Basil Orange Shrub (Nonalcoholic Drink)

shitton of basil

1 lb oranges

2 cups sugar

2 cups apple cider vinegar

the bookstore bar that i like has this amazing, lip-smacking, mouth-watering drink that i cannot get enough of, and they keep selling out. So. I begged the bartender for the recipe and turned to my alchemical roots.

Recipe:

peel the oranges and remove the white pith from the rind with the exacting precision of a surgeon - save the peel

remove pith from the orange segments as much as possible

chop up the oranges a little

chop or tear up the basil roughly

shove the oranges, peels, and basil into a large glass container and thoroughly mix with 2 cups of sugar. don't mash it too much

let sit for 2 days+ and juices will be drawn out of the oranges and basil leaves by the sugar (woo chemistry). stir infrequently just to mix it all up

add 2 cups of apple cider vinegar and mix thoroughly

you can either let it sit for even longer now in the fridge, or, when ready to serve:

dilute with water to taste, and *maybe* a pinch of salt

should literally start making you drool, smack your lips, but not grimace with apple cider vinegar harshness. dilute with more water if needed.

I'm told shrubs are great additives for cocktails and other drinks, or great to add club soda to, but honestly this drink by itself is all i want to drink forever.

your husband jason said as he stepped out of the bathroom. the scent of soap and shaving lotion lingered in the air as he walked down the hallway in just his sweatpants. his scars seemed more visible, glistening under the light as drops of water trailed down his bare back and chest.

“but how do you know what he looks like? he's always wearing a mask!” her childish voice rang out indignantly.

he picked her up effortlessly with one hand, while the other gently tugged the paper mask aside to look into her bright blue eyes — blue like his had been before the lazarus pit. her nose, mouth and ears were just like yours, a glimpse of you both in her youthful face.

"he sounds ugly, like a very old sad man. unlike you, princess".

"i'm not a princess, i'm vengeance!"

you laughed behind the stove.

"well, vengeance," he said, walking toward the apartment’s kitchen with her tiny legs wrapped around his hips "you can save gotham after eating your vegetables," he added with a smirk, putting her on the high chair.

she looked at him with wide eyes, as if he’d just handed her a death sentence.

"broccoli?"

"broccoli".

you placed the plate of food in front of her, the broccoli standing out between the rice and meat like a tiny, green nightmare. she looked up at you with pleading eyes, silently appealing to your good side.

you stroked her hair gently.

"if you don’t eat, i'll have to tell batman that his sidekick isn’t eating properly. you can't patrol without eating broccoli," he said, pulling out the chair to sit beside her. that was more than enough. with a disgusted expression, she began to eat, occasionally poking at the broccoli.

"hi, jay," you said, placing your hands on his broad shoulders and giving him a light massage. he softly kissed your left hand before looking up at you.

"how’s my other girl doing?" he asked with a smile, his lips still lingering against your hand. your daughter was so focused on hating the broccoli that she didn’t even notice the display of affection. normally, she would’ve made a gagging noise, followed by a dramatic, “bleh!”.

"she's missing you a lot" you said kissing the top of his head. a familiar scent makes you pause for a moment.

"you're using my shampoo again, aren't you?"

Y/n (male reader) was a gamer, not very well known, who did not showed his face as he liked his peaceful everyday life while still having a thriving social presence.

And as every community has a creator that they look up to, the gamer community also had one.

And it was him.

But oh y/n hated his guts. Because 1. He was hot 2. He was rude and last but not least he had a personality of a Playboy.

So when the so-called gamer god decided to comment something rude about a hater, y/n decided to clap back by tweeting "Just because you have a pretty face and nice gaming skills doesn't mean you can comment about someone's face."

Of course that post quickly blew up. And of course he decided to react to it by saying some mean things to y/n and about his face.

So to clock him, y/n posted picture of his a bare, washed face and just tagged him, and just went to sleep with his phone switched off.

Later that night he decided to react to y/n's "reply" to his comment. He also thought it would be a good idea to live stream his reaction. Bad idea.

Because as he was live streaming his reaction, going all "let's see this y/n so-called comeback." But when he finally saw y/n's post, he was..... dumbfounded. His jaw slacked.

Y/n was drop-dead gorgeous. He was so pretty with his natural pink cheeks and plump lips. So of course he had to send y/n a follow request on the game arena and follow all his social platforms. But Wrong move.

As all of this was recorded was on his live stream. Soon the whole twitter gaming community was in uproar about how whipped he was. Tbh, he genuinely didn't care as he got a excuse to stake a claim on you.

In morning, when y/n woke up and finally checked his phone, he nearly fell off his bed to see the chaos unfolding on the twitter. But when he got to know the reason behind, he knew he was screwed.

Well, this might be a start of something new.
