October 2022: Friday Turned Out To Be Pretty Good
Today’s backyard garden harvest:
The tiny flowers of our fragrant tea olive have the entire backyard scented up:
The last of the sweet corn for this year is just starting to tassel:
I think these might be Tigerella tomato. I didn’t think any of the seedlings had made it:
We’ve pulled out all the squash plants in the backyard garden except for this lemon squash. It was attacked by squash vine borers then a downy woodpecker peck all the borers out. I thought it would die months ago but it is still producing fruit. We’ll definitely let one fruit go to seed on this trooper for seed collecting:
I’m happy with the repair job that I did on this curbside find planter but I’m even happier that the curly leaf parsley that I planted in it is doing well:
My queen: How much longer on the burgers?
Me: About 3 minutes
My queen: Are mine well done?
Me: Yes
My queen: I ask because my last steak was a little pink inside.
Me <grinning>: You’re a little pink inside & you don’t hear me complaining.
My queen <grinning>: You need to go on.
Anyway, hamburgers for dinner:

I think when they get married, it's going to be just like this. Private. They will get their piece of paper, say the official vows -- maybe they will even dress up for it. There won't be many people there, if any. It's a formality, the official part. It's a nice formality, there may be a happy tear or two, a gentle kiss; it's a special day, after all.
But the real wedding, that is just them. At home. Nobody else present. They know their own vows, they have all the words in their heads, in their hearts. They go home, change back into their casual clothes and go for a walk. Enjoying the peace and quiet, the comfort of each other's company. And in a patch of sunlight, they'll stop, take each other's hands, look at each other the way they have from the very beginning, and speak their love to each other. For their ears only.
Ever since they met, they have been a unit of two. Even before they were a couple, they'd stand close together to talk, using their bodies to block out the outside world, creating a private universe contained only in the space between them. What they have to say to each other isn't meant for anyone else.
They don't need to shout their love out into the world, they don't need to promise undying loyalty and devotion where other people can hear. What they share is so intensely private, and it always has been.
It's the two of them, hands joined, looking into each other's eyes, and that is all there is. That is all they need. That is all they want. Each other. Nothing else.

November 2022: Rainy Monday
Sunday’s project was to yank out this knockout rose. This rose was at least 10 years old... sometimes gardening involves some hard & cruel decisions:
We replaced it with this chaste tree that came up from seed:
Today’s backyard garden. I was surprised to see a ripe tomato:
I mentioned in a previous post about pulling some green seedlings from Plot 420 & bringing them home. These are them. The one in the middle had been seriously gnawed in by the local rabbits or rodents that run amok in the fields around Plot 420:
Random brassica growing in the bird bath we turned into our sedum planter:
With the rain today, the only bees out were honeybees. The native Bumbles, Carpenters & all the assorted tiny bees stick close to home when it rains even when it is just the on & off drizzle that we got today:
One of two curly leaf parsley plants that we grew from seed. This one is the most gorgeous. Look how tight those leaves are curled. You can’t buy that flavor in a store:

Oh the entire scene by lake shimmerstone was so so beautiful. the presence of a miracle kristen cannot see. the silhouettes of these two saved souls reflected in twilight waters. lucy and yolanda holding hands as they walk out of the dark as cassandra said she’d be there to do. such an incredible moment
