Vibes based grading system.
(for @epistemologys, who wanted some post-canon, teacher WWX)
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#lan wangji#Thank you for participating in the raffle and for your patience! This was a really fun prompt!#I always loved it when teachers had bonus questions on assignments and tests. Especially if they were fun!#WWX strikes me as the type to have bonus assignments - but also his own chaotic system of what does and doesn't get a point.#Note; not arbitrary. It makes sense to him and anyone who's been around him long enough.#When one has to deal with a lot of things to grade it really does make a difference when something (positive or negitive) stands out.#(especially papers...oh god...shared essay topic grading is a special hell)#He would care that they understand the principals of what he's teaching. He'd also value students thinking outside of the box.#WWX would be hard to argue and *win* against but if the attempt is good enough? I think you'd have his respect and a little bonus point.#I like the idea of post-canon teachers wangxian. Grading papers together can be a love language.#Perhaps it is just a beautiful ending for a character to be able to rest and have stability.#This isn't what being a teacher is like. But in comparison to how WWX was living before? Peace and quiet.

In today's rapidly changing world, the role of technology in education has become increasingly important. With the advent of online learning platforms, it is now possible to teach students in ways that were previously unimaginable. One such platform that has been making waves in the world of education is Extramarks.

Reading Visser One’s book she always strikes me as one of those white women settlers that wanted to “save” Native Children from their culture.
This led to the Stolen Generation in Australia and residential schools in North America.
Heck when we see her in the series she is literally piloting a women of color’s body and cosplaying motherhood.
She thinks she is so much better then the colonist that want to just burn up villages.
She’s a white women liberal putting on a gentler face to what is at its end brutal colonialism.
It’s worth noting that alien invasions have been metaphors for colonization since War of the Worlds
I completely agree. There's a blog post I can't now find about older white women reacting to The Help by talking about how their housekeepers, nannies, cooks, etc. were "part of the family." Which — first of all, no. Your employee is your employee. The rights and respect you owe to your employee will always be different from those you owe to your family. Do not devalue their work, and thus the traditional work of women, by pretending that it isn't labor. But secondly...
"We're friends" or "we're family" sure is easy to say from a position of power. Anyone short on power but long on common sense understands the importance of ingratiating yourself to those in charge. Anyone in charge can choose to delude themself that this time when the kid goes "I love you, Miss Hannigan" they mean it. Such is the nature of power.
Like, one I think about all the time: my professor whom we called Professor Trelawney behind her back because she would constantly spout pseudoscience in class. She's not the least favorite teacher I've ever had, but she's on the short list — and on the day I graduated, she introduced herself to a family member as "Sol's one of my favorite students, and I'm probably Sol's favorite teacher." Why? Because I got her to think that. Why'd I do so? Because the semester before, Dr. W had knocked down my grade for "irrelevant discussion" after I argued with his statement that Ireland should still be ruled by England. I keep Dr. W, and the subsequent effect on Prof Trelawney, as my touchstone when I'm handling student conflict. Because. Such. Is the nature. Of power.
As people pointed out after watching Crash: any rich lady can hug her housekeeper any time she's feeling sad, and the worst the housekeeper can do is quit. Most housekeepers with any grasp of social norms wouldn't hug even their favorite boss even on her worst day, at least not without first getting explicit permission. Such is the nature of power.
And these are all softer examples, of positions that you have the legal right to walk away from. (Whether or not you can afford to quit your job is obviously a whole other ballgame.) When it's not just school or work, but it's your guardian or the person who literally owns you... Fuck. Kiss ass or die, I guess.
And if you want concessions, you'd better put in all the emotional work to get them. You have to be sad about being less powerful than the help-giver, but not too sad. You have to be completely helpless in the face of random misfortune, or else you don't deserve help. You have to be grateful when the help arrives, in such a way that makes it clear the helper mad your problem all better but that your problem was completely intractable without their intervention. Most of all, you better do it with a smile: I love you, Miss Hannigan.
#animorphs#visser#power#exploitation#racism#power dynamics#ingratiation#visser one#social psychology#crash#the help#social justice#slavery#rant#lies; damned lies; and “my students all love me”#in dr. w's (weak) defense: he not only lived in london in the 1990s but taught there#he had to teach his students how to recognize potential car bombs while out and about#so he can feel however he likes about the IRA#that said this is also the guy who argued the british museum can't give back stolen artifacts because they bring african tourists to the uk#so apparently in his mind “nigerian people are required to travel abroad to see nigerian artifacts” is sound moral logic

I know I’ve talked about this before cause I basically blogged my way through it but there was no catalyst for greater growth for me as a teacher than me having to read my student surveys my second year and being so caught off guard by how cruel so many of them were that I had to leave my classroom and go sob in an empty one for 15 minutes but then when I came back in (and in the following days) when I just felt so absolutely wrecked and wretched and vulnerable and scared but I HAD to keep going that it dawned on me that it literally didn’t matter what they said about me I still had the power of authority, NOT because of my personality or charisma or anything I had heretofore believed gave me the authority, but because it was literally my job and because if I said we were going to read twelfth night aloud or diagram sentences or memorize poetry that was literally what happened and I just cannot explain the bedrock of confidence that gave me because the worst had happened, all my darkest fears came true, and it didn’t matter. They still needed to learn and I had what I needed to make them learn. The job remained unchanged. Changed me forever tbh.
#and looking back I realize now that they didn’t hate me#but honestly it wouldn’t matter if they did and still doesn’t#because I can do my job (if I’m doing it right) even if they hate me#literally changed me as a person#I wouldn’t re-live it because it was like being stabbed to death with a blade#it hurt so badly lol.#reading WORDS#a whole bunch of them about how you are failing as a teacher and a person#is my worst nightmare!!!!#I still don’t read student surveys and I never will (I swap with another teacher) (and we filter)#but it is something to survive it#Also! I know I was not as bad as the meanest comments#and there were lots of nice ones in the positive section#but I was objectively new. and I was figuring it out. and I was trying things and it didn’t all work#and kids sense that like blood in the water#and their own immaturity makes them incapable of compassion#but again it was just kind of the so-what of it all#the surveys aren’t tied to how my administrators perceived me#it was just a box they had to check#and life kept going#and so did teaching#though you know what it is so funny the timing coincided with us reading the Pemberley scene in one of my classes#and I had no energy and no emotional vulnerability I was just dead and lifeless#but for whatever reason a scattered handful of the kids got excited and they set the tone#HEALED me. a little bit.#pride and prejudice is just always like ‘and if not Pemberley is still good’#and you know WHAT#anyway thanks for listening

fascinating recently to hear people including other biology professionals complain about how they feel like learning biology/taking biology intro classes had way too much boring memorization about random facts and that in fact all or most biology learning is about memorizing facts. because like... idk i did take lecture-based/textbook-based biology in high school but even then i never felt like the core of the thing was burdensome memorization?
there were definitely some things i committed to memory for a test and then dropped (e.g. i know i used to know a lot more about kidney anatomy or the order/structure of alternation of generations in bryophytes than i currently know, lots of terminology i've completely forgotten) but all of them had a sort of underlying set of... principles/ways things can be that fit into a picture of how biology can work and therefore eventually how it does work. like i don't remember kidney anatomy but i remember the general principle of using branching and folding to fit more epithelial surface area into an organ and that comes up a lot and lets you reason about when and why it's useful to have a lot of epithelial surface and what epithelial surfaces do. people get mad about it because it's not, like, physics (can learn a relatively limited set of math formulae that let you derive most things) or chemistry or economics (like physics but the formulae are kind of fake and people are deluding themselves a little about how true and generally applicable they are). but biology has a structure and a set of things that can happen and you can learn it deeply and well enough that you understand how to evaluate the probabilities of different things and how they fit together and what new information implies about other information
i'm just really perplexed by it because like. honestly i'm in this field because i had a really fun time learning biology and a really fun time discussing and teaching and coming up with ideas about biology and then i just kept doing it. and if people are really out here experiencing every Biology Fact as a completely discrete thing they have to memorize independently in an unfun boring slog.... well first of all i guess i'm vaguely surprised that you can have a biology research job while not connecting things together that way though that was probably shortsighted of me. but second of all i don't really understand why you would have ever bothered to do it because that sounds exhausting and really hard
#fundamentally i mostly do things i like doing.#i mean i can absolutely see how people could teach biology in a way that severely obscures the underlying principles#and/or demands memorizing an insane amount of trivia (that you shouldnt ask students to memorize bc in a live fire test#you can literally always look things up on pubmed if you understand what you're looking for)#so possibly this is also a Research Track Guy complaint and pre-meds have no choice but to live like this#but like. idk. it's so weird to discover that someone else who opted in to doing this full time doesn't.... like it#box opener

Something I love about the implications of the new ‘elemental’ weapons in totk is the idea that link is powering these things himself.
Like, in the first game the weapons were always on - they powered up whether they were being held or sheathed or even dropped. Give a monster a smack, drop it on the ground and it’ll light back up in a few seconds. Generally, this meant that link didn’t have magic, unlike other games in the series. Even the champion’s abilities were just that - the champion’s! He just indicated when to light it up!
But in totk it’s very different. Now, he’s crafting and powering his own gear. The gems were long theorised to be the main ingredient creating magic items, like elemental arrows or enchanted jewellery and armour, and now we have proof!! He’s even learned how to do it himself! Combining gems, or even monster parts to his weapons and lighting them up whenever he wants! Turns them on and off at will! He’s learned to channel magic sometime between botw and totk, something not all heroes learn to do! In fics he’s long been one of the few to have no magic talent whatsoever, and now that’s changed! Wild can officially join the ranks of the magic users!
There’s also the issue of where he learned it and who taught him, but the answer is pretty obvious, and speaks volumes of how far Zelda has come on her own journey.
#botw#totk#loz totk#loz link#wild lu#lu wild#tears of the kingdom#loz tears of the kingdom#tloz tears of the kingdom#tloz#loz#Imagine if pre calamity zelda had been instructed with teaching the champion magic. ohhh she would have burned.#the idea of link being good at magic - her thing - on top of everything else? she would have HATED it.#but now she's probably suggested it herself! she wanted to see if he could do it! she sat down and taught him what she learned#through the endless tutors and books and prayers and late night research and then a century of living as infinite light#its such a huge growth both mentally and magically. the useless student has become the experienced teacher. she's matured so much ToT#totk link#totk zelda#botw zelda#botw totk#botw tears of the kingdom

#he keeps falling asleep almost on my shoulder and waking up and readjusting but i want to tell him its ok weve seen a lot#of each other ive seen your brainwaves you called me crying a few nights ago. research partner right now is a potentiality#friend is a certainty. i met a banker passionate about finance. he said his advice made the lives of others better and he likes the numbers#more than he likes anything else. on a high rise near canary wharf the view was wonderful and the people even moreso#he said i loved her but i spent 33 grand on her and i cant do this anymore. his voice cracked talking about her. he did love her.#and she talked softly she grabbed my hand she bought me a pack of Marlborough gold she told me to snap#the russian menthol cigarettes of the tortured polish man near us with my teeth i kept staring at her teeth#bright white and sharp. i couldnt find her heartbeat but i did find warmth and i did find her lips and i did feel#how she felt pressed against a wall. a pretty boy held my hand and i gave him my number. i couldnt stop smiling about her no matter#how many runways youve walked on how many collections youve designed how many students youve taught. senior lecturer teaches me how to do#very unethical things ethically over a double shot of vodka made by the half-persian with broken farsi. she talks softly#and she says her eyes are hazel but they appear a shade of red. pure gold on her hands and leather on her back and her fingers on my lips#(she talks softly sees through me she says something i cant hear but i wont forget the way she flies) she talked to my research partner#about the possibility of moving to sunny dubai with the rest of her family and my heart felt pierced. on her arm i traces a tattoo of a#knife passing through a rose. she told me she thought there was romance in severing so i kissed her some more.#he sat me down and asked me what i loved and i told him and he said no romance no person no tragedy will take that from you.#the room was filled with a collection of people in love with something that wasnt a person and i kept looking at her.#red eyes bitten jawline beautiful hands. it is 3 degrees Celsius my head is on his shoulder i miss my friends#we walked out the lecture hall with arms linked a photo of two years ago and we both said#jesus christ. i miss you all. and i miss logic metatheory lectures. im glad i get to stare at the depth of your eyes#i wish i had met you years ago.#crushposting

#boku no hero academia fanart#Yabureme Aizawa AU#nomu aizawa#shouta aizawa#principal nezu#this is a response to an anon but it had a second prompt so I didn't want to answer it and then forget about the second one#but ya Nezu is one of the faculty that comes by super often when Yabureme is in Tartarus#there's always been a powerful mutual trust between these two before he was taken and Nezu only wants to help#the first time Yabureme is in Tartarus he is completely unresponsive but Nezu visits him every few days anyway in an effort to get#a response out of him. it doesn't work#but during his second stint in Tartarus he's more lucid and Nezu becomes a huge comfort as Aizawa is rediscovering himself#he's the reason Aizawa eventually relents and agrees to see his class again. he is totally resistant to the idea bc he knows he hurt them#MULTIPLE times. plus he was barely their teacher so he shouldn't be that big of a deal to them right? they knew him for like a week#when Yabuzawa is his own free agent again Nezu helps him bear the weight of his trauma and they bond over shared experiences as experiments#canon Nezu and Aizawa are cute and funny and wholesome bc of the whole cuddle-in-the-scarf thing but it's way deeper than that#Nezu is one of the only ones that Aizawa knew respected him for his abilities as a teacher vs just his useful quirk. Nezu gave him his job#and believed in him so much that he let him do whatever he wanted in pursuit of teaching students who would live longer#and less foolishly. Nezu/Aizawa are friends and value each other a great deal thanks xoxoxo

The weirdest thing about going to college for teaching in the united states is the giant CANYON of disconnect between what we're taught and what we actually do in a classroom.
like we're taught how to diversify methods of instruction in order to most equitably reach the diverse populations of our classrooms and inspire them to do their best writing/reading/speaking (im an English teaching major) but then in reality the students in your classroom are insanely below the level they need to be at in order to engage with age-appropriate lessons for them
we're taught how to take common core standards and transform them into meaningful and deep lessons but we're only given 45-90 mins of planning per day (if we're lucky) and the rest needs to be done outside of school or after hours if you can't do it quickly enough, and teachers are always expected to do research outside of the classroom, as well as collaboration, tweaking of lesson plans, etc.
we're told that students crave learning and they crave fun projects and they crave kinesthetic exercises, but then when I try those things in the classroom everyone complains and halfasses their participation, and im lucky if half of them actually pass something in, whether its an assignment, a test, a project, or an assessment.
we're told that we need to have open communication not only between teachers but between teachers and admin and parents, but then im lucky if one of the ten parents I email about their kid failing emails me back, and im luckier if admin takes a behaviorally disturbed student out of my class for insulting me or other students.
like... i guess my point is that teaching education is so idyllic and utopian, and actual classrooms are a goddamn nightmare of behavioral issues, lack of time/resources, exhausting interactions with students who don't want to be there or participate, and insane expectations from students, parents, and admin alike.
Like... no wonder the teaching field is hemorrhaging teachers right now. How can ANYONE work under the insane conditions we're forced to try and teach in. I'm so tired and I'm not even out of school yet. It's actually psychotic.
#education#teaching#english teaching#teaching issues#education issues#new hampshire education#ive had students verbally abuse me until ive had a breakdown#ive had dozens of students with a 10% or less for the semester#i had a student get arrested and he still got to graduate#somethings gotta give or nobody will want to teach anymore#this is actually insane the amount we're expected to do#im sick of reading the same 5 things in all my textbooks#like clearly this shit isn't actually preparing me for what its really like#this is for teaching like... the best of the best students#what about inner city kids??#cause thats where i live#and its a fucking nightmare#what am i supposed to do with my degree now honestly#im so tired#anyways#rant over

Hey so do you know where I could find this acting manifesto of yours?
I usually try and avoid publicly expressing my opinion on things like this but I recently saw some people commenting negatively on his acting again and I’m starting to doubt my own judgement.
I’ve truly never had a huge problem with his acting but I keep seeing people using really harsh words to describe his prior and current work. I genuinely think he’s doing a good job in THK but these comments sometimes make me think I’m missing something.
That conflicts with the fact I know at least three people he worked with on THK specifically had positive things to say about his acting too and I trust people who do this for a living to know what they’re talking about for the most part.
I guess I’m just looking for your post to have a more detailed perspective of the opposite viewpoint to “he’s a terrible actor” to help affirm some of my thinking so I’m more confident in my positive opinion of his acting.
Overall though I’m enjoying everyone in this show but for me I’m specifically enjoying the four mains the most. Kudos to them honestly.
(Disclaimer: Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion but the harshness of some of the opinions took me off guard a little.)
fuck these people. they don't know shit.
(mind you. this manifesto was written based on his performance in just star in my mind and hidden agenda. his 2024 shows weren't even out at that point. in fact, thk hadn't even been publicly announced yet. you can see from the start there is talent in this boy if you actually know what to look out for)
bonus: i rant some more in the last reblog
#''i trust people who do this for a living to know what they're talking about'' <- yeah. exactly#i'm only semi-qualified bc i don't actually do this for a living#(yet. not yet‚ hopefully)#but i do have a diploma in acting#and i had two fantastic teachers who made a point of teaching us students how to analyze acting performances#on my last class with one of these teachers he actually told me i'd make a good director based on the feedback i'd give my peers in class#i'm not saying you need to trust my acting opinions and that they are the only correct™ ones (god no)#but my opinions likely have more legitimacy than those of the majority of fans (and haters)#anon you mind collecting some of the harsh things that are being said? i wanna know if they even come with receipts#asks#anon#airenyah no. 1 dunk defender#dunk natachai#adrm#yeah istg. if i keep hearing (about) people talking shit about dunk's acting#i may write a part two of this manifesto once thk is over and i'm done with my weekly style meta project#also!! sometimes he DOES mess up!! sometimes things don't go that smoothly!!#BUT SO WHAT#it's mostly individual instances#like his monologue in the thk ep8 crying scene#that was the first time in the entire series so far where i was like ''kid this is not your finest moment you can do better than this''#(the build up was wrong‚ he stayed on the same level and acted out mostly the obvious)#(it would have been more interesting if he hadn't gone into the monologue with a whiny voice from the first second on)#(the emotional arc would have been more interesting and the drop down to the crying would have been bigger and more effective)#anyway. he's ACING this role and my style metas are basically a love letter to his acting too#because i wouldn't be able to write 10k(+) words on style every week if the things weren't there in his performance#anyway fuck these people i think most of them have decided to hate dunk from the start or are parroting their friends' words#they'll just hate whatever he does on principle bc they don't actually care#and they don't care to look at his improvement either bc they just hate him on principle#anon don't let their words drag down your enjoyment of dunk's performance!! because i'm telling you there is SO MUCH JOY to be found!!!!!!
