I wasn't going to derail the disability pride month post for people with peanut allergies but in relation to that topic
I have never seen another allergy that has been so viscerally hated and mocked by people working in education like nut allergies. I've seen fellow teachers cringe that their classroom was the "nut free" classroom that year. Support staff that are trained and willfully don't follow cross contamination protocol in the lunchroom because it's too "tedious" or "time-consuming". Full preschools + childcare centers that refuse to accommodate nut allergies. Schools where the only free lunch is a PB&J. Before/after school programs and summer programs whose food curriculum has nuts and doesn't provide an alternative activity.
Allergy discrimination is so so insidious and prevalent. It's happening behind their back and it is everything from the exposure joke to possibly causing someone to go into anaphylaxis from willful ignorance.
Also other parents in the classroom are guilty too. The "not my child not my problem" brain rot means that those lunchboxes are like bombs for airborne exposure allergies

PLEASEEEE you cannot convince me that Poseidon going "in all my years of living, it isn't very often that i get pissed off" isnt the same thing as your elementary teacher going "in my 20 years of teaching, i have never had a less well behaved class".

Searching best practices on JSTOR
Hi Tumblr researchers,
As promised, we're going to dive into some best practices for searching on JSTOR. This'll be a long one!
The first thing to note is that JSTOR is not Google, so searches should not be conducted in the same way.
More on that in this video:
youtube
Basic Search on JSTOR
To search for exact phrases, enclose the words within quotation marks, like "to be or not to be".
To construct a more effective search, utilize Boolean operators, such as "tea trade" AND china.
youtube
Advanced Searching on JSTOR
Utilize the drop-down menus to refine your search parameters, limiting them to the title, author, abstract, or caption text.
Combine search terms using Boolean operators like AND/OR/NOT and NEAR 5/10/25. The NEAR operator finds keyword combinations within 5, 10, or 25 words of each other. It applies only when searching for single keyword combinations, such as "cat NEAR 5 dog," but not for phrases like "domesticated cat" NEAR 5 dog.
Utilize the "Narrow by" options to search for articles exclusively, include/exclude book reviews, narrow your search to a specific time frame or language.
To focus your article search on specific disciplines and titles, select the appropriate checkboxes. Please note that discipline searching is currently limited to journal content, excluding ebooks from the search.
youtube
Finding Content You Have Access To
To discover downloadable articles, chapters, and pamphlets for reading, you have the option to narrow down your search to accessible content. Simply navigate to the Advanced Search page and locate the "Select an access type" feature, which offers the following choices:
Tumblr media
All Content will show you all of the relevant search results on JSTOR, regardless of whether or not you can access it.
Content I can access will show you content you can download or read online. This will include Early Journal Content and journals/books publishers have made freely available.
Once you've refined your search, simply select an option that aligns with your needs and discover the most relevant items. Additionally, you have the option to further narrow down your search results after conducting an initial search. Look for this option located below the "access type" checkbox, situated at the bottom left-hand side of the page.
Additional resources
For more search recommendations, feel free to explore this page on JSTOR searching. There, you will find information on truncation, wildcards, and proximity, using fields, and metadata hyperlinks.

Eddie has the band over and they’re jamming together on a live-stream when Steve gets off work and interrupts them. He’s all smiles when he’s like, “Hey, guess what. One of my students called me the D-word today.”
Eddie; One of your students called you a dumbass and you’re happy about it?
Steve: No
Jeff: Then why are you smiling?
Steve: They didn’t-
Gareth: Did they call you a douchebag?
Grant: Dipshit?
Steve: Dad! One of my students called me dad today.
The band:
The band: Oh
Eddie: That’s great! How many times is that now?
Steve: Thirteen!

In today's rapidly changing world, the role of technology in education has become increasingly important. With the advent of online learning platforms, it is now possible to teach students in ways that were previously unimaginable. One such platform that has been making waves in the world of education is Extramarks.

i feel like dream in human aus is usually characterized as being more stoic and stern while hob is more easygoing, but i think it would be funny to have a university au where hob is the professor who's like "no work is deserving of 100%. find 27 more sources and do it again" while dream is just like "they put their dreams into it, hob 🥺 A+! A+! A+! A+!"

the two biggest pieces of advice that i would express to anyone thinking about grad school are
1) do not pay for grad school. i am dead serious on this one. this was the number one thing every single professor i had in undergrad expressed to me. going to a grad school that doesn’t offer tuition remission or teaching or any type of funding so you can complete the work you need to do is not worth going into debt for don’t do it don’t do it don’t do it because—
2) besides the obvious (the degree) grad school offer you two things (ideally they offer both); training or access. by training i mean rigorous high level hands on practice honing your skills in your chosen field; by access i mean connection to people/institutions/funding to help support whatever work or research you’re doing. (i think that at least in the arts broadly speaking, it is easier to find training than it is to gain access.) i think it’s extremely important to weigh out what you’re getting out of a specific program and decide not only what is more important to you but also what opportunities a school is offering you

“Teach Me Gently, Guide Me Kindly”
Summary: While struggling with a challenging lesson, you find solace in Anaxa’s patient and gentle guidance. What begins as a simple study session turns into a quiet, meaningful moment of connection, as he helps you understand difficult concepts with care and warmth.

The cool breeze of the evening swept through the open windows of the study hall, rustling the papers on the desk. You were seated at one of the many tables, half-focused on the lesson, your mind wandering with thoughts of the day. The quiet hum of the building and the soft tapping of Anaxa’s chalk against the board helped you stay in the moment, though your mind had a tendency to wander.
Anaxa, ever patient, turned back from the chalkboard and caught your gaze. His one eye softened in amusement, and a slight smile tugged at his lips. “You seem distracted,” he said, his voice low but gentle.
You chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of your neck. “I guess... it’s just hard to focus with all these new concepts,” you admitted, your voice trailing off in a sheepish tone.
Anaxa’s smile widened as he stepped closer, leaning against the desk near you. “You’re not alone in that feeling,” he reassured you, his voice carrying an unexpected warmth. “Learning can be difficult, but that’s why I’m here.” He reached over and gently placed a hand on your open notebook, pointing to a particular equation. “Let’s go over it together.”
You felt your heart flutter, not from the complexity of the lesson, but from the tenderness in his words. There was something about Anaxa’s presence that made everything feel less intimidating. Maybe it was his calm demeanor or the fact that he always made sure you felt understood, but with him, learning seemed like less of a burden.
With a soft exhale, you nodded. “Okay, let’s try again.”
He leaned down a bit, his face close to yours as he explained the next step in the equation, his voice low and careful. “The key is in breaking it down. Each part has a purpose, a connection. See?” His finger traced along the page, guiding your hand over the numbers. “You’re very close, just trust the process.”
You couldn’t help but smile, feeling a little less pressure with his gentle guidance. You’d been working on this for hours, but with Anaxa, it almost felt like a quiet shared moment of peace amidst all the study. His presence was more comforting than you expected from someone with such a scholarly reputation.
When you finished the problem together, Anaxa leaned back, his smile full of quiet pride. “There you go. You did it.”
Your eyes sparkled with accomplishment, and you couldn’t suppress the small laugh of joy. “Thanks, Anaxa. I think I finally get it.”
He placed a hand over his chest, as if to modestly accept the gratitude. “It’s you who deserves the credit. I’m just here to help point the way.”
You looked up at him, meeting his gaze with a quiet warmth in your chest. “You’re a good teacher. I’m glad you’re here.”
Anaxa’s smile softened, and for a moment, he simply stared at you as if he were savoring the moment before he stood up. “I’m glad to be of assistance.” He made his way back to the board, his movements slow and purposeful.
The room grew quieter as you both returned to the lesson, but the air between you was comfortable, a gentle understanding that made everything feel just a little lighter.
And as the evening light faded and you worked through more lessons together, you couldn’t help but appreciate how much easier learning had become in his presence.

klance as university professors but no one knows they're married bc one (lance) willingly talks about his amazing husband all the time yet never seems to mention his occupation. and the other (keith) has to be needled into revealing anything about his husband (usually only obliging his students if no one failed the recent test which is rare)
they get found out a few years in when a student catches them kissing in the staff parking lot at the end of a semester
