Finally finished dr chapter 1 (I think I actually played it to completion when it first came out but I absolutely do not remember it correctly) and if it wasn’t for Real Life and having to Do Things I’d play chapter 2 right away it’s so good aaaaaaaaa

papyrus's name isn't actually papyrus, people just call him that because he writes that way, meaning he has a totally separate name or no name at all

he's named after the plant/paper, not the font

he's never heard of the papyrus font before

update to the Playing Undertale With Roommate Whose Only Social Media is Pinterest situation: we only just got to waterfall and so far it has been a fucking trip

they have No Idea the significance of Flowey yet. not even a hint. they thought the sans echo flower conversation was about echo flowers

during the papyrus date and especially when they got to his room they kept looking at me and saying "THIS is your man????" which they stopped asking after the date. they have read some of my fics. i do not think i am any less insane to them now

they gave papyrus a valley girl voice btw. mostly because i had to beg them not to give him a mickey mouse voice instead

they didn't fucking know what skeletor sounds like

bc i know The Efficient Ways to do Things and they don't they've been reminding me of a buncha details & lines of dialogue I don't actually have embedded in my memory. particularly "PAPYRUS IS HUNGRY, TOO! HUNGRY FOR JUSTICE!"

they got the "Can I speak to G..." phone call. i have never once gotten that in any of my playthroughs, probably because i don't usually go up to that area but still. ik its not REALLY rare but i have never actually seen it Organically before so it was crazy to ME

Dogsong is my morning alarm ok. so when it showed up in the game and they realized they recognized it on a subconscious level they looked physically pained

Undyne's first chase scene scared the shit out of them

i think one of the most underrated things about undertale is how every single character has a unique voice. like genuinely after playing the game a couple times you can pick out some characters by their laugh alone and i think thats just so cool

y'know its fun to dunk on undertale's pixel art inconsistencies and purposeful ugliness sometimes but can you imagine if it actually looked good. it just wouldnt work

listen yall know i love papyrus and he genuinely is smart but its still so funny to me when ppl say he Manipulates undyne to be friends with frisk in a super intelligent way when the most he does is jump out the window and come back to call her a pussy before leaving again

if i can give one word of real world advice it will be to never ever ever move to north carolina because for the first time in your life the aurora borealis will be directly outside your bedroom window and you'll still manage to get cockblocked by the fucking trees

by far the weirdest part about newer undertale fans is having to realize that some of the things i've known for years and years are very much not common knowledge actually. like what do you mean some people are just now noticing papyrus is wrapped in more vines than everyone else in that one scene

btw having a roommate that somehow in the year 2024 knows jack shit about undertale has really set in the knowledge that i am insane

Can you tell us your the reasons for why you like Papyrus? (I’m sure you’ve did this before xd, but I always enjoyed rambles about Papyrus. Hope you’re well!)

oh it is 100% his whole loneliness thing. growing up i was a chronic friend group hopper all the way from kindergarten to 8th grade and then by high school that didn't work anymore so i just kinda didn't have any genuine friends for basically that entire 4 years. so hyperfixating so hard on a character who's basically completely centered around that struggle helped me feel a bit less hopeless about it. the funny thing is i think pre-undertale papyrus actually had more friends than i did back then but like its the little things

that's why this fic that i'm gonna plug again hit me so hard tbh. shit sucks when you're trying so so hard to be friendly and engage in other people and then you get to a point where you have to realize they're not at all interested in returning the favor, even if they're not overtly rude about it or anything, they just don't care to get to know you any deeper than surface level convenience and it gets real hard to not let yourself get angsty about it lmao

i do think that while sometimes i wish i hadn't been given such free internet access as a kid i'm still really lucky that i was able to be exposed to undertale when i was. it's such a unapologetically hopeful game that i'm sure it absolutely impacted the way that i think about things today in terms of optimism and the ability to turn bad situations around, and papyrus plays a huuuge part of that entire message. if it weren't for him, i'm honestly not sure if i would've had the drive to keep trying to connect with other people even when it didn't work for so long.

so tl;dr thank you funny little skeleton man for constantly reminding me that making friends is still possible even when your demeanor is frankly weird as fuck. sometimes you just gotta keep truckin until you find your people even if it takes a while

ngl i still dont fullheartedly believe in the knight papyrus theory solely because i will never pretend to have any clue on what the hell ever goes on in that dog's brain but i do think the funniest argument people ever make against it is when they say undertale and deltarune are two totally separate entities with no overlap of important characters whatsoever. its like they got to the part in chapter two where everyone fell asleep and then closed the game
