Building and sharpening intellectual capabilities and team collaborations through games in an infocalypse era
Whether you live in a free world or in an authoritarian world, whether you have access to ChatGPT or state censor AI ChatGPTs, whether even you are exposed to AI generated information, what we collectively need is to build up the intellectual capabilities of our brain so that we won't be ruled by the information without able to critically evaluate the information.
Whether you choose to live in your virtual world or you want to live and stay in connections with the real world real people, building up team collaboration skills to solve problems and achieve shared goals are critical to the continuity of human societies and humanity because human beings are social beings. I am not a reality game shows fans may be most of those game shows are junk soap series. However, there are a few I recommend highly in this context. These three South Korean games series are:
Hotbrain: problematic man TVn network
It was a weekly team games competition program that focused on various types of IQ and appetitute tests problems set by the executive production team, sometimes focused with a theme. The cast for this program were 6 male hosts, all university and post graduated qualified. The hosts were well known to South Korea as as "men with hot brains" (i.e. highly intellectual actors).
The cast was given clues to guess the identity of each episode's special guest(s) who were selected. Two competiting teams would be formed by mixing 3 of the male hosts and the 3 special guests from overseas and South Korea. The competiting teams were given a set of IQ and appetitute tests quizzes to solve or social topics to debate. The rules were that all problems and quizzes for each episode must be solved before the filming could end. The winners team could go home on time and the guest members of the winning team could get their dreamed bucket prizes. The loser team would need to stay until the additional questions and problems were resolved.
2. Problematic Men: Brain Wanderers. It was the sequel of the Hotbrain Problematic Men. The program was an outdoor situational problem solving contests. The 6 host members of previous season travelled to universities and companies in South Korea. In each episode, the hosts were split into 2 teams of 3 people to search people who they thought are hidden brianics in the place and each team selects one to join, and the 2 teams go against each other in a battle of problem solving the IQ, deduction and appetitude test questions and puzzles. Winners could go home on time with the special guests got their dream prizes given. Losers needed to stay behind until they could solve additional questions. The teams were required to work among themselves by sharing knowledge to solve the problems and quizzes. 3. Netflix's The Devil's Plan
Also a South Korean casts based teams competition reality show. 12 public celebrities from South Korean best known for their high intellectual capabilities to face off each other in games of wit, strategy and wisdom over 6 nights and 7 days. The team they formed from time to time needed to successfully complete each stage before entering the final game. The games were designed to make sure each contestant and the teams and alliances they formed from time to time were won by exercise of strategies, widsom, IQs, competition and co-operations. The teams revealed to them what kind of people they were when they competed among and against each other and collaborated with each other. Each team member was given chances to reflect throughout the shows. The games tested not just their abilities to win but their integrity and personalities throughout the processes. Was it the devil's plan driving them to win or did the final champion won by the best exercises of intelligence, integrity, team building and leadership ability? The games were like the major mirrors fully brought out the hidden sides of human natures. In each round of eliminations, the players' intense emotional displays revealed something deep about human natures so as how the contestants decided to form and choose their alliances or betrayed or even played the bad side to unfairly elbow out others. During the games and after the game shows, some of the built close friendship because of the bonds they found. In strategic foresight, games are important tools to help people to vision different futures. But to survive HUMANITY in an AI anthropocene era, we need more fundamental games that can inspire, build up, sharpen, challenge and deepening human intellectual capabilities, problems solving abilities, strategic thinking abilities to resolve problems TOGETHER as a team because this is the REALITY of human societies. If we don't want to see the undesirable future in which AI may rule over human beings because human beings loss our brains' INTELLECTUAL capacities and inter-personal and social skills to form teams, alliances communities and societies in the reverse evolution process triggered by AI, especially super AIs or superhuman AIs.
Human brains are like other organs, more demanding than other organs of our bodies, that needed constant 'exercises' to grow the capabilities. One of the greatest existential threats post by AI to the future of humanity as a COLLECTIVE highly intelligent species that are able to form and sustain a democratic, open, civilised world is those who develop AIs, those who abuse and mis-use AIs want to take away human beings' AWARNESS, WILLINGNESS, COURAGE AND DETERMINATION to continually develop human intellectual abilities.
When I watched these three programs, I needed to pause my screen many times to understand the translated languages of the rules of the games. I felt like before even I understood how the games were played out, I needed to understand the language first.
Neuroscientists discover that when we continually learn new things, the neurons of our brain continue to thrive and extend. At least they don't wither as fast as compare to another individual who doesn't regularly learn new things. The more we exercise our thinking capabilities and acquire new thinking methods, the more we can enhance human intelligence.
Do we want to be ruled BY the AIs under the autocracy of those who impose AIs to us or do we want to be masters of our own technologies COLLECTIVELY? If the answer is abilities to MASTER AIs COLLECTIVELY and INDIVIDUALLY BY HUMANS, then we need games that build humanity fundamentally. At least to the minimum, the games we watch stimulate us to learn something new and reflect something deep.

retired ghoap going on a renovation competition show
ghost takes over the budget and he's ruthless with it; tracking every paint swatch and piece of lumber down to the last cent, haggling for every purchase and making the most of their coupons. soap's in charge of design; he can visualise floor plans better than anyone, seeing the completed spaces in his mind when they’re little more than a steel shell
they run their site like a military base, treating their builders like rookies; expecting them to follow orders but also waiting for them to inevitably mess up so they can fix it
they're an immediate shock to the judges; they fully expected them to have no idea what they're doing, to have no understanding of style or trends, but they didn't sign up just for shits and giggles
they know how to hit a brief and can do physical labour faster than the actual builders. with soap's discerning eye and ghost's practically, they design gorgeous rooms and become a real threat for the prize money. they handle the stress and sleepless nights like it's second nature bc really, it is; a few all nighters painting are nothing compared to being shot at
they also take great joy in messing with the other couples
it takes a while for them to figure out they're even married; they argue like it's going out of fashion, never holding their opinions or frustrations back but it's their love language as much as their banter. you can hear them barking at each other from across the site; callsigns and “It” and “sergeant” thrown around just like in the field
the challenges are where they have the most fun
the day to day? that's work; they're strict, both with themselves and the schedule, never letting anything fall behind or go incompleted. but the challenges? that's play time. they love pushing the brief, toeing the line of the rules purely bc they can
they get to a two part art challenge and ghost's scheming before before the host even opens their mouth. part one? one half of the couple has to design some kind of art piece that will feature in their house. part two? the other person has to gather supplies and tools and make the art
there's a time limit for how long they can take to gather the supplies; once it's up, they can't go back for more and they can only use what they can carry themselves to their station. they're in a warehouse filled with scrap and paint and tools, the choices almost overwhelming
ghost politely interrupts the host to ask for a clarification; absolutely anything in the warehouse can be used so long as they can carry it?
the host confirms; anything under the roof is their's to use
ghost thanks them and steps back in line, standing at attention and waiting for round one to start
ghost volunteers to be the one to do the art, shocking everyone since soap is well known as the artist of the two of them. but soap sees the mischief in his eyes; he knows he's up to something and can't wait to see where it goes
the timer starts and ghost immediately shucks his hoodie and gets to grabbing; stuffing the impromptu bag with everything he recognises from soap's own supplies. there's seconds to go when he bolts for soap, throwing him over his shoulder in a fireman's carry
the other couples are pissed and call it cheating, trying to get them disqualified
ghost just shrugs, soap still over his shoulder, "they said we can use anything we can carry. i followed the brief"
soap just laughs like a mad man
they win the challenge by a landslide
everything's going smoothly, they've won enough room reveals that they’re in a good financial position, they’re ahead in their current room and in a great headspace
then soap gets injured
it's an honest mistake, a part of the roof they thought was stable collapsing and hitting soap
and ghost, always calm and in control, panics
he's on the other side of the site when he hears soap cry out and goes running; shoving past cameramen and builders, screaming to know what happened before he even sees him. he finds soap on the ground, blood dripping from his temple and it's too familiar; a thing he sees in his nightmares
he doesn't know what to do with all his fear so instead, he channels it into anger
he goes off on all his builders, demanding to know how they could be so useless and careless as to miss the unstable roof; screaming at them in a way he hasn't done since he was on active duty, tearing down a rookie for poor trigger management
all the while, his gentle hands tend to soap; checking the wound, if he's concussed, soothing him before he can slip into a flashback of his own. he growls at the cameras, doesn't let the onsite medics anywhere near him; he doesn't know them, doesn't trust them with his johnny. it's only soap's gentle convincing that makes him step back, that forces him to stop and breathe; glaring the medics down from soap's side as they check him and come to the same conclusion soap already reached
he'll be iust fine; a few stitches and he'll be right back in it
ghost goes with him to the hospital to get the stitches laid, abandoning the site to their terrified builders to look after. it takes a few days before he can handle them being separated again, can't even handle one of them going shopping while the other site manages
but soap doesn't begrudge him for his clinginess, not when he knows it's rooted in the fear of losing him. he just keeps him close and calls him his good luck charm when they win the room reveal that week

Sam & Jamie are the youngest players on the team. They both have superstar potential brewing. Jamie knows it and is egotistical. Sam does not know it and is humble. Season one shows Jamie can be cruel. He needs a lot of work, not as an athlete but as a team player. He’s miserable. So he’s a selfish prick.
Season one shows Sam is insecure. He needs a lot of work, as an athlete to reach his potential with individual skill. He’s miserable but trying his best.
In the background we learn Jamie has a mostly absentee father, that only cares about his son through his sporting ability. He’s cruel and a driving menacing force in his son’s life.
In the background we learn Sam has a constant loving role model as a father, who cares about him completely. He’s kind and a driving force inspiring his son’s life.
And in season 2 when Sam & Jamie are thrust back together. With so much tension between them, it’s so sweet to see Jamie constantly hanging onto Sam.
Jamie was always jealous of Sam’s relationship with his father. And belittled him to cover it.
In season 2 Jamie looks up to Sam. Instead of being jealous or cruel. He apologizes, he supports Sam.
Sam supports Jamie as a person. Jamie supports Sam as an athlete.
They both grow - together.
Building up to their season 3 tributes to each other.
I love how subtle it is in season 2. Sam always letting Jamie just cling to him.

#keese draws#oc art#oc#pmd#pokemon#pokemon mystery dungeon#pmd oc#these guys are inspired by my usual pokerogue team#oh also imagine a question mark after every he/him I have the trans woman beam pointed at all of them#these are just initial concepts for the actual characters themselves now that I’ve developed the world a lil bit#but yeah these 4 were childhood friends who wanted to be in an exploration team together but had to split up for years#tart and quart both had to move away and cart ended up leaving his hometown to try and become a real adventure a few months later#cart and bart remained in contact for a few years before cart got caught up in some crime circles#he was incredibly trusting when he was younger so he got taken advantage of and ended up digging himself a deeper hole in an attempt to be#manipulative back and eventually he got scared enough that he tried to reach out to a guild and acted as a spy for them in turn for them#eventually helping to clear his name and allowing him membership#there were parts of the deal that were unfair and kind of shady but he was desperate enough to pretend he didn’t notice#after he joined he started immediately putting out listings for new team members and he fully planned on being super picky#but when two of his childhood friends applied he was over the moon about it#and immediately accepted both of them#now quart also applied because he had recently ran away from his old life and was desperate to have a new one#and he missed his old friends deeply so when he saw one of them actually managed to start building the team they all wanted to make he was#quick to apply even if he was rusty as hell on normal non contest combat#cart didn’t recognize him at first and mostly only let him have a trial run because he thought it was funny that an eevee of all things was#applying for a high level exploration team and he fully planned on telling quart off immediately afterwards#this ofc made quart very upset and angry but he didn’t try to clairify who he was because he just assumed that time had made cart into an#asshole which isn’t wrong per say but quart didn’t realize cart didn’t recognize him#it was a rough trial expedition but cart found himself actually quite impressed with quart’s slight of paw skills and his impressive biting#speed so he decided to give quart a real chance instead of a mocking one#eventually quart laughs for the first time around him and that makes cart realize who he is and that makes him feel horrible

Man, I feel very "old man yells at clouds/back in my days" right now, but powercreep has made the game so... unfun.
Sure it's nice to do things faster when you're in a hurry, but when all challenge in open world group fights is gone and meta bosses melt in less than 2 minutes...
I don't want to play an autoclicker when I open gw2, but it's really starting to feel like it.

Looking at what we have so far, i‘m starting to think sora might not end up as a ninja
now i know this might sound weird at first, but throughout the first season she repeatedly has problems with a lot of things the ninja normally do, such as the training course. Looking at the trailers and leaks for season 2, she also doesn‘t seem to be able to learn spinjitzu, which is like the number one ninja thing in this universe. And lastly, from the start we see her using a mech to fight most of the time, although she does leave it behind in part 2 for some reason. Now this could very well be the message that everybody can learn to be a ninja, which i am completely cool with and which wiuld be very much in character for the series. However it would also be cool if they had some more variation in the team, by having sora eventually become a samurai instead of a ninja. Maybe she works that out alongside nya or Pixal once the latter returns.
