Lan Xichen: Uncle, you seem almost...wistful lately.
Lan Qiren: It's nothing very important. I've received some insight that has reminded me of the happier moments of my youth.
Lan Xichen: Oh? May I ask what caused this?
Lan Qiren: As you're not doubt aware, Wei Wuxian harbors so level of affection for Wangji.
Lan Xichen: Yes. Although I must admit I thought that would aggravate you.
Lan Qiren: It did. It still does to an extent. But a few days ago, I witnessed that horrible boy walk into a wall because he was looking at Wangji and not where he was walking. It reminded me of how Wei Changze acted when he first fell in love with Cangse Sanren.
Lan Xichen: Really?
Lan Qiren: Yes. In short, the guest students this year show promise, the weather has been mild, and a Wei is pathetically in love. So I'm feeling a little nostalgic

happy international hot and spicy food day to wei wuxian
Tumblr media
(Image Description: The cover art for the extra episode Glutinous Rice Congee from the Chinese MDZS audio drama drawn in a cute simplistic comic style. There are two rows of tables with characters sat at it with Wei Wuxian in the bottom left hand corner. The character in the back row to the left is Lan Qiren. He is red in the face covering his mouth with red liquid around his fingers and his hand is slamming against the table holding a sign that reads zero in Hanzi (零). Lan Wangji is next to him in the back row in the middle. He is sipping on a bowl with a small amount of red liquid dripping over the top of the bowl, his eats are red and a bead of sweat is on his right cheek. He is gripping a sign that has the Hanzi for ten (拾). In the table in front of him has a plack with his name written on it like he's a judge in a contest. Next to him in the back row on the right end of the table is Jiang Cheng. He is looking at Lan Wangji to his left with a look of disbelief and much judgement (typical jc behaviour). He's holding a sign that says the Hanzi for the number three (叁). In the front row to the left is Lan Jingyi. His tongue is out and he is red in the face and on his ears. He is looking very worriedly at Lan Qiren. On the table in front of him is a bowl of red glutinous rice congee with a soup in the bowl and a little of the liquid has spilled onto the table. He has a name plack in front of him too and he's holding a sign that has the number one in Hanzi (壹) on it. Lan Sizhui is sat next to him in the front row to the right. He has a slight blush on his cheeks and ears. His mouth is open in an O shape and he's looking at Lan Qiren. On the table in front of him is a bowl of the glutinous rice congee and he has a name plack. He's holding a sign in his left hand with the number eight in Hanzi (捌) on it. Wei Wuxian is in the bottom left hand corner smiling with his eyes closed holding a big steaming pot of glutinous rice congee with cloth to act as oven gloves. Rising from the pot is a mist of red and little stars. He has a slight blush to his cheeks and he's wearing a pink-ish white bandana on his head. There is a little heart to the right of him <3)

I desperately want an AU where Lan Qiren helps his sister-in-law (yet unnamed) escape Cloud Recesses with her children, but for various reasons finds he can’t join them as he’d originally planned. After a long handful of years, a devastated woman begs him to take her infant daughter somewhere she’d be safe, from both her husband and the baby’s father. Lan Qiren, now the proud father of one lovely Lan Su, makes it his mission to hunt down all of Jin Guangshan’s illegitimate children and give them (and their mothers) the best life he possibly can.

My favourite iteration of a supportive Lan Qiren in fanfictions is when it can be boiled down to: Lan Wangji walks into Lan Qiren's room one day and stares at him blankly for a few moments, before raising his arm. Upon his arm, is an enthusiastic Wei Wuxian, clinging to it with all four limbs and a feral grin (this is exaggerated in Lan Qiren's eyes). "I want to keep him." Lan Wangji says calmly, waving around the parasite latched onto his arm. "Are you sure? I'm quite sure he's got rabies." Lan Qiren responds doubtfully. Lan Wangji nods. Lan Qiren sighs, placing his head in his hands - why oh why could his nephews not have better taste in men? - before waving away the man. "Very well, but you have to take him out on walks every day." "Mn." "Even when it rains." "Mn." And that's it.

Lan Wangji is a greatly misunderstood character in this fandom. I think it's partly because the fandom tends to misinterpret Wei Wuxian's influence on him, which has to do with how Lan Wangji's attitude towards rules changed after the time skip. In my opinion, some fans interpret this to mean that before the time skip Lan Wangji had prioritized the rules over doing the right thing, and that he changed because of Wei Wuxian. This is untrue.
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji have always had very similar moral compasses. However, they grew up in very different environments, and have always had vastly different social status. To me, this is why, when faced with the sects' bigotry pre-timeskip, they reacted very differently despite agreeing as to which side was in the right.
Lan Wangji grew up in the Lan Sect, a place where the rules are highly valued and enforced, and under the care of Lan Qiren who, despite his flaws, was a very reliable parental figure to his two nephews as they grew up. Moreover, the Lan sect is the one place where the rules seem to be enforced impartially most of the time (I'm not going to account for the Madam Lan's situation, because the novel never gives us a clear answer as to what exactly happened in the past).
Having grown up in such an environment, with such an identity, it makes perfect sense for a teenager Lan Wangji to believe that most, if not all problems, can be solved through the system. It would make no sense if, upon learning about what had happened to the Wen remnants, Lan Wangji's reaction had been to abandon everything and go live in the burial mounds with Wei Wuxian (and let's not forget that Lan Wangji did not actually learn the truth about the Wen Remnants at the same time that Wei Wuxian did, he had to sneak around to be able to see Wei Wuxian in person and find out the more accurate information this way). On top of everything else, his sect -his family- was actively restraining him.
So, Lan Wangji's reaction was to verbally defend Wei Wuxian and to use his reputation and political weight (which was not that much considering he wasn't a sect leader and his sect had still been rebuilding at that point) to try to sway the public sentiment in the right direction.
And at one point, it seemed doable. When Wei Wuxian was invited to Jin Ling's 100 day celebration, that seemed to be a sign that the sects might be willing to compromise. Even Wei Wuxian thought so, despite not trusting them completely.
Then, it turned out to be a trap
All of the events that happened from this point forward showed Lan Wangji that he couldn't trust the system. Outside of the Lan sect, the rules didn't matter, only power and status did. The system was skewed in favor of those in power, regardless of who was right. And that was a lesson Lan Wangji had to learn the hard way. Moreover, Lan Wangji was forced to face the fact that when the sect's interests were put in the balance, even the Lan Sect didn't stand on the side of good. While they didn't necessarily support corruption openly, they did deliberately avoid investigating anything properly. They chose to believe the information provided by the Jin sect -their sponsor- despite Lan Wangji's attempts to tell them the truth. It also exposed the Lan sect's hypocrisy, because they, too, judged Wei Wuxian based on his cultivation and his social status, which led Lan Wangji to understand that the rules couldn't possibly account for the complexities of real life - this why he refused to "repent" even as he was being whipped bloody by his sect.
So it wasn't Wei Wuxian's influence that taught Lan Wangji to stop relying on the rules, it was the experience of trying so hard to do what was right, having followed all the rules, only to be betrayed by the system he had trusted. That's why after the time skip he no longer relied on the rules. He respected the rules when possible, but he didn't take them as seriously as before.
Wei Wuxian, on the other hand, grew up very differently. His parents had been rogue cultivators - people who lived freely without being restrained by sect rules. When they died, he became a beggar at a young age, and while this experience didn't break him, it did teach him to be self-reliant. Later, he became a disciple of the Jiang sect, where the Madam was a lunatic who was obsessed with his mother and targeted him everywhere. Wei Wuxian was also placed as a companion and retainer to Jiang Cheng, who was a piece of work even as a child and became progressively worse as the story went on. By the time Wei Wuxian rescued the Wen Remnants, Jiang Cheng had grown to be a cowardly, stupid, jealous asshole. That's to say, the authority figure in the sect he had been a part of was utterly unreliable - had been unreliable under Jiang Fengmian, but became even more unreliable under Jiang Cheng.
Having grown up in such an environment, Wei Wuxian had always known that the rules apply differently to people of different social status, regardless of right or wrong. Even so, Wei Wuxian did express his point verbally at the Jin sect's banquet, only to have it dismissed by that loser Jin Zixun and his corrupt uncle Jin Guangshan, solely based on Wei Wuxian's lower social status. Therefore, Wei Wuxian chose to take action directly, because he already knew there would be no way he could get the right thing done by following the rules. He was right about that.
This doesn't mean Wei Wuxian is morally superior to Lan Wangji. They were both teenagers dealing with a problem that was much bigger than themselves, in a situation where the odds were stacked firmly against them. They both did the best they could in the only way they knew how.
Later on both of them felt that there were things they could have done differently, but that's because they had matured and gained more experience. Their moral compass did not change.

Wei Wuxian is arrogantly proud of himself. But he is also very readily able to back up that claim. He is unfazed when people call him as such because he is talented, he is smart, he is strong, and he is very sure of his own self in the world and knows how he is seen by the world. He is unapologetic about himself and this is what is looked down on within the jianghu gentry he is a part of.
Despite his own wits and talent, it is still to taken at the gratitude of the gentry; Madam Yu and Jiang Cheng mask this by claiming he is indebted and with that debt he is not allowed to just be talented and competent, it was they that gave him that chance to use it to begin with.
Lan Qiren, with a bias against Wei Wuxian's mother, refuses to give merit to Wei Wuxian's theories and dismisses him as lesser based on his decades old grudge despite the depth and reason of Wei Wuxian's own arguments at the age of fifteen.
Jin Guanshan and Jin Guangyao rely on the widespread classism of the clans themselves (and Jiang Cheng's own entitlement and jealousy) to besmirch Wei Wuxian's honor and loyalty to claim he is actually power hungry and looking to disrupt the chain of traditions for cultivators.
Lan Xichen despite his supposed altruism chooses to follow the words of his fellow clan leaders and outright states he thinks Wei Wuxian has become something he is not, much to the obvious distress of Lan Wangji who vocally tried to just support Wei Wuxian's character and honor with Mianmian.
Nie Mingjue doesn't even take into account Wei Wuxian's protection of the Wens due to his blood libel for any remaining named Wens.
In each of these interactions while Wei Wuxian is very clear in intent and purpose it is others that choose to take his words and actions as lesser and morph them into a threat it is not, and then bring up his status of a servant with arrogance. Arrogance granted by his supposed favored position instead of the necessary armor for his own worth that is denied and made less.

"so begins an incredibly awkward and unpleasant marriage"
consider the following sequence of events:
jiang yanli survives the nightless city massacre. she was still severely injured by wei wuxian's out-of-control zombie, but the cultivator who went after wei wuxian struck with less force than he did in canon, so when she pushed wei wuxian out of the way, she survived. unfortunately, getting hit by wei wuxian's out-of-control zombie did permanently disable her, but she is still alive.
jin guangshan and almost all of the other jins who showed up to the nightless city pledge conference die in the massacre. now, pretty much the only remaining jin is jin guangyao, who survived by using an advanced tactic called hiding under a rock until everything was over.
afterwards, lan wangji still flees nightless city with wei wuxian in tow, and still injures 33 elders from his own sect when they come after him. wei wuxian still tells him to fuck off in response to his love confession (rip). just as in canon, lan wangji is still taken back to the cloud recesses and struck 33 times with the discipline whip for his transgressions.
however, the injuries lan wangji deals to these 33 elders are more severe than they were in canon. this is entirely by accident.
while the jin are reeling from the massive power vacuum the nightless city massacre left in their leadership, jiang cheng takes the chance to raid the burial mounds with only forces from yunmeng jiang. jiang cheng returns triumphant, claiming that he has killed the yiling patriarch and all of his wen followers, and that the yiling patriarch destroyed both halves of the yin tiger tally before jiang cheng killed him. as evidence of his claims, jiang cheng presents the severed head of wei wuxian.
due to the heavier injuries than in canon, at least one of those 33 elders injured by lan wangji dies. due then to this, lan xichen and lan qiren's bid to save lan wangji by having him whipped instead of executed fails, and the rest of gusu lan calls for lan wangji's execution anyways.
while this is happening, just as in canon, a half-dead lan wangji drags himself to the burial mounds, unable to accept that wei ying is now gone without seeing the situation with his own eyes. unlike in canon, however, lan wangji does not find wen yuan; instead, all he sees are a small group of unidentified people along with one jiang wanyin, before he collapses.
upon seeing a bloodied hanguang-jun basically Eat Shit And Collapse right in front of him, jiang cheng panics. so instead of bringing lan wangji back to the cloud recesses, he instead brings lan wangji back to lotus pier. jiang cheng then communicates lan wangji's whereabouts to lan xichen; however, lan xichen tells jiang cheng that it actually might be better for lan wangji to stay and recuperate at lotus pier.
lan xichen realizes that he can save lan wangji from execution if lan wangji is married out of the gusu lan sect and into another sect. thus, by promising yunmeng jiang significant rewards and favorable deals with gusu lan, lan xichen is eventually able to convince jiang cheng to marry lan wangji.
so now lan wangji is having a Bad Time. first, he's literally married to the guy who killed wei ying and then paraded wei ying's severed head around for the entire jianghu to see. second, he's recovering from not only heartbreak but also the fun experience of being whipped nearly to death, and unlike in canon he does not have his more supportive family members around (ie. lan xichen) to support him; instead, he's stuck alone in lotus pier where he literally does not have a single friend. third, he does not even have a-yuan with him as he does in canon - instead, as far as he knows, a-yuan is dead. at the hands of the man he was forced to marry.
meanwhile, basically everyone at lotus pier, jiang wanyin included, completely ignores him and only interacts with him when they absolutely have to; ie. when it's their turn to take care of his medical needs. outside of these moments of absolute necessity, no one talks to him at all. pretty soon, lan wangji figures out that his disdain for yunmeng jiang and jiang cheng in particular is in fact reciprocated: they hate him just as much as he hates them.
from what lan wangji can tell, this is because, when lan wangji initially arrived at lotus pier, jiang cheng actually tried to have a civil convesation with him; however, lan wangji immediately started giving jiang cheng shit for killing wei wuxian, so jiang cheng went Ok Fuck You Too and decided to be a hater 5ever. and the rest of yunmeng jiang is fanatically loyal to jiang cheng, so they just follow his lead. even when he didn't ask them to do that.
because of the above factors, lan wangji's condition begins to deteriorate.
after lan wangji's primary physician advises to jiang cheng that the worsening of lan wangji's condition is probably due in no small part to psychological distress, jiang cheng tries to prod his disciples into treating lan wangji less coldly. in particular, he tries to get some of the younger (and thus less haterish) disciples to interact with lan wangji. note that this decision was made solely out of worry for the political relationship between yunmeng jiang and gusu lan, and not at all out of concern for lan wangji as a person.
jiang cheng eventually succeeds in this, so as lan wangji recovers well enough to begin receiving visitors for brief periods of time, some of the younger disciples start visiting him.
one day, lan wangji notices that one of these younger disciples is really obviously just wen yuan in purple yunmeng robes. however, this kid does not recognize lan wangji, and indeed seems to have no memories of anything before a certain point at all. when lan wangji asks about this, jiang cheng fully denies that this could be the case, and instead insists that he knows that wen yuan is dead. then, after this conversation happens, the kid who looks like wen yuan stops visiting lan wangji.
as time passes, lan wangji, physically at least, continues to recover; soon, he's well enough to take short walks around lotus pier (though he still can't be out and about for too long, or engage in any strenous activity). now, lan wangji could understand "wen yuan"'s disappearance back when he was bedridden; maybe this kid just did not want to be around someone who looked half-dead all the time. however, as lan wangji increasingly explores lotus pier, not once does he come across "wen yuan." this concerns him and he begins to wonder if something happened to "wen yuan." his concern only increases when every single yunmeng jiang disciple he runs into denies that such a person ever existed to begin with. as lan wangji continues to fail to locate "wen yuan," lan wangji becomes increasingly concerned. what is this kid doing here, in the house of those who killed his family? why does everyone insist he does not exist? and what happened to his memory - was it erased?
lan wangji also finds that there is a certain area in lotus pier that absolutely no one save jiang wanyin and a small handful of his inner circle are allowed to enter. all of the other, typically rambunctuous and disobedient jiang disciples fully respect this rule, too, which lan wangji finds odd. even more notably, lan wangji comes to realize that, despite being busy with the rebuilding of a recently-decimated sect, jiang wanyin is still somehow finding the bandwidth to disappear into this restricted area for extended periods of time.
since "wen yuan" continues to elude him, lan wangji thus decides to find himself some answers by breaking into this restricted area.
upon sneaking into the restricted area one evening, while jiang wanyin and a good chunk of his disciples are away for a discussion conference, lan wangji finds what appears to be an ordinary set of storerooms. then the illusion is promptly shattered when lan wangji opens a door at random and finds an entire room full of wei ying severed heads. just then, jiang wanyin's party returns to lotus pier from the discussion conference. before lan wangji is able to exit, jiang wanyin enters the restricted area with his second-in-command; lan wangji is thus forced to hide in the severed head room. and, as lan wangji hides, he overhears an ominous conversation between jiang wanyin and his second-in-command: jiang wanyin asks if hanguang-jun really knows about "the wen kid," which the second-in-command confirms. jiang wanyin then says that they will have to take care of that problem.
then, instead of leaving, jiang wanyin and his second-in-command settle in to work on some project, thus blocking lan wangji's egress. fortunately for lan wangji, the restricted area seems to be arranged in one long hallway, with an entrance at the front (through which lan wangji entered) and an entrance at the back (which lan wangji has yet to explore). not wanting to be caught here by jiang wanyin, lan wangji decides to take his chances with the back exit.
as lan wangji sneaks down the hallway, he passes one door that seems significantly more heavily warded than all the other doors in the restricted area, and indeed all the other doors in all of lotus pier; however, there is a small transparent section in the door that allows one to see into the room. inside this room, lan wangji sees - ringed by countless arrays of unknown function that pulsate a dark red against the unnatural black gloom of the room itself, that grim red light tracing skeletal cheekbones and sunken eye sockets - the still body of wei wuxian, his head still very much attached to his body.
then lan wangji hears jiang wanyin coming down the hallway, so he bolts for the exit.
so now lan wangji is freaking out. he doesn't know why jiang wanyin has wei ying's body or what he's doing with it - especially since the body's head was definitely still attached, even though jiang wanyin had claimed to have beheaded wei ying. lan wangji also now has confirmation that the "wen yuan" he met was in fact the real wen yuan - and that jiang wanyin is now considering "taking care of that problem."
lan wangji does not like the sound of that. lan wangji does not like the sound of that at all. so lan wangji decides that neither he nor a-yuan need to be around to find out just what "taking care of the problem" entails.
now that lan wangji knows wen yuan exists, he is able to figure out that the jiang disciples are actively conspiring to keep wen yuan away from him; once he knows that, he's then soon able to outsmart them and find wen yuan. wen yuan seems strangely wary of lan wangji, but lan wangji is eventually able to convince him that he's trustworthy.
then, as soon as he is able to do so, lan wangji grabs wen yuan, breaks back into the restricted area, steals the body of wei ying, and then books it out of lotus pier.
as you might expect, lan wangji does not make it very far. for one, he's still physically recovering from his ordeal with the discipline whip, and is thus not yet cleared for extended periods of swordflight. more importantly, though - shortly after they exit lotus pier, wei wuxian's body begins to convulse. his eyes fly open, except both his sclera and his irises are pitch black. his mouth opens in a wail - except, instead of his voice, what comes pouring out is black smoke. and then, rather horrifyingly, large red tears open all across wei wuxian's skin, as if his body were actively splitting into countless pieces.
it's at this point that jiang wanyin + disciples catch up with lan wangji. lan wangji panics, attacks jiang wanyin and nearly cuts his arm off in the process, and is ultimately subdued by the jiang disciples. jiang wanyin, meanwhile, immediately bundles wei wuxian's convulsing body back to lotus pier. the jiang disciples take lan wangji and a crying wen yuan back to lotus pier as well.
jiang wanyin is absent for the rest of the day, and the rest of the night as well. the next morning, looking rather panda-like due to the notable dark bags under his eyes, jiang wanyin explains to lan wangji what is actually going on.
as everyone who is reading this has probably guessed already, jiang cheng did not actually kill wei wuxian and then cut off his head; instead, jiang cheng had a fake wei wuxian severed head made so he could pretend he did so. instead, (since jiang yanli had survived and jiang cheng's rage-and-betrayal levels were thus much lower than they were in canon) jiang cheng had fully intended on faking the first siege of the burial mounds to secretly drag wei wuxian back to lotus pier.
however, by the time jiang cheng reached wei wuxian, the latter had already begun destroying the yin tiger tally and was thus in the process of getting hit with backlash. yunmeng jiang was able to perform a temporal stasis ritual that froze wei wuxian's body in that moment in time, thus preventing him from dying. they then dragged him, in that state, back to lotus pier. the special room in which lan wangji saw wei wuxian's body, with all the unknown arrays in it, is in fact a specialized chamber designed to preserve and extend this temporal stasis.
as for why yunmeng jiang treated lan wangji so coldly, and why no one let him in on the secret - they did not trust him. none of them knew that lan wangji was in love with wei wuxian; thus, as far as they knew, lan wangji as a righteous cultivator would have exposed all of them to the jianghu the moment he found out, thus dooming both wei wuxian and lotus pier.
meanwhile, jiang cheng in particular bears a grudge towards lan wangji not just for what the latter said about jiang cheng killing wei wuxian when he first arrived at lotus pier; rather, from jiang cheng's pov, the criticism loudly and publicly levied towards wei wuxian's demonic cultivation by hanguang-jun during the sunshot campaign served as a jumping-off-point for every other criticism of wei wuxian's demonic cultivation post-sunshot. while the impact of lan wangji's vocal disapproval of wei wuxian's methods on wei wuxian's later downfall is probably completely negligible, jiang cheng still sees lan wangji as one of the first people in an eventual tidal wave of haters to criticize wei wuxian for demonic cultivation.
so now lan wangji is in the know. naturally, lan wangji agrees to keep this under wraps, and to aid in efforts to find a way to revive wei wuxian without killing him.
however, lan wangji still does not like jiang cheng (he tells himself it's because jiang cheng still created this situation to begin with by ~abandoning wei ying~, but in reality it's also because jiang cheng was a dick to lan wangji specifically), and jiang cheng does not like lan wangji either (because lan wangji's paranoid "i'm in a horror movie" bullshit nearly got wei wuxian destroyed).
so begins an incredibly awkward and unpleasant marriage.

Nielan modern au where they were childhood friends that lost contact after high school and only meet again when they are picking up their significantly younger brothers (Huaisang is officially adopted by Mingjue. Wangji was technically adopted by Lan Qiren but Xichen does all the actual parenting) up from the same daycare and immediately bond over how hard it is to be father, mother, and older brother.
This includes notable moments such as:
Xichen calling Mingjue in tears because Wangji bit a boy (Wei Wuxian) at daycare and clearly this means Xichen failed him somewhere (“Da-ge stop laughing!”)
Mingjue FaceTiming Xichen at fuck off early in the morning with Huaisang crying becuase his brother really wants his hair braided but Mingjue can’t figure out the stupid fucking video (“Xichen I will drive over there if you don’t stop giving me that look I swear to god.”)
Xichen has to drag Wangji over to demonstrate because he can’t explain it right so they go to daycare with matching hairstyles. Huaisang is thrilled. Wangji seems like he’s chill about it but he did try to bite a different kid for trying to mess up his hair so clearly he likes it more than it seems.
Both of them tripping into an impromptu older sibling support group after Yanli, who is parenting both Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng (pray for her honestly. I don’t think both A-Ying and A-Cheng have been out of some kind of cast at the same time since she adopted them and they will not stop dating each other to do things that end in hospital trips) makes Wei Wuxian apologize to Wangji and lets slip that she and Wen Qing get coffee and compare notes for being SIbling Parents
Wangji giving both of them a very impressive presentation (for a preschooler) on why pets are good for growing children as a reason for why he needs bunnies and A-Sang needs birds. Neither of them will admit they were already going to say yes before A-Sang started crying.
Drunken Lan shenanigans on the one (1) night they could all get babysitters
Xichen calling Mingjue in tears again because Wangji made a friend (“A-Sang doesn’t count da-ge he’s an inherited friend. A friend in law. Yes it’s the same child he bit, why do you ask?”) and clearly this means Xichen is learning how to move past generational trauma and oh god does this mean he will find a new way to fuck Wangji up?
Drunken Lan Shenanigans extend to adult strength cold medicine which was only learned after a very sniffly and miserable sounding Wangji called Da-ge for reinforcements.
Wen Qing is 🤏 this close to locking these two idiots in a room until they get catch up to the program and realize the entire parenting group for the day care has been assuming they’re going to get married any day now. She’ll even provide free childcare. What do you mean she has something going on with Yanli? Clearly they’re just very close friends supporting each other through raising their younger brothers.
Nie Mingjue and his bitter rival That One Auntie who keeps grabbing the last pack of the specific snacks he likes at the grocery store no matter what time he goes or when the store restocks. (“She’s doing it on purpose Xichen! I don’t know how but she is!”)
And more :)

Wei Wuxian: I've come to ask for Sanctuary for myself and the Wens
Lan Qiren: Then you came here to waste your time
Wei Wuxian: If you allow us to stay, the Lan sect will gain the best healer of my generation-
Lan Qiren: And the niece of the foulest man of mine
Wei Wuxian: -A bunch of old people for you to talk to-
Lan Qiren: A bunch of Wen dogs
Wei Wuxian: Alright, alright. I was saving this. But allow me to introduce you to the cutest little radish that has ever existed! This is A-Yuan!
A-Yuan: Hello! 😃
Lan Qiren: ....Hello
Wei Wuxian: I am prepared to give you exclusive Grandfather rights to A-Yuan in exchange for our safety
Lan Qiren:..... Why would I want that?
Wei Wuxian: What a ridiculous question! Let me demonstrate. A-Yuan, sweetie, greet your grandfather properly! Just like we practiced, alright
A-Yuan: A-Yuan greets his Grandfather😇! It's very nice to meet you😊
Lan Qiren:......
Wei Wuxian: Don't forget! If you accept, you'll be a grandfather before Jin Guangshan!
Lan Qiren:... Your negotiating skills have improved drastically. Very well. Wen Qing will be allowed her practice within Cloud Recesses, and your refugees will be given suitable land and supplies, and we will even forgive your past transgressions. In exchange, A-Yuan will be raised as one of us and follow our principles

I don't really like Lan Zhan in The Untamed
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but Lan Zhan kind of bothers me in the drama. He always seems bored and annoyed by everything, he never talks, he comes across as emotionless, and he only seems to care when something is related to Wei Wuxian, which is pretty selfish I think. I have trouble connecting to him.
For example, Lan Xichen has always been there for him, always supporting him no matter what, even when he had no reason to believe him or when protecting him could have put him in trouble. But has Lan Zhan ever done anything for his brother? No. He seems to care mostly about himself and Wei Ying. For instance, when everyone was against Wei Wuxian except for Lan Zhan, Lan Xichen helped by hiding him in the Cloud Recesses, even though he had no proof and no reason to believe that Wei Ying wasn’t evil (let me remind you that all the other clan leaders were against Wei Wuxian at that time, so Xichen could have easily gone along with them on this). But he took that risk, because he always trusted his brother.
But when the situation is reversed and it's Jin Guangyao who is accused of being evil, does Lan Zhan do anything to support his brother? No… he only stands by Wei Ying’s side, even though he himself has no proof against Meng Yao (in the end, it was proven that they were right about Meng Yao, but at the time, there was no way to be sure). Xichen could also have trusted Nie Mingjue over his brother when it came to Wei Ying (since Mingjue also believed Wei Wuxian was evil), but he didn’t. So, when it’s about Wei Ying, Lan Zhan is willing to believe he’s still a good person, but when it comes to other people like Meng Yao, he doesn’t even try to give them the benefit of the doubt (even though his only proof against him was what Wei Ying reported him, since he's the only one who used Empathy on Mingjue). I guess he’s blinded by his love for Wei Ying, but that’s pretty selfish.
Now, I want to say that I do like Lan Zhan in the donghua. He’s way more likable and seems less selfish and more focused on justice. He's actually one of my favourite characters. I don’t know about the novel, as I haven’t read it.
People hating Lan Xichen...
I also saw people saying they hate Lan Xichen, and I was shocked. How can you hate someone who has always been good to others?
People say he was too passive, but they forget that he’s a clan leader. He cannot do whatever he wants in his position; he has to put his clan’s safety first. What if he had publicly protected Wei Ying? He could have turned all the other clans against him and his own clan. (The Untamed clearly shows how dangerous public opinion can be.) It’s just like when the Jin clan wanted to kill the innocent Wen people—Xichen didn’t agree with it but couldn’t openly oppose the decision of the other clans. Also, Xichen did help a lot more compared to the other clan leaders. Wei Wuxian's own brother did nothing to help him. Huaisang, Wei Ying's former friend, did nothing either, and Mingjue was clearly against Wei Ying. Same with Jin Guangshan.
Then people say he was too naive. Maybe he was, but that’s because he believed there was good in everyone. That’s why he trusted Jin Guangyao, thinking he still had some good in him despite everything he had done. If Xichen hadn’t been like that, he would have thought Wei Wuxian was pure evil, just like the others did.
I also saw people complaining that Xichen didn’t protect his brother when Lan Qiren punished him for injuring thirty-three elders of the Gusu Lan clan. Well… The Gusu Lan clan has strict rules, and attacking clan elders—no matter the reason—shouldn’t go unpunished. The rules are absolute and apply to everyone, even Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen. Lan Xichen is someone who follows justice and tradition, so he was in a difficult position. Even though he loves his brother, he was raised to respect the discipline of the clan. Intervening would have been seen as disrespectful to his uncle and to the laws of Gusu Lan. Also, Lan Wangji himself probably wouldn’t have accepted his help. Lan Wangji is extremely rigid and committed to his own moral code. He chose to act, knowing full well that he would be punished. Even though he suffered, he accepted the consequences of his actions. And in the end, Lan Qiren holds too much authority. Lan Xichen has a lot of respect for his uncle, who acted as a parental figure after their parents died. He wouldn’t have dared to openly contradict him. However, he did support his brother afterward, helping him recover and always staying by his side. That’s just his way—he prefers to offer support in the shadows rather than openly defy the rules. In the end, Lan Xichen is a good person, but he also believes in order and discipline. He surely thought Lan Wangji had to take responsibility, even if it broke his heart. Also, he was raised by his uncle to respect the rules and was used to being punished himself, so I’m pretty sure he was scared to oppose his uncle.
That’s it! If you have a different opinion, I totally respect it. :) I just wanted to share mine!

hi hello sorry for the lack of posts lately ; - ; there has also been some lack of drawing but not actually as much as the silence here makes it seem haha. i have a few pieces to post which i just never got round to, even though some of them were ready approximately three million years ago. here is one of them!
this was done a while ago for the Bearer of Light LWJ zine! links to the pdf are here~ i just think, baby twin jades. thank you for your consideration.
this has alt text. extended image description below the cut.
In a clear pool shaded by trees, a young Lan Wangji, his face serious and focused, practices swimming. He holds onto his brother's outstretched hands for support, and water splashes behind him as he kicks. Lan Xichen pulls him along with an encouraging smile. In the background, Lan Qiren watches over them from the banks.
Watercolour on paper.

I will not have Lan Xichen slander.
He is actually very smart and a great sect leader.
The only mistake he did was not being able to see past Jin Guangyao's kindness towards him and even that isn't his fault because JGY really was that bitch who rose from nothing and had the whole cultivation world in his hand.
Heck he would have continued to have it in his hand if it wasn't for NHS who succeeded in bringing wwx back.
Like thinking Lan Xichen of all people was stupid to not see his real face is both an insult to him and JGY.
Also you people forget that JGY has done a lot of good things as well. He isn't just a bad person, he's a person who is willing to do bad things to keep his power because he will not allow himself to be powerless again.
And when you look at the big picture it makes complete sense Lan Xichen would trust JGY over NMJ.
Lan Xichen has his own strict morals but he also sees the world in all of it's colours and that just shows in him cultivating a technique to be able to drink without getting drunk.
It's not just a fun little thing but shows his own code and how he looks at life.
When we meet him first, we see he is way more forgiving of Wei Wuxian and his antics than any Lan and even encourages Lan Wangji to give it a chance and be friends.
And this point Lan Wangji is just as bad as Qiren when it comes to upholding rules, (not bad as in bad person) and Lan Xichen pushes him towards Wei Wuxian because he clearly is not someone who follows rules blindly and it does help Lan Wangji.
Wei Wuxian is the reason Lan Wangji actually thinks of the rules and considers them, forming his own opinions on them and during all of this Lan Xichen is open and accepting of questions and patience. Because he trusts Wangji will come to the right path eventually and this time it wouldn't be him following rules blindly but they would guide him to the path he wants to take.
And then the war happens and Lan Xichen is forced to abandon his family to protect his sect and he does so.
In his lowest moment he meets JGY and is a witness to his kindness and support and at this moment Lan Xichen could give him nothing and maybe jgy tells him the truth about the general or maybe half a truth, either way, he hears his side too.
And then JGY takes on a very dangerous mission to play spy on WRH and they win mainly because JGY took these steps whole endangering himself, when it could have been so easy for him to betray others.
Also during this time him and NMJ have not been talking about JGY.
And by the time NMJ starts talking about JGY, JGY has done more rights than wrongs in Lan Xichen's book, you can't judge a person by just one action afterall, you need to consider the possibilities. Also his raging screaming and yelling black and white morals is not something that can shake Lan Xichen when he is analysing that at this point JGY is on their side and has been from the start.
Like even the reason for the proposed brotherhood was a political move and not just him wanting for his friends to get along. (When I remove my 3zun goggles*cough*) Because the high friction between Nie Mingjue and Jin clan could have very well started another war because let's remember - NMJ was highly unstable and could easily be triggered into it unless he was held back by something like a sworn brother pact- the sworn brothers pact would bring the largest three clans remaining to be tied together and unable to start another war that would cause even more harm.
Because Lan Xichen's first and foremost priorities are to avoid another war or discord that could cause casualties. He is out there taking disrespect from the kinds of Jin Zixun biting his tongue about Su She to maintain the peace in the cultivation world.
And in defense JGY does try to fix things with NMJ at the start(until nmj insulted his mom which is the trigger for him to have done almost all the on screen kills except maybe wrh) , he is indeed, kind and respectful and he did a lot for Gusu sect, all of that has got to add up.
JGY plays a dirty political game but he also did a lot of good for the cultivation world.
With the side that JGY maintains in front of LXC it's way more surprising that LXC even gave LWJ and WWX a chance to present their case.
But that was also only because Lan Xichen will always love and trust his brother, even if according to him the brother is once again back with his "toxic" situationship that almost killed him 13/16 years ago.
This is the one of the few time he chooses his brother over his sect leader duties.
Because if he was to follow the path as the sect leader the evidence presented until then compared to the words just words and no physical evidence shared by Lwj and WWX it's clear which choice he should have made.
Even in the end when we know that it is a fact that JGY has in fact never harmed or even tried to harm LXC, he still takes a stand against him. Is willing to die beside him for the one mistake he made of trusting JGY and it wasn't a blind trust, it was trust built up over months, years during and after the war.
Anyways, Lan Xichen my beloved you are doing good, great even come out of seclusion 🥺.

5. Hi! 🤗
This one is for ITMF. I'd like to read new fics about WWX having a new golden core. No mordern fics or dark ones, please, I'm not in the mood 🙏. I want happy endings!
Thanks again! You make my days much better!!
🥰✨ @wangxiansgirl
The Core Issue by Hauntcats (T, 21k, wangxian, WQ & WWX & WN, NHS & WWX & NMJ, canon divergence, golden core rebuilding, golden core tied to soul, angst w/ happy ending, not JC friendly) WWX meditates a golden core back
when you’re doing all the leaving (then it’s never your love lost) by tardigradeschool (T, 26k, WangXian, Hurt/Comfort, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Canon Divergence, Canon-Typical Violence, Sharing a Bed, Sharing Clothes, Fix-It, the inherent eroticism of under robes, Golden Core Transfer) LWJ gives WWX a part of his own core
🧡 a stone to break your soul, a song to save it by rikke ( M, 180k, WangXian, Arranged marriage, Canon Divergence, Hurt/comfort, Light angst, Canon typical violence) Technically not a new golden core, but a new core of a different type
The Fire Lapping Up the Creek by notevenyou (E, 66k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Hurt/Comfort, Canon-Typical Violence, Injury, Injury Recovery, Blood, Respiratory Illness, Major Illness, Fever, Grief/Mourning, Burial Mounds, Angst with a Happy Ending, Implied/Referenced Suicide, Hunger and food scarcity, Surgery, Fix-It of Sorts) WWX gets part of someone else's core transplanted into him
Ghosts Shouldn’t by ShanaStoryteller (Not Rated, 15k, WangXian, Grief/Mourning, Canon Divergence, Angst with a Happy Ending)
Righteous at a Cost by thunderwear (G, 21k, wangxian, LQR & WWX, Canon Divergence, Fix-It, no one dies, LQR finds out about WWX's core, WWX and LQR are friends??, In My Fic?, its more likely than you think, LWJ in the bg like whats happening?, Fluff, WWX goes to Gusu, Mutual Pining, Golden Core Reveal)
Can't Tell Me Nothin by natacup82 (T, 35k, wangxian, Canon Divergence, Everybody Lives, Family Feels, Communication, BAMF Women)
🔒Away from Trouble by Ilona22 (M, 15k, wangxian, Alternate Universe, Not JC Friendly, WangXian Get a Happy Ending) This is one of my personal favorites, for the growth wwx goes through and what he accomplishes separate from the sects while regrowing a new core for himself. (However, the author doesn’t spend enough time on wangxian romance for it to not just feel like something they tacked on to fill that required box, so don’t go in expecting good wangxian)
What Is Left Over by Loriqod (T, 30k, wangxian, JC & WWX, Yunmeng Shuangjie, Yunmeng brothers, Post-Canon Fix-It, WWX Has a New Golden Core, Happy Ending, WangXian in Love, SO SO SO IN LOVE, bite-sized angst, Canon-Typical Violence, JC & WWX Reconciliation, Training Montage) This one’s WWX redeveloping a core in MXY’s body. It might not be quite what you had in mind, but give it a chance, this fic is ALL about him actually cultivating with the idea of making a new core, & it’s rare to find a fic with that focus. (Even amongst fics that are suppose to be all about that(for some reason people are allergic to showing WWX actually cultivate))
I’m Sorry & Thank You by Iamnotawriter (T, 12k, wangxian, post-canon, Canon Compliant, Golden Core, Canon-Typical Violence, LQR’s epipheny, Angst with a Happy Ending)
Bitter Plants Bearing Sweet Fruit by Kryal (T, 83k, wangxian, canon-typical horror elements, Worldbuilding, Desert, Misuse of Historic Setting, Original Character Death(s), Case Fic, aftermath of canon, Established Relationship, Nothing Explicit But Shameless Innuendo)
~*~
6. Alright everyone, give me everything you have where either: (A) WWX is an actual rogue cultivator at the start of the fic, or (B) he leaves the Jiangs (via Madam Yu banishment or getting fed up with them an leaving on his own) and spends time as a rogue cultivator. (I want to see my boy in the wild doing the wild cultivator thing) if he doesn’t have a core at the beginning of the fic, I would appreciate recs where he regains it at some point. I have a Wangxian agenda btw, so WX endgame plz. @omgnectarina
Ad Oblivione by Baph, HikariNoHimeWriter (M, 70k, WangXian, Time Travel Fix-It, Temporary Character Death, Canon-Typical Violence, POV Multiple, Hurt/Comfort, Grief/Mourning, Identity Reveal, Golden Core Reveal, Cultivation World Critical, Not JC Friendly, Abusive YZY, Angst with a Happy Ending) WWX is sent back in time to when he was a child & doesn't get taken in by the Jiangs
We Meet at the Thousandth Step by Admiranda, Rynne (T, 258k, wangxian, CSSR/WCZ, WIP, Canon Divergence, No Sunshot Campaign, CSSR & WCZ Live, Rogue Cultivator WWX, Different First Meeting, Night Hunts, Genius WWX, Inventor WWX, Romance, Drama, Fluff, Strangers to married, Unresolved Sexual Tension, Unresolved Romantic Tension, Everyone Lives AU, Developing Relationship, Minor Violence, Case Fic, Mystery, Flirting, WWX's Canon-Typical Flower Flirting, Arson, There Was Only One Bed, Getting Together, First Kiss, Meeting the Parents, Resolved Sexual Tension, Resolved Romantic Tension, WWX Is a Good Big Brother, New Relationship Bliss, Chinese Mythology & Folklore, Blood and Injury, Yiling siblings)
Cultivating immortality by KizuKatana (E, 230k, wangxian, Canon Divergence, Canon-Typical Violence, Rogue Cultivator WWX, Pining, Mutual Pining, WWX low self-esteem, BAMF WWX, BAMF LWJ, Angst with a Happy Ending, not sure if this qualifies as fix-it but that was my emotional need/intent, Hurt/Comfort, unreliable narrator (wwx's self image is…), sect wars happening, Canon typical darkness, demonic cultivation descriptions in detail, self-indulgent exploration of the creation of demonic cultivation and how it changed WWX, JC and LWJ are reluctant (VERY RELUCTANT) allies, YZY & LQR are made to face up to their faults, JYL is badass (fight me) though not in terms of cultivation strenght, JC gets a chance to redeem himself, Found Family, First Time, novel canon relationship dynamics)
🔒 crying like a fire in the sun by Reverie (cl410) (T, 10k, wangxian, SL/XXC, JC & WWX, BSSR/LY, Runaway WWX, Canon Divergence, Everyone Lives AU, rogue cultivator WWX, Angst, Post Cloud Recesses, Not YZY Friendly, Happy Ending, BSSR is WWX's grandmother instead of grandmaster)
Inchoate by Marinelifeclub (T, 20k, wangxian, Child Abuse, Bad Parent JFM, Bad Parent YZY, Protective LQR, Protective LWJ, Rogue Cultivator WWX, YZY Bashing, JC Bashing, No Golden Core Transfer, Dark JFM)
A Thousand Things by tickertape (M, 108k, wangxian, Canon Divergence, WWX Isn't Adopted by the Jiāngs, Developing Friendships, lots of OCs because I can't help myself and I love them, most of the canon cast make cameos at some point, miscommunication and misunderstandings (they’re idiots your honor), Nightmares, Hurt/Comfort, Panic Attacks, Night Hunts, The Cloud Recesses Rabbits, Cloud Recesses Shenanigans, Slow Burn, like really slow burn, like if it was a bushfire it would take 8 years for it to burn through one (1) forest, the wangxian strangers to obnoxious best friends to obnoxious lovers pipeline, 'shitty cultivation world bureaucracy' is also a running theme, WWXHas a Fear of Dogs)
~*~
7. hello! I was hoping you could recommend fics where wei ying is taken hostage by people who hate lan zhan and lan zhan gets beaten up trying to save him. Maybe kind angsty and emotional? @ivybookworm
~*~
8. hi - for the next itmf, any fics that go on from that haunting almost last scene in the Untamed where LS, WN and LWJ all leave WY alone on the road. angsty ones that explore the idea of WY having no-one would be awesome. thank you so much for all you do! @oldoni
Story-Shaped by lingering_song (T, 13k, NHS & WWX, wangxian, Post-Canon, Chief Cultivator LWJ, Inventor WWX, Found Family, NHS needs a new hobby, And apparently that’s spoiling his Wei-Xiong, Mentioned Character Death, Alcohol, Protective NHS, WangXian Endgame, Not JC Friendly, Not particularly gentry sects friendly overall tbh) NHS finds WWX wandering about. Possibly not as angsty as requester is hoping for, but does address how bad an idea it is to let WWX wander alone
im reminded of a fic but cant recall the one. Wwx is travelling by himself, writing letters to LZ, he stays in a town and it ends up cursed. LZ and the juniors arrive to solve the case. Wwx is acting weird and hides his letters. The juniors read the letters and find out wwx is angry and full of resentment about how he's been treated. They find out the curse resonates from him. They talk it out to resolve matters. Any idea?
some good mistakes by Lise (T, 18k, WangXian, JC & WWX, JC & LWJ, Road Trips, (terrible road trips), Post-Canon, Rescue Missions, Hurt/Comfort, ish, Awkward Conversations, POV JC, JC & WWX Reconciliation, (ish they’re working on it)) link in #13
Rotten Work by ShanaStoryteller (Not Rated, 63k, WangXian, WWX & JL, Post-Canon, Protective WWX, Protective JL, Yunmeng Bros Reconciliation, Reluctant Matchmaker JL) similar to Story Shaped, but it's Jin Ling who finds wwx. // might fit the bill? It isn't overly angsty, but it does have characters remarking on how bad of an idea it is to let WWX go off on his own.
Judge Softly by Chrononautical (E, 32k, wangxian, LSZ & WWX, LQR & WWX, accidental voyeurism, non-consensual mind reading, oblivious WWX, bamf   WWX, genius WWX, post-canon Fix-it, angst w happy ending, LQR tries)
the soft animal of your body by howodd5ever (M, 21k, wangxian, Post-Canon, Getting Together, WWX has feelings about having a body, sort of a case fic, a little bit of epistolary goodness, graphic descriptions of wounds, Feelings About Death, WWX gets seriously injured, quoting chinese poetry at each other as a love language, Art Embedded, wound-tending as an act of love, Bathing/Washing, the mortifying ordeal of being asked to stay, Sharing a Bed, Finding home, WWX's canonical alcohol abuse makes an appearance a bit)
my age has never made me wise by idrilka (E, 63k, wangxian, Post-Canon, Part-epistolary, Mutual Pining, Getting Together, Marriage Proposal, Homecoming, One Brain Cell WWX Strikes Again)

12. ITMF like, historical perspectives. Like people in modern times talking about/teaching about/learning about LWG, WWX, and possibly others as historical figures
Historical Precedents for the Concept of Time Travel and Transmigration by meyari (G, 21k, wangxian, Fluff and Crack, dubious academic writing, Historical Research, it's practically its own character in this, vague college setting, Modern, Good YZY, Good Person SS, Reincarnation) It's the second part of a series, the first one takes place in canon era, and the second one is about modern Wei Ying researching about historical Wei Wuxian for his thesis! I recommend reading the first part first (or at least looking at the premise) for much-needed context, and also because it's so good!
DID YILING LAOZU REALLY EXIST???: a Thread [1/?] by el_em_en_oh_pee (G, 6k, wangxian, Academia AU, Social Media, Research, Cartographic Mishaps, HOW IS CARTOGRAPHIC MISHAPS AN ESTALISHED TAG. For 12, there's also the one where Wangxian are majoring in cultivation in University and there's a talk about the meaning of Hanguang-jun compositions with several one liner "titles" like fried watermelon rinds are terrible or something like that. Can't mine it on my AO3 history but it's there, I know it's there!
🔒 Night of the Living History (an edutainment special!) by Aerlalaith (T, 51k, wangxian, Modern with Magic, Workplace Relationship, Fluff and Humor, Museums, living history, the author's feelings about, the edutainment industry, museum workers, Some Plot, Slice of Life, Injury, a minor haunting, the stakes are low, unless you're on the museum board i guess, WWX does not get an employee discount)

13. Hi! For the next ITMF, could anyone recommend wangxian fics that also feature LWJ & JC not getting along/being hostile toward each other? I'm talking like anything from them having disagreements to physically fighting to just outright hating each other.
Untitled tumblr fic where LWJ punches JC in the face (sharing my reblog as writer seems to have deleted their blog & I can't find it on their Ao3)
the only way out by cafecliche (T, 12k, wangxian, JC & WWX, JC & LWJ, Post-Canon, this is one part character study, one part comedy of errors, and one part fix-it, WWX is a people pleaser in this essay I will, my event planning experience rearing its head again, Podfic Available)
Wei Wuxian’s Kidnapping Back and Forth Farce (Starring Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji) by misscam (M, 5k, wangxian, JC & WWX, Humor, Switching)
some good mistakes by Lise (T, 18k, WangXian, JC & WWX, JC & LWJ, Road Trips, (terrible road trips), Post-Canon, Rescue Missions, Hurt/Comfort, ish, Awkward Conversations, POV JC, JC & WWX Reconciliation, (ish they’re working on it)) should be noted that the Wangxian is background and the primary focus is on LWJ and Jiang Cheng having lots of emotions coming out sideways at each other

💙but I figured it out, then made my way back
By:MichelleFeather
Summary:
It was an extreme, a desperate decision fueled by anger towards the entire cultivation world, a grief deeper than the deepest trenches in the ocean. The realization that Lan Wangji would now have to continue on living a second time without his beloved, where Wei Wuxian had died once again. Where, once more, his love had been taken from him by cruel, unrighteous men who thought they knew better, that they were doing the world a justice.
Lan Qiren had seen the state that his nephew had been in after Wei Wuxian’s first death, what Lan Wangji had done in his grief then, and he feared what Lan Wangji would do to himself if he was left alone with this repeated grief.
Chapter:7/7
Words:19,318
Status:ongoing
“Regardless, Wei Ying is Wei Ying, and I will always support any decision you two make. If this is your A-Ying, we will just have to expedite our plans, get him out of the hands of the Jiangs and back where he belongs - in yours.” Lan Wangji finally let out the sob he had been holding.
~
“Did you know you would come back with us?” Wei Ying let out a small laugh. “I was there when you activated the array. You didn’t really think I would let death take me away from Lan Zhan a second time, did you?”
~~
Zidian unfurled and was darting towards Wei Wuxian - only to be caught by Lan Wangji. He pulled the whip taut, seemingly unaffected by Zidian’s energy, by Yu Ziyuan’s attempts to pull the whip back towards herself. Lan Wangji flooded Zidian with his spiritual energy, the purple whip momentarily turning blue before Madam Yu slumped to the floor, her eyes wide as she stared in shock at the Lan. Her hands shook as she looked down at the ring on her finger, eyes widening as it no longer responded to her calls. The once purple hue of her ring, now a cerulean blue. No longer under her command. Yu Ziyuan swallowed, nodding as she arranged herself to sit properly in her seat. She wasn’t stupid. She knew when she was faced with a strong opponent. Yu Ziyuan knew that she wouldn’t last a moment against Lan Wangji, for reasons she didn’t quite understand, but she wouldn’t dare further challenge someone able to so easily take control of Zidian, of changing the very color of the heirloom, the very foundation of its spiritual energy’s focus.
~~so badass of Lan Zhan 👏👏👏👏
“I have seen more men to death than you can imagine. However, I will not be the one to end you, I will leave that up to your incompetency, your inability to control your wife, and lead your sect. There will come a day, Jiang Fengmian, that the Jiang Clan will fall.” Wei Ying held onto the Clan Leader’s neck before throwing him to the ground. “And I will celebrate that day as it will have been many lifetimes worth of karma finally seeking justice.”

The Sin List
okay, so as we all know, it is vitally important that any character we stan must be morally pure and a good example to emulate in real life.
So I have decided to create a list of MDZS characters and their sins, which everyone can easily refer to in order to make sure that they are not following some horrible criminal or murderer!
This was a lot of work, but I'm very proud of it. Just doing my bit to ensure the moral purity of the fandom!
Wei Wuxian - Necromancy, disrespecting his elders, disrespecting the dead, killed Jin Zixuan, punched Jin Zixuan in the face one time, cannibalism, mind control, deviant sexual fantasies, trespassing, oath-breaking, urged Wen Qing to perform untested and possibly fatal operation on Jiang Cheng without his consent.
Lan Wangji - Defied his elders, broke the Lan Clan rules, sexually assaulted Wei Wuxian, deviant sexual fantasies, GBH (JGY)
Jin Guangyao - betrayed and killed Wen Ruohan, betrayed and killed Jin Guangshan, murder (NMJ), murdered assorted people, disrespecting the dead, assorted Spy Things for Wen Ruohan.
Nie Mingjue - Killed a lot of people during the war, verbally abused Nie Huaisang, burned Nie Huaisang's stuff, attempted murder (JGY), attempted murder (JGY), attempted murder (JGY), murder (JGY), killed the Mo family (well, his arm did anyway). In favor of the genocide of the Wen Remnants
Jin Guanshan: Sexual assault, rape, murder, ordering human experimentation with resentful energy to be done by his sect, played both sides during the war, didn't take responsibility for his children, ultimately responsible for getting WWX killed because he wanted the YTT so bad
Wen Ruohan: Attempted world domination, murder etc
Lan Qiren: has a stick up his ass
Su Minshan: Refused to die for the Lan, supported JGY in his efforts to prevent undead Da-ge from killing him. Also cursed Jin Zixun.
Sect Leader Yao: Weathervane politician
Jiang Wanyin: strangled Wei Wuxian that one time, keeps trying to talk to him but is way too tsundere about it, killed many during the war, didn't immediately forgive WWX for getting JYL killed, threatens to break Jin Ling's legs weekly.
Jin Ling: rude. rude rude rude. Also stabbed WWx one time
Lan Jingyi: not respecting his elders, rude rude rude. Also loud
JFM: shit dad, throw him in a volcano
Madame Yu: Angry mom, beat Wei Wuxian for things that weren't his fault, yelled at JC a lot, didn't appreciate JYL, very mean.
Lan Xichen: killed people during the war. Randomly starts doing flute solos in conversation
Meng Shi: was a prostitute. Told Meng Yao his dad was amazing and he should totally look him up later.
Madam Jin: awful person, she can go into the volcano with JFM. physical and verbal abuse (JGY)
Nie Huaisang: killed cats, nearly killed the juniors, let his sect fall into ruin, traded obscene materials, disrespecting his sect's traditions, lied to Lan Xichen to make him kill JGY
Wen Qing: went along with WRH's plans, performed surgery on JC without his consent
Wen Ning: Was part of the burning of LP
Mo Xuanyu: Summoned Satan to murder his relatives, harassed his brother
Jin Zixun: asshole, rude, broke the Geneva Convention on the ethical treatment of prisoners several times. Useless person
FOR THE SAKE OF SAFETY AND YOUR MORALS YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO STAN THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERS
Jiang Yanli
Qin Su
Lan Shizui
