I just achieved Perfection for the first time ever on Stardew Valley and I'm just, so stoked I can't even explain it.

As someone who previously could hardly make it into Year 2 before I got bored/burn out the fact that I played this save for FOUR MONTHS and have over 120 hours in it and am half way through Year 4...

I'm just so happy. I had to share.

I used a lot of journaling/note taking and encouraged myself to take breaks as a way to help prevent burnout. I've learned a lot on how to better tackle games so I can actually enjoy them long-term and it's been incredible.

If you're reading this and you're a fellow ADHDer who *wants* to have a long game, this is your sign. You can do it.

vsynth has long since been trending towards the uncanny valley of singing but i feel like its been especially pronounced the past few years now that a higher proportion of banks sound nigh indistinguishable from human people. you can only really tell if youre already deeply familiar with each bank's respective engine

It kills me as in I find it really funny when fics call it "a mask" when Karamatsu tries to act more confident than he feels, or even when he's upset but doesn't let it show

Its.... emotional self-control. He may not be using the skills that a psychologist would love to see for processes of emotional self-regulation (at least not obviously+it's a gag anime) but it's not unhealthy and it's not exactly masking? It's quite literally developing skills to remain functional regardless of feelings

Compare 18!Krmts to adult Karamatsu. It's obvious which of them has a higher degree of agency, self-sufficiency. They are both stressed out by the events of the movie, but where baby Karamatsu flounders, adult Karamatsu manages to act even as he has moments where he introspects. He's able to use the responsible, rational braincell when he's with Osomatsu, and when he eventually speaks up about the regrets plot he explains the situation effectively.

Shout out to both of them for having so many scenes where they simply observe the situation and think about what to do. 18Karamatsu with visible apprehension, while Karamatsu looks cooler — During the movie is likely because he already knows what'll happen but during the sick dad arch he's more detached. You can quite literally see him meditate and process his feelings on the inside.

sometimes i think i’ve changed a lot the past few years but recently i started looking into editing and finishing a fic from two years ago and started making notes of all the changes and edits i wanted to make only to find a copy of said fic from last year with nearly every noted change i wanted to make already done

...I had a guy come in today asking about how to get his kids library cards. I told him. He asked me how hard it would be for them to get them, and I said that all it took was their presence and his government ID.

He told me about how nice the system was here, where it was so easy to get a card; he said that there was a beautiful public library in Beijing that was top of the line and everything, but that the only way to access it was if you were a high ranking government official or a top professor or something. Instead, our library "serves the reader." His kids will be able to take chapter books home at no cost. He'll even be able to get books in Chinese here so that his native language skills don't atrophy.

I didn't even really know what to say, so I told him how to ask us to buy books for him that we don't already have so that he can still read them at no extra cost. I don't know how to shore up what it must feel like to know that there are books out there you can't read; I've always grown up with a good library nearby. It reminded me of working in my old library, though, where families who spoke Spanish were startled to find out we took any government ID with a formal address in town— even foreign IDs— so that their kids could get access to all of our titles in all the languages we offered.

Ah. Anyway, I hope you check out a library book with this thought in mind. I checked out the first volume of YJ98 today with that thought in mind. I didn't have to pay anything. I put it on hold, and there it was.

Edit: for those who struggle with reading comprehension; no, this patron interaction is not meant to represent the status of the Chinese public library system at large nor the country of China itself; this was my response to a random Chinese immigrant dad's anecdotal concerns as he expressed them to me, because the whole breadth of concern I'm responsible for while on desk starts and ends at recommending which library services would fulfill his needs. If you think he misunderstood or was lying about the status of public libraries in China, that isn't something I'm charged to verify before writing my thoughts and feelings about the patron interactions I was exposed through throughout my day. Expecting anything else is absurd.

Edit edit: Also, your library may not actually use Libby as the distribution method for their ebook collection. The best way to find out about how to access your library's ebook collection is to call them directly.
