struggle to put them back in.

So my suggestion would be to look up hairstyles little Black girls, and go through your options and pick one!

lots of different reactions across fandom to the end of the show. just something that i think might help ease angst a LITTLE bit.

spoilers below regarding what the arcane symbolizes and what the events of ep8 and sort of ep9 symbolize beyond the show/meta to the show.

a usual game is 5v5 (10 champions). we have 10 main character champions excluding the cameos to unify lore. 5 are alive in the shows world by the end of ep 9 (Singed, Warwick, Cait, Vi, Ekko). 5 are not present in this world at the end of the game (Heimer, Viktor, Jayce, Jinx, Ambessa)

bear in mind the Arcane seems to link timelines. in my opinion, the Arcane is used narratively to explain the fact that thousands of LoL games happen with different combos of characters in them, and that in each game different teams and combos will win. in the utopia world, vi, jayce, cait, and Viktor don't feature because perhaps it's not a timeline (game) that has those champions in it.

thus, the arcane IS LoL the game/LoL the universe, and each game represents the war happening in one specific timeline. thus, all your favs are alive and well in other timelines (games), just not in this specific timeline's (game) story.

this is very interesting because even if they don't make shows for every possible combo of champions, because they can't (too expensive) they can explain ONE origin story per champion as represented within the game, and any combo fan stories fans create could be technically canon for that combo of champs!

I think its a clever bit of writing and a nod to the Summoners (human players of LoL, each of whom play a champion in a game) and how the overall structure of the game works. as far as art and storytelling, this is excellently done to achieve their objective of trying to bring their dozens of champions' lore into a more cohesive state, to deepen the characters' backstories, and celebrate the lore work for a game that's still played over a decade later.

however, if fans (of the game or just the show or both) expected a show exclusively about their favs that will give them a happy ending, then it's impossible and people will naturally be disappointed. but each of the 10 champs have main fans, and since the entire premise of the game AND show is combat, there isn't a way for all 10 to have happy endings.

so, if it helps solo fans of one main or so, then reframing it within the context of this being one timeline -- one game, one iteration of champions put together in a world, hopefully that eases the pain of narrative directions you didn't like.

Thinking again about how I really liked the moments Harry and Curt had with each other in the game - their interactions in the EMF scene above, the mission to try and save him at the abandoned zoo, etc. - but that I also wish that relationship had gotten more development onscreen, especially before everything goes wrong with the symbiote.

The thing is…you’re absolutely right, I do. But, another thing is that my “modern au” isn’t actually “mine”. It’s actually shared between my sister and I, and she’s the writer out of us so she has the story mainly. It’s also not, well, ‘made’ like an average au so I can’t really just explain it.

Maybe one day I’ll make my own separate modern au I could actually post about, but I’m still obsessed with the characters and concepts we made together, so I can’t really post in-depth about it. T-T

I be semi back into mega man and I’ve been thinking about why-despite it objectively being more known-it was harder to get people into compared to getter and I think it’s chalked up to the gameplay comes first over any story stuff. MM lore is still insane and a funny rabbit hole to fall into but its not what people think about when they think about this franchise past a basic plot summary, they think about a grueling platformer with freedom to do the stages in any order. But playing all these games, especially if platformers aren’t you thing, doesn’t give you all the lore context given this was a series made in the late 80s and continued up to the 2010s, so pieces of lore were kept to manuals or sometimes even interviews. Sure, a lot of people are use to outside sources for lore, but given how many games there are even if you could pretty much take away the first series out of it to make it seem clearer, you still have to deal with the fact the lord didn’t really pick up until the third platformer because X didn’t know if it wanted to be episodic like classic or actually be more serious- which among other reasons lead it to probably be the messiest series in terms of lore. And then there’s the fact you can’t even recommend someone to read a manga or watch a anime for lore retellings because all of the mangas basically are their own takes of games and anime? Lol despite some games having animated cutscenes the ones who got the anime privilege was the RPG games which everyone in the lore circles always ignore because it’s a separate timeline.

Basically: Mega Man really be “gameplay first, lore bits second” and given I meet a lot of people who don’t play many platformers/are good at them, + the factor there's multiple fucking series which makes it slightly confusing or overwhelming to a outsider, yeah me recommending niche mecha show that’s somewhat convoluted tends to be the better option.

i'm gonna be honest horrortale has never been scary to me,, the character designs are pretty generic imo, and i get the whole concept is basically "oh yea the normal ut cast got all kinds of fucked after frisk left" but that's still just not very compelling??

i can see the concept of famine driving ppl to desperation but i cannot get behind the eating humans part because first off WHERE are they getting all those humans, second if eating humans makes monsters all Big And Scary And Fucked Up why is papyrus the only mildly interesting character design in the dang au

idk i just think it could really push the actual Horror aspect a bit more, when you've already got a buncha monsters i dont think it would hurt to really push that they ARE monsters, especially in a situation as desperate as they're in

gotta say, i'm def way more willing to—not overlook but tolerate—some (keyword: some) blatant cheesecake or Sex Appeal™ in comics when the artist has a certain level of technical skill and/or strong compositions (ie Bachalo or Ramos) vs like... artists who sacrifice page composition and readability solely to draw cheesecake and thus actively sabotage their own sequential work (Sandoval...) especially the ones without the technical skill (... like the porn tracers who can't keep character appearance even sort of consistent...)
