A reminder for when it seems like there’s no movement:
Last month, I found out (very last minute) that I was possibly going to have to drive two and a half hours to testify in court because I do billing for the company I work for, and a particular entity hasn’t paid us since March. They owe $20,000.
Needless to say, I wasn’t thrilled. The lawyer called and spoke with a coworker and I to nail down details to prove that they owed everything we asserted, and found that she didn’t have all the details, so they pushed the court date back.
Which brings us to today. When I found out a couple weeks ago that court was rescheduled for tomorrow, I panicked. My coworker, who was supposed to be going with me, is having surgery today, so she wasn’t going to be able to go. Which meant I would have to drive two and a half hours into a metropolitan city I’m not familiar with, stay in a hotel by myself, and navigate to court to testify - all things I haven’t done before. I was terrified.
And then I just simply decided that I wouldn’t have to go.
I still did things to prep for it - asked the lawyer what kind of questions I’d be asked. Went over the invoicing to ensure it was all accurate. She told me she was trying to get in touch with them to get them to set up a payment plan so we could avoid the time and cost of court. I continued to affirm for that.
I found a sense of calm about it all. I knew that it wasn’t going to happen, but that even if it somehow did, it was no big deal and I’d be able to handle it, which is a far cry from my initial (and usual) panic.
All this week, even when it’s come to mind - “they still haven’t cancelled…” - I’d just affirm that it was cancelled and it was no big deal. All day today, I was still calm, even going back over everything one more time to be prepared, as if I was going.
Half an hour after I got home, my boss texted and said we weren’t going to court - they’ve set up a payment plan.
And I wasn’t even surprised.
I sat in the knowing for over a week and it wasn’t until the 12th hour that movement actually happened.
That’s the most I’ve ever felt that I was truly living in the end - calm, collected, unbothered. Going through the motions of the 3D, but in the back of my mind still carrying the knowing that it will unfold as I desire.

Non-binary customers win compensation for being asked if they are male or female [UK]
"MoneySuperMarket (MSM), the comparison website, and Transunion, a credit union, were hit with separate complaints because their application forms did not include options for non-binary customers in their gender section."
The Telegraph, 4th October 2024
Special attention on this bit:
MSM was ordered to pay £200 to unnamed non-binary customer Mx B who was asked if they were male or female. The company’s website did acknowledge the omission in an explanatory note and asked non-binary customers to refer to their sex at birth when asking for quotes, the complaint read. The note stated that it would not impact the individual insurance pricing offered. According to the complaint, MSM argued that changes to their website are bound by the information their insurance partners ask for and that many of them have not made provision for customers who identify as non-binary.
I have complained to MoneySuperMarket in the past, and after an arduous process the Financial Ombudsman Service did rule in my favour. MSM then updated their form to say that people should put the sex they were assigned at birth because of me. That still didn't feel good enough to me, and I wanted to continue fighting the case but I ran out of energy and gave up.
It is reassuring to find out that I was right, and that even with that note it is still discriminatory and the Financial Ombudsman Service are still requesting MSM pay out to affected customers.
I've never heard of a case where a nonbinary person took a complaint about a financial institution to the Financial Ombudsman Service over Mx or a compulsory binary sex marker and then lost. I've heard (and participated in) several complaints where we did that and won. So basically, you should always do that. You will win, and you will probably get £200 out of it, and your defendant will probably have to update their online forms and internal systems.

2023 Wins
I am very bad at celebrating personal successes (big and small). I tend to simply think “oh well, it’s not that big of a deal, on to the next” instead of letting myself be proud. To combat that, this year I started a tab in my master work/life AirTable to document wins. Here are some of them:
Was nominated for a Daytime Emmy.
Did not check my email on vacation! (This is a big deal for me.)
Quit my WIRED gig to make space for other work (art, fiction, etc).
Joined an art studio to have more space and tools to make things.
Dropped art history class that I wasn’t loving instead of struggling through it.
Got a new book agent who I love.
Squatted 200 lbs. Deadlifted 265 lbs.
Was a Finalist for a Third Coast Award for Welcome to Vanguard Estates.
Had a really successful writing retreat.
Sent my book agent the first 50 pages of my in progress novel.
Sold a huge project I have been pitching for five years!!! (Fuck now I have to do it.)
Learned how to blow glass.
Made some art I’m genuinely proud of.
Hit my “one year of powerlifting regularly” mark.
Got rid of a bunch of old clothes that no longer fit me because now I am swole, and only felt medium bad about it.
Wrote first draft of a short story that I'm genuinely excited about.
Got a another short story optioned for TV development. (If you're a Time Traveler Club member you can read the story!)
Learned how to forage seaweed and identify lichens.
Started volunteering at Creative Growth and learning ASL.
Got really involved in my union, and helped to write our AI Platform.

Bruh… turns out focusing on self-concept really works and NO, I will not stop talking about this lmao
I’ve decided to just go ham and start manifesting shit for fun hahah so one of the things I had down was that I’ll get attention from a random guy. Didn’t care who, could be someone I used to know and haven’t talked to in awhile, could be a new guy, whatever.
This guy I’ve been mutuals with on Twitter for probably over a year, we’ve @ replied each other before only a few times, and today I replied to a tweet of his and he DM’d me for the first time and is flirting with me now and asked for my number like WHAT.
And SP is being more affectionate and chatty with me again.
