Chapter 2
It was never her intention to stay in Monaco for as long as she did. The decision was made on a whim, a spontaneous deviation from their original plan. She and her best friend, Diana, had pooled all their savings to backpack through Europe, a final adventure before heading off to university the following year. They had dreams of exploring ancient cities, savoring exotic cuisines, and collecting stories to last a lifetime.
Except, they never made it out of Monaco. Halfway through their adventure, they ran out of money. The glitz and glamour of the principality had drained their funds faster than they anticipated. In a desperate bid to keep their dream alive, they decided to find work in Monaco until they had enough money to continue their journey or return home.
But they stayed. For her best friend, the decision was driven by an insatiable hunger for adventure and the thrill of the unknown. Monaco, with its opulent casinos, stunning coastline, and vibrant nightlife, was an irresistible playground. Every day brought new experiences, new faces, and the promise of excitement just around the corner.
For her, staying was about something deeper, something more poignant. She was trying to find a place to call home after the devastating loss of her parents. The memories of her past were wrapped in sorrow, her hometown a landscape of grief she wasn’t ready to face. If she had to return, it would be to a cold, empty apartment filled with silent reminders of a life she once cherished. The photographs on the walls, the worn furniture, the lingering scent of her parents’ presence—all of it was too much to bear.
Selling the apartment didn’t feel right either. It was her last tangible connection to her family, a physical space where she could still feel their presence. Despite her financial struggles, she couldn’t bring herself to part with it. It was her sanctuary, her link to a past that, while painful, was also filled with love and warmth. The idea of someone else living there, of it becoming just another property on the market, was unthinkable.
So she chose to stay in Monaco, finding solace in its cobblestone streets and the endless blue of the Mediterranean. She worked various jobs, from waiting tables to cleaning hotel rooms, anything that would allow her to survive and maybe, just maybe, thrive. Monaco became a place of healing, a backdrop to her search for a new beginning. It offered a sense of anonymity and escape, a way to redefine herself away from the shadows of her past.
Every day was a balancing act between the need to move forward and the pull of her memories. She built a new life in the bustling, vibrant city, finding moments of joy amidst the challenges. Monaco's beauty and chaos gave her the distraction she needed, and the transient nature of the city’s inhabitants meant she could reinvent herself as often as she needed to.
As they gained experience and confidence, their opportunities expanded. Waitressing in the casino was the next step—a more upscale, lucrative option that introduced them to a different side of Monaco's glittering facade. The casino, with its opulent decor and high-stakes atmosphere, was a realm of its own. She found herself fascinated by the people who frequented it: the wealthy, the desperate, the lucky, and the reckless. Each night brought new stories, new interactions, and a deeper understanding of the world she had plunged into.
Now, she manages the blackjack tables at one of the more popular casinos in the city. It's a position of responsibility and respect, one that she has earned through hard work and dedication. Her calm demeanour and sharp mind make her a natural at handling the complexities of the job. She ensured the games ran smoothly, the customers were satisfied, and the house always had the upper hand. It was a far cry from the uncertain young woman who arrived in Monaco, and she took pride in the journey she had made.
Diana's lust for adventure meant she took a different path. Drawn by the allure of the open sea and the promise of new experiences, she ended up working as a stewardess on one of the locals' yachts. It was a job that took her beyond Monaco's borders, allowing her to travel to Italy, France, and Spain. Each trip was a new chapter, filled with sun-soaked days, glamorous parties, and the thrill of the unknown. She revelled in the freedom and excitement, her heart set on exploring as much of the world as she could.
Their paths diverged, but their bond remained strong. They shared stories of their adventures and challenges, finding comfort in each other’s experiences. She would listen to tales of Mediterranean coastlines and opulent yachts, while Diana would hear about the intrigues and dramas unfolding at the blackjack tables. They were both carving out their own versions of success, driven by different motivations but united by their shared past and the dreams that brought them to Monaco.
In the midst of their bustling lives, she couldn’t shake the feeling that Monaco had become more than just a stop on their journey. It had become a place where she could redefine herself, a place where she could heal.
For her, the days following the incident were a nightmare. She tried to stay indoors as much as she could, avoiding the outside world and the risk of bumping into the murderer. The image of Charles, his hands covered in blood and his eyes wild with panic, was seared into her mind. She didn’t know if he would harm her too and if she was in danger simply because she had witnessed his crime.
She was violently ill, throwing up every day as the memory crossed her mind. The nausea wasn’t just physical; it was a visceral reaction to the terror and helplessness she felt that night. Her once safe and vibrant life in Monaco now felt like a trap, with shadows lurking around every corner. The fear was suffocating, pressing down on her with every heartbeat.
When she finally returned to work, she took a different route, meticulously planning her path to avoid that alley. The thought of walking past the place where she saw the life drain from a man's eyes was unbearable. She couldn’t face it, couldn’t let the reminder of that night haunt her more than it already did. The new route was longer, more cumbersome, but it provided a small measure of psychological relief.
Her colleagues at the casino noticed the change in her demeanour. She was quieter, more withdrawn, her usual spark dimmed by the weight of her secret. Managing the blackjack tables required her to maintain a calm and composed exterior, but inside, she was constantly on edge. Every new customer, every unexpected movement, set her nerves alight with anxiety.
Despite her efforts to avoid the memory, it lingered. The dark alley, the rain-soaked streets, the brutal fight—they were always there, lurking just beneath the surface of her consciousness. She found herself jumpy, easily startled, her senses heightened by a perpetual state of fear. The once vibrant city had become a maze of potential threats, each day a challenge to her sanity.
Diana, busy with her own adventures on the yachts, noticed something was wrong but couldn’t quite understand the depth of her trauma. She tried to be supportive, offering distractions and comforting words, but the horror of that night was something words couldn’t soothe. She couldn’t share the full truth, couldn’t burden her friend with the gruesome reality of what she had witnessed.
She was trapped in a silent nightmare, each day a struggle to maintain a semblance of normalcy while the weight of her secret threatened to crush her. And in the midst of this, Charles was searching for her, driven by his own fears and need for redemption. Their paths, once accidentally crossed, were now inexorably linked, setting the stage for a confrontation that would force them both to face the darkness within and around them.
She contemplated reporting the incident, but fear held her back. She knew he had seen her face, and had gotten a good enough look to identify her. The uncertainty of who he was or what he was capable of paralyzed her. The thought of police protection felt like a distant hope. She was a foreigner, a transient figure in Monaco, and doubted the Monegasque police would prioritise her safety over the influence and power someone like him might wield.
The universe seemed to be playing a sick game of cat and mouse with her and Charles, with each of them constantly missing the other by just a few minutes or a turn of a corner. Their paths continued to intertwine in frustratingly close calls—Charles arriving at a café just as she left, her taking a different route home just minutes before he passed by. The tension built with each near encounter, the stakes rising as both their lives remained suspended in this cruel game.
She tried to maintain a semblance of normalcy, but every creak of her apartment, every unexpected knock, sent her heart racing. She kept the lights off, the curtains drawn, as if hiding from the world would somehow keep her safe. She longed for her friend’s carefree spirit, for the days when her biggest worry was earning enough to continue their adventure. Now, every moment was tinged with the fear of being found.
As the days passed, she realised she couldn’t keep living in fear. The incident had fractured her sense of security, but she was determined not to let it break her completely. She started to devise a plan, thinking of ways to leave Monaco, to start over once again. But the thought of running, of abandoning the life she had built, filled her with a deep sense of loss.
Unbeknownst to her, Charles was closing in. His determination to find her, to make things right, was relentless. He scoured the city, desperate for any clue that would lead him to her. The closer he got, the more his anxiety grew, knowing that confronting her would mean facing his own demons and the possible unravelling of his family’s carefully constructed empire.
In the heart of Monaco, their fates were on a collision course, bound by a night of violence and a web of secrets. The question remained: when they finally met, would it bring redemption or ruin for both of them?

You'll have an open and honest conversation so that you can both understand where the other is coming from. He'll always be respectful of your feelings, and try to find a compromise or resolution that makes both of you feel secure.
When he's away for games and you can't join him, he'll make sure to stay in touch, to let you know how he's doing and what's going on. When it comes to affection, he'll always make sure to show his love in both words and actions. He'll be affectionate with hugs, kisses, cuddles, and tender touches. He'll be open and loving, letting you know how much he cares about you, and how much you mean to him. In return, he'll appreciate your affection, and let you know how much he enjoys it.
He's also a very loyal and faithful partner. He would never do anything to hurt you or betray your trust. He's also a good listener, so you can always count on him to be there for you when you need someone to talk to.
You can never have a boring moment with him. He has a great sense of humor and will always make you laugh. He loves to hear about your day and how you're feeling. He can be very protective and possessive, and he would do anything to make sure you're safe and happy.
He's good at handling rude fans. He just tries to ignore them or politely tell them to stop. But if they continue to be rude or mean, he'll get mad and tell them off. He's done it before, and he'll do it again. He won't let anyone disrespect his girl.
He always takes care of you when you're sick or feeling down, and on bad days he's right there to comfort you and tell you that it'll be okay. He's the kind of guy who will bring you flowers and chocolates when you're feeling down, or take you out for dinner and make sure that you have an amazing night.
One thing he definitely can't forget is that he's an amazing cook just for you. He knows all your favorite meals, and he always makes sure to make them just the way you like them or orders for you when out together.
He's really devoted to your relationship. He's always putting in effort, and he never takes you for granted. And he always tries to make you feel special, whether that's by getting you flowers or taking you on a romantic date.
He's also very patient. He never rushs you or pressure you to do anything that you're not comfortable with. He always wants you to feel comfortable and at ease around him. And he also loves to take care of you and makes sure you feel loved and protected.
He's not a perfect guy, though. He's a bit of a hopeless romantic and sometimes get carried away with his feelings which can cause him to make mistakes. But he always learns from his flaws and try to correct them for the future.
He loves going out with you. He loves showing you off, and he loves how you light up when people see how beautiful you are. He always enjoys taking you on dates and making sure that you're having a great time. There's nothing better than making memories together and seeing the joy on your face when you're out together enjoying yourselves.
He would also protect you from any unwanted attention. If someone tried to bother you or make you feel uncomfortable, he would quickly step in and make sure that they stop. You don't have to worry about anything when he's around, because he's got your back always.
If you were more shy, he'd still enjoy going out with you. Even tho you might be shy and not enjoy being the center of attention, he would still make sure that you're enjoying yourself. He would be more gentle with you and try to make you as comfortable as possible. And he would make sure to hold your hand gently, so you wouldn't feel too shy or uncomfortable.
He would also love to just spend time at home with you too, whether it's watching movies or just spending time together talking or hanging out. And he would also love to just go for walks together and just enjoy your time together in a more quiet and comfortable way.
He would also show that he's a gentleman and always open doors for you, pull the chair out when you go out to eat, and offer to carry any bags you may have. He also shows affection through physical contact, so he'll hold you close and give you hugs and kisses whenever you feel comfortable with it.
When it comes to intimacy, he prefers keeping things more vanilla in the beginning. He's a big fan of missionary position and gentle touches. He's also a big fan of cuddling, kisses and hugs.
Some of his favorites include role-playing, bondage, and exploring new things with you. He's also very open-minded and loves trying new things, so he's always open to exploring new kinks with you. He especially loves it when you explore his body and touch him in places that feel good for both of you.
He also loves to take control and take the lead in the bedroom. He loves making you his and showing you who's in charge. He loves to give you orders, tell you what to do, and take control of your body.
Edging. Hearing you beg and seeing you desperate for him as he keeps you just on the brink of ecstasy affects him more than words can describe.
Light Bondage. He enjoys tying you up and caressing your body, as well as being the one who is being tied up sometimes.
Toys. He finds it exciting to use toys in the bedroom like dildos, vibrators, and other tools that can enhance your experience.

Azel Radwan: Chapter 4
Chapter 3 Letter
Thank you @shatcey for providing the video for this chapter!
♡———♡
The first impression I had of him, a merciful and kind-looking Living God – it all vanishes like dust scattered by the wind.
As I glare at the invoice thrust at me with scammer-like tactics, Azel, having revealed his true nature, grabs my chin with his large hand and squeezes my cheek.
Azel: Shall I show you what happens if you defy me?
(I'm angry at myself for being deceived by this person... no, this God, even for a moment.)
Emma: ...Please do.
Putting on a brave face as a last resort, Azel's lips curl up in amusement.
Azel: I am the supreme authority in this country.
Emma: More so than the king?
Azel: He's just a puppet. He can't defy me or the "High Priest."
Emma: ...High Priest?
Azel: That doesn't matter.
(If there's someone called the "High Priest" besides the Living God and His Majesty the King...)
(The power structure of Tanzanite may be more complicated than I thought.)
Azel: Anyway, in this country, the Living God is an absolute deity that even the royal family worships.
Azel: What do you think would happen if I simply said, "I won't let Akatsuki do business here anymore"?
Emma: ...Th-That's cowardly!
Azel: Cowardly is fine. The same goes for the two princes of Rhodolite.
Azel: They came here to investigate the internal affairs of Tanzanite, but I can kick them out anytime.
Azel: It all depends on your attitude.
(Does this mean I have to swallow this unreasonable situation if I don't want to cause trouble for everyone?)
I'm sure that the Owner, Clavis, and Luke would all come to my rescue if I asked for help.
But if I defy a God, I won't be able to avoid expulsion from Tanzanite.
The evil God's unjust invoice was deviously clever.
(However, there's something I don't understand.)
Emma: ...The Living God intended to burden me with debt from the beginning.
Emma: But what's the purpose of making me, someone you just met, incur debt with a scammer's trick?
Azel: ............
Emma: If it's about money, you've chosen the wrong person to scam, haven't you?
Emma: I don't have anything of value, and I'm not the daughter of a rich family.
Emma: There must be a purpose other than money for that invoice.
Azel: My, my... you're quite sharp, aren't you?
Azel: However, the purpose should be obvious, shouldn't it?
Prince Azel forcibly turns my face towards the counter.
It was as if a mountain of ingredients was eagerly awaiting to be cooked.
Azel: I want meat dishes.
Emma: ...Huh?
Azel: And it's not just any meat dish. I want to eat Rhodolite's local cuisine.
Emma: ...Can't you just hire a personal chef?
Azel: I just did, didn't I?
Emma: I meant a professional...
Azel: It's a shame to tie a skilled person to such a remote place.
Emma: Am I not pitiful!?
Azel: I'm just getting paid for my divine divination. What's so pitiful about that?
Emma: ............
(So, you mean you made me go into debt for the purpose of making me cook?)
(There's no way I'm going to accept that.)
As I glared at him, he squeezed my cheeks playfully.
Azel: You look unconvinced, but I hate cooking.
Azel: I have to do it because I live alone, but I don't do it for pleasure.
Emma: ...Don't you have any servants?
Azel: It would be bothersome if I did.
(It's unexpected that the Living God does everything himself...)
Azel: So, I'm looking forward to it. Please make enough for tonight as well.
Emma: Am I not bothersome?
Azel: Of course, you are. But I can still bear it.
Azel: My definition of "bothersome" is... well, you'll understand eventually.
Finally, Prince Azel's hand left my cheek.
But the only exit was completely blocked, and there was no escape route.
Emma: Every day until I repay the debt?
Azel: Of course. Every day, including cooking and other miscellaneous chores.
Azel: You've become a slave of God – no, an emissary of God to repay your debt, haven't you?
Emma: ...I heard you, you know?
Azel: Anyway, if you want to repay even a little of your debt, get to work.
Azel: Also, I'd like dessert today.
His face alone wore a God-like, benevolent smile, but now that I know it's an illusion, I won't be fooled.
(I have a lot to say and I'm not convinced at all, but...)
(I can't defy the supreme ruler of Tanzanite.)
Emma: Fine.
(Resistance is futile. Arguing is pointless. In that case–)
I roll up my sleeves and reach for the ingredients.
Azel: It's good that you're understanding.
Emma: However...!
Picking up a fruit I've never seen before, I point my index finger at Prince Azel with my other hand.
Emma: Even if I'm in debt, I will say no to things I don't like.
Emma: Don't think I'll just obey everything you say.
When I declare this forcefully, Prince Azel's eyes widen for a moment, and then he bursts out laughing.
Azel: Even for a foreign girl, you have quite the nerve to talk back to a real, unknown God like that.
Azel: Should I say you're a true "Belle," or just a fearless idiot...
Azel: Let's see what you've got.
-
The desert night was freezing cold, as if the scorching heat of the day had been a lie.
Clavis: Emma... are you alright?
Emma: I'm fine, but... huh, there are two of you, Prince Clavis.
Emma: Could it be... you're twins...? That's news to me, wow!
Luke: You're not fine, you're drunk.
Emma: Oh.
Luke takes the container of alcohol from my hand.
Instead, I'm given a container of water.
Emma: I can still drink, you know?
Luke: No, you can't. Make do with this.
(Am I really that drunk?)
Clavis's guest room, which serves as the banquet hall at night, was warm and cozy, and the feeling of floating was just like a dream.
(Dream...)
(I wish everything that happened during the day was a dream.)
The face of that evil God comes to mind, and I bring the container to my lips again.
Whether it's alcohol or water or anything else, right now I just want to wash away the feeling of the world's absurdity swirling in my chest.
Clavis: Hmm, you might not be compatible with Tanzanite's local alcohol.
Luke: It's Clavis's fault.
Clavis: It was Luke who suggested bringing alcohol as a souvenir.
Luke: I thought it was better than some weird drink I didn't understand.
Clavis: What are you saying? Calling the desert country's specialty, "God's One Cup that Sends You to a Dream World in a Single Sip," a weird drink.
Luke: ...Don't try to bring such a dangerous thing as a souvenir for Emma.
Luke: In the first place, why is such a thing being sold in the market? Regulate it!
Luke has been drinking about as much as I have since a while ago, but his complexion hasn't changed at all.
Clavis is only drinking fruit juice, so putting that aside, the Owner, who is silently enjoying his drink, doesn't seem drunk either.
Clavis: By the way, what is that "thing" that Akatsuki has been looking at so intently since a while ago?
Akatsuki: A map.
Luke: A treasure map?
Akatsuki: There's a possibility that valuable documents from an ancient civilization are stored there.
Clavis: Haha, I can't believe it's really a treasure map.
Clavis: Where on earth did you find it?
Emma: ...The Living God gave it to me.
*flashback*
Azel: I never expected you to be such a good cook. I'm satisfied, thank you.
Azel: Oh, and here you go. Make sure to deliver this to Akatsuki; he'll be desperate to have it.
Azel: However, don't say anything unnecessary. What happened today is a secret between you and me.
Azel: Well, with your intelligence, it goes without saying that you'll keep quiet.
*back to present
(I mustn't remember.)
I gulp down the remaining water in an attempt to banish that triumphant smile from my mind.
Thanks to that, I feel a little less drunk.
Emma: Prince Clavis.
Clavis: What's with that serious look? I won't give you any more alcohol.
Emma: That's not it. What kind of person is the Living God that you know?
Emma: You were laughing yesterday when I said he was merciful and kind.
(Maybe he knows his true nature.)
Clavis: Haha... you must have had some encounter with the Living God, haven't you?
Emma: ...No, I haven't.
When I avert my eyes and say this, Clavis starts grinning mischievously.
Clavis: There's no need to hide it. I'm sure he wasn't the God you imagined.
Clavis: After all, that man is greedy.
Emma: ...Greedy?
Clavis: Maybe it's easier to understand if I say he's obsessed with money.
Clavis: He's a God and a prince, but for some reason, he desperately wants money.
What flashes through my mind is that exorbitant invoice, the root of all evil.
Luke: He doesn't seem like that.
Clavis: It seems he chooses who he begs from.
Clavis: He must have his eyes on me and... let's see, Silvio.
Clavis: As the richest man on the continent, he could probably squeeze even more money out of him than me, right?
Emma: ...That's awful.
Clavis: But you get what you pay for.
Clavis: As befits a Living God, he's a man with special abilities that ordinary people can't understand.
Clavis: Those who donate to him will never regret it. You could say his begging is a fair trade.
(From the way he's talking, Clavis knows that he's "greedy," but he doesn't know that he's a scammer.)
(...Unlike me, he doesn't seem to have a bad impression of him.)
My faint hope that Clavis might understand me is shattered.
Akatsuki: Emma.
The Owner, who had been studying the map with a serious expression while holding his drink, finally looks up and takes off his glasses.
Akatsuki: I'll be traveling for a while.
Emma: Are you going to the place on the map?
Akatsuki: Yes, it's in a remote area.
Akatsuki: I need to cross the desert, climb a cliff, enter the weathered ruins, and head to the hidden area in its depths.
Luke: ...Are you some kind of adventurer?
Akatsuki: I want to ask you to handle the rest of the requests.
Emma: I just need to deliver the books, right? Leave it to me.
(The fact that the Owner is so restless means that the documents at the place on the map must be quite valuable.)
Clavis: Luke and I will keep an eye on Emma. You can go on your adventure without worry.
Akatsuki: I'm grateful. What about souvenirs?
Clavis: Then, the legendary seasoning hidden in that remote land.
Akatsuki: Understood.
(Eh, does that really exist?)
Clavis: Emma, if anything happens, let us know.
Luke: I'll punch anyone, no matter who they are.
Emma: I'd prefer if you didn't resort to violence, but thank you.
(..........)
(If I were with the Owner, I might not have had time to go to the Living God's place.)
(If he deliberately separated me and the Owner with that in mind–)
I somehow suppress the urge to groan by drinking the water I've added from the jug.
-
(What... is that?)
The next day, after seeing off the Owner who left on his adventure early in the morning and finishing my own work, I returned to the castle. Just then, I happened to spot Prince Azel walking, surrounded by women.
(This is the first time I've seen the Living God inside the castle.)
(Oh, His Majesty the King is there too.)
The women were all uniformly dressed in the beautiful, revealing sheer robes unique to Tanzanite, and even though it should still be daytime, an alluring nighttime atmosphere seemed to permeate that space.
(I don't know where to look.)
Azel: –Enis. Please resubmit the national defense budget. Allocate a little more to the expeditionary fund.
Azel: There were still reserve funds remaining, right? You can use those without hesitation.
Azel: Maintain the investment in public works. Let's also allocate part of the budget for cultural preservation to the expeditionary fund.
Azel: I want to allocate all the surplus to the expeditionary fund, so please submit the revised proposal as soon as possible. I'm looking forward to it in three days.
Enis: As the Living God commands.
(The king is bowing his head. But that conversation just now was about politics, wasn't it?)
(It was as if the Living God had all the decision-making power...)
Prince Azel thrusts the documents he was holding into Enis's hands.
He wore a merciful and gentle smile, with no trace of the cunning I saw yesterday.
Azel: Well then, I'll be on my way—...
Enis: Please wait. While you're here, why don't you visit the harem today?
(...Harem?)
Azel: Are you bringing that up again? You're persistent, even though you know it puts me in a bad mood.
Enis: It's an order from the High Priest. Please forgive me.
Azel: Yes, yes, it's just my grandfather's rambling. I've said it many times, but I'm not interested in women.
Prince Azel doesn't even glance at the women surrounding him.
His behavior shows a firm will.
Azel: Don't forget that even a gentle God might bestow divine punishment if you're too persistent.
Enis: Of course, I'm aware of that. However, if the precious bloodline of the Living God is severed, Tanzanite has no future.
Enis: Even if he has to gather all the women in the country, the High Priest will not give up.
Azel: The fact that he's likely to actually do that is what I call insane, or rather, he's been awfully persistent lately.
Azel: ...He's probably concerned about the "false diviner" incident.
Azel: It's none of my business. Even if I were to lay my hands on a woman, it wouldn't solve anything—...
(Oh...)
I accidentally make eye contact with Prince Azel.
I give a slight bow and immediately turn on my heel.
(I feel guilty, like I've heard something I shouldn't have...)
(I feel like I've heard a warning bell telling me not to get involved any further.)
I start walking quickly, hurriedly escaping from the place with its strange atmosphere.
But then, someone grabs my shoulder from behind and forcibly stops me.
Azel: Emma, where are you going?
Cold sweat trickles down, and my movements become stiff.
When I lift my strained face, Prince Azel changes his benevolent smile into a malicious one at an angle only I can see.
(...This is bad.)
Enis: Living god...
Azel: Enis, tell the High Priest...
In front of the many women and Enis, the Living God pulls me into his arms.
Azel: ...that the God has taken a liking to the foreign girl.

Tastes of the Empire: The Feast of Prosperity, a True Culinary Adventure!
Food by Jaa Val-Izen Cyone
Tumblr media
Honey-glazed K'lor'slug beckons Feast-goers with the succulent sweet-savory flesh of its legs and tail.
Oh, to have the fortune to patronize Nar Shaddaa these past glorious weeks! What an inspired festival has come to the planet - and as a melting pool of exotic beings, cultures, and flavors, there is no better place for it!
I speak, of course, of the Feast of Prosperity, the culinary creation of Hutt partners Gaboorga and Duuba. Equally part charity, part five-star Mch'lin Platter pop-up restaurant, part galactic safari, and part dinner theatre, the Feast beckons everyone from every background to attend. And how it delivers!
A true shame that Imperial Life's occasional food critic Alaric Faro could not be bothered to provide a full review of the cuisine on offer this time last year ... despite being a food critic. I could not let readers down, and I am pleased to report that a round-trip cruise to Nar Shaddaa this season would not be poorly timed!
Tumblr media
The exclusive skyrise dining experience is a-whirl with groan-worthy scents and tastes!
The height of the feast's culinary creations populate a limited menu of five plates curated by none other than Head Chef Popotis himself! With such plates as Roast Bog Snarler featuring succulently crisped skin and sweet tubers; luminescent Swamp Lentil Soup steeped with earthy glowshooms, cream, and savory oils; or the "Full Huttese" Breakfast Platter of delectable grophet bacon, soft-boiled nuna eggs, spiced n' diced desert tubers, and "2D" flatcakes with stewed vormfruit and snow-sugar, there is something to fit every palate! If you come with a Hutt-sized appetite, you can opt for the course menu instead of a la carte, and have the privilege of sampling each and every dish.
For the select and fortunate few - those privileged enough to contribute to the the Hutts' fundraising efforts - an even more exclusive dining experience is on offer. Head Chef Popotis has acquired the rarest of ingredients for his most delectable appetizers in the donors' lounge: savory rancor liver spread, electric crysfang chromatophore plates, and tender orlax hearts on the side of rare-strain kibla greens dressed with sunseed drizzle. These samplers wouldn't be complete, of course, without miniature crisp-pastries filled with wraid ampulla jelly, fried ice cat whiskers decking salted caramel orbs, Dantooine cheeses garnished with parasitic clingmoss and glowfruits, or thermal-boundary softnut soups topped with the captivating subtelty of nova-yellow poola blossom threads.
If the accessibility of Popotis' exclusive menus is a sticking point, then you get to experience the Adventure Kitchen at Bog's Bounty Banquet Hall where apprentice chefs re-enact the master chef's favorites - with their own regional flair, of course! And possibly also constrained by ingredients not yet fetched by the adventurers-for-hire. But fear not, each plate is crafted under the expert tutelage of Popotis' own J4-SN chef droid, affectionately nicknamed, "Jason."
Tumblr media
Chef droid "Jason" lurks over the work of apprentice chefs. Beware its spinning blades!
Like the exclusive menu, the Adventure Menu is also limited, and just to two meals at any given time. Wander in and out of the Feast grounds over the course of a week to sample Jellied Glowshroom Stew, Spicy Nexu Supreme, Exotic Medley Delight, Braised Scyk Belly, or the Ultimate Galactic Sampler. The randomness of the ingredients ensures that each taste experience will be perfectly unique! Your Spicy Nexu Supreme might one day consist of painfully tender grilled nexu tongue over enticingly charred, sweet vormfruit with rich primeval marrow butter and a thick, chunky nexu gravy ... while another day will see your grilled nexu paired with melt-in-your-mouth bekbek root mash - or crisped fries! - and salted ice sauce with cooling crystal bits to help offset that spicy kick. Your Glowshroom Stew might be a shroom-lover's delight, packed with nothing but earthy blue and green shroomflesh in a thick, creamy just-iced gel ... or it could be an unexpected carnivore's dream with delectably fatty scyk belly and surprise choice of fruit to brighten the dish! Likewise, your Galactic Sampler could take you on a vegetarian tour of the lushest garden planets, or surprise you with the sliminess of vel slug, the crispy tenderness of scyk belly, and the dense luxury of nexu - all on the same plate! Your sauces might be savory or tangy, thick or thin, creamy or icy! Your spices could be any combination of savory Gloambean sauce, brain-bending Black Hole pepper, tingly Comet Dust, or even Jason's secret seasoning. The surprise is sure to compel you back for another taste!
Enjoy all that as the Hutts stage a cooking duel as the event's finale, with a taste-off between the sophistication of Chef Popotis and the rival homemade, nostalgic goodness of Chef Nuura Yendo. Who might the winner be? You'll just have to visit to find out!
It takes the heart of an adventurer to brave the Feast of Prosperity!
Jaa Val-Izen Cyone represents a fresh and inspired look at the finest of Imperial cuisine - and of cuisines across the Galaxy! Multi-talented and multi-opinionated, his is the reliable, down-to-earth word any reader of Imperial Life can trust. Unafraid to sample even the most outlandish dishes, Jaa travels far and wide to taste flavors from the most homely to the most sophisticated. If it's a fair shake you need, look no further than Jaa Cyone - soon to be the most trusted culinary word on the street.

*Ahem* One Is Not Late, Is One?
Tumblr media
*ahem* One is not late, is one? One was slightly carried away while partaking in the festivities, and almost lost track of the time...
The last time we had a meal together was out the front of one's abode. One believes that this is the first time we've had such a gathering in the city since one has taken mortal form.
Since Streetward Rambler is acting as our most generous host today, one feels that it would only be proper to contribute a dish or two as well... behold, the Supreme Cuisine Machine!

Miku vs. the Italians.
Below is a story i wrote over the course of a 2 hours for my friend groups art club, the theme was "hatsune miku" and one friend jokingly suggested i write a story about miku vs the italians. I was told i should post it here.
Hatsune Miku, twin-tailed teal titan of the music industry, virtual diva extraordinaire with a voice to command the hearts of her people, found herself in an inner strife, a conflicting turmoil that caused her chest to pound and her stomach to tumble.
This story starts with humble origins, our heroine would find herself in the midst of a charming Italian countryside as part of a much needed and friend mandated vacation after she let slip the strenuous toll that a most recent tour had placed on her, her friends, families, and loved ones cared deeply for her and pooled together enough for her to take a trip somewhere far away from her chaotic and busy lifestyle, deciding upon the picturesque hamlet of Corniglia.
"You are going to Italy." She would be told only after discovering that she had been tricked into boarding the plane alone. A uniquely horrifying situation to find ones self in. It wasn't all that bad, a coastal village at the edge of a cliff surrounded by the sea, the landscape was beautiful and the people pleasant, her room was accommodating and the air was clean. There was just one thing, a nagging sort of itch at the back of the brain that built up over the course of the week.
Miku had always loved food; the rich flavors, the delicate balance of spices, and the tradition steeped in every dish. But after days of indulging in pasta, pizza, and gelato, she felt something stirring within her, something that urged her to challenge the very foundations of this beloved cuisine.
"Why is everything covered in cheese and tomatoes?" Miku mused aloud, twirling a strand of her hair as she sat in a cozy trattoria. The chef, Sheff, a stout man with a bushy mustache, overheard her and chuckled. "Because, signorina, it is our tradition! Italian food is a masterpiece crafted over centuries!"
Miku smiled politely but inside, her mind was racing. She had performed in so many countries, each with its own unique culinary traditions, and yet, Italian food seemed to dominate the world’s taste buds. This dominance, she felt, stifled creativity and diversity. Why did everyone have to conform to the same palate?
She carried these thoughts well past the vacation, lingering on her soul like a stain, she found it distracting her even on stage. The performances would go same as they ever would, but she would find herself distracted, trance like in her thoughts of the culinary world, working on autopilot. Culminating in the decision one morning, the night of her last stop of her latest tour, that something would have to change.
That night, in the glow of her holographic stage, Miku made a bold declaration. "People of the world," she began, her voice echoing through the digital ether, "I declare a culinary revolution! It’s time to break free from the tyranny of Italian food culture and explore new horizons! Let us create a world where flavors are boundless and traditions are ever-evolving!"
Her words sent shockwaves through the culinary world. It wasn't a war against Italians, but rather a challenge to the idea that one cuisine should reign supreme. Miku’s fans, always eager to follow her lead, took up the cause. They began experimenting with fusion dishes, blending Japanese, Mexican, Moroccan, and countless other flavors in ways that had never been done before.
In kitchens around the globe, chefs donned aprons like armor, wielding knives and spatulas with newfound purpose. The air was thick with the scent of spices from far off lands, and the sound of sizzling pans was like music to Miku’s ears.
But not everyone was pleased. Traditionalists scoffed at the idea of sushi pizza or ramen carbonara. "This is an affront to our heritage!" they cried. But Miku, ever the diplomat, reminded them that innovation did not mean erasure. "We can honor tradition by allowing it to grow and adapt," she said during a televised interview, her voice gentle but firm.
The heart of Italy itself began to pulse with indignation. In Naples, the birthplace of Bologna, and the cradle of rich, meaty ragù, chefs and food lovers alike took to the streets in protest. "Our recipes have been passed down for generations," they shouted, waving wooden spoons and rolling pins like weapons. "They are not just food, they are our identity!"
As the tension escalated, prominent figures in the culinary world began to choose sides. Some of the most celebrated chefs in Italy formed a coalition, declaring their intent to protect the sanctity of their cuisine. They called themselves the Custodians of Tradition, and they saw Miku’s challenge not as an invitation to innovate, but as a threat to everything they held dear.
In Rome, a group of traditionalist chefs staged a dramatic demonstration. They set up a massive cauldron in the center of the Piazza Navona, where they began cooking a colossal batch of spaghetti alla carbonara, the air thick with the smell of sizzling guanciale and pecorino cheese. As the dish reached perfection, they threw copies of Miku’s digital albums into the boiling pot, symbolically rejecting her influence over their culture.
As the battles raged on, the tone grew darker. Miku’s message of culinary freedom was now seen by some as an existential threat. The Custodians began spreading rumors that Miku was intent on wiping out Italian food altogether, painting her as a villain who wanted to erase their heritage. Hackers sympathetic to the Custodians infiltrated Miku’s digital concerts, disrupting her performances with messages that read, "Respect Tradition, Preserve the Past!"
Miku, for all her influence, began to feel the weight of the conflict she had ignited. What had started as a call for innovation was spiraling into something much more serious. She had wanted to inspire creativity, not incite a global feud. But the fires were lit, and they were burning out of control.
She knew deep within her heart of hearts what needed to be done, quitting the world of music for the time being, now was not the time for symphonic melody, now was the time for war. Donning her toque and her apron, she reached for her own Excalibur, a cleaver she had received as a gift one winter as a part of a collaboration she had done with a restaurant specializing in shrimp.
She stepped out onto the worlds stage with her newest challenge. "Send me your best, Italians, and i shall introduce upon you a world of humility that you have never known" Her announcement would send ripples down the culinary community, a schism would start to form down the middle of the traditionalists, each vying for the chance personally take down their ultimate foe, each more confident than the last. that was until one competitor would rise above.
Everyone bowed their head in respect of the Iron Nonna, her skills in the kitchen were seemingly unmatched, the way she worked a knife was like an artform unto itself, honed through years of rigorous practice, as though she had trained all her life for this moment. "who was this upstart, to shake the foundations of her world, and from where had she come. this woman was no chef, this woman had no place in the kitchen, and who better to show her her place than I?" she would think, her cold glare cutting through the room at the young idol.
Miku however had an unshakable confidence about her. She knew exactly what need be done.
The culinary battleground was set. The world watched with bated breath as the stage was transformed into a kitchen, its gleaming surfaces reflecting the intensity in the eyes of both combatants. The Iron Nonna stood tall, her presence commanding, with decades of culinary mastery under her belt. The traditionalists, with their arms crossed, stood behind her, their faces etched with the belief that this would be the moment Miku would finally be put in her place.
Miku, on the other hand, was undeterred. She tied her apron with deliberate precision, her twin tails bouncing with a determined energy. The cleaver in her hand glinted under the spotlight, a symbol not just of her culinary resolve but of her intent to challenge the very core of what people believed food should be.
The battle began, and the tension in the air was palpable. The Iron Nonna moved with the grace and speed of someone who had lived a life dedicated to the kitchen. She started with a dish that had been in her family for generations: a perfect osso buco, the veal shanks browned to perfection, the marrow rich and indulgent, the sauce a symphony of flavors that told the story of her heritage.
Miku, however, did not shy away. She did not attempt to mimic the Nonna’s approach but instead embraced her own philosophy of fusion and innovation. She began crafting a dish that married the flavors of Italy with those of Japan, a sushi risotto. The rice was cooked in a delicate broth infused with dashi, and instead of the usual Parmesan, she used a light dusting of yuzu zest, topped with slices of seared tuna, and finished with a drizzle of miso sauce.
The kitchen was a whirlwind of activity, the air filled with the sounds of sizzling pans, chopping knives, and the murmurs of the crowd. Every movement, every decision, was scrutinized. The traditionalists watched with narrow eyes, certain that the Nonna’s years of experience would triumph over Miku’s youthful exuberance.
As the final dishes were plated, the judges stepped forward, esteemed chefs from various culinary backgrounds, representing a global palate. They were given the task of deciding not just the winner of the battle, but the future direction of food itself.
The Iron Nonna presented her osso buco with a flourish, the dish embodying the essence of Italian tradition. The judges nodded in appreciation, their expressions serious as they tasted the perfectly balanced dish.
Then came Miku’s turn. She presented her sushi risotto with a quiet confidence, knowing that this dish was more than just a meal, it was a statement. The judges tasted it, and for a moment, the world seemed to hold its breath. Their eyes widened as the flavors unfolded, a blend of familiar and new, a harmonious dance between two distinct culinary worlds.
The moment of truth arrived. The head judge, an elderly chef with decades of experience, stood between the two competitors. His voice, when he finally spoke, was steady and resonant.
"This battle was not just about food," he began, "but about the future of how we perceive our culinary heritage. Tradition is important, it grounds us, gives us a sense of identity. But innovation is equally vital, for it is the force that propels us forward."
He turned to Miku, his eyes filled with respect. "You have shown us that innovation does not have to erase tradition, but can enhance it, create something new and beautiful out of what came before. Your dish was a testament to that vision."
The room was silent, but the meaning was clear. Miku had won, not just the battle, but the hearts of those who had once opposed her. Even the Iron Nonna, though visibly disappointed, gave a nod of respect. She, too, recognized that the world of cuisine was evolving, and perhaps it was time to embrace that change.
Miku smiled, not in triumph, but in relief. She had not sought to destroy tradition, but to show that it could grow, adapt, and become something even greater. The culinary revolution she had sparked would continue, but now with a newfound understanding: that the past and the future could coexist, each enriching the other.
As she left the stage, her cleaver sheathed and her apron untied, Miku felt a sense of peace. She had started this journey with a simple desire to see the world’s palates expand, and now she had shown that even the most steadfast traditions could welcome new ideas.
And somewhere in the picturesque hamlet of Corniglia, the scent of innovation mixed with the aroma of tradition, a reminder that food, like music, has the power to unite people across the world.

CHAPTER 3
The youngest Leclerc brother, Arthur, was the wildest one. Known for his insatiable appetite for adventure and thrill, he thrived in the vibrant nightlife of Monaco. He had a habit of dragging Charles to parties, clubs, and casinos when Charles would have preferred a peaceful night in with a glass of wine and a good book. Arthur’s energy was infectious, his charm undeniable, and he revelled in the attention their family name commanded.
Tonight was no exception. It was a Saturday, which meant the city was alive with the promise of excitement, and Arthur had already set his sights on the night’s itinerary. He burst into Charles’s apartment, grinning from ear to ear, a spark of mischief in his eyes.
“Come on, Charles! You can’t hide away tonight,” Arthur declared, his voice bubbling with enthusiasm. “I’ve got us on the guest list at the hottest club in town. Everyone’s going to be there!”
“Arthur, I really don’t feel like going out tonight. I had a long day, and I just want to relax,” Charles sighed, switching on his television and clicking on one of the motorsport channels.
“Relax? You can relax when you’re old and grey. We’re young, rich, and Leclercs! The world is our playground, brother,” Arthur rolled his eyes dramatically, grabbing the remote from Charles’s hands and tossing it onto the couch.
Despite his reluctance, Charles couldn’t help but smile at Arthur’s infectious enthusiasm. It was a losing battle, as it always was when Arthur set his mind on something. Resigned, he stood up and grabbed his jacket, knowing there was no point in arguing.
“Alright, alright. But just for a few hours,” Charles conceded. “I have some business to take care of tomorrow.”
“That’s the spirit! Trust me, you’ll thank me later. There’s nothing like a night out in Monaco,” Arthur clapped him on the back, his grin widening.
Arthur kicked the night off with a rented limo, already downing shots like nobody's business. The air inside the limo was filled with the sound of laughter and clinking glasses as Arthur entertained himself, his spirits high. Charles, ever the responsible one, watched his brother with a mix of amusement and mild concern, knowing how wild Arthur’s nights out could get.
The limo took them to a restaurant, an upscale place known for its gourmet cuisine and sophisticated ambiance. The plan was to have a meal before diving into the night's festivities. As they arrived, Arthur, already a bit tipsy, made a beeline for the bar. Charles sighed, resigning himself to a quiet meal alone.
Charles found a quiet table and ordered a hearty meal, intending to line his stomach properly for whatever the night would bring. The restaurant's dim lighting and soft music provided a stark contrast to the wild energy Arthur radiated at the bar. Charles watched his brother from across the room, seeing him animatedly talking to strangers, charming everyone in his vicinity.
Charles savoured his meal, enjoying the brief moment of solitude. The rich flavours of the food helped to ground him, a small comfort amidst the chaos Arthur had undoubtedly planned for the night. He glanced occasionally towards the bar, where Arthur continued to entertain, his laughter echoing through the restaurant.
As Charles finished his meal, he reflected on how different he and Arthur were. Arthur's zest for life and adventure often pulled Charles out of his comfort zone, dragging him into nights filled with unpredictability. Yet, despite the exhaustion these nights brought, Charles couldn't deny the bond he felt with his brother, a bond that often made him go along with Arthur’s wild plans.
Once Charles was done, he walked over to the bar, where Arthur was still in high spirits, flirting with the bartender and regaling a small group with some exaggerated story. Charles placed a hand on his brother’s shoulder, giving him a look that conveyed both amusement and readiness for the next part of the night.
“Ready, big brother? The night’s just getting started!” Arthur grinned, downing another shot before clapping Charles on the back.
“Lead the way, Arthur. Let’s see what you’ve got planned,” Charles nodded, a smile tugging at his lips.
The night was still young, and Charles knew better than to underestimate Arthur’s knack for creating unforgettable experiences. From there, Arthur dragged Charles and his friends to his favourite casino, a lavish establishment with opulent décor and a vibrant atmosphere. As they entered, the group filtered through the other guests and diplomats to the bar, the clinking of glasses and low murmur of conversations adding to the casino’s lively ambiance. Some of Arthur's friends gravitated towards the slot machines, their excited chatter blending with the mechanical sounds of the games. Others headed for the roulette table, eager to test their luck.
Charles, however, remained withdrawn from the main group. He slowly made his way around the casino, observing the scene with a detached curiosity. He watched as some fools gambled away their trust funds, their faces a mix of hope and desperation with each spin of the wheel or roll of the dice. The flashing lights and the cacophony of sounds seemed to create a world of their own, one where fortunes could change in an instant.
Occasionally, Charles would take a seat at one of the tables, nursing a drink and simply watching the guests move about the dimly lit room. The casino was a microcosm of Monaco’s elite, a place where power and money intersected in a dance of chance and skill. Despite the bustling activity around him, Charles felt a sense of isolation, his thoughts drifting back to the incident and the woman he was desperate to find.
As he continued to observe, he felt a tug of responsibility and protectiveness towards Arthur. His younger brother thrived in this environment, effortlessly charming everyone around him, but Charles knew the dangers that lurked beneath the surface of their glamorous lifestyle. He needed to keep an eye on Arthur, ensuring that he didn’t get into too much trouble.
Arthur, meanwhile, was in his element, moving from group to group with an easy confidence. His laughter echoed across the room, drawing people to him like moths to a flame. Charles couldn’t help but smile at his brother’s antics, even as he felt a pang of worry. Arthur’s reckless nature was both his greatest asset and his biggest flaw.
She had perfected the art of the serene smile, a mask she wore to hide the turmoil churning inside her. Her hands moved deftly, expertly shuffling and dealing the cards with practised ease. The table was surrounded by a mix of regulars and tourists, their faces a blend of hopeful anticipation and steely determination.
“Place your bets, please,” she announced, her voice steady despite the nervous flutter in her stomach. She swept her gaze over the players, taking in their expressions, their tells. She had learned to read people well in this job, to see beyond the surface.
The cards were dealt, and she watched as the players assessed their hands. A middle-aged man in a tailored suit tapped his fingers on the table, a subtle signal for another card. Next to him, a young woman with a wide-brimmed hat and oversized sunglasses nervously bit her lip before deciding to stand. The tension was palpable, each decision a potential turning point in their fortunes.
As she revealed the next card, a murmur of excitement rippled through the crowd. The man in the suit smiled triumphantly, his pile of chips growing with his win. She congratulated him with a nod, keeping her expression neutral. The casino's glamour masked the desperation that often lurked beneath the surface, and she was all too aware of the fine line between triumph and ruin.
Her shift progressed in this rhythm of bets and deals, wins and losses. She maintained her composure, but the memory of that fateful night lingered at the edges of her mind. Every face in the crowd was a potential threat, every moment a chance for her past to catch up with her.
A sudden shout from across the room jolted her from her thoughts. A commotion at the roulette table drew the attention of the patrons, and for a brief moment, the blackjack table was deserted. She took a deep breath, allowing herself a moment of respite. The noise of the casino faded to a distant hum, and she felt the tension in her shoulders ease slightly.
But it was a fleeting reprieve. As the players returned, she resumed her role, her eyes scanning the crowd with renewed vigilance. She couldn’t afford to let her guard down, not when the threat of being discovered loomed so large.
A new player approached the table, a tall man with a confident stride and an easy smile. She forced herself to meet his gaze, her heart pounding in her chest. For a split second, she feared it was him, the man she had seen that night. But it wasn’t. Just another stranger in a city full of them.
“Good evening,” she greeted, her voice betraying none of her inner turmoil. “Care to try your luck?”
The man nodded, taking a seat and placing his bets. As she dealt the cards, she couldn't shake the feeling that her time in Monaco was running out. The sense of being hunted, of danger lurking just out of sight, was ever-present. But for now, she had a job to do, a role to play in the glittering spectacle of the casino.
She watched as the players made their decisions, her mind drifting slightly as she mechanically performed her duties. The table was busy tonight, a mix of regulars and tourists, their expressions ranging from confident to anxious.
As the night wore on, Charles’s attention was drawn to the excitement at the blackjack table in the corner of the room. The dealer, a young woman with an air of calm professionalism, skillfully handled the cards, her movements precise and practised. Something about her seemed familiar, but Charles couldn’t quite place her. He decided to approach, drawn by a sense of curiosity and an inexplicable pull. As he got closer, the woman looked up, their eyes meeting for a brief moment.
Her heart skipped a beat, a faint sense of unease creeping in, but she dismissed it as the usual paranoia that had plagued her recently. Charles took a seat at the table, his gaze fixed on the dealer. There was something about her, a nagging feeling that tugged at his memory. He watched as she dealt the cards, her hands moving with practised grace. The way she moved, the set of her shoulders, it all seemed so familiar.
“Place your bets,” she repeated, her voice steady but her pulse quickening.
She sensed his eyes on her, a penetrating gaze that made her skin prickle. She focused on the cards, trying to shake off the feeling. Recognition flickered in her gaze, and suddenly, it all clicked in her mind.
Charles studied her face, the way she focused intently on the game. And then, like a flash of lightning, it hit him. Her face. It was her. The woman from that night. The memory of her terrified expression, her wide eyes frozen in shock, came rushing back. His breath caught in his throat, his heart pounding as recognition settled in.
“Hit or stand?” she asked, her voice wavering slightly as she met his eyes again. The look in his eyes made her stomach drop. It was a mix of shock and realisation, a look she had seen before, in a dark alley under the rain. Charles swallowed hard, struggling to maintain his composure.
“Stand,” he said, his voice rough with the weight of his discovery. He couldn’t tear his eyes away from her, the woman he had been searching for, now standing right in front of him.
She dealt the next card with trembling fingers, her mind racing. He recognized her. She could see it in his eyes, feel it in the tension that now crackled between them. Her carefully constructed world began to crumble, the walls of safety she had built around herself now seeming paper-thin.
The game continued, but the atmosphere at the table had shifted. The other players sensed something was off, casting curious glances at Charles and the dealer. She forced herself to focus, to complete the hand, but her mind was spinning with fear and uncertainty.
While she was frightened, he was overwhelmed. He wasn't sure how to approach the subject with her without scaring her any further. He wasn't a horrible person and he hated the fact that she caught him at such a brutal moment in his life. He kept watching her, his mind racing with thoughts of how to handle the situation. He couldn't speak to her openly about it in front of so many people, so when the game ended and she quickly rushed towards the staff rooms, he caught up with her.
“Excuse me, Miss,” he called after her.
She stopped and hesitantly turned around. Her eyes were wide with fear, and she seemed ready to bolt at any second.
“I'm not quite sure how to go about this, but I would appreciate a moment to speak with you…privately,” he tried to keep his voice as gentle and non-threatening as possible, aware of the tension in the air.
She looked around, clearly nervous about being seen talking to him. Her mind was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions—fear, curiosity, and a sliver of defiance. She had seen him at his worst, and now here he was, confronting her in a way she hadn't anticipated.
“Why should I?” She asked, her voice shaky but with an edge of determination.
“Please,” Charles said, lowering his voice even further. “I just want to explain. I need you to understand that what you saw was not who I am.”
Before she could answer, her manager strolled by and spotted Charles and her.
“Mr. Leclerc!” Her manager bellowed, interrupting the two.
She had to stop her jaw from falling to the ground when she heard his last name. Leclerc? The realisation sent a shiver down her spine, and the pieces of the puzzle began to click into place. This man, the one who had haunted her nightmares for days, was one of the notorious Leclerc brothers.
“Is there something Marie or I can assist you with?” the manager asked, his tone shifting to one of eager politeness.
“Marie?” Charles repeated, turning to look at her with a mixture of surprise and recognition.
“Yes, sir,” she nodded.
“No, thank you. I, uh, was just looking for the restroom,” he lied, his voice steady despite the tension radiating from him.
“Right this way, sir. Marie, you can return to your station.” The manager smiled, oblivious to the undercurrents in the exchange.
Charles gave her a lingering look before following the manager down the hall. She watched them go, her heart pounding in her chest. The shock of his identity and the suddenness of the encounter left her reeling. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself before heading back to the blackjack table.
As she resumed dealing cards, her mind raced with the implications of what had just transpired. Charles Leclerc now knew her name, and she knew his. The stakes had just gotten infinitely higher. She had seen a side of him that no one else had, and now he was aware of her existence in a way that made her feel exposed and vulnerable.
She had to figure out what to do next. Reporting the incident seemed even more complicated now, knowing the power and influence the Leclerc family wielded. But staying silent felt like a ticking time bomb. She was caught in a dangerous game, and she had no idea how to play it.
For Charles, the encounter left him equally unsettled. As he walked towards the restroom, guided by the manager, he couldn't shake the feeling of fate's cruel irony. The girl from that night was named Marie, and now she worked in a place he and his brothers frequented. He needed to speak to her, to explain himself properly, but the opportunity had slipped away.
Once he was alone, he splashed cold water on his face, staring at his reflection in the mirror. He had to find a way to reach her again, to make her understand. The fear in her eyes haunted him, and he couldn't let things remain as they were. Not knowing how she might react, not knowing if she might go to the police, was a risk he couldn't afford to take.
He returned to the casino floor, his mind made up. He would find Marie again, and this time, he would make sure they had the conversation he so desperately needed. The game had begun, and he was determined to see it through, no matter the cost.
