I've been dropping in on the Sydney Botanic Gardens' titan arum (corpse flower) live stream and it gets less hinged by the hour, especially now that Putricia (the flower is named Putricia) has begun to bloom

At time of posting (5:30pm), she smells like wet socks and dead mice:

Other highlights:

People in the greenhouse are taking selfies with the plant but also the livestream camera

There is a discord server, apparently mostly comprised of the people who've been in the chat for 3 days straight

Aformentioned people formed a community of like 50-200 chatters until Putricia started blooming and the viewers and chat exploded to like 9k people ⠀

There are what appear to be Prayers to Putricia™, consisting of: WWTF (we watch the flower), BBTF (blessed be the bloom), WDNRP (we do not rush Putricia), WDNEP (we do not eat Putricia), and now WSTF (we smell the flower)

Faithfuls frequently post these to spread the word of Putricia

They have dubbed themselves the Children of the Corm:

Yesterday someone asked if Putricia's petals had started to open/bloom yet, and without fail 50% of chat immediately made innuendo jokes about their """""petals""""" opening, but that it depended on their personal humidity, who was touching the petals, and if the time was right for petal opening ⠀

Every 3rd time someone stands dead centre in front of the camera's FOV sufficient to block the view, chat starts 1: speculating on how tall they are (one guy was erroneously thought to be 7ft tall), and 2: immediately switch priorities to telling them to duck ⠀

ok ok so camp here & there is a site that’s run by The Spiral, everything outside of that is practically normal, but the camp makes everyone believe that the events that go on here are actually not that weird. It could also be a place where the bridge between the fear entities and earth is thin, so that’s why there’s a lot of activity from several different entities.

At least once a counselor mentioned “why do we keep working here every year?” And Soren was never actually fired, which just adds fuel to the fire tbh.

Most of the counselors there are just marked by the spiral, but others are marked by different entities. Some might not be full on avatars yet, but still posses supernatural qualities (like Oliver Banks until his death). Rowan is an Eye avatar, and although it’s made a point that the eye can’t really see the future, that just makes Rowan’s situation that much more worrying. Soren, ofc, is an avatar of The End. Self explanatory. Jedidiah mighhhttt be Web aligned, or even The Lonely (now that I think about it he most definitely is the lonely in someway) but I’m not entirely sure what to do with him yet. Adam is a Flesh avatar, and maybe one of the only ones who actually knows he’s an avatar (besides maybe Soren and Lucille). Elijah seems like an End avatar, with him being overly obsessed with making sure Sydney stays asleep for the greater good of humanity. His trying to sacrifice Sydney was an attempted End ritual, and would’ve most likely failed w/o intervention bc Sydney hasn’t been marked by all the fears yet.

Sydney is this au’s Jon, he’s being led into the position of the antichrist by Lucille, who is The spiral avatar. So far Sydney has been marked by the spiral (working at chnt), the end (Soren, the gravediggress, and the mold), the hunt (… the hunt), the flesh (Adam), the corruption (the hive incident), the eye (the bonfire, Rowan), the lonely or the web depending of which Jed aligns with more, andddd I’m sure others that are slipping my mind rn.

Jed (more than likely on accident) cemented Sydney as an Avatar after he killed and reanimated him, and Sydney is able to stay fit at the camp bc he feeds off the unhinged Spiral energy it creates. I also think Sydney was marked by The End at an early age, and that’s why he was chosen to be the sacrifice by Elijah (even if he doesn’t realize it) and why he’s very into death and decay.

The Magnus Institute DOES exist in this au, and they (Jon n the gang) find out about this camp due to a tired looking young man who convinced his slightly unhinged boyfriend to make a statement with him about the strange place they work at over the summer (ps Juniper is Very spiral aligned, more so than the rest of them, thinks that the camp is actually pretty normal and doesn’t know what Rowan is going on about, and seems to live in a place that Jon later finds out doesn’t exist at all)

Kylar might be an omega but he has the violent possessiveness of an alpha. He’s also mad delusional and thinks he’s secretly an alpha despite being quite breedable and tiny. Obviously he isn’t and instantly gets submissive the second an alpha is actually around.

He’s unintentionally slutty, he has no ability to control his impulses- which leads to being starry eyed and needy around every single alpha before he’s mated. He’s just a little desperate to have a mate honestly.

Cute, he’s cute.

Even more of a hopeless romantic than usual, someone needs to claim and knot him before he whimpers at the wrong person. He’s incredibly shy but his urge for romance weighs out enough that he’ll stalk alphas and stare up at them w his heavy breathing the second they’re close.

Obsessed w having pups. Does not shut up abt it, thinks he’d have the cutest babies despite hating how he looks.

People argue abt what he is. They think he’s too pretty and kind to be a beta or alpha but too headstrong and self assured to be an omega. He’s also strong enough people doubt it. They’d probably be shocked to find out he’s just a beta

Doesn’t understand alpha or omega instincts and has a giggle abt how desperate and crazy they seem,,,But still wants a mate and hopes being a beta won’t ruin his chances

Grew up with an omega best friend so he’s kind of picked up on cozy omega activities like nesting and scenting. He’d definitely do them with a partner whenever he got one.

Prefers omegas, despite his masochistic tendencies he doesn’t like how alphas act, it annoys him.

Whitney (alpha)

Annoying about it, everyone knows he’s an alpha because he’s the most stereotypical asshole alpha possible.

Claims he doesn’t want a mate and doesn’t care about having one yet absolutely does.

Has tried forcefully mating several ppl just for it to reject and him to have a bitch fit over it

Would be weirdly possessive once mated, definitely also a biter. He wouldn’t let his mate go out without being bitten and scratched to hell.

Could either go omega or beta, he’d still be smaller and submissive regardless but I think he’d suit being a beta more. His submissiveness is more earned than being inherent.

He isn’t like… pathetically needy. He’s dependent and loves to cuddle but it isn’t excessive.

No matter what he is he’s getting bullied for being an omega so he might as well just be one.

Neutral on pups, he feels like he’s too young to worry about that stuff.

Undoubtedly an alpha, just look at him. He’s aggressive, primal, big. The mate literally any omega would want. (ESP Kylar, Kylar would be on his knees begging for a chance if they met)

This post from @cruciomione got me thinking thoughts.

It’s fascinating that a ship with canon evidence of sexual intimacy hasn’t made as much hoopla as us with every lingering gaze, check in, awkward quip/conversation, family turmoil, sudden loss of knowing about UPS and acceptance (Carmen, Natalie, and Ritchie encouraged Sydney to say, “Let It Rip”! LET IT RIP! THE BLEEP!). And, when I do think about Carmy/Claire: The sex scene, though showing how sensual Carmy is (to me), it was the hues and lighting that were interesting. All I can recall is Blue. There’s a well written post by @thoughtfulchaos773 that examined color choices. What I like to mention is that the hues or filter or insert the technical term moving forward are so tightly connected at the beginning of Omelette.

Deep Blues of Intimacy (opening scene) to the softer tints of blues and greens of Sydney’s chef (stained) white jacket in the following scene are important. I capitalize the DBP because, for me, this scene was obviously hitting on something... It was stark and intense and hollow. It feels purposeful – hard hitting in an expectant way. The transition to a lighter blue/green filter to Sydney preparing with her stained chef white jacket feels significant. It’s about Sydney trying and trusting.  

And then THE alley scene with the same pale, cooler color tones. Carmy is trying to manage through the "warmth" (warmer tones) of his past that is actual chaos. And then there’s Sydney. Cooler, calmer, more his speed in the sense of recognition of same knowing same. There something so...wholly complicated and knowing about Season Two.

Announcement from Commander Percival Moses, Base Commander for the Sydney Shatterdome.

In light of recent events... I felt it was time to once more to highlight how I appreciate each and every one of you.

This was never to be an easy task we were given and as the years have ticked away it was quite clear the cost we would have to pay. It is not an easy or a light cost fate asks of us. But I am proud of how each of you have... or had... risen up to accept that price.

It's been a hard week for us all. And it's been a grave reminder of that cost.

Certainly it's taken me a week to will myself to write this, but this is something I felt I must do.

Do not think for even a second that anyone on this base is not important, not vital to what we do.

Do not think that you must be alone in what you do or how you feel.

I hope the over the five years that I have been commander, that I have encouraged our Shatterdome to grow to be community and grow to be a family.

Feel what you feel, do not hide nor bury it.

Process it, reflect and mourn. But do not get lost.

Our time hasn't been called yet and we still have much to do. And as we rise to answer that call, know that I am proud to be your commander.
